Why do some mushrooms seem to need sterile environments and others just grow out in the open in a grubby compost heap?
When mushrooms grow outdoors, they're subject to whatever conditions nature provides. But if we want more control over the types of mushrooms we grow, how many we get, and when they grow, we need to maintain a clean and sterile environment. This helps prevent harmful contamination and ensures consistency in our harvest.
I think it’s a numbers game they will release thousand of spores and only a few will become mushroom that’s just what I think tho.
Yeah man basicly if you try growing mushrooms outside it may work it may not. Not to mention you might have several wild and possibly poisonous mushroom species that might try growing among your edible mushrooms.
Are the ones in compost heap magic?
When you create grain spawn you create the perfect place for mushrooms to grow but also other fungi like mold and also some strains of bacteria. I only just started but that's why to my understanding
Man that way works, those mushrooms are beautiful
You are awesome! It was awesome getting to meet you at mycofest!!! Hope to see you at other events this year
Thank you! Looking forward to more events!
this is awesome! back when I used to grow shrooms, I used PF technique to sterilize and inoculate canning jars. this seems simpler. also had to make my own glove box. back in my day... 😝👍
how do those mushrooms actually survive in the wilds??
A little luck and proper conditions which we can only try to replicate.
@@K9TheKamikazeThis is nicely put
Yeah I don't have the slightest clue.. Prarie boy here one time me and my grandfather went mushroom picking in his pasture an we find all sorts... under cow shit, horse shit, wood mostly chaga on wood though but the others he said were the magic kind.. he let me try .5g before never gonna forget that
The mushroom is the just the fruit aka sexual component of the organism. It's there to disperse spores. Most of the organism is that white stuff in the substrate, mycelium. So, mushrooms don't survive for long and really aren't meant to, but the mycelium can last for much longer. There's a lot more to say, but I hope this helps.
There are trillions of spores out there waiting for the right conditions
Does the bag smell strong when you open it, or even when it’s closed?
Wowza
Looking super tasty!!!😛
okay but how are you making your all-in-one bag? kind of the most important part of this
Where do you let sit? Matter the temperature?
Awesome! I'm going to learn more!
Please do! And let us know if you have any questions. :)
Good job 😊
After injecting my bag, can i keep it in my sealed tote or does it need more air then that? Please anyone
Where does the bag need to be while the mycelium is growing?
Store in a cool place out of direct sunlight
I keep mine in the closet and they do fine. They really are "set and forget" once you do the innoculation. When it was time for fruting I moved them out of the closet and into a room with sunlight (but not direct sunlight)
@@TheMoastWorstcan the be in a sealed tote in the closet?
So cool
❤
Does liquid culture need to be refrigerated? A lot of shop that sell them locally to me keep them on the show room floor in display case
It helps keep it fresh for longer, but storing in a cool, dark spot for a couple weeks is fine too. Some species cannot be refrigerated at all.
I had no idea you could store your sports syringes in the refrigerator. Also, instead of using one syringe per bag, I could use 2.5 to 5 cc's and split it up between a couple bags?
It’s all about sterilization clean clean clean 70% iso spray everything down start from there and it will always be good
yes
They only used 2.5cc per bag , they did not use an entire syringe per bag, so u can, more cc will make it colinate more quickly but it’s more $ per bag
I make hundreds of quarts of liquid culture and I frequently still don't use more than a ml or two if the moisture content is perfect.
More can colonize faster.
Wow! ❤ after harvesting? What do you do with the rest of the media?
Once it's truly done producing, this can just go into a compost pile. Or, you could bury it outside and it might produce more!
soak it 8-10 hours and try for a second flush
@@TheMoastWorst
She explained when it's truly done producing, this means after many flushes. But yes, definitely soak when production slows.
I love your monotubbies shirt ❤
You can have one too! northspore.com/collections/gear/products/north-spore-monotubbies-t-shirt-xs-3xl
My dad works at north spore and he got us some. My favorite shirt!
Looks like Golden Teachers
not really... that's probably just one of few mushrooms you're familiar with. you be surprised as to how many strains look like golden teachers
Tried a number of times. 3 lbs bag max yield 4 grams. Mushrooms are small as could be and barely any of them. Going to do a monotub grow next.
They're definitely capable of a lot more than that. You're right though, a monotub can yield waaaaay more.
I start in the bag and once the "cake" is fully colonized I move it to a cheap, homemade (sterilite) monotub for fruiting. My smallest yield inclduing multiple flushes per cake has been 3oz dry.
@@TheMoastWorst
I have done the same process also. Perlite in the bottom for humidity and the cake sitting in the tote. B+ is a good producer, I seldom get less that 7G dried per flush. My very first try was a huge flush from a 4lb bag. Some strains are great.
No second flush? No misting?
Misting depends on if your mushrooms need it. We've seen folks get 2-3 flushes off of one ShroomTek bag 👍
You cut a hole in the top of the bag and didn’t patch it? Is that going to be ok for most people
Once the block is fully colonized, it's much less likely to contaminate, so it's ok (and beneficial) to open the bag at that point 👍
@@NorthSpore I can’t wait to start my grow THANK YOU
I'm not liking the yield with bags. 10ml would do ten spawn qt jars and give you two big tubs to grow.
B+???
🔥🔥🔥🔥🔥🔥
Where do i find these cultures syringes?🤔
Thank you for the question! We sell liquid culture syringes on our website, northspore.com!
I have them, they sell them, local grow stores have them as well. A regular Google search will turn up thousands of places to buy them.
North spore are extremely reputable. Go with them.
If you're looking for cubes a local grow store may have them. They almost always have spores at least.
I like it grow. But not have sand
You is better!!!
This never works for me. The mushrooms never grow and the instructions provided DO NOT match what is shown here. why do you always skip the growing process?
it's Mona Lisa
When you cut the slit, you dont put micro tape over it?
At the stage at which her bag was at when she did so, its likely that she would be okay simply leaving it open. + im sure she keeps them in a very sterile environment.
How many times can you harvest from that bag?
About 3-4 times typically.
You can take it completely out of the bag once its fully colonized. I move mine from the bag to a monotub when its ready for fruiting and I get maximum yields. I soak the substrate after the first flush/harvest and put it back in the monotub for flush #2. Rookie Mycologist does this in one of his videos and that is where I got the idea.
Are those magic mushrooms? Lol
Nope, those are culinary Pioppino mushrooms.
Stupid question, what does the syringe do? What is it your boosting into the bag and why?
