One thing to note josh is that most low back pain is caused from lack of core strength. You mentioned that strengthening your low back helps, but most CrossFit athletes already have pretty strong low back muscles because of all the movements that start from the floor. There aren’t many pure core movements done in CrossFit that I have seen. What worked for my back pain was a mix between the stretches you mentioned, as well as all movements related to the Hollow Hold exercise. I do a lot of weighted hollow holds and planks and that seems to do the trick. My pain was so bad that I couldn’t even put socks on at times. Now, it’s pretty much gone. Great tips!
Thanks, Josh. Couch and pigeon stretches have been helping a recent lower back tweak. Wish I had a GHD at home, but hip bridges with a strong hold at the top have been helping really wake the posterior up.
Thanks Josh! I injured my lower back last year doing dead lifts. I’m going to start doing the stretches and exercises that you demonstrated. Thanks again...great video!
Perfect timing, thank you! Would you be able to share any mobility tips for snatches and over head squats? What stretches should I be doing to improve that?
Thanks for all the videos so far Josh, I enjoy the variation and educational content. Your lessons learned as a S.E.A.L. video was great and I really appreciate you doing that one in particular. Would you consider a video on the topic of de-loading (how long, variations/options, your experiences of it if any)?
Awesome information. Do you have any good ankle stretch/strengthening tips, I had ankle replacement and am having tightness even after 10 months? Thanks
Hip flexors are key!! Another tip i got from one of my KIN professors is get a lacrosse ball 🥍 and massage the outter area of your glute! Kinda where your butt cheek ends lol try it, you’ll know you’re in the right spot when it feels like hell!!! Therabands are awesome for activation :)
Josh, do you have any recommendations for rehabing a dislocated shoulder? I pulled some of the ligaments in my biceps while dislocating my left shoulder while attempting a PR full snatch
60 years old. Returning anterior pelvic shift. I run (staying in shape for the next war lol) Always wanna try beach running (save wear on shoes) BUT I’m leary of doing so due to the slope of the beach and my APS that comes and goes.... any suggestions
James M straight up I’ll never try a goatee again. I fucked it up and had to shave everything. I looked like Cory Baxster from Cory in the House/ that’s so raven
Josh, I love you buddy. But unfortunately low back pain is mechanical. Crossfitters are amazing, Studly, strong, beasts yet they still get back pain. Back pain is very simple to treat once you understand how to treat it. Stretching muscles, strengthening muscles is great to keep the body mobile. But it’s not going to stop low back pain. It will always come back. The recurrence rate with low back pain is something like 70 to 80% recurrence within a year. The actual cause of low back pain is very simple. If you sit a lot and you bend a lot you’re going to get low back pain. If you lose in range low back extension you’re going to get low back pain. Doesn’t matter how strong your core is. Josh you are jacked. Yet you still got low back pain. Annie Thorisddottir got low back pain, Sam Briggs got low back pain. Fittest in the world. It’s not about stretching or strengthening muscles. It’s about mechanical joint issues. I’m happy to explain anytime. I treat spines all day every day and have a developed an excellent reputation on Maui for treating the spine. I have never stretched a muscle or strengthened the core nor will I ever. There’s so much literature debunking all of it. Respectfully, I would be happy to discuss any time. Treating and preventing low back pain is stupid easy once we get down to just the facts. www.mckenzieinstituteusa.org/ www.theboxmag.com/.amp/crossfit-training/fixing-and-preventing-pain-in-the-lower-back-9524
