@@jhodge999 Thanks for the compliment, I can see if I can cut it down a bit but since I’m learning how to do this there is a fair bit of me just crapping on about stuff, however I will see if I can make something out of it. I will definitely be getting some off-road videos but I think I’ll need to plan better and get the camera set up properly when my wife isn’t able to help out, I was just having way too much fun to stop and get the camera out.
Great video, nothing validates an off roader like Australian conditions 😂❤ I wonder if the bonnet protector has added to the windscreen stone chip issue.
I know, but after getting used to the VW (it made sense…) I just find it an annoyance, but really if that’s’ a my big complaint, I’m doing all right! Thanks for taking the time to watch and comment.
Thanks for commenting, I think the shipping would be insane! also there are ADR rules (Australian Design Rules) that can void insurance and warranty if they aren’t ADR compliant. NYTOP do make some cool gear though, I’m thinking of the Molle rear shelf. Thanks for taking the time to comment.
Bull bar, we call them Bullbars, not Roo bars. I have a few cars including a VW. You said you came from a VW, in my 2020 VW, you turn the temperature dial clockwise to increase the temperature and anti-clockwise to decrease the temperature, Exactly how it’s done in the GX. Maybe the outback sun is getting to you? 😂. Also, the R-Line Tiguan is not top of the range in Tiguans, the Tiguan R, is the top of the range. I have just checked the Tiguan’s manual and the temperature (depending what year model you had) either turns on a rotary dial clockwise to increase the temperature or on the later models slides to the right in the haptic slide to increase. 🤔 I’m thinking you were just imagining it was the other way but in fact it was identical to the Lexus control. Make sure you keep your fluids up when driving in the Australian outback, very important 😉😂 The Tiguan is a tinker toy compared to the GX. If you wanted to compare a VW product to the GX, you’d need to step up from a Tiguan to an Touareg. I realise your not doing a comparison but it’s pointless to constantly refer to the smaller class vehicle, of course it’s got better fuel economy and of course it’s a bit noisier, the GX is a whole other level of vehicle. If you get the opportunity take the new Touareg R for a test drive.
Thanks for the reply, When I arrived in Australia in Perth, everyone called them Roo bars and the name just stuck! Also ARB stands for ‘Australian Roo Bars’ so I guess it depends on where in the country you’re from?? I agree with what you say except the Tiguan we had was at the time the top of the range and yes, I have got the dials confused and yes, maybe the outback sun has had an effect! (LOL). Yes, you are right, they are completely different vehicles but it what we had and I could compare them apples to apples, the GX is a better vehicle in every way shape and form and no, I won’t try the Tuareg because I will probably never own another VW (way too many reliability issues). Thanks for watching and I do appreciate you taking the time out to comment.
@ VW has always been renowned for reliability issues, however, you can get lucky and from there you just need a good private VW/Audi tech, elsewise the dealerships can be like a circus. The Lexus however should have no such issue. It’s probably not a good idea to test drive Touareg R as it has MONSTER performance and will leave the GX feeling a bit doughy 😂 but like you I chose the GX over the VW as I wanted reliability. If you are chasing a good bull bar, stay away from Aluminium, as no matter what they say, a decent alloy bar will be as heavy as a steel bar. I’m not sure if Off-road Animal are going to do a GX bar but that would be my pick over ARB/TJM etc (depending on aesthetics, I’ve had Landcruisers all my Life, traveled remote Oz all my life and I wouldn’t touch a bar unless it truely offers decent straight as a decent Roo can annihilate all but the best and leave you stranded. I hope you are right in that someone can produce an aftermarket fuel tank ie: The Long Ranger or Brown Davis but without moving the spare as I don’t want to carry the spear on a rear bar. @@GR8Tmate I did like the performance of the Tiguan but we had so many issues with it and the seats were not comfortable! It’s not the sort of thing I’d even dream of taking where you’ve been travelling. Previously I’ve had Landcruiser s to travel in or work around my property from but I’m getting old and I won’t be travelling to the real remote places anymore. I went to get a GX because I wanted something I could go off-road with but still feel like a human but also use it to get the daily things done. I had the opportunity to snap up a GX Overtrail but after chatting with my local LEXUS guy I decided to pull back and wait until next year. I’ve got surgery coming up, so I’m not in a rush and I will probably land a GX in my shed in about 12 months time, which will work nicely for me. The name of the bull bar company is, “Off-road Animal” & they make a good bars but I’m yet to see if they are going to produce one for the GX. I’ve had quite a few ARB bars and I’m less impressed with them now than I use to be but there’s a heap of different bar makers in the market now and probably one of the most important things for a GX bar will be WEIGHT. There’s companies out there that will make heavy bars and you’ve got to remember any accessories you put in the GX will deduct from the overall Payload that you can carry. Really the last thing you want to do is stick something overly heavy in the front, it will play havoc with everything from fuel economy to handling and not course you don’t want it to look like a packet of pop tickets, not on such a nice looking bit of kit. For me, I might consider a loop-less bar, just to save weight. One of them Would be fine around my area, we mainly get wallabies whereas remote QLD/NSW/NT/WA/SA etc you will probably want a full bar because a proper sized Kangaroo will come over the top of a loopless bar. Anyway, take your time with the bar, really examine construction, WEIGHT & of course you will want to order one that can be colour coded, it would look terrible hacking a Matt black baron such a lovely looking Lexus. I haven’t been under a GX yet but I would imagine ‘The Long Ranger’ & ‘Brown Davis’ will both come up with something for more fuel under the GX. 120 lts would be nice - 130-140 would be great, you don’t have to fill it up if your running around the burbs but it would be nice to have 1000km of range. Even though the GX is a bit thirsty, at least there’s no Ad-Blue and DPF issues and all the dramas that the LC300 people are getting, at the end of the day an extra $3 per 100km to avoid all those other modern diesel problems seems like a fair exchange to me. Regarding the windscreen and the chipping/cracks because they are so upright. It might be worth looking at PPF for the windscreen. I tested a car with it fitted and optically I thought it was fine to look through if you looked straight ahead but when I looked sideways through the windscreen it did something odd to the clarity of the glass and I was worried it might give me a headache. But if you can look at that, it might be worth getting the EXPEL Windscreen PPF as it will definitely reduce the chances of a broken windscreen. Could cost more that a couple of hundred $$$! & could potentially save you replacing the windscreen. I will be interested to watch your channel and see what you think about your GX after it gets a few more Kms on it. Fuel economy with probably improve and you’ll get a better feel for it.
