Thomas Lang playing "High" featuring Freddie Nelson

- This is a drum-performance of the song "High" from the "Progpop"-album.
The beat is tricky and it involves a lot of complex orchestration in a 4-bar cycle, some applied non-linear independence and a left-foot cowbell-ostinato. The concept behind this -and several other beats on the "Progpop"-album was to reverse-engineer 80's Pop Music drum-machine programming and play these layered rhythms of drum-and percussion parts live on a drum set.
The song is about new-years resolutions and since it's still January it's an appropriate time to post this. Hope you're all sticking to your strict diets of Flamadiddles and Shirley Murphy's! Cheers!
This is the result of a lifelong dedication to his craft. Perfect practice yields unbelievable talent and groove. Maestro Lang is beyond amazing.
Drums and percussion section.....Lang, your an absolute beast....one of the "greats"...
JUST WOW. This guy is a machine. That is by far the greatest illustration of limb independence I've ever seen. That requires not of this world focus and concentration to make the arms and legs do those movements in that order. UNREAL!!!
Inspirational and uniquely musical.
Such a groove. Amazing, as always. Thanks so much for posting.
Amazing as always, thank you Jesus
Jesus has nothing to do with it dude.
The man with the 4 brains
Well TL does it again. Left foot ostinato on a cow bell?, 16th or 32nd note blasts with right foot on bass drum, with left hand blasts on gong drum? Just marvelously insane.
That's really what can be called as "MAGIC LOOP ", awesome....
Man.... that was beautiful!
Glad you liked it!
Amazing, very interesting and creative groove
It's crazy how relaxed you looked playing this great groove with the best tuning i ever listen that i think no one drummer on the planet has also the choises of what are you hit every time is great how good programmed to give this perfection.
The technic don't use him, HE use the technic!
Is that a snom?
😳😮😦😖🤯🤯🤯🤯😭
Damn! That was TOO cool!!!
excellent performance teacher Thomas Lang... Greetings from Lima - Peru
1.25x is way cooler 👀
It totally is! Awesome idea! I think it sounds better. I bet he could play it at this speed. One of the best drummers ever.
comment of the year
Cool, nice groove 👌5 brains? 🤯
Thomas getting creative with his drum set-ups. Innovative and inspiring!
Good stuff Tom ,
I really like the lyrics of the song.

Beautiful Thomas 😍 Nice voice!
Freddie Nelson is an amazing singer and songwriter!
Great!!!!!
So creative!
Mastery. Fantastic groove.
Thank you!
Fantastic!!!
Go Thomas!!
Octopus Lang at it again!
Your 4 limb independence is astounding! What model Vic Firth headphones do you use?
He has inhuman 4 limb independence
Just their standard isolation headphones
@@Mutts1979 Yes, and an incredible talent for applying it musically!
brilliance😍❤️
Thomas Lang is the dude that Elon Musk has spent his adult life trying to travel to Mars to meet in person.
Hahahahaha this it was cool man love it, great comment!!!
OMG! GOAT!
WTF ?)))))
5:02 Guy in control room " Ok you wanna try a take ? "

Como sempre surpreendente!!!
👍👍👍👍👍
is that his foot controlling the cowbell? Whaaaa????
Yes
Check out Horatio ’el Negro’ with Michel Camilo live with On Fire and you will see more left foot kick’n cowbell.
Ufffff que nivel 🔥🔥🔥🔥🇲🇽
Sssssssssnom!
My men de Luxe Luxe👏👏👏👏👏👏👏
How the heck are you getting that right snare sound?
I think it’s his Snom (snare/floor tom)
@@steech193 it's like, what super tight up top and super low underneath? I've never heard that sound organically? Haha
It's got a trigger on it, just next to the china
@@TC-lk2ev oooooooh I didn't seen it down there. That makes sense
@@RickyParkerDrums Yeah i was looking for it too because I had no idea how it was making that noise haha.
Only TL can be percussionist and drummer in the same time
Witchcraft
2:10 wtf
wtf
My thoughts exactly.
I can't feel good with these "Snoms". To me they sound... not good... 🙄
Well he's got and uses 2 regular ones just as much. Well, "Regular" if you don't think about they abnormally small and large sizes respectively but you get what I mean.
@@dimitriid For sure, and it's OK if he wants it that way. But I don't like em 😅
Thomas should have his brain scanned whilst doing this to see what is happening and where, in which parts are active. What kind of parallel processing array does he have, how is it wired.
Nice example for "What people think is hard on drums vs what really is hard"
Just looking at TL smile while doing crazy shit knowing he is absolutely nailing every hit just makes me wanna go practice more and more.
Love the cycling linear groove!
man ... great musical playing ... AND a very big hand for the IDEAS !!!! love it.
alien!!
Awesome!
🤟
Que lindo es verlo tocar a este señor!
Üstad
Excellent! but needs a break or change from the track rhythm sooner in the tune... a little more rhythmic "back and forth" from simple to complex rhythms prior to the 3:20 mark--but a really well polished performance! tight and steady!
The guy playing with a jacket like he's at Guitar Center sound testing a cymbal. Master of masters
🙌🙌🙌🙌🙌
He got the foot-bell
👍🏻👍🏻👍🏻
