Thanks Claude, I have only one more slant razor to go! Flash Boredom, aka Graham has played a blinder by lending me these razors. I've enjoyed it immensely. Enjoy your weekend, mate. Cheers.
It does have a nice finish in the solid Aluminium. I might well try a 'normal' iKon safety razor to see what they are like. I'll look for one second hand. I'm glad you enjoyed the shave. Thanks very much, Jeremy. All the best.
I guess it makes sense that the warming of pepper can have a therapeutic effect rather like the cooling of peppermint--just with the opposite temperature. Plus I would think that hot pepper would have some nice anti-inflammatory properties. Wonderful video and shave--a good weekend to you!
That's an interesting thought that I hadn't considered. That might be worth looking into, a bit more. I'm glad you enjoyed the video. I liked this slant best, so far 😃
Oh mate, the haircut! I've got new clippers and I'm really struggling with them. The scent is gorgeous, on that soap. Obviously there's a nice sweetness to it, which seems to appeal to me. The box arrived too. 👍
Glad you found a slant that works for you, Mark. Your approach has paid off! I've learned a lot, so thanks once again. As for the soap, I just bought a tub of Abbate y La Mantia Vulcano, an excellent performer that is scented with capsicum seeds. Most of the heat is removed; to me it smells like cayenne minus what makes you sneeze. But some remains, and it leaves a warming sensation by the end of the shave that's not the least harsh, maybe because, like menthol, capsicum is a pain reliever. I'm finding the soap pairs well with Clubman Virgin Island Bay Rum or Captain's Choice Cat o' Nine Tails, each of which has a burn to it. Cheers.
Ah! I didn't know that Capsicum is a pain reliever! Now that is interesting. I wonder if the nerve endings react the same way to cold or heat, to a certain degree. Have you ever put you toes under cold water, in the bath, and for a moment think your being burned. I wondered what Volcano was like. I do like their Don Jose soap. Thanks for that great information buddy. Enjoy your weekend 👍
Yes, and cold toes under hot water is no picnic either. But I think I'll follow your lead and try a cold water shave with the A y La M soap. You have a good weekend, too.
I've been intrigued by slants since first seeing them. Reminds me of the saying 'the thin end of the wedge'. Whether scraping wallpaper, paint or just frost off the windshield (windscreen), attacking at an angle is more efficient with less effort. One of these days I'll purchase a slant. Good video Mark. Keep filming!
Hello there, I'm sorry about the delayed reply. It's just been one of those weeks. I have a few more slants to look at and I'm looking forward to it. In all honesty though, I think I prefer a standard de razor. Keep well. See you next time around 👍
Slants are the kings in DE shaving and doesn't get the attention they deserve in my opinion. Excellent shaving today my friend. Wish you a great weekend🌞
Another fine review Mark! I have so enjoyed your series on slants. So far, this Ikon appears to be the top choice. At $40.00, quite a good deal. I’m looking forward to which slant you will be finishing up with! Warmest Regards, Zac.
It's been ages since I used the 37c. I'll have to see if i still have one and get it out again for a shave. As to your question, it's been a bit too long since I used the 37c to give you a good answer.
Mark, when I started DE shaving, Ikon was the Ikon. I threw the SBS away, too aggressive by far. The slants X3 + Shavecraft 102 I kept, finding the 102 more comfortable, similar close. Still, for unknown reason, my slant used are much less. The sideburn I still havnt mastered, they're slanted, once using em. Chili in the soap, congrats, you're daring. Cheerio.
Here in Singapore most nations eat chili, lot of it. Myself, I stay at distance, though chili has lots of vitamin C. Here they say eat sugar, if it burns too much, but if that is applicable to our face, I nvr tried...
Hi Mark. Every time you said you couldn't find your towel I was looking at your bathroom door and shouting "It's behind you". Panto season has come early in my house! Great video, as always.
I’ve been studying the slant razors for some time now and just this week I ordered an iKon X3 with the bulldog handle. They were both on sale and quite the bargain. I also popped for the iKon razor travel case and an assortment of DE blades. I will report back on my opinion on the X3. I read that iKon does a lot of their finishing work in Austin, Texas. I live just south of Austin, but the order was filled in New Jersey. They must have distribution points around the U.S. I understand there’s a slight variation in the combs on each side. Did you notice any difference? Also, your alum block intrigued me as it was a clear block. Where did you purchase that one from? Thanks for reviewing the razor. It gives me a warm fuzzy that I made a good choice for a slant razor. Have a great weekend.
Hey Bradley. You can't beat a bargain and I think you'll like the X3. I honestly can't remember if I noticed a difference in the X3 comb; if I didn't mention it on video, then I didn't notice. I have just shaved with a Yaqi slant head, which is really quite aggressive but smooth. I'll be reviewing it next week. The block may have come from Connaught shaving but, again it's just a guess. It's been too long. It was very inexpensive! Cheers.
Hi Bradley, how did you like the X3? since you have studied slants for awhile I have a question for you, what is the difference between the X3 and the B1 slant? they look the same to me apart from one of them being black coloured, but I cant find and info on this...cheers.
George I have been using the X3 since last December and I really like its performance. I pair it with an Astra Green which is a great match for my skin/beard. As far as the B1 is concerned, I believe it’s just the coating which makes it different from the X3. I doubt there’d be any performance difference. In addition the B1’s coating makes it very expensive. I’ve always been partial to a matte finish, so the X3 is just right for me. Cheers 🍻!
@@bradleycred99 Nice one, thanks for the reply, do you think the X3 is more aggressive than the Merkur 37c? I have seen in a review that the X3 has a steeper slant....could be better since my hair is hella thick and i'm using it for head shaving
Hey Johan, I hope you're keeping well. I always get a bit of burn with a straight razor. Perhaps you get used to it. I like a close shave with a bit of burn when you slap on the aftershave! 😊
Hello Mark, I find shaving with the X3 a bit frustrating - very smooth but not efficient enough for me, and the round shape of the head makes the angle of shaving a bit narrow in my experience. It is one of those razor heads that is not so intuitive, or I can't warm up to. Sounds like we are talking about different razors... but obviously our experiences are quite different, and that always fascinates me... as we are not advancing a cause, but just trying to put our shaving experience in words, and in this case the experience appears to be somewhat different... Regards, Roberto
How interesting. It does indeed sound like we are talking about different razors, entirely. I find it strange that two people could have such a different experience but that keeps it interesting. I do like your phrase 'we're not advancing a cause, just trying to put our shaving experience into words'. I think that is very well put. Take care, Roberto.
Great shave Mark, i had the iKon X3 and 102 heads, i had trouble fitting the blade to the X3, ended up selling both but i still own one of there handles so i might by the 102 again sometime to go with the handle. Honestly never thought you would like that soap very much but pleased you do, i do agree, there balms are superb, but boy....the menthol, when that kicks in, i really wish they also made a unscented version. With regard to your samples from Lather Bros, they still might come, when i bye from Canada, i pay the cheapest shipping and it roughly takes two months I have a Merkur 37 Slant if you want to try it out?? let me know mate :)
That soap is very strange but I do enjoy it. I didn't think I would, after I read the ingredients but it is great. I love the scent, I think I like a slightly sweet scent which is probably why I like El Barbero so much. If you would let me know next time you order Neil, I'd like to buy a tub or two, if that's okay? I would like to try the 37c, please. Another chap, Darren, is lending me his 39c - to be honest, I'm not up on Merkur razors, so I'll have to check they are not the same heads with different handles etc.
Merkur Slant 39C chrome plated safety/DE razor. This Merkur Slant is a longer handled version of the 37C with a slanted blade exposure.@@FriendshipShaving
Ah, in that case Neil I won't need your 37c, as I've already said yes to the 39c. Thank you for the offer though, it was very kind of you. I can swap the handle of the 39c for a shorter handle, which will be interesting.
I think the X3 is the winner so far, Tal. Very close and no post shave discomfort at all. Mind you Roberto finds it an entirely different shave. It's funny how that works, sometimes. Enjoy your weekend too. 👍
I'd love to borrow the 39c Darren. If you're able to contact me through Facebook messenger or via happy-mark@live.co.uk that would be terrific. Thanks for the offer. Take care 👍

Yes, your right Will. I hadn't thought of it, but it is the first slant I've been positive about. I did quite like the Razorock German 37, but I'm being loaned a Merkur 37c so it will be very interesting to see how that shaves. All the best, mate. Cheers.
Friendship Shaving Can’t wait to see how the 37c goes I’ve looked at that one. I’m not going to purchase one till I get better with the DE’s razors first. I’m going to make an update shave vid in next few weeks to see how I’m going. Hope your having a great weekend mate. 👍
@@FriendshipShaving Are they the indian or China blades? Not many people know but there are two types. The Indian Gillete Wilkinson sword blades are best.
They are Indian, I will check that though. I'm pulling your leg slightly. They are pretty good but I popped them in a razor I'm finding very aggressive indeed. I may well go with my R89 or something of that nature today.

I have tried a few cheaper razors - some have been good and some not so good but I may explore the cheaper razors a bit more at some point.
