When I went to basic training as 18 year old I remember going to church that first Sunday I was there, keep in mind I had never been to church before anyways I picked up a bible and I opened it and saw in handwriting “god give me the grace not to fall” and I say that in my head every time I’m struggling with something. I’m 24 now and I’m still using it.
Personally, I found Jocko's book's, Extreme Ownership and the Dichotomy of Leadership, along with David Goggins book, Cant Hurt Me, to be very powerful books that completely changed my perspective on life. I stopped making excuse's, excuse's only make you weak. Took extreme ownership in all my successes and failures. Began callusing the mind and pushing past the point of exhaustion or what I thought was previously impossible. began embracing pain, hardship and challenge instead of running away from it and used this to make me a better person. But there is one catch, reading a book once or getting motivated one day doesn't last. You have to work on it everyday. Embrace the daily grind. Can you maintain discipline long after the initial feeling of being motivated goes away? A lot of people struggle with this and it comes down to being able to leave your emotions/feelings out of it. You dont feel like working out today... tell yourself, your feelings dont get a vote. Its not easy staying on the path, but doing difficult things should be difficult!

Good shit, boss! I'm 5'8, 195, 18%. I used to be 5'8, 251, over 30% I saw this kid in a wheelchair. He wasn't in the chair because an injury; his body was clearly misshapen. He was wearing a Laker jersey and cap and his entire wheelchair was adorned with pennants and stickers from sports teams. We were at an intersection, each waiting for the light so that we can enter the crosswalk. I said hi to him and he just kind of nodded and kept looking at me. I don't know him and I don't know what he was thinking but at that moment what I imagined he was thinking (about me) was "What a waste. This guy has a body that works and he doesn't even appreciate it or use it." I was too ashamed to hold eye contact with him. in August of 2000, the day I was shipping to Marine Corps bootcamp my dad gave me nearly the exact speech. "Even though it will be hard, remember thousands of people have done it before you so it's not impossible." Once I attained the title I find myself flipping it and saying, "If I can make it through that, I can make it through (insert whatever tough moment I find myself in)". Something else that sticks with me is an interview you did years back. You were speaking to the exact concept of basically just holding on a little longer. Do 10 reps, then stop thinking about the end, just push yourself to stay on the bar and do another 4, once you hit that goal, shoot for another 2, then another 2... etc. It's a strong mindset. Your actions and words have definitely carried me through some difficult moments be in it crossfit or life.

Too true!! I remember going through OCS having the TAC scream and yell and threaten us with dismissal daily. But they always said: how bad do you want this? Desire to achieve your goals is a great motivator, especially when things are hard and you have a voice screaming at you to give up. You learn a lot about yourself in the moments that suck, and how much you can rely on the people around you that are suffering with you.

I can't imagine why anyone would give this a thumbs down. This is appliance for any walk in life. Thanks. I am sending this to my teenagers. This is great advice for graduates too.
You are right. Everyday when I was in airborne school I quit but I would always tell myself "I'll quit tomorrow ". I did that till graduation. I was sent to Fort Bragg after airborne school and lived the Army airborne life (I was brainwashed and wore a high and tight) I learned a lot but also knew I didnt want live my military life that way so I went EOD. Academically it was the hardest thing I have ever done but like you said others have done it and if I failed I was going back to bragg. Now I have been EOD for 14 years and it's a very rewarding job. Thank you for sharing and inspiring us old guys who forget that age is just a number
I had no military time , but I had some hard struggling moments in my life, that I had to go through alone ; I thought more than one time to quit but never did , I tried to find another way, another clue to "survive" and change the things . Thank you forthis motivating video, I'll remeber your words through the futur hard times ( there are always hard tile, tile to tile, in our lifes ;), no ? ) and I'll fight to adapt and overcome, like some military can say . Kee going, keep smiling :) Thank you for sharing
Really great advice Josh - I often get to that point while exercising where everything inside you is telling you to stop. You have to pull yourself towards yourself and push through.
Dan Kirchner how do you know he's legit ? Only the Navy Seals can confirm it on there database that only they have access to like Don Shipley , stolen valor is epidemic and they go to extremes to convince , I know Jocko and Mike Ritland are Navy Seals not sure about this dude

This is absolutely true, loosing sight of “I’m gonna deal with it, it’s going to pass” and letting a moment beat you down...that split second makes the decision for you that changes your life for the next 2 years. Creating a itch that can’t be properly satisfied, learning from these decisions helps develop you as person. Understanding more what kind of a butterfly effect you have on yourself, now realizing it those decisions make you never...quit...again...no matter the cost
Josh, wise words. First time one of these moto videos really clicked with me from my training to my work, working in the merchant marine shit gets lonely, I’ve lost friends to suicide as well as job related injury. Some days are so tough being alone and shits going down at home and there is nothing you can do... your words help. Thanks Bro for your service and everything you do. Watching your channel has made a huge impact in my life.
Hey Josh, I’m Jp, been into crossfit for a while now and I got to say, you’re a huge inspiration. Currently, I’m in graduate school and stuff is pretty hard right now, science just being science lol, but this video really motivated me and made at a perfect time for me. Anyway, thanks for the motivation and keep up the videos!
Share your struggles , wow that’s a loaded one for me. This just might help someone out there, I carry the diagnosis of, type 1 pump dependent diabetes, peripheral and poly neuropathy, and a seizure disorder. Using the lesser men and don’t let the bastards get you....I WOD when I can and yoga when I can’t, and get back back and start over when needed. I still see gains just from doing what I am able to when I can. A lot like the knee. Thanks Josh for you videos and inspiration.
What worked for me is that i decided that i wanna be the best and most badass version of myself, and if i wanna do something ill die for it. I quit biting nails after 22 years on the day. I started eating healthier and lost almost 30kgs. Quit tobacco after 9 years of using and never looked back. Decided i wanted to walk 300km with 30kgs on my back for charity, did it alone in 6 days. MENTALITY IS A GAMECHANGER, and if you really do believe in yourself i think everything is within your grasp once you realize it.
This really helped and currently, I've been dealing with a lot of crap lately, despite the Crossfit competitions I've joined in this year which has been a good way to destress, I've been searching for myself and finding ways to make money after complying my years as a Respiratory Therapist and man was it a struggle. I could go on and on about this but regardless, the lessons you learned can be applied to me and I'll use this as a way to motivate me from all the struggles I've been going through all my life and never quit. Thanks Josh. 🤙🏻
Loved this video. I think self-talk is huge. I’m far from an athlete but I love CrossFit because it takes me to that place every time where I don’t think there is anyway I can do what’s on the board. But every once in a while I succee or come way closer than I thought I could d and it’s the best feeling ever!! I’m going to try your tips!! Thank you for posting and being a bad ass in general lol.
Just make the decision to do whatever it is you set out to do, and excise all thoughts that counter your goal. Do not think about how you could fail, or how much it’s going to hurt because it will definitely hurt and you might fail, so why give it any thought.
Best advice in my opinion was the timing. I often think about things my dad said to me when I was younger and from time to time I have these rear moments when you realize what he was talking about... By the way huge fan from Germany 😁👍

I’m still currently struggling with pushing myself in the gym. I’m in the middle of the mental prep course and have slacked for a few weeks. Liking the course so far just struggling to get hard back at it. Another great video 👊🏼
The latest thing I’ve had to deal with is that at the beginning of the year I relapsed and lost the use of my left foot. I’ve had to learn to walk first then relearn how to do things at the gym like climbing rope and DUs. I pushed, I’m not going to let this beat me . I just missed qualifying RX adaptive for wodapalooza but I got in scaled. Thanks for posting always and I hope you and your family a merry Christmas
Preping for the "Try Outs" (you know the know) in my countrys military. Did a prep course but failed. Ultimatly I see I failed to prepare, I failed to do my homework when it comes to the right gear....but ultimatly I failed in my head. It just wasn't in the right place at the time. Wanted this all my life.... Thank You for the tidbits of knowledge. Gonna have to do some real soul searching. Because I still want this so bad. Stay safe Josh.
I've been in a WOD and shit starts going sideways and I've thought about DNF and tell myself, later today I won't remember this right now, I'll be ok and going about my day; if I quit, that shit will haunt me and won't go away. So keep pushing, if I pass out I get to sleep and no one will judge me.

Very good. Speaking style relaxed very personable. One of the best I have heard it's like your listening to a buddy in a relaxed setting. Advice is awesome. More.please.
I was in the Army, but it's amazing how many things are the same among the branches. I was at Ft. Benning in basic training reading a letter my mother sent me, and she hated that I joined. "One thing time does, is it passes." My spine immediately stiffened up, and I knew I could smash this. Now at 52, I have only been doing CrossFit for less than two years. I have started incorporating your "small goals become big goals." I get one part done, and I'm on to the next. No matter the endeavor, athletic, military or parenting, no one will ever point a finger at me and say "that dude quit." Never!
Awesome video josh !!!!! Keep them coming mental preparation is one of my weaknesses in life and your experiences are a great motivation to keep pushing forward.
TNX for the update, great episode. I have a Q 4 you Josh. Do you plan to get back on games next year? And how do you see yourself in competing with 100+ athletes? #payingtheman

Josh, I’m a dudette and can apply your advice to everything I do... It sucks that men in this country have so much pressure on them to be competitive, to not allow feelings, etc. Your videos are valuable to everyone, no matter how they identify
Kee going, keep smiling :) Thank you for sharing
i think about "when this is done, In 10 minutes I'm gonna be fine!"
Really great advice Josh - I often get to that point while exercising where everything inside you is telling you to stop. You have to pull yourself towards yourself and push through.
I see that people actually disliked this video. How the hell can anyone dislike this video. This is legit advice from a navy seal. Keep it up Josh!
Dan Kirchner how do you know he's legit ? Only the Navy Seals can confirm it on there database that only they have access to like Don Shipley , stolen valor is epidemic and they go to extremes to convince , I know Jocko and Mike Ritland are Navy Seals not sure about this dude
@@danielbaugher826 how do you know he's not? Josh had been claiming seal status for years. If it was a lie id imagine shit would have hit the fan by now.
Dan Kirchner I'm not saying he isn't I'm just saying many have claimed valor and told many lies up to the likes of being in training with Marcus Lutrell and trying to convince Marcus when he knew they were lying , Josh talks about being on a team with Jocko I'm just saying if he's lying it's very serious , I hope he is the real deal God bless
Dan Kirchner I just discovered on Cleared Hot Podcast with Andy Stumpf on UA-cam who is a legit Navy Seal he says in the intro about Josh Bridges that he is in fact a Navy Seal , my apologies sir thank you Josh GOD BLESS HOO YAH IN JESUS NAME AMEN 🙏🏻✝🇺🇸😇
With the looming of a possible dream come true around the corner and the stress of, have I done enough in my weight loss journey to actually obtain this and actually finally be where I am suppose to be....This def hits at the right moment...Def going to keep this close to heart...Thank you sir
I watched this last year and for whatever reason the algorithm thought I needed to hear this again. I'm glad I did. This is a great one @JoshBridges. TY, my man.
Sincerely THANK YOU for putting your ass on the line!!! We patriots TRULY APPRECIATE IT!
Absolutely in the top tier of CrossFit veterans/legends, someone who, as an ambassador for the sport, would inspire countless people to no end. I don't CrossFit, but I'd pay $20 to attend a presentation/talk. His potential as a 'Life coach' knows no ceiling. As in 'how high can you imagine?'
Awesome! You are a hero to me. I know many don't think of themselves as a hero, but I think of our present Military and every veteran as a hero.
Understanding more what kind of a butterfly effect you have on yourself, now realizing it those decisions make you never...quit...again...no matter the cost
pain is weakness leaving the body.
DEP Marine slogan, so moto brooo
Josh, wise words. First time one of these moto videos really clicked with me from my training to my work, working in the merchant marine shit gets lonely, I’ve lost friends to suicide as well as job related injury. Some days are so tough being alone and shits going down at home and there is nothing you can do... your words help. Thanks Bro for your service and everything you do. Watching your channel has made a huge impact in my life.
Truth!
I made it through 30 years of MIL life using that same advice. I came out the other side a better person because of it.
Man, I needed to hear this today. Not even fitness related. Thanks Josh.
Thank you SO much for your reply to my pm. Meant a lot to me and I’ll do my very best to stay strong 💪🏻
Thank you! I really needed to be reminded that thoes moments where you feel like everything is crashing are gonna pass and it will be better
"bring it in boys, bring it in nice and tight, take a knee" = literally every grunt SNCO ever lol
TRUTH
Facts 😂😂🤣
😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂
Finally, a SEAL who seems like a genuine dude with a good head on his shoulders, not a toxic ego ...appreciate the post man thanks
Jocko willink is not toxic, check him out.
What he said^^
This really helped and currently, I've been dealing with a lot of crap lately, despite the Crossfit competitions I've joined in this year which has been a good way to destress, I've been searching for myself and finding ways to make money after complying my years as a Respiratory Therapist and man was it a struggle.

Great message Josh! Speaking of our own trials.... Willpower is what I draw upon. I like the "moments of weekness" you spoke of. Im training for a Marathon on the c2 rower. I'll remember this during those "moments". Thanks Buddy!
Great video & advice! Having a tuff time right now and this puts things in perspective and helped me refocus.
Keep up the great work!!! 🏋🏽♀️💪🏽👊🏽
As JB said that's gonna pass too
I just wanna say I really appreciate what you were saying it hit home with me thank you
Bro that first thing you said about lesser men than you have done this was awesome
Thank you Josh! You gave me positive words of strength.
Thank You Joshua, Good Seed words. planted. Harvest Coming.
So keep pushing, if I pass out I get to sleep and no one will judge me.
i feel numb all the time and i just keep hustling threw see what tomorrow brings .

Great advice " The only easy day was yesterday keep going get passed it"
I’ve found in all my challenges in life, find something to laugh at. If you’re able to laugh at the work challenge or training challenge, it takes all of its power away.
My mantra through infantry basic and any school afterwards was "just one more day" year long deployments on a gun team....just one more day! Selection courses....just one more day! FTX.....well you get the picture.
This is pure gold
Josh is one of the best this world can offer . You could see why the U.S army took him as a navy seal . Yes postpononing bad decisions in life makes higher chance for making good decisions instead at the wright time - Great tip .
Navy seals are the best with Syeret matkal :)

Very good. Speaking style relaxed very personable. One of the best I have heard it's like your listening to a buddy in a relaxed setting. Advice is awesome. More.please.
Respect brother, so true! The military can do so much for. I take that with me every day. Greetings a dutch veteran
Thank you, Josh. You seem like such a genuine person. Thank you for sharing these lessons with us.
Thank you so much for this, I will be playing this on a loop. Training for my 1st marathon, timing for this is perfect. #preach #paytheman
You are a good man Josh Bridges.
I needed to hear this right now. God bless Josh.
Definitely a humble dude mission brief at 4:18 gave me a moral boost awesome channel.
Thanks for this JB! Really needed this especially as a junior sailor.
Thanks. Appreciate your words.
Thank you J.B YOU THE MAN
#paytheman
Thanks for this Josh and just had a bad setback when it was quit or move forward. I moved forward!
Totally what I needed to hear as I slowly recover my second herniated disc. Thanks Josh!
Awesome piece of advice, it’s great that you are able to share this with us.
Great advice.
Always remember someone is worse off then you.
Thanks JB
Love the videos
Josh, we going to get more
Bridging the Gap vids!? Love them and all you do brother!
Thank you Josh...would've loved to meet that Master Chief....
Thank you for this. I really needed this to finish out my last post workout mile on the treadmill today.
TNX for the update, great episode. I have a Q 4 you Josh.
Do you plan to get back on games next year? And how do you see yourself in competing with 100+ athletes?
#payingtheman
Thank You!!!!!! And God Bless you and your Warrior Brothers.
These words are invaluable, truly.
Thank you for serving!
first time seeing any of your videos, this shits deep and inspirational.
