Hey Bryan, for me I am sold on my Marquis, I have A/B it against at least 12 different Authentic's and custom built D-28s and not a one has made me even conceder changing guitars. Every Authentic I've played sounded " wet " or " muffled " they are very light. The best one I have played was a used Aged model, as far as comfortable nothing I have ever played or owned felt as good as that guitar, the rolled over edge on the fret board was AMAZING, if it had the tone of my Marquis I would have had to trade my in for it, but sadly it too sounded wet but not as bad as the others. Now I know given time for those Authentic's to open up that might change.

Both are very similar toned guitars to my ear. The Marquis is a bit softer whereas the Authentic has more bite to the attack especially on the 3rd string. Both are guitars I would gladly own & play!!!!!!!

I like the sound of the Marquis, possibly more volume...all in the ear of the beholder.

I wanted a marquis for years. Held off and am glad i did. The authentics are on a whole other league. N while the marquis are and always will be awesome. Nothing beats a d28 without a truss rod. Hand made with hide glue.

You have a truss rod. It's just non adjustable.

@@Bryankimsey not that i can tell. A truss rod when you tap on the neck makes a sound. This is just wood.

Thanks for the video. I just ordered a custom shop d35 with an Adirondack top. I watched your d35 videos and they are great if you ever come across one with an Adirondack top I love to see a video on that.

The two HD-35's I videoed have red spruce tops.

Confirms my opinion that the Marquis owns the bass thump. Both great guitars, more articulation on the GE, but that Marquis bottom is hard to beat. And that after you shortened the bridge.

Uh... neither of these guitars is a GE. One is an Authentic, the other is a Marquis. Also, I didn't shorten the bridge. I moved the saddle. Just clarifying your terminology.

I own the D28 Marquis and the D18GE. You are correct in my opinion on your thinking that they are the pair to own with 1 and 3/4 nuts in a dread. They're great guitars, but mine both play sharp on the 6th string, What about locating the bridge a hair back from where it is? I'm a little bit afraid of that break angle I hope sometime to remedy the intonation and change the Marquis to Waverley tuners like the D18GE (my favorite of the two, but the Marquis is close).

You mean scoot the _saddle_ back? First thing to do is flop a yardstick on it and see where it needs to be. Find my videos on "Evaluating a 70's Martin for Purchase" and "Locating the bridge". Your break angle might not be too bad, esp if you haven't slotted the bridge.

Do you know if Martin’s lifetime warranty will pay for the 70s bridge relocation to the proper place?

They put an oversized bridge on. Yuck.
