6yrs later and you are still A LIFE SAVERRRR!!! I was so stressed out when the button pushed into my dash. Thank you for saving my sanity. And tons of money!!
Came here for a friend that's having issues with his 2017 push starter and sir hats off to you. This was the best tutorial I have ever seen. The explanation and true step-by-step direction is superb 👌
My wife's key fob ran out of battery and she did not realize it. When she went to push start her jeep, she went a little aggressive and the plastic fastener just broke off. Your video saved me hundreds of dollars, can't say enough. Thanks!
My 2015 JGC push start suddenly fell deep into my dash, to the point where I was using a multi-tool to reach in and start and stop my engine (not kewl). Brought it to a local garage who deferred me right to a dealership, which meant a ton of money I didn’t want to spend was about to be spent. I watched this tutorial 2 times. It’s tried and true. Everything with care and a bit of finger force pops off. I relied on the assurance that “even though it sounds like it’s breaking, it’s not” and I couldn’t be more thankful. I would have easily been charged several hundred dollars for labor and the part. I found out the plastic mount fastener snapped, and that I didn’t even have to replace the starter or my fob. I did it all myself for about $20, but would have never thought to until searching and coming across this video. Many, many, thanks!!!!!!
My push button broke the other night but being a mechanics daughter I couldn’t just send it to the shop I knew there had to be an easy way.... took mine apart repaired it for now, I’ll have to order a whole new housing for the button itself, one of my black screw inserts snapped and the white ring is damaged... put a little longer screw to hold it together but now I don’t have to worry about getting my kids to school until I can get the new part.. and I didn’t have to go to the Jeep dealership!! LIFE SAVER!! THANK YOU!!
Thanks for this tutorial... as a female driver I’m always being taken advantage of by the dealership (mom & pop mechanics are more chill) but I always prefer to try to fix things myself. Thanks for giving such a clear tutorial, no fluff, you’re amazing.
Please help me, I have s Honda Jazz 1.3 2016 and the ignition switch is coming as an error , it's a start stop switch, no keys are used. This is just a warning message. The dealship wants 400£.
Thank you so much for your video. Did it exactly how you demonstrated and worked perfectly. Saved me a ton of money. So grateful for people like you are willing to share.
Your video is wonderful. I just got a Jeep Cherokee 2022 with only 30,000 miles and this happened to mine. Fortunately it is under warranty so I take it to the dealer tomorrow. But your excellent explanation makes me feel like I could do it myself if I had to. Now at least I understand what happened, a very good feeling. Thanks!!!
Thank you so much for this video. The button on my 2014 Overland finally cracked/split straight across the lower half after years of use. Saved me time and money!
Thanks a lot for this. I had this happen over the weekend on my 2017 Laredo. In my case the part of the black housing the screw goes into cracked in half and the next day the whole assembly fell inside the dash while away from home. Luckily I saw your video before that happened and by removing the trim under the steering column I was able to locate the push button to start the Jeep and get home to finish the repair.
Perfect, thank you so much for this! My start button did exactly what you said, and it free styling in the dash. I thought it would be an expensive dealer fix, but this should be no problem to fix myself. Thanks!
This just happened to me as I was leaving a friend's house. I was very upset. Thanks for your video. Now I can try to fix it myself. Hopefully without screwing it up.😂
THANK YOU!!! Had my button fall through into the dash when attempting to push/start. Could not start truck! Watched this video and now back in action... got a new screw (one was missing??), super glued a cracked plastic molded washer and into mold and...back in action. Again, big thank you. B/C of people like you I avoided an expensive and burdensome repair at the dealership.
Thank you for this video, I had almost the same problem (it wasn't the 2 screws in my case but the 4 plastic 'rivets' where they had melted the plastic to join the mount to the trim which had failed). The dealership despite us having max care lifetime warranty said "it wasn't covered" what a crock. Actual cost after following your instructions, 1 tube of super glue ($3.75 in Walmart and about 1 hour including trip to the store). Ours is not an SRT but it's an Overland, but what a shoddy way to make a vehicle... and spend a lot on max care lifetime warranty and they don't honor it.
🎉🎉🎉 Thank you so much! This vehicle is a dream and a nightmare! Thankfully there are kind people like yourself to help us keep some cash in our wallets. 🎉
Thanks for this one I just got my trim fixed and 2 days later my button went in and I didn't want to lose another day dropping it off! Thanks a lot brother!
WILLIAM LAST Glad it helped out. When mine broke it freaked me out but then I figured I already knew how to take that trim off so let’s see if we could fix it ourselves. Worked out great!
you are awesome!!! great insight and thanks for saving me $$$$$$$. i have 17 RT and dealing with the power issue. Changing the button/housing is now easier than ever!!!

Love your repair on the push button I have a 2017 grand Cherokee limited. I love it I just replaced myself the thermostat how easy was that again love your video.🙌🏼🙋🏻♂️🙏🏼
This is great thanks. My push to start popped off last night while on so had to use a coat hanger to grab the wire and turn it off. In the process of fixing it and my issue is not the screws but that adapter the screws tie into. The plastic welds came apart, so fixing the attachment. On a side note, in the process of taking off the components some of the clips i.e. white and red fell down into the black hole. Do you know where can order replacement pieces?

Thanks for this video, our plastic housing broke and the screw mount is cracked. Going to try and epoxy it back together. Any idea if it’s possible to buy the plastic ring housing? Couldn’t find it on mopars site. Thanks again!
After replacing the fuel pump/3.7 WK- Im now having a problem with a vapor lock and my new pump is making a ringing/humming noise off and on-is there a way to fix it with a inline check valve or inline filter of some sort. I have to release pressure on the fuel rail to re-crank it after it runs for more than 20 minutes/ which is a possible fire risk.
Did you have to have the new ignition reprogrammed? I’m going to be swapping mine and have heard different things about reprogramming. If you could get back to me asap that’d be geeat
I managed to break the white clip by pushing too hard (the clip that the two tiny screws go through at about the 6:30 mark and that you eventually epoxy the screws into later in the video). Do you know if it's possible to just purchase the white clip itself? The starter itself works fine, but I was hoping to just buy that clip instead of the whole setup.
I replaced the ignition button but still have an issue turning the car on. Is their a brake sensor that communicates with the ignition that could also be the culprit? I'm running out of ideas. Replaced my starter relay sensor and ignition switch and still won't turn on unless I use the remote starter
The plug on the back of the switch looked like it had quite a few possible connectors, but the plug on the wires only looked like it had 2 (or maybe 3) wires connected to it. Is this just a simple momentary contact switch or more of the CANBUS mess? With 2 wires, it could be just for the switch... With 3 wires, it could be the switch (which includes a ground) and an additional power wire for a light for the switch).
Thanks for the info! The 'Start' button our non-SRT Grand Cherokee's black start button's graphics are unreadable and worn off (which I suppose it due to finger oils). I'm looking into ordering a new 'Start' button just to fix the worn-out lettering. :)
My mouth dropped when you started pulling on parts. lol this just happened to my 2014... I’ll be doing this fix, this coming weekend. Thank you. And the dealer wants $628. Do you happen to know the screw size so I can buy before hand?
I'm having problems with the push/start also. I've changed my key fob battery and it's saying not found when I press the break/push button to start it. It locks/un-locks and the remote starts works also. Idk what the issue is.
I have a 2012 charger rt I have put everything brand new on this car and when I crank it it hesitates and then it cranks up is it the fuel pump relay or do I need to change my push button switch
YOU'RE A GENIUS!!! I have been looking since Sunday trying to find a DIY, now I just have a couple of questions, please. I bought my daughter and her family a 2018 Jeep Cherokee Latitude 4WD Plus, it will not start using the Key Fob with or without the battery. I have seen other UA-cam videos stating there is a holder for the key fob in order for the Jeep to detect the key fob and I cannot find it. I cannot even start it with the Key Fob by just touching it to the Engine Start/Stop button and pushing in the break, it shows key fob not detected, which is strange bc in an emergency it should read the chip in the key fob.The key fob will unlock the doors, open the back lift gate, but that's as far as it goes. So do you think that by fixing the push start button, as you did, that will fix the issue? Or do you think it could be a battery issue? Or should I just try it your way first, then the battery, then install a new one? When I am done I am going to have her sell it bc this is not safe. (I sent an email). Thank you for sharing your knowledge, you're a blessing!!
Really not sure why that’s happening. I would contact a dealership and schedule an appointment even if you have to tow it there. Your insurance should cover towing. If the fob opens the doors then how is it not detected? So weird. Did your push/start button break?
@@EastCoastJeepSRT I don't think it is broke. I took the key fob to the dealership and it works, they want me to have it towed to reprogram the key, I know they're going to charge me $375 for the key and $75 to program it. I saw a video a man hit the unlock, lock on the key fob, then the brake and it started, the disabled/key fob not detected was gone. It seems he got to the disabled/key fob not detected because he did a remote start, pushed the brake then pushed the engine start button, once it went off it was disabled, I think it was a Durango. (hope that helps) So I disconnected the battery nothing again. I just read somewhere to just disconnect the negative on the battery, what do you think? My jeep grand cherokee 2016... says it doesnt detect the key, I tried to program them again but it's no use... you'll think there's a loose wired back there on the star push button
After market easygaurd, push button and nothing happened. It’s been working for two years and then just died while I was driving the car. Any suggestions?
hey bro i got a 2017 rt charger. my push start button gives a single beep tone when trying to start my car it also just flashes. today i spent 3 hours trynna figure it out untill i got mad and hit the button harder with the FOB and it fricken started. unreal. anyways ive also been getting a key not detected and key has left the vehicle message lately. could a bad push start button in itself cause these issues? is there a antenna in the switch? my door sensors and lock button work 50% of the time only as well. the car has recently got a brand new front and rear bumper not sure if there is any LF antennas in either of those spots. im irratated as i can only start my car if i tap the push start hard with the key fob itself. oh and the battery in the key fob has been changed out. idk if i bought a bad battery or what still havent tested it. is there a relearn process for a 2017 charger? so many questions so little answers everywhere i go. im stumped.
Is there any way to replace the bush button with a standard key ignition? I hate push to start and will only buy a Wrangler JL if I can give it a key ignition system

I reattached the same push button
Dumb question. But is this the same for a 2015 summit? Wondering and wanting to make sure, the red wire is the power? Tryn to ad a kill switch
Yea it should be identical
if i pushed my start button into the hole on accident and cant see it anymore will trying this still work?
Absolutely. You’ll be able to retrieve it and fix it.
EastCoastJeepSRT thank you so much!
Dope video. @eastcoastjeepsrt do you recall the size screw? Local home Depot didn't have anything that small. Smallest they had was m3-0.5
TANK I don’t. I was able to re-use mine but if you can’t find one to fit just use some two part epoxy. It’ll hold.
How long a push button will last? 4 or 5 years?
Thanks for the video just had to do mine
My jeep grand cherokee 2016... says it doesnt detect the key, I tried to program them again but it's no use... you'll think there's a loose wired back there on the star push button
After market easygaurd, push button and nothing happened. It’s been working for two years and then just died while I was driving the car. Any suggestions?
hey bro i got a 2017 rt charger. my push start button gives a single beep tone when trying to start my car it also just flashes. today i spent 3 hours trynna figure it out untill i got mad and hit the button harder with the FOB and it fricken started. unreal. anyways ive also been getting a key not detected and key has left the vehicle message lately. could a bad push start button in itself cause these issues? is there a antenna in the switch? my door sensors and lock button work 50% of the time only as well. the car has recently got a brand new front and rear bumper not sure if there is any LF antennas in either of those spots. im irratated as i can only start my car if i tap the push start hard with the key fob itself. oh and the battery in the key fob has been changed out. idk if i bought a bad battery or what still havent tested it. is there a relearn process for a 2017 charger? so many questions so little answers everywhere i go. im stumped.
Yes, could be the fob itself. I’ve had that happen too. Was it ever accidentally washed?
If the switch is bad does it make your car run rough
Negative
Is there any way to replace the bush button with a standard key ignition? I hate push to start and will only buy a Wrangler JL if I can give it a key ignition system

2017 Jeep Grand Cherokee
I’m trying to figure out how to remove the inside panels in the back to install rear camera wire without going along the headliner because of the side curtain airbag It’s hard to even get the top Side panel to pop out to see how far the side curtain airbag goes back
I know how to get everything apart along the floor all the way to the back seat then some of the panels I can’t figure out how to pop out either side right side with the sub woofer and left side with the power outlets
can you direct me to any video or give me any info?
Thanks
Great contents as usual !
Good video, thanks.
Hello, does this work for any vehicle with a push start button? I am having the same issue with my 2014 Cadillac. Please advise and if so, thank you for the help.
Maybe? This was made to show you how to fix it on a Jeep. Might be the same on other vehicles but might not. Can’t say
@@EastCoastJeepSRT thank you!
