Donkey Kong Country 3 Deserves Better...or Does it?

The Donkey Kong Country series is perfect...well, almost perfect that is. After the cascading heights that were set by Donkey Kong Country 2, what was left for this series to accomplish? Should a 3rd a game be developed to try and beat out DKC 2, or should it be phoned in and made as an obligation to its fans?
Donkey Kong Country 3: Dixie's Double Trouble is an interesting game to say the least...and I'm gonna figure out what's going on with it.

I've still never played DKC3, but as a kid, the biggest turn off was just the new characters. It shouldn't matter, in the end they're just sprites you use to jump. Yet, I looked at the cover, saw there was no Donkey or Diddy, and went, "meh." It's like any movie sequel where the main actors didn't return. The brain just kind dismissed it, even if it deserved better.
