Being a young child then, I became attached to my Mareep-turned Amphoras, and he was the best Pokémon I ever had. The only real reason I still have an attachment to Amphoras is probably because that’s the only feeling for him I ever had, and nostalgia will magnify that ten times over. This part will sound even more childish, but the one thing that would ever satisfy my attachment to Amphoras would be seeing him in real life, right in front of me. Yes, we all know that can’t and won’t ever happen, but (disappointedly) that’s what I wish was real.

For me I love that in the roll of League Champions they didn't show the faces of the Unovan champions, there was just a clap of Alder and Iris's hands like they were tagging, and they didn't even show their Pokémon. This video made me want to cry for quite literally no reason at all, and HOLY SHIT YOU ARE RIGHT THAT SHIT IS WAY MORR FUCKING AMAZING THAN I THOUGHT WHEN I FIRST WATCHED THIS HOLY FUCKING SHIT
I loved every bit of this music video even though I found out about it suuuper late. It brought back many fond memories of each Pokemon games' story lines, themes, and characters.
Rei's touch is incredible on these short productions where we can see her no-holds-barred. Without fail, I get hit over the head with a baseball bat of charm. Short durations also allow Rie to lean into the information density you discussed. Though I think it is a bit unfair to compare the production of a commercial with a series or movie given duration, I'm almost willing concede. That, and Bump of Chicken fucking owns. I think I would legitimately die if we ever got a Kekkai Sensen S3 with Rie back at it.
That's probably not gonna happen..... like I wish it would, but its not.... mainly cause tho her output is amazing, her perfectionism and management schedule is the OPPOSITE. She's just not good at that aspect, which TVA demands a lot. Its why the Season Finale of Kekkai Sensen was delayed for MONTHS. Her format is almost perfect for Music Videos and Movies. Im hoping she goes back to doing movies like her Pretty Cure Days, cause sadly, its what fits her work style the best....even if her Perfectionism makes her TVA stuff to be fucking AMZING. Only hope for her to comeback to TVA is her learning how to manage her Perfectionist Style with Management and learns how to balance it.
0:27 made me bust out laughing. One day it'll happen, man! I've been crossing my fingers too! 4:48 Honestly wouldn't mind. Your breakdown of the direction has shown me so much I didn't even pick up the first time
Can we also talk about 2 nice timing details? Those being that Mew stopped to look at the screen at 2:27 which references the anniversary (27th of February) and the song being 151 seconds long (I know it's the short version and that we could argue that it isn't exactly, it just ended roughly at that time), which obviously references the 151 first Pokemons
Now thinking of it, when you talk about past and future, the theme is a main part of the video and it became the main part of the Scarlet And Violet storyline
Loved this when it came out. Couldn't stop watching it to be honest, replay value 100. My favorite part was the explosion of hair from the male to female protags. A nostaliga hit for sure.
The original video was only three minutes long but I personally spent over an hour pausing and replaying and looking at every single frame because gosh darn it those three minutes flew by too fast!!
If only the adventure manga could get this attention, maybe one day. This perfectly describes how I felt i when I watched the Heaven's Feel 3 fights and iconic scenes, notably Salter vs Rider and Shirou, and Shirou and Archer in Berserker fight. I miss it so much.
The first thing that I noticed when I watched it was the very quick moment with Marnie and morpeko where morpeko forces a smile of Marnie's face by pushing her cheeks. It went by so quick but noticed it and loved it since IN Sword and Shield Marnie does have a post game moment where she's practicing smiling in a room in Motostoke.
I can see why the director hasnt dont a series or movie, her style, elaborated in the video, is made for music video and condensed work. I think calling this the best anime, a piece of work, is somewhat unfair to longer works. I have some of the best episodes I have ever seen reside in series that that fizzled out like Babalyon from last year and Kado the Right Answer. In this aspect, longer series had more chances to fail in the long long chain of production. Its like comparing a music video to a movie of tv series where they both have their own strengths and weakness in their format and production. Dont get me wrong, I think this is one of the best made anime works in 2020 I have seen for its direction ans such but not compare it with other anime that must balance characters, the story, production, and length of time to make it.
The title had to have been for clickbait. Nobody can tell me with a straight face this 4 minute long music video was better than RE Zero or Babylon lol
Oh no, I’m going to fall down a rabbit hole of loving Rie Matsumoto’s other works, aren’t I? Oh well. I accept my fate! I really relate to what you said towards the end of the video. There’s just something about “GOTCHA!” that reminds me why I still love Pokémon after all these years.
Despite some issues I have the Pokemon Company it's honestly very hard for me to hate them. Despite what others say I still love the series and its developer Game Freak for the years of entertainment they've given me. Even though Sword and Shield aren't my favorite games in the series they're far from bad and have mechanics I'd love to see going forward. And I still believe it has the most charming cast of characters in the series. But to each their own. I hope to see something like this again in the future, or maybe even hire the animator for the next movie since each one after I Choose You has had a different art style.
I'll fully admit that I wish this became the next series, where it focuses on those trainers, with the group of friends and the pair traveling and having their own journeys.
I'm a big Matsumoto fan as well but it wasn't a solo project you know? The easily recognisable expression-work that is in focus in lot of the shots is classic Yuki Hayashi - the fun animation in chief. Not to mention the animation lineup that included Yutaka fking Nakamura
The 1st time I watched Gotcha was a few weeks after it released and I had immediately gotten strong Kekkei Sensen vibes. I already knew Kekkei Sensen's opening song(hello, world) and Gotcha's song(Acacia) were performed by Bump of chicken before I watched Gotcha, since I learned Acacia existed from Spotify but I didn't listen to it yet. Anyway, the Kekkei Sensen vibes I was getting were mostly from the animation, so when I 1st saw Gotcha and looked up the production team, I was happy I wasn't surprised. When it was airing, I used to watch Kekkei Sensen's op a lot for the visuals and I would even rewatch certain eps too. Even now, I still watch the opening from time to time. Well every 2-7 months, I just sit down and watch a bunch of my favourite ops. In hindsight, I feel like Gotcha was bound to happen. I forgot it existed and how nostalgic it made me feel until Gotcha, but someone had done Kekkei Sensen's 1st ed with pokemon characters, years ago. Now, Gotcha exists and it makes me feel way more nostalgic.
Are we not going to talk about how Morpeko pushed up Marnie's cheeks to make her smile and how fucking adorable that was?

I didn't notice the legendaries appeared in the ground until watching this video. Just focused in the ones in the buildings. Great analysis btw.
Love those super in depth moments! :D
HAHA I totally thought they left out Kukui by accident, only to realize he is in here at the last minute messing with Elm when you pointed them out
I never really thought about Gotcha being such a good short anime film until now. Thanks for helping me realize that.
I literally watch this video once a day I can never get enough of the animation and music beats
Thank you for getting me to watch this video. I’m so happy now.
i didnt even see this video, thanks for entering my feed and letting me see it
This video made me want to cry for quite literally no reason at all, and HOLY SHIT YOU ARE RIGHT THAT SHIT IS WAY MORR FUCKING AMAZING THAN I THOUGHT WHEN I FIRST WATCHED THIS HOLY FUCKING SHIT
I loved every bit of this music video even though I found out about it suuuper late. It brought back many fond memories of each Pokemon games' story lines, themes, and characters.
I am so grateful to you man, I love GOTCHA even more after this video, thank you
God I loved this Music Video. The shot of the legendary on going battle between Red Vs Gold was so awesome
I watched this only once and I didn't know I missed so much!! There's A LOT of small Details in this omg
0:27 made me bust out laughing. One day it'll happen, man! I've been crossing my fingers too!
4:48 Honestly wouldn't mind. Your breakdown of the direction has shown me so much I didn't even pick up the first time
That explanation of redirecting our attention to the center no matter what literally BROKE MY MIND I love it thank you
I'd never noticed the Dark-type trainers popping up outside of the frame before until it was pointed out!
Yo I forgot about that music video. That video was literally perfect.
Okay so basically the pokemon music video will make every fan cry so hard easily
Well shucks, I didn't know about this video... Now I´m crying. Thank you.
Now thinking of it, when you talk about past and future, the theme is a main part of the video and it became the main part of the Scarlet And Violet storyline
Love this. The music video made plenty of people shed tears :')
Loved this when it came out. Couldn't stop watching it to be honest, replay value 100. My favorite part was the explosion of hair from the male to female protags. A nostaliga hit for sure.
after two years, this music video is still so amazing
this video was legendary. I could not stop crying
it ALMOST brought you to tears? You Sir, have no Soul! D:
I appreciate this more than you'll ever know
You gotta give props to studio bones too. They did a phenomenal job animating this.
I never thought I wanted a slice of life highschool pokemon anime. But now i need it
Loved how you gave kekkai sensen some love
The original video was only three minutes long but I personally spent over an hour pausing and replaying and looking at every single frame because gosh darn it those three minutes flew by too fast!!
Bro it did bring me to tears
If only the adventure manga could get this attention, maybe one day.
This perfectly describes how I felt i when I watched the Heaven's Feel 3 fights and iconic scenes, notably Salter vs Rider and Shirou, and Shirou and Archer in Berserker fight. I miss it so much.
The first thing that I noticed when I watched it was the very quick moment with Marnie and morpeko where morpeko forces a smile of Marnie's face by pushing her cheeks. It went by so quick but noticed it and loved it since IN Sword and Shield Marnie does have a post game moment where she's practicing smiling in a room in Motostoke.
yeah i watched this so much when it came out
BRO I DIDNT EVEN NOTICE THE DARK TYPE TRAINERS THATS SO COOL
bro stop, its 1 am and i am high, i was told a lot of things i didnt know after wathcing it for so long, so my mind is FRIED
Not the best but surely better than re zero
@@asneakychinchilla2820 this was surely the best animation wise
You really have taste!! Agree!! And the othet animes that you mentioned at the beggining, agree again!!
Oh no, I’m going to fall down a rabbit hole of loving Rie Matsumoto’s other works, aren’t I? Oh well. I accept my fate! I really relate to what you said towards the end of the video. There’s just something about “GOTCHA!” that reminds me why I still love Pokémon after all these years.
ty for showing me the video💚💚💚🙏🙏
I got so many chills that its uncountable
Despite some issues I have the Pokemon Company it's honestly very hard for me to hate them. Despite what others say I still love the series and its developer Game Freak for the years of entertainment they've given me. Even though Sword and Shield aren't my favorite games in the series they're far from bad and have mechanics I'd love to see going forward. And I still believe it has the most charming cast of characters in the series. But to each their own. I hope to see something like this again in the future, or maybe even hire the animator for the next movie since each one after I Choose You has had a different art style.
Definitely the best cast of characters ever in the franchise.
The TV in your home in Moon references stand by me as well
I'll fully admit that I wish this became the next series, where it focuses on those trainers, with the group of friends and the pair traveling and having their own journeys.
I'm a big Matsumoto fan as well but it wasn't a solo project you know? The easily recognisable expression-work that is in focus in lot of the shots is classic Yuki Hayashi - the fun animation in chief. Not to mention the animation lineup that included Yutaka fking Nakamura
There is something about it that gives me chills
that song brought memories thats most important for me.....animation style was something else as well
I have simple tastes.
I love Pokemon,
I love high quality anime music videos.
Therefore, I love this.
I absolutely loved the music video and I've never watched that mich pokemon. This video will probably be interesting
I'm not surprised at all.
It looks GORGEOUS.
I can never stop pogging after seeing that and this video
I love how they basically added Rin into the Pokemon universe. I also smile everytime the precious sunshine child Hau shows up x3
Well I know several people who re-fell in love with pokemon thanks to Gotcha
You need more subs man
This to me is actually the best-animated feature and music that is affiliated with Pokemon. Huge props to Rie Matsumoto and Bump of Chicken.
Yes, I cried watching the MV.
And you did too.
