- This is a breakdown of the drum-groove of the song "High" from the album
"ProgPop". Quite a few of you have asked a bunch of questions about the pattern and were wondering about how the left-foot cowbell ostinato would keep going while there is a double-bass fill happening in verse 2. Well, here's how all that works. Hope you enjoy! - Розваги
He was programmed by Skynet 35 years from now and sent back in time to teach us these rhythms.
True my friend,I always said he was the Arnold Swartzenneger of drumming, from the same country ,lol
No doubt he's quite nearly superhuman on the kit
🙈🤣🤣🤣👍
Awesome tutorial. I can now practice this groove on my 3 snare kit with additional roto toms, gong drums and bell hats as well as a cowbell kick pedal, which I casually have set up in my basement. :D
Most people (Looking at myself) would have to use a drum machine to create this or loop it with a Multi-pad etc. If all I heard was the audio, no way you'd convince me this wasn't done on a drum machine. What's really cool is how Thomas put this kit together. A kick pedal on the cowbell, the 2 bells hi-hat ? The gong & the rata tom.... Pure genius. Such a superb drummer. Just wow !
I have thought about it for a long time who the best is ,it's hard to deny Tomas as a prime candidate along with maybe a few others that I won't mention right now
6 minutes in and he's STILL adding parts!
I had a lot of fun playing this beat. l loved the challenge! It took some practicing, but when l broke it down, wrote it down and played it slow, l had no problem increasing the tempo. It works just fine if you use a floor tom instead of a snom, a middle tom instead of a third snare, a high tom in place of the ratta tom and a second, larger floor tom in place of the gong drum. Great groove, Thomas! Thanks for giving me some great ideas! :)
I laugh every time Thomas says, "Just." Beyond technical brilliance once again.
You could spend an entire lifetime practicing each song of the POP PROG. I definitively love that album, the flavors, colour and the patterns are just amazing. This HIGH song is the definition of solid time keeping, I noticed that the very first time I heard it
Thanks for sharing your knowledge with us !

Fantastic!
5:30 is slightly tricky. LOLOL
yeah, I actually snorted at that :)
Yeah. Thomas is a freaking machine! 🥁❤️
The terminator of the drums💪
Excellent Tomás 👋👋👋👋 profesional 👏👏👏
When people see this they are like “this is hella dope. Everyone else sucks!” But yet they don’t ever or can’t understand how hard it gets as you go on and on
Oh yeah…I just need to dig out my snom and I’ll have it. Well, I’ll have the part where he walks in and says, “Hi.” Maybe… Very cool stuff! When he says “that’s a little tricky…” my head explodes and my drums melt.
That is too cool!!!
This man is Amazing waouhhhh !!!
Ideias simples, mas execuções complexas, esse é o mestre Thomas Lang
Thanx for sharing🙂🙂🙂🤘
Reminds me slightly of Time. Of all the breakdowns I'd love to see, that would be it.
❤❤❤❤❤❤❤insanely talented 🤘🤘🤘🥁🥁🥁🥁🔥🔥🔥
bad ass beat
OMG, amazing brainwork
🤯
Drum God
It’s challenging because it wasn’t originally played by a single drummer at one time. I can layer crap into a computer program all day long. Easy. This fellow is playing it (and it’s awesome, not my crap). Wow!!!
🌹 💞 💞 💞
Making the impossible possible
💣💥🎶💯🙌
I wonder if the sounds are processed to sound synthetic deliberately....
"What's the difference between a drum machine and a drummer?" I would have said: the drummer has feel!
🙏💪💪💪💪🥁🥁🥁
TK - "that is slightly tricky".... 32nd notes between gong drum and bass drum (right foot) with left foot ostinato on cow bell on the and - ahs. Me: "oh this should take about ten minutes to get down". More like 8 or 9 months for me if ever. TL being the Master again.
Should have been TL at the beginning. Hate autocorrect.
The pattern reminds me of Don't Come Around Here No More by Tom Petty.
Üstad
What sticks do you use?
His Vic Firth signature sticks.
Got 4 Snares! Can't play this though. :)
That’s it! I’m just missing the coffee!! Yeah, that’s the ticket…
“I’ll start with the basic pattern of the song”
1:00 ⚰️
🤣🤣🤣🤣 too much snare 😆🔝🔥
Alien DNA, I'm tellin ya.
You mean a cybernetic organism from the future
@@dcmastermindfirst9418 Sure, why not, lol.
Never a challenge...S.O.S...🤪
You have to either be TL or an octopus to play this
What was the coffee?😊
I'd have to make the left foot a loop on my multipad 🤣💀
машина
schoolly d
my brain hurts
mine implode🙊
„That‘s slightly tricky“
Well, to me that’s impossible 😅
Freak!
Jesus! I'm crying...please give us one song with 4/4 and nothing else...please
Well fuck.
You should stop talking and add a whilstle with some samba patterns over all this. Without it it's too easy and it simply does not count ;)
Holy shit, you need to calm down a bit haha
Are you going to the Music City Drum Show in Nashville?
5:34..."that's slightly tricky"....oh ok cool i thought it was very tricky
