Great travel rod, especially to use the Zodias and the monocoque handle. I’ve been fly fishing for many years and there’s been an incredible improvement with ferrules, and I recall having to use wax on them years ago, now the materials are advanced along with designs and Shimano picked a great travel rod. Of course having G Loomis Fly Rods, I am not surprised to see this new Zodias Travel.
Great video ! Thank you .I'm traveling all over ..and thinking to bay same thing [ shimano zodias] .Can i use that for salt water to? please let me know. thank you
Hey JP thanks bud that looks like a nice set up for traveling so informative all the time. I'm One of your American subscribers and absolutely love the channel. Thanks so much for answering my questions that is greatly appreciated. I'll always support your channel and I always hit the like button. GOD bless you and your family your pal fisherman Mike from Missouri.
I’ve been running TFO 3 piece travel rods for years with no issues. I mostly do in shore salt water fishing for reds, trout, black drum. My fishing partner also runs them and he fishes with them in Canada once a year for pike and walleye, also with no issues. I will give this one a try as I’m running mostly Shimano reels. Thanks for the review 👍👍👍
Ever give this one a try? I’ve been using the TFO and like it, but wish it packed down a little smaller. These Zodias spinning rods seem like they can only handle light tackle. 10 lb test isn’t cutting it when you’ve got to stop a snook.
It’s about time. In Asian market, high quality pack rods are the norms. This includes companies like Daiwa and Shimano. They have some extremely impressive saltwater pack rods for many years now in both spinning and casting up to at least 11footers that I know of for surf and jigging with no flat spots. The technology has been there. I think it is just N American anglers have the misconceptions that one piece rods are superior and associates them with the pros. But the real reason for 1 piece rods and pros is that they need their rigs all set up and ready in their boat. Hope to see more travel rods available as I am travelling more and somehow saltwater boats don’t have much locked rod storages.
Such a dumb misconception, seeing as nearly all fly rods are now four piece, including the pinnacle of performance (and price) rods. Surely conventional rod technology is advanced enough to negate any sort of drawback to multi piece rods. We need an expride travel rod next! 😅
My 5 piece diawa ardito 11 foot surfcasting rod has been awesome from shore, pier, Even ripping out large twitchbaits and poppers a mile out from the front of the boat while trolling booking charters in mexico.....I also have a 7ft 4 inch 3 piece diawa saltiga boat rod that can handle almost everything and can still be cast with Spigot ferrules and NO FLAT SPOTS
I can attest that the 5piece 6’10” Medium is an excellent all around casting rod able to cast even 1/8oz to 10yds and still easily cast 1oz lures (it’s rated 1/4-3/4oz)
Good review, quite timely for me as well as I've been eyeing up a few options in the 7>20+g range and the casting version seems to fit the bill. Based in the UK and I have a Major Craft CRX694AJI (spinning rod) for my UL fishing when I travel but was looking for something with more grunt to target wrasse off rocky marks. So why not get a standard 2 PC? Well quite often I have to do some interesting approaches to these spots so having a 4/5pc rod that packs into a rucksac is a major plus as it keeps both hands free. Also means I can pack it in the suit case for rest days when I travel abroad on climbing trips.
I like Shimanos. I have been looking all year for a rod that I can put in my saddle bag of my motorcycle AND go on party boat using 8~10 oz sinkers.Wpuld you happen to know a rod anywhere for that purpose?
Shimano using their "fly rod tech (G-Loomis)" in their other rods, as a "conventional" angler who switched to fly, both salt and fresh water, multi section rods are nothing new and are really convenient, never had any issues with ferrules. Definitely looking for a spinning travel rod to add to my fly setups stashed in my vehicle, this will foot the bill nicely, and preferable to telescopic options I think. FYI, fly guys sometimes use ferrule wax to keep the sections coming apart smoothly.
Above 90% of fly rods including ones costing 900 to 1100 dollars are 4 piece. I don’t see why premium bass rods can’t be at least two or three pieces. The sensitivity argument is mostly advertising hype. Modern ferrules don’t have enough effect to outweigh convenience. That’s my 2 cents.
They make a significant weight increase and affect balance as well when compared to a one piece rod. I don’t disagree regarding performance and taper but weight is a tough one for bass anglers when comparing apples to apples
I've been thinking the same thing my 9' fly rod os 4 pieces and rod performance is everthing on a fly rod, why is it so hard to get a 3 or 4 piece bass rod
It'd be nice if they had a matching/attached travel bag for the reel. That's a nice rod for packing up and hiking to a fishing location without having to worry about trees.
In your opinion, how does this compare - better or worse to the St. Croix Triumph travel MediumFast? And or TFO Traveler? I'm on the hunt for an all around freshwater performer to join me on my travels. Thanks in advance!
Unfortunately I cannot compare them as I have zero experience with both brands. The Zodias feels and fishes very high end, best feeling travel rod I have played with but my experiences are honestly fairly limited. I will say, based on my experiences with so many different rods, these don’t feel like a travel rod at all, which is a great thing!
I have both. The megabass is more parabolic. But tip heavy for me. The zodias is faster but balance is very good. Sensitivity is about similar for both I find
You should check out diawa’s triple b rods, they are next level. I’ve used a lot of travel rods and haven’t found one with the quality in those rods that diawa has done. Just my opinion but check them out f you get a chance.
Ay bro you rod coming apart easy bc your not binding them right, put the pieces in with the dots slightly uneven than twist the top piece and you will feel it lock in better
It’s actually very had to damage when they are properly wrapped together. The case is probably to keep price down but an option would be nice for sure!
I really wish more of the high end rods would still make some 2 piece options. One piece rods are great, but I'm not always on a boat and transporting even a 2 piece rod is a lot more convenient sometimes especially hiking or biking.
It really depends on the market demand. I know for up here in Canada, the Quebec anglers love two pieces and that is why we have some in Zodias and other line ups.
I not a two piece rod or a 4-5 piece rod I am a one piece rod man a daiwa presso ultra light pack rod only $89-$99 comes in a better case than that one what’s up with that man
I don't trust these segmented rods.. I bought the Ugly Stick GX2 and it's a 4 piece.. No matter how hard I put the pole together, it will randomly fly to pieces when I cast it.. Brand new I knew this would happen 100% My first fishing pole. Everyone said it was a great one.. Even in Walmart, I said this thing will fly into pieces when I cast it and sure enough, it does.
Really the best storage solution shimano could come up with was a bag? Even Toadfish has a aluminum tube for their travel rods, that sure is a let down for me

Great video!!! Just got my Zodias 5 piece spinning rod after waiting for 8 months. So happy with build and quality.

Did you end up getting the Zodias 5 piece? If so, how did you like it for inshore fishing?

Love anything made by shimano ! Great info!
JDM rods and reels are next level!

No problem 👍
The best I had was an Albright Explorer. Too bad they stopped production. I have Tfo and a few others but still looking for the Explorer....

What is the matching spinning travel rod 6ft or 7ft MH for my Shimano Stradic 3000 FM
I like Shimanos. I have been looking all year for a rod that I can put in my saddle bag of my motorcycle AND go on party boat using 8~10 oz sinkers.Wpuld you happen to know a rod anywhere for that purpose?
That’s a lot of weight for any pack Rod I have seen available here in North America.

I have used the ferrule wax for my center pin/float rods. Definitely helps! 👍
Have a shimano Etage telescopic and wonder if a 5 piece take apart version is better?
How many guides on the Zodias 5 piece S68 ML

There is a soft cloth travel bag that comes with it
Is that braided line you are using?
That was 8Lb Power Pro Super8Slick on the Stradic Ci4+
Would you prefer a Vanford 1000 or 2000 with the spinning version?
2000 or 2500 with the Medium Spinning Rod
This one is always in my trunk since this winter
I know it’s Shimano but actually Daiwa makes the travel Presso and has great reviews. Curious to see how this rod does.
Do have shimano's shop in Vietnam ? And how much it's cost by usd ?
Thoughts on the mega bass levante spin rod ?
Have never thrown one to be honest. Sorry!
Subscribed and what’s the best site to order this from North America.
Much appreciated! I would say Tackle Warehouse or Tackle Direct if you’re in the US and they actually have inventory

I picked up a Megabass Orochi XXX Jade Python thats built very similar to this. You should test both for a video review.
I have both. The megabass is more parabolic. But tip heavy for me. The zodias is faster but balance is very good.
Sensitivity is about similar for both I find
Just curious, what was the price of the Mega?
@@JPDeRoseOutdoors it was 250
@@JPDeRoseOutdoors I'm in canada as well. It was around 350cnd before tax I think
JPP~ ‘sup?,breathtaking ~ ✨
Where can I buy this rod, can you recommend an online Shop which can ship to Germany. Best regards
That is a tough one for me as I don’t deal with European distributors unfortunately. Did you check to see with Shimano Europe?
I’m awaiting my 4-piece Milliken medium heavy casting rod- this one looks sick tho

Is this rod come in lite I fish for trout
In other markets apparently yes but in North America only these two so far.
V gooooooood rode
I think the S is for spinning. The C models for baitCasting.
Correct. I had a slip of the tongue!
Want one.😊
Would it be so difficult to include a nice Shimano travel rod case? That’d be awesome because 5 pc can turn into 6 real easy.
It’s actually very had to damage when they are properly wrapped together. The case is probably to keep price down but an option would be nice for sure!
Buy a clear acrylic tube to protect it; that's what I did.
How much is this rod?
Depending where you are from, the US market MSRP is right around the $250 mark
Hi,
Greetings!!,
I am interested in this rod, can i have lnk where to purchase this 5 pc rod. I am from India.
Sorry, I am from North America and don’t know who the shimano dealers/retailers are in your area. Maybe check the Shimano website?
Pric
For this price would expect hard case for travel rod
I agree. A hard case would be a reasonable expectation with a rod in this price range.
Good 👍👍👍
Owow nice ❤❤❤

Most of japan uses high end multi piece rods very little people one 1 piece because of space issues
I not a two piece rod or a 4-5 piece rod I am a one piece rod man a daiwa presso ultra light pack rod only $89-$99 comes in a better case than that one what’s up with that man
Not so sure you can compare and ultra light to a medium. I’m sure it’s a great rod and I agree with you, all my rods under 8 feet are one piece!
The 5.8 version is 4 piece. I have that version.
They never released that in the North American Market. Would be cool to have!
Travel rod without a hard case just asking for grief. Shimano fan but I have St.Croix and Temple Fork all with hard rod tube travel case.
I need this rod 😅
Are you able to share where you ordered the rod?
What country are you in?
