Comparing the photos was awesome!! I have never been there, but have watched many videos of the place. Was watching a guy named John videoing there and as he stepped around the side of a building, he almost ran into a bear!! He turned and walked away!! The bear was as shocked as he was and just went on his way😮!!

Thanks for showing this. We love the Elkmount area and thanks to your videos we have found the troll bridge and the hotel on the hill that burnt. One of our favorite places to hike is the road there at the troll bridge and Spence cabin. We walk as far as comfortable and turn around. It’s beautiful walking and listening to the river. ❤

My mother, brother and I stayed at the motel sometime I think in the early 1980s before it closed. They had square dancing in the hall one night while we were there. Thanks for showing the area now.

Have you been to the Chapman Cabin lately? We were out there last month on our way to the Avent cabin and it is getting close to being done. That first cabin y'all walked into is actually built around a tree, one of the windows you walked past is actually right next to the tree. Elkmont is one of my favorite places to just hang out and chill, and hike Jakes Creek Trail.

I saw the burned out remnants of Wonderland Hotel sometime around 2005 or 2007. The NPS had it fenced off. They were still trying to figure out what to do with the area. NPS wanted to tear everything down but the historical preservationists won out.
I thought it would be great if they opened that area as another lodge, one that is more accessible than Leconte.
