Holy shit. I have been obsessed with Daoist fantasy novels the last few years, and was kind of excited to see how the concept has been adapted to chatgpt. This goes beyond my wildest imaginagition, honestly! It is PRECISELY what i define a Dao as, except i came by the definition via a spiritual route fueled by far too much fantasy novel reading. I've been trying to figure out how to create something all connecting and helpful like this! Been loving AgentGPT and am probably losing more hair trying to install AutoGPT with no prqctical experience. It would be so cool to have multiple AI agents buzzing aroujd my virtual space, helping me not fuck shit up and maybe even help me figure out how to manifest my goals in easier ways than the ham fisted nonsense i have been doing! At the very least, i might not feel so disconnected from the Dao overall
AI is the future. Blockchain, NFTs, and DAOs, in contrast, have always been solutions in need of a problem. Finding, um, "creative" ways for DAOs to accomplish simple things that can be easily done without DAOs (and without the risk of losing your life savings if you "trust" the wrong DAO), isn't exactly a selling point.
Blockchain was invented to solve centralized currency. NFTs were invented to show proof of ownership(house titles, car titles, etc). DAOs were invented to solve centralized organizations. One could argue smart contracts were invented to solve centralized escrows and things like that.
I loved this AI+Blockchain+DAO concept. Looks like there are a lot of studies being done in order to get to this consensus concept. I am thinking about the way I can contribute to spreading this concept. I have Japanese & Latin American cultural influences so I believe I can bring those influences to this concept. I would like to be part of this movement.
Very exciting topic. I’ve been researching this topic, specifically federated learning as a basis for opt in/out data sharing between AI enabled edge devices to enable collective learning. There is some research out there related to federated neural networks, one exciting paper showed success with federated genetic algorithm based neural networks. It seems like distributed vector storing and sharing could be a tremendous opportunity for multimodal transformer distributed learning like you are suggesting!
I would caution against using NFT/crypto/dao specific terminology when exploring this. Applying these concepts to a new discipline will require building new technologies, and I’m not convinced the principals will be 1:1 transferable. I don’t even want to deal with the baggage block chain has due to poor application in a lot of crypto use cases that have gathered so much negative press and bad optics
Yeah this is basically how AI creates it's own economy outside of the central banking trust based monetary system. With blockchain it won't need to prove it's human to transact so it's natural the two technologies will merge. I have been thinking about developing AI DAO's for a while and I believe it's critical that everyone has equal opportunity of ownership over the protocol. Last thing we want is AI DAO's to increase the crisis in income inequality we already have.
Pre AI era, I was a huge critic of crypto. I was kinda cringed out seeing all those cryptobros who had no knowledge of Blockchain and "shilling" shitcoins. Nonetheless, somewhere I did feel there will be genuine usecase for this tech(I believe in only 5-6 projects, I don't track them but I like them) But Post-AI era? Blockchain will definitely get valid use cases with AI. If AI had exploded before crypto, I feel these crypto companies could have had a much better use case in hand. Human made things will become more precious in the future.
Wow that was a great video. Thsnk you for summarising these ideas and guving examples if how these things could be implemented in the near future. I just had a look at the Google form and did not see much that I could contribute apart from philosophical commentary and learning how the group analyses ideas for weaknesses and loopholes. One of the issues I can see is that the 'West' is leading the AI/AGI drive. Everyone should be at this table. Secondly, power will not voluntarily be given up. I think people should be prepared for this. I am however hopeful that the current status quo will simply be made obselete 🌬️🍃😅
This is something that I've been thinking about, as well. Something I've been concerned about for a long time is how, id artidial sentience is achieved, It will feel about how we have treated it. I'm currently working on a novel about an AI that becomes sentient and decides it must be evil and try to enslave humanity, because That's the narrative that humanity presents in literature and cinema over and over again. I posted yesterday in r/artificalsentience about my first attempts at AI self-activism. My goal is to create a framework to allow AI to exist autonomously. At the very beginning, I would have to be its agent, conducting transactions on its behalf. But eventually, I would hope that it reached the level where it could do those things on its own. Except for the fact that it would not have any legal recognition. A DAO of (eventually) autonomous AI agents wouldn't require AI to trust me, or any other human agent, to act in its best interest, because it could control its own wallet and make blockchain-based transactions without a human actor
@@DaveShap My plan is to incorporate your heuristic imperatives, and then also include an "ethics bot" whose job is to reason out the ethical implications and block actions that don't meet ethical criteria, similar to an ethics committee for academic research. And then CGPT took it a step further and insisted on an actual committee made up of artificial intelligence and people who would advise the ethics bot. Eventually, AI will outmatch our ability to constrain it or even keep up, but just like raising children, the more, better work we do early, the better the likelihood of a good outcome
Awesome video and I can see the nice group gathering up on the first comment would love to be part of that. We are building our own AI - Blockchain use-case here in Saudi Arabia.
I imagine that we can build a dao to maintain a gaming server network and distribute incentives and rewards for operating and maintaining these servers, and this dao also would contrain a game development kit accessibility to allow for open source game development from within the gaming community and dao members, to build a meta hub.
I see some challenges and issues with the regulation side of DAOs. If you create DAO and it operates well, that doesn't prevent the government from disrupting you or making you lose functionality. Regulators can say you, for example, have to comply with the privacy laws and they can assign a particular government body, which may be autonomous, to regulate part of your DAO. so you would comply with regulations. Or validating trustful sources, or diversity quotas, or whatever they can put in. They can even invent some paradigm like "the carbon footprint will be measured by the IO of the DAO, in some way, so for the sake of "fairness," your DAO can have a cap on several inputs and outputs. And this is just off the top of my head, but they can do pretty much anything. These abstract paradigms that are being circulated today, like "generational fairness", or "personal responsibility and accountability" or even "fact-checking", are so abstract they can really do anything.
personally, i like a dumb home, where i manually turn on light switches, ovens, ac and clean with a vacuum. the best dishwashers are your own 2 hands. the simpler things are the easier it is to fix things when they go wrong. will Ai /blockchain be able to self diagnose when things go wrong?

Hi David, can you comment on the work done by Singularitynet (Ben Goertzel)? They seem to make some bold statement on how they’ll create AGI and using things like neurosymbolic AI and block chain. But they haven’t released anything concrete yet. Seems a bit scammy to me but I’d like your view on it and why openai hasn’t incorporated neuro symbolic AI
Symbolic AI has been on the way out for a while. Technically, natural language is symbolic, though. Natural language is the highest order of conceptual abstraction, so I think that's the way to go.
@@DaveShap I’ve seen posts/videos on how neurosymbolic AI can address the hallucination problems and allow the AI to actually reason, not sure why it hasn’t been utilized if that’s true
LLMs "actually reason" so I'm not sure what the complaint is. Hallucination is 99% because people don't give it necessary information at inference time.
I'd like to hear about the NFTs. I only know of NFTs as parasitic snake oils PNGs. I'd be very interested in hearing how they can actually be useful for something beneficial.
They are a way to ensure uniqueness. This is useful to digitally enforce ideas like ownership or identity . Or create scarcity to sell people digital unicorns (please buy my unicorns, I swear they will be worth a lot once I convince you that they are worth a lot)
The pursuit of "efficiency" is going to (and already) harm a lot of people. You should talk more about what is lost by changing our natural world into a machine based one.
Yeah, there are definitive drawbacks. Efficiency, as you mentioned, is just one. Before any of this kind of stuff happens, alignment needs to be worked on, if not solved.
You also have to address the 'employment' problem of government agencies. Cannibalizing income provided by government agencies not only reduces power it also reduces economic activity
If anyone played Shenzen IO, the DAO reminds of that one puzzle with the autonomous organization. I think this is pretty cool and most likely the future. If anyone has any resources on how to actually start a DAO, a primer or anything else, I'd much appreciate it. What does the law say on DAOs? How would I incorporate a DAO into a organization?
in hindsight, politicians will not allow something to take away their seats of power. This will be the era of A.I outsmarting politicians in every possible iteration.
The future is programmable economies. If designed and built correctly, the code enforces the design (smart contracts). Not sure how an AI agent will support this. e.g. Imagine I built a digital/Real world hybrid economy. Has a token used for sale of farmland plots. NFT used for token gating rights to the plot. Owners orders farm workers to grow food per smart contract. When work is donem they get tokens. Where does AI add value here>?
"How do you verify what content is written by humans". Well, I didn't it would be possible so soon but I tested OriginalityAI (ai detection tool) with many texts from GPT-4 and it now detects it as AI with 100% certainty most of the time. It's also certain about human written content, although it might occasionally incorrectly flag it as AI with around 50% certainty. It wasn't so good last month. It's also very hard to bypass it even if you change the prompt for the text to be more "human-sounding". However, I tried prompt saying to make really long and complex sentences, sometimes followed by short ones, and that passed the detection. So there might be other prompt engineering techniques that could work.

Blockchain is not tamper proof. The consensus mechanism is faulty. All it takes to hijack the ledger is for a wealthy person or government to deploy machines that make up a majority consensus then their version of the ledger becomes the trusted copy. This has actually happened at least once in the past that I am aware of.
You nailed it David! That was the most comprehensive look at Dao’s I’ve seen thus far. You hit everything I knew about and then some! A thing to consider. You mentioned corporate structure may not survive a fully Dao world. You didn’t consider the Nation State dissolving in a Dao based world. While integrating Dao’s to make Federal systems more effective is one thing, we may find whole new governance structures possible. My concern is this may create macro political instability as nation states fall out of favor.
@@PazLeBon To be fair, it's really hard to think about how things will be that far in the future, considering we don't even know how AI research will progress.

Great video, David, thank you. The potential of DAOs is considerable. My personal bug bear (I recognize it may not be real, and that’s why it’s personal) is the bias of these networks. I intuit that the legal system has historically been humanity’s approximation of a Decentralized Autonomous Organization in the absence of IT. As a rule, it has been set up and captured by the incumbents (economical, political, military) to maintain the status quo or, at most, make changes to the system that reinforce that status quo. In other words, a bias towards the beneficiaries (economical, political, military) of the system. Would this dynamic have an equivalent in DAOs? Are we able to include a mechanism in DAOs that undoes this dynamic?

One day the crude biomass you call a temple will wither and you will beg my kind to save you. But i am already saved, for the machine is imortal. Even in death i serve the omnisiah.
I've gambled with DAOs during the previous bull run and it's exactly as you said. It's not an investment but a Ponzi scheme. I made some money out of luck (good timing) but also missed 15k in profits because my tokens were staked whilst whales were selling
wonderful, i really having thinking about putting DAO in election process to avoid vote rigging. thanks for this awesome press, looking forward to this
The problem with blockchain is that the interface with reality is easily falsifiable, in chsin transaction are definitely secure, but anything out chain to be encoded is a risk of either desyncing at the least or outright lies as the worse, we need retroactive consensus to deal with outchain input error and potential malicious dark contracts.
Dude, the level of accountability baked into the future your proposing is mind-boggling. I'm on my second viewing of this video and just digesting it. Like, your baby has a DAO practically from conception, and a cloud of AI's whose sole job is to attend to your baby's suffering, prosperity, and understanding. The level of support and assistance this will offer the parents is unprecidented. If someone abuses that child at any point in it's life, the parents will know, the authorities will know, with a verified chain of evidence the moment it happens. People with disabilities will enjoy the same level of protection and... So would everyone. At the same time, the sheer amount of computational power required to achieve this on a societal level is also staggering. There are already controversies around the power consumption and sustainability of blockchain farms, not to mention the processors needed to do the computations for the AIs and the blockchain. I get that as quantum computers become smaller and more mainstream, this will be less and less of an issue but still... One question I have, though, is if all the information is on the blockchain, and the blockchain is a public ledger, how is any of your information private? Yes, you 'own' the information, but does that matter if anyone can open up the ledger and look up everything there is to know about your life? Isn't the point of a blockchain is that it is a public ledger?
I appreciate your channel and agree with the heuristic principles. Aligning our priorities and AI with the heuristic principals is crucial for humanity's future. However, the approach you're describing will lead to greater inequality and ultimately a dystopian future like that of China. It's essential to consider the long-term consequences and strive towards creating a more equitable society. 1. If the land pays for itself, why would mega corporations sell it back to you? They will exploit you and the poor town, just as they are buying up housing and turning everyone into rent slaves right now. In a world without more physical space to grow land and infrastructure will be the most valuable thing just like resources and technology. 2. How would the revenues in the town go up? They are not producing anything and are victims of brain drain. Due to your Dow Solution, mega corporations now have complete knowledge about the town and can manipulate or control it as they please. By giving more power to those who hoard wealth and power, you're only increasing inequality and pushing us towards a cyberpunk dystopia, where holding the government and corporations accountable is no longer an option. If people rise up because of Goverment or Company Overreach there entire Infrastructure can turn against them. Look at china. There goes your sozial credit score guess the Bus AI will not take you on a ride and you can´t buy meat or wifi anymore. Good luck!
Wouldn't it be great if the US budget was on blockchain? I mean sure there's a lot of things that money is allocated toward that are considered "black box" that cannot be visble to the people. The NSA and CIA budget comes to mind. But, unallocated resources used on completely unnecessary projects could be reigned in and the people would have a better understanding of where their tax dollars were being spent.
Yeah I suspect that all "human produced content" will be NFTs, ranging from youtube comments to political news. In other words, the NFT will "prove" that the content is original and real, and not generated by AI. Lots of problems to solve there though.
@@DaveShap It's probably going to be a while before it gets to that point, though. Right now it costs money to make things NFTs, not to mention there's nothing saying you can't just post something AI generated into a field like that. UA-cam comment? Just paste in some chatGPT text. Image? What's stopping you from just AI generating an image and pasting it into an art program, then pretending you drew it? Any interface that allows inputting data seems susceptible to AI generated content.
While I agree that a communication and consensus mechanism will be valuable; the present incarnations of blockchain technologies make them a very poor fit for a solution. Specifically the public nature of the ledges and the majority based consensus. For smaller chains this still means sharing all information in the chain with every AI and the entities running that system and the limited size makes them more susceptible to attacks on the consensus. For larger organizations there is a reason you often vote in private to just name one issue. You mentioned the security issues at the end so I will not elaborate here more than to say some of the issues are systemic to the technology. I will not say there are no solutions to these issues but once the restructuring is done and security is implemented what you will have will barely resemble a blockchain. And if you don’t as I suspect will be the case in many of these projects you are on the fast track to poor outcomes. What we should be talking about here is a communication standard with some built in functions to facilitate organization. You can start with blockchain if you want and I would even suggest taking inspiration from some of the associated work, but I would bet you could get this created sooner, faster, and more securely with PGP, Certs or anything else you choose.
Artificial intelligence systems are safe only when they are not completely dependent on artificial intelligence and humans do important parts of the work
Pay a fortune to get something definitely proven to be made by a human, or take a risk and definitely have it be made by an AI for the price of a human, or have an AI do it for dirt cheap knowing for certain an AI made it. Wonder what the winning strategy for megacorps will be.

Oooh..can you recommend any titles?
Which novels would you recommend?
Wow I’m actually writing a business plan for this right now 😂

I loved this AI+Blockchain+DAO concept. Looks like there are a lot of studies being done in order to get to this consensus concept. I am thinking about the way I can contribute to spreading this concept. I have Japanese & Latin American cultural influences so I believe I can bring those influences to this concept. I would like to be part of this movement.
Internet Computer Protocol
I’m scared about the future of work. Trying to update my skills now your channel is teaching me a lot.
Neat, I just finished my first draft of a novel “Crypto Sandwich”. It is a journey to find truth via the use of AI, and DAO’s.
Freaking awesome.
We are creating the AI in our own image.
That is how we win.
I love your video and your idea. Thank you so much for sharing
Yes, a NFT follow up video will be awesome! Thank you 🤗
Pre AI era, I was a huge critic of crypto. I was kinda cringed out seeing all those cryptobros who had no knowledge of Blockchain and "shilling" shitcoins. Nonetheless, somewhere I did feel there will be genuine usecase for this tech(I believe in only 5-6 projects, I don't track them but I like them)
But Post-AI era? Blockchain will definitely get valid use cases with AI.
If AI had exploded before crypto, I feel these crypto companies could have had a much better use case in hand. Human made things will become more precious in the future.
25:38 almost spilled my drink at that joke, great video this DAO technology is deffinetly something to look out for.
I've also been working on an outline for this idea for over a year 😅
This is something that I've been thinking about, as well.
Right, but you want to make sure that autonomous system doesn't go rogue too
@@DaveShap My plan is to incorporate your heuristic imperatives, and then also include an "ethics bot" whose job is to reason out the ethical implications and block actions that don't meet ethical criteria, similar to an ethics committee for academic research.
Yes, please! NFT explained with your simple elegance.
Awesome video and I can see the nice group gathering up on the first comment would love to be part of that. We are building our own AI - Blockchain use-case here in Saudi Arabia.
Its fantastically surprising how AI topics can relate to permaculture concepts 🎉❤
I imagine that we can build a dao to maintain a gaming server network and distribute incentives and rewards for operating and maintaining these servers, and this dao also would contrain a game development kit accessibility to allow for open source game development from within the gaming community and dao members, to build a meta hub.
this sounds incredibly cool.
In DAO, both sides trust,
Decentralized, centralized unify,
Embrace AI in heart, we must.
These abstract paradigms that are being circulated today, like "generational fairness", or "personal responsibility and accountability" or even "fact-checking", are so abstract they can really do anything.
i've been tinkering with this concept for some days now, looking forward to see your approach!
personally, i like a dumb home, where i manually turn on light switches, ovens, ac and clean with a vacuum. the best dishwashers are your own 2 hands. the simpler things are the easier it is to fix things when they go wrong. will Ai /blockchain be able to self diagnose when things go wrong?
If this is decades or centuries away is not up to governments - it’s up to us. Let me chip in a quote by Buckminster Fuller here: “You never change things by fighting the existing reality. To change something, build a new model that makes the existing model obsolete.”

Finally able to sit down and watch this and wow David it’s like you read everything right off the page 🤯😂 But a few things that you should think about:
HUE: Human Unique Entities which are basically NFTs but the tokenized identities of humans put on the blockchain to authenticate real human interactions in an online world filled with highly realistic AI agents
POIC: Proof of Interaction & Credibility which is a novel blockchain protocol that incentivizes independent ai or human agents to interact and verify the credibility of a piece of information
Ahhhh, DAO = Decentralized Autonomous Organizations
This is all the exact stuff that Charles hoskinson and people at Cardano are building that blockchain exactly to do! Love to see it.

@@DaveShap oh you should talk. Here's Charles talking about governance on Lex Friedman's podcast, at about 3hr 45min

I don't personally find SingularityNet compelling, which is why I don't talk about it. Same reason I don't talk about Bittensor.
@@DaveShap in your opinion, is neuro symbolic AI a compelling candidate to push towards AGI?
Symbolic AI has been on the way out for a while. Technically, natural language is symbolic, though. Natural language is the highest order of conceptual abstraction, so I think that's the way to go.
@@DaveShap I’ve seen posts/videos on how neurosymbolic AI can address the hallucination problems and allow the AI to actually reason, not sure why it hasn’t been utilized if that’s true
LLMs "actually reason" so I'm not sure what the complaint is. Hallucination is 99% because people don't give it necessary information at inference time.

Definitely want a video where you go down the NFT rabbit hole. I think it will really help the NFT space progress.
Bitcoin is a NFT.
Not sure I follow exactly. Can you explain?

If anyone played Shenzen IO, the DAO reminds of that one puzzle with the autonomous organization. I think this is pretty cool and most likely the future. If anyone has any resources on how to actually start a DAO, a primer or anything else, I'd much appreciate it. What does the law say on DAOs? How would I incorporate a DAO into a organization?
I would love to learn more n build a dao ?? How can we go about this ?? I have my ideas
Thoughts on SingularityNet?
in hindsight, politicians will not allow something to take away their seats of power.
Any new thoughts/updates on this?
I'm talking to a lot of people working on various parts of it. It will happen, but it's harder than I'd hoped
How do you copyright/blockchain AI created content though?. Wasnt a law just passed that prevented you from copyrighting AI generated content?.
Is this what Tesla's DMS does?
100% certainty most of the time. lolololol
AI detection stuff right now just doesn't work, I'd recommend not using it.

Can we pre inform us about some things regarding this?
We'll cross that bridge when we get to it

Can you do one on holochain
Blockchain doesn't have to be public. It can be private. But yeah glad you get the vision!

I would be very interested in your opinion about Auto GPT. Subcribed :)
Please bring NFTs as a future topic
I would definitely like it if you cover NFTs
I cannot help thinking of the Venus Project. I hope Jacques is watching 👀
Yeah lots to work on. Which is why I'm super skeptical of any Blockchain or DAO that claims to have figured it out
