Absolutely love these live golf lessons. I could watch you guys teach and listen to your analysis all day. Your videos are the keys to the golfing kingdom. Thanks so much for taking the time to make and edit these videos and for sharing them.
Awesome we hope they help. Thanks for watching 🙏🏻💯
love you guys. i love golf. ill be here a long time. thank you guys
Love it🙏🏻. Thanks for the support, we hope the videos help!
These are gold. Love watching the process. One thing that would really help is if you have them close their eyes and visualize or sense their swing. If they have an unhelpful pattern there you won’t be able to make sustainable change with them. We have to identify faulty mind patterns to make changes OR hit 10000 balls under expert supervision like the pros. The key is that some players visualize their swing and others just sense it. If they have a bad pattern, cognitive knowledge won’t change it most of the time. It is best to remove the old pattern first. It can be done easily but 99.9% of people don’t 1) know it’s an issue or 2) don’t know how to clear the pattern. I could show you in 15 min. It is a game changer. Like you using 3d vs others using 2d with bad camera angles!
You are both awesome!
Alan
I love you guys and I feel like you provide a NECESSARY service to the beginner golf community. So many times we're coached on cues and we wind up taking the cues for what is supposed to actually happen during the swing. This leads down to some pretty wonky mechanics when left to practice on our own. You guys and your channel are great because you bring the coaching cues back to reality and always have examples for what ACTUALLY HAPPENS during the swing. Thank you so much for putting these together for us!
Great point and we couldn’t agree more about the cues often leading to some wonky mechanics. As players, we been down that road many times too. Thanks for checking them out🙏🏻💯
Thanks lads
Best duo in golf instruction, always learn so much and relearn the things you have taught before. Very consistent messaging is great. Easy to follow and continue to add to our knowledge! Thanks men
Love your videos and this one especially. You gentlemen are so much help and have provided an insane amount of quality to my golf swing. THANK YOU!!
Note: It'd be awesome to see what you're showing the golfer during swing replay! :)
Lol, yes it would be. We got wrapped up in the lesson and forgot to switch the camera views. This was the first time that’s happened and hopefully the last😊
I do rally like most of the live lessons.
Love the live lessons. Keep them coming! 🙏🏼👍🏼🤙🏼👍🏼
Thanks for reminding me of that drill. I used it a long time ago to correct the same problem and now I have to go back to the fix the problem again. I really enjoyed all of your videos and information. Thanks for sharing.
I have a new term for you guys. You talk about recentering. But you cant be centered and then recenter, you need to DEcenter first, which is the shift away from the target. Which you so well has thaught all of us viewers. Thanks guys, love your work!
Love it… de then re-center 👊🤓
Hi Guys, I love watching your videos they are always fascinating! This video though has prompted me to ask your thoughts on the stack and tilt system of teaching. I have recently had lessons from a stack and tilt instructor and would love to hear your thoughts on what seems to be a system with different fundamentals. Thanks for continuing to take the guessing out of the golf swing.
This is great- I've added so much more power and energy by improving my 'ground work' with what you guys call 'your favorite drill'. David sounds like me with the double miss. I'm hitting some beautiful high soft draws but they're too few and far between. I'm now working to use that power for good and not evil ;-) so it's fun to watch you refine this motion, avoiding the slide and timing the transfer.
Love it. Anything we can help with?
@@AthleticMotionGolf Thank you for asking! Now that I'm more dynamic and things are happening more quickly sometimes it feels out of sync, like the club not catching up. My main miss has gone from pull/pull-hook to the 'block' that starts slight right of target then hangs right or even fades a bit (I'm rt-handed, obv).
I’m curious now that I tried it some. Is the pressure shift really just as subtle/simple as quickly lightening one leg? So to get pressure moving back forward during backswing I can basically just think of almost just lifting my right foot off the ground (not actually going airborne). Not a pushing motion. Just a lightening. I immediately feel the left leg peak doing this of course. It’s quite a different concept than anything I’ve messed with before.
Wow. What a great video. I guarantee I have this same problem as David. I was one who had the wrong concept and have struggled to stop the sway.
We hope this helps fix it for you too 👊😊
Great info but your strength is the visual message you deliver. We missed it this time but this concept is key enough to redo so we can see the lesson and how to do it properly. Thanks for the lesson.
yes thanks for your comment
Can you do a video on the right shoulder movement? I’m thinking a lot of the casting issues for me and maybe others could be linked to that part of the body not doing what is required for a good swing. It may also be easier to fix the casting motion by talking about the right shoulder movement. I know that the hand speed is created from top of swing to shaft parallel in your videos, but I’m interested to see what the right shoulder is doing different between an amateur and a pro. My guess is that the angle created is greater with and am and smaller with a pro. Thanks great lesson!
Have you had a chance to check out our latest Pros vs Ams video on shoulder movement?
Range King Course Queen
hahah
Great stuff guys. I find it fascinating how many of your lessons result in the golfer moving some or all of the body parts involved in the swing less rather than more. Also, while conventional teaching often stops at teaching the ideal swing positions you guys are nearly always able to describe exactly what weight shifts are required to best achieve those positions.
Great catch. We find most golfers think they’re missing something or not doing enough when they’re actually doing too much. It’s hard sometimes to believe you can do less to do better 😊
+2.5 handicap here. I wish I could express in words just how much your guy’s explanation proper hip/pelvis movement has helped me. 6 years ago I was a +6 and I started developing hip thrusts and slids from my body compensating for injuries and I’ve never understood how to fix it till now. Honestly the only reason I’m still on the plus side of scratch is my wedge play abilities that have been making up for my poor iron play for years, but now that I actually understand how to move my hips/pelvis correctly I have realistic hopes of getting back into competitive golf again.
so happy it helped you!!!
This pressure shift is a game changer for me. Thank you! What is this 2 zone pressure plate that you’re using in your setup? I notice you’re not using the swing catalyst in this video/as much?
Great video
Thanks!
This guy is like the real life Bosworth from Halt and Catch Fire. Haha
Awesome work lads, you ever coming to the Uk?
Would be very interesting to see each student's before and after numbers on Trackman? Hard to tell from the camera angle here but I thought he was getting some good contact and speeds with his first swings.
Yeah. I agree. I love these videos, but I always feel like something is always missing. Like we don't get quantifiable before and after data that demonstrates what the changes in the swing are resulting in ball flights. It's like they're only "quantifying" the swing - if that were the case, I'd bet Adam Scott wins it all.
Show me his current swing and what results his swing is producing (dispersion patterns) and after showing me the diagnosing of the swing and the coaching that goes along with it, finish it off by showing me the new swing and what dispersion patterns the new swing is producing.
Hi Shaw. How simple is shift/turn shift/turn, thanks mate. Tried it in living room. Dying to hit a ball
Thanks, this is really interesting.
Question - If the lateral movement is done to produce and take advantage of lateral forces, how much potential distance are you giving up by not doing it? and are there any other problems?
I seem to be able to do a vertical movement, or a lateral movement, but not both, and my strike and distance seems better if i focus on vertical force. IE, adding a little dip in the knees during the backswing and popping up out of it in the downswing, but keeping weight 50/50, or rather, not thinking about lateral movement, but i'm sure some still occurs.
thanks again.
The lateral force created in a good swing is fairly small when compared to the vertical force created. I can't recall a time when we've ever tried to get a player to increase their lateral forces. And yes, trying to do so can create a number of issues. Re-centering is important, in part, because it allows you to setup earlier to generate the vertical forces necessary to produce speed early enough in the downswing. It sounds like your instincts are right on the money!
29:45 is key for this video - so what can someone do on range or in simulator that does not have force plates to insure the spike is when shaft is vertical or L position and hands on trail thigh (the tour pro pre impact position P6). Is there a drill to insure your using the ground and spiking the highest force on lead leg at this point. Then I would guess if done property you use the ground correct and there is a unweighting???
I love seeing these lessons. It feels like a majority of generalized instruction is geared more to the beginner. This is something that is definitely geared to the more accomplished player or player who has an understanding of what is supposed to happen. Just curious but is the feeling of pressure like your trying to drive your weight through the heel of your front foot?
Thanks! Pressure is literally the vertical force applied under each foot. Standing at address, you have (should have) equal amounts under each foot. Removing the pressure from one foot places more under the opposite foot. It can be as simple as that - shifting pressure by lightening one foot. Most times when a player tries to increase it by driving it into their front foot, they actually wind up pushing harder from the trail foot. All that does is increase pressure under the trail foot, the opposite of the original goal.
@@AthleticMotionGolf I completely understand that thought and concept. I'm on the right track as I've gained yardage, club head speed, and ball speed. For me it's like discovering the fountain of youth. 20 years ago with maybe an ok technique I could flat out bomb. Slowly over time that has gone away. The problem is though I'm only 40. I should still be able to hit it almost as far. Improving my technique is doing just that
Love y’all guys work… question and maybe future video idea..how much re-centering goes on in 1/2 and 3/4 swings? Does it happen much quicker or is it not moving off the ball as much from the start?👍🏻
No as much move off the ball 👍🏻🏌️♂️
Shaun/Mike, Do you think if he had better upper body posture that his transfer and stability at impact would be much easier to achieve? I know all of us cannot look like Adam Scott but he is not a bad player to try and emulate as far as posture wise. David made a great point how the pelvis gets over the ankle but no further then rotating open. You guys covered this in another video. Hard to believe Rory is 45* at impact.
This is my exact problem but I get way past my front foot at impact and never really post. Lots of weight on front side with lower body but upper body hangs back. Leads to inconsistent strikes. Would've love for you to do another hip slide lesson video where we can see the gears imagine and body track. Any feedback is welcomed. Thanks 👍
It’s such a common issue for golfers, we will absolutely being doing more of these on hip sliding… and we’ll remember to change the angles so you can see the other screens😊
I would like to see you guys work with someone to correct early extension. These videos are really good. You guys are the best
We have a whole youtube video for that 👍🏻👍🏻
yes and they are awesome but seeing a video like this one would be awesome to see.
Am I right in thinking that a way to look at the forces you are teaching your client that create more clubhead speed when his left leg stops hard before his hip reaches the tube is as follows. If a golfer made a half backswing, so the club was extended the furthest from his body, and could then run sideways toward the target, almost a la Happy Gilmore, but he suddenly ran into a pillar that abruptly stopped the forward movement of his body, the club head, assuming that his arms were still free to move, would whip around his body at a higher rate of speed than it would have had if he was just swinging it with his arms. If the hips, the body, continue to move toward the target, to slide, that reduces or subtracts from the speed imparted to the club head by the arms swinging it. If the swing speed generated by the arms is, say, 80, sliding forward would reduce it to 75. Conversely, if the left hip is stopped, braced, as you show, the club speed would be increased from 80 to 85.
Love these. May I ask what club they hit shots and practice with? 7i
Yep, 7 iron.
“Just taste it a little bit and boom”.
Lots of food references in our lessons 😂
@@AthleticMotionGolf ….lol I completely understood what you meant though.
Should there be any pushing off the ground with the lead foot/leg to form that straight leg to brace against?
Yessir
@@AthleticMotionGolf Any suggestions on the timing of that push?
So nice and clear now and its not the left knee moving forward to recenter that comes later in the downswing i think iam right
You were mentioning clubhead speed at the end and underpowered swings. I was just curious about his clubhead speed because I didn't feel as though it was faster (with full swings) after his weight transfer improved. So if that is the case (is it?), then this was all about improving the quality of his impact and general technique?
Impact is so important: I once was swinging a 3-wood on a simulator about 114mph with 165mph ball speed and carrying it about 255-265yrds, made a small change in my turn and suddenly starting flushing the ball like I almost never have in my life but with the same club and ball speed (within 2mph) the ball starting carrying 290-300 yrds. Everyone talks about speed but the quality of impact is huge.
ball speed is king :) We think its so important that we created a video series for it called Distance RX
@@AthleticMotionGolf Well I guess that I would say that with regards to my little anecdote that launch conditions is king which I think then means that impact is king and the precise potential of that impact to produce said conditions.
In Stack & Tilt one is enjoined to keep weight slightly to the left, maybe 55/45. So at setup are you suggesting 50/50 & then moving55/45 to the right & then recentering 50/50 at the top of the swing. Or should one start with weight slightly on the left and be 50/50 as one takes the club back initially. I'm confused!
Keep in mind, it’s pressure that gets measured as “50/50” or “55/45” etc, not weight. A good starting point is 50/50 at setup, and the 70-75 on the back foot around mid-backswing. (We’ve never capture a good player who keeps it centered or moves it forward during the backswing). From there, it’s moves back to roughly 50/50 at the top.
@@AthleticMotionGolf OK, so its pressure as applied to the foot not weight shift. So on the backswing its 70-75 pressure on the right foot but not a major weight shift to the right. Correct?
Love the live lessons but maybe another camera angle or two so we can see what you’re showing him? Just a thought. Keep em coming!
One of our cameras was down that day :(
Great insight here into hip movement and weight shift. I have two observations: in this and many other videos (I've watched most and am now a member of AMG+). First, the sound needs refinement. Check you mikes. Hard to understand much of the commentary, voices muffled and not sharp, A shame since the technical aspects of everything else is so great. Second, your TV audience would like to be included in what you guys are looking at (computer screen display) since at least half the lesson is spent with you guys off screen talking to student and each other about stuff we can't see. Thanks --
we lost our video feed to the computer in this video. Unfortunately
couldn´t agree more.
Way easier to learn when seeing you guys teach an actual handicapped golfer
Thanks!!!
I tried the “shot put” technique for awhile. Not gonna do that anymore. 😂 I prefer less effort with better results. 😀 Thanks AMG.
haha less is more!
I would like to see older people in live videos. I'm 67.
I'm sure I'm not alone were the pivot shortens the swing at a older age.
I don't like the excuse of no flexibility.
I believe it's in how you move the legs controls the pivot. I haven't figured it out. My shoulders move about 75° on backswing.
I love to see how you get the body to look rotated 90° on backswing . For able body person that struggles with this movement.
Interesting. In the UK the coaching is so far behind on pressure plates and the use of ground forces. Not that the pro's lack the knowledge but they do lack the ways of measuring.
Unfortunately, all of this stuff is fairly expensive. Hopefully that will change in the future.
Guy has a good swing 👍
Yes, and like all good players, he’s working to make it better🤓
@@AthleticMotionGolf what’s his handicap out of interest?
Does AMG use almostGOLF balls - the yellow ones
15:17 This dude said "e6" ...lol.
Since no screen graphics or camera position changes occurred, I learned very little from this video.
It would be helpful if you would take your simple training aids that you use and make videos for different swing problems.
Great idea! 🙏🏻
When the pressure moves to the lead foot, should the pressure feel like it's going into the inside of the foot? I feel like the pressure is moving across the foot and rolling toward the target which I would think indicates a slide as opposed to a brace and post.
Correct. When it moves across the foot like that, it's often an indication you haven't moved it early enough.
First fail ever on this channel. Just kidding guys but it would have been nice if we could have seen something.
lol
Never again! I look forward to this stuff!!
lol
Definitely wish I had a mulligan at the control panel 😂
Well done, that was not an easy lesson.
But how did Hogan and Snead get it so right without all this? Especially Hogan
Certain people picked up a club and did it the right way. The rest of us are not so lucky
Mike, when you say at about the 12.5 minute mark that the reason the re-centering is important at the top is that you feel like you don't go forward after that. My question is that you still go forward from the top, but it is the rotation that carries you forward not trying to shift forward?
Yessir you’re exactly right. It’s the momentum and rotation that get you the rest of the way👍
@@AthleticMotionGolf Thanks so much for the great explanations on when and how to use pressure in your feet
Shift-turn, shift-turn. Easy AND efficient. Thanks guys.
thanks!!
@@AthleticMotionGolf I put it into practice today with great success. A 73 with 5 birdies! A personal best. Your explanations are clear, concise and concrete.
Hey Shawn. How simple is shift/turn shift/turn. Tried it in living room. Can't wait to hit a ball
@@richardpascoe1859 The "key" to swing keys (and this is a great one) is to practice them enough so that you no longer have to think about them when you swing through the ball rather than hitting at it. ;)
Hi there I know you guys, forgot to push the button to see his actual swing, it would of been great to see the issues he had.
Is it necessary to bump a little in back swing then turn.
Yep, it’s quite beneficial 👍
Just discovered i have possibly the biggest chicken wing ive ever seen 😳
Knowing is the first step towards fixing 😊
@@AthleticMotionGolf interesting because i can still hit the clubs plenty far. 7 iron-185 but have a flip a chicken wing. Do you have a video for this?
I didnt like all the talking without showing what he was doing in the swing. You offered suggestions but we couldnt see the issues he was having in high speed.
