I am 77 and The Beach Boys were popular when I was in high school. They were part of the Southern California “surf” culture. Their songs are about surfing, cars, and girls.
The Beach Boys are my favorite band! I am 46 and didn't really discover them until my teens in the 90s. They are one of the most diverse bands in terms of music styles I have ever heard! They have done roch n roll, doo wop, jazz, surf rock, psychadelic, classic rock, r&b, disco, rap, lounge crooner, new wave, spoken poetry and symphonic pop over the years!
They went from simple surfing songs to direct competitors to The Beatles. Brian was an absolute genius composer. He mostly stayed at home writing masterpieces while the rest of the band went on tour. Good Vibrations, or Heroes and Villains next, please.
They had the best harmonies ever. This was a live video, and remember this was filmed and recorded in the early 1960s, with far less sophisticated audio quality. Thes guys were simply brilliant. Check out more of their music catalogue, and you'll see what I mean.
As someone who grew up on the west coast and was a teenager in the 60s, “I Get Around” is a real reflection of the culture. The man I more than 20 years ter could have been the guy in this song.
At 71 I still feel young at heart ❤️ and wish to relive some of my youth. I always loved music, and spent a lot of time listening to all the best that life has offered. Keep on rocking!!!😃
My first album at 10 yrs.old (in 1963) from Santa was The Beach Boys ‘Little Deuce Coupe’ & have been a fan ever since. (Just turned 71 this month of April 2024). I was absolutely HOOKED! •Little Deuce Coupe •409 •Catch A Wave •Shut Down Oh! So many good ones!!! The ‘Pet Sounds’ album is considered the ‘Sargent Peppers’ Lonely Hearts Club Band’ album of all time. (The Beatles heart ‘Pet Sounds’ & had to try & beat it & out came ‘Sargent Pepoers…’) The Beatles was my second greatest band - having come to NYC to be on Ed Sullivan show in February 1964 - just 1.5 months after my Beach Boys introduction! What a time musically to be alive!! The two best of all time!
I grew up with their music, and have all their greatest songs I'm my music library. DARLIN', IN MY ROOM, GOD ONLY KNOWS, are some of my favorites, and I am 72. Lol!😂
Wish I could have caught the live stream. You know it's a great band when they basically create a new genre of music and be an influence on the Beatles. When my best friend's son turned 5 years old or so he already loved the Beach Boys and could sing along with practically every one of their songs.

Other BB songs you should check out are Surfin USA, Fun Fun Fun, Good Vibrations, and California Girls. Or their 80s comeback song Kokomo from the Cocktail soundtrack.
Kokomo is the Mike love Beach boys, not the Brian Wilson Beach boys. And I do love that song, but it's so not anything Brian Wilson would have written.
I'm 70. I grew up listening to the Beach Boys, among others, of course. I want to hear you sing Mozart's aria, "Queen of the Night." Mmmmm. I also grew up (because of my parents) playing the violin, and listening to the classics. My father got his PHD from Columbia on Music Composition in 1965. He taught me how to build harps, which is my profession now (still).
Beach Boys have been a favorite since I saw them on this very show. The day this was on the Sullivan show, 27 September 1964, was my 10th birthday. It was the best end to the day. At the time we didn't know what a musical genius Brian was when he conceived the Pet Sounds album.
Hi Maggie Renee, prior to the Beatles leading the " British Invasion ". The Beach Boys were the most popular and prolific songwriters in the u.S.A. They did surf music, and mechanical music.
remember this is a live version--including playing instruments and singing simultaneously. If you really want to get into the song, listen to the refined and properly mixed studio version!! :-)
Miss your live till this morning. I believe Mike Love and Beach Boy are stiil on tour. I saw them on tour in 74 or 75 with Chicago in Foxboro Ma. Enjoy your reactions , and I'm 76.
The beach boys are my comfort music. My parents liked them a lot so i grew up listening to them and i love them. Brian Wilson is a genius. Favorite songs are good vibrations, god only knows, California girls, and sloop John b. 43 here
First coFavorite song - the entire Pet Soundsncert I went to the Beach Boys. Sophmore in High School and lied to my parents and took a city bus to the concert 1964
Maggie, you need to check out Kokomo from 1988. It's from a Tom Cruise movie. The Beach Boys are older but it's a great vacation song and there's a surprise drummer on the bongos you may recognize. Use the movie video of the song.
The two biggest acts of the 60's were the Beach Boys and The Beatles. For a very long time no=one could come close. The closest we had to either in Australia were The Easybeats.
This comment is not Beach Boys related as my other comment was. I would suggest listening to Todd Rundgren's 1985 Acapella album., especially the tracks "Hodja" and my favorite song "Something to Fall Back On" "Something" is incredible because while you may think you are hearing instruments being played, you are not. The "drums", "bass" etc are all Todd's voice. The entire album is just Todd's voice. What is even more incredible is he did this in 85.
Saw them live at an outdoor music festival in Milwaukee about 1976 or 77. I don't believe Brian Wilson was with them at the time. They played all the songs and I was at the matinee show which meant they still had the main evening show to do that day.
Not a bad comparison to Bobby Hatfield. Brian Wilson, an absolute genius, was not only a super talented voice like Hatfield, he also was a genius composer. He was deaf in one ear, but could imagine magical compositions. He inspired John Lennon to write songs of the best Beatles works to "keep up" with Wilson's brilliant sound.
The Beach Boys are great, no matter what they sing. I don’t think I could pick just 1 favorite! I would really like to see you react to Edgar & Johnny Winters live performance of Tobacco Road. It’s jazzy, bluesy & absolutely crazy!
There are 100 or more great Beach Boys songs (The Little Girl I Once Knew, Warmth of the Sun, Your Summer Dream, Kiss Me Baby are some of the amazing vocal performances by them)
If you think “Sea Shanty Melody” by Home Free is great, you absolutely need to check out “Skull and Bones” by Home Free. Written by Chance. Double Bass at beginning. Can’t get it out of your head. Absolutely great!
Sadly, this was not my music. This was the music of my oldest sister. My brother listened to The Doors. My other sister was into Paul Revere and the Raiders. I was a big Monkees fan, since it was essentially a made-for-tv band. I got to see the Beach Boys live at the Aloha stadium in Hawaii in 1979. They were the intro band for Heart. I remember two things about their performance. They seemed very unprofessional as they had a lot of gear problems throughout the concert and the crowd had to fill in the high harmonies of all the songs. Oh yeah, and we had just come off a 2+ month submarine patrol and because it was an outdoors concert in Hawaii, our pasty white skin was sun burned bright red by the end of it all.
Maggie Renee Beach Boys pus some created new genre in Rock, Surf Music. Few original of Beach Boys are still living today, Brian Wilson (falsetto) and his cousin, Mike Love (singing).

As far as dating the group they are a universal sound , their sound is relevant to those that like the genre no matter how old the music.
But the 60s is when they were really prevalent.
@@super_siri true but the percentages in their genre for that amount of time still puts them at the top for their music even as it ages

You had to grow up in the 60’s and early 70’s to really appreciate the music . Amazing how it lives on still and will forever.

The Beach Boys were a 60's top 40 band. They were and still are very popular and even had a hit single in 1988 with the song "Kokomo".
This is my favorite song by them with Good Vibrations and She's Not the Little Girl I Once Knew, rounding out my top three.
The beach boys were considered the American Beatles and yes they still record and tour.
I just bought tickets to see them in Oklahoma in November, and i can't freaking wait
they started out very young as barber shop quartet gave them a great harmonic sound
We were on the horns of a dilemma in those days. Torn between "beach music" and Jimi Hendrix. I loved them both and saw them both in concert.
Saw them in concert on March 1st, 2023. They are still awesome and the original members are in there 70's.
The first concert I ever went to was the beach Boys when I was only 3 or years old, but I still remember it very well.
Love the Beach Boys . All their songs are awesome
The Beach Boys were big for decades. Their last #1 hit was 1988’s “Kokomo” from the Tom Cruise movie “Cocktail”
Brian Wilson is a genius
The Bass Player/Falsetto is one of the greatest geniuses in Rock History.
Wish I could have caught the live stream. You know it's a great band when they basically create a new genre of music and be an influence on the Beatles. When my best friend's son turned 5 years old or so he already loved the Beach Boys and could sing along with practically every one of their songs.

Home Free did a Beach Boys Medley way back in the day before they got Tim and Austin. They did a great job with it, all a capella of course. 😃👍🏼
My favourite band love everything they did and my favourite song is I can Hear Music
Brian Wilson, the falsetto, just turned 81.
"I Get Around" is a musical round
I am 74 for I saw it on Ed's show on a '191 25" color TV.
Note no ties. They were one of the 1st to get rid of that useless item of cover up.
Love that context! ❤
74 ... I probably saw this when it was on TV live ... Dick Dale is the originator of the Surf Sound. He performed in the Frank & Annette Beach Movies.
The best comparison I've ever heard regarding the Beach Boys is Barbershop. Obviously mixed with rock but the harmonized lyrics are unmistakable.
Yes ,you definitely need more beach boy Songs.
Beach Boys were definitely part of my childhood . So much so I have a couple of albums on compact disc.
"The girls we meet"--Mike Love makes with the hand gestures. We get it, Mike lol
This was also a time when 2 minute songs was the target… for AM play so the stations could do more commercials

I remember seeing this show as a kid. Beach Boys were very popular growing up.
Love their harmonies, would like to hear more reactions to their songs. I think harmony is the most overlooked aspect of music
These are the tunes your Grandpa used to feel up Grandma to at the drive in... 🤣
Also, this was NOT lip synced, this was LIVE
First coFavorite song - the entire Pet Soundsncert I went to the Beach Boys. Sophmore in High School and lied to my parents and took a city bus to the concert 1964
I absolutely LOVE their cover of Come Go With Me! Sooo catchy! I wonder if Carnie listens or has listened to her dad, uncles and great cousin.

I think at least one of those rods was on the cover of "Shut Down Vol. 2".
The Beach Boys practically invented a genre, "surf music" along with instrumentalists like Dick Dale.
Help Me Rhonda, California Girls, In My Room (a rare slow ballad)
67. In My Room has a lovely chords.
In my Room, Warmth of the sun, surfing, good Xibretions, Surfer girl......
The Beach Boys are great, no matter what they sing. I don’t think I could pick just 1 favorite! I would really like to see you react to Edgar & Johnny Winters live performance of Tobacco Road. It’s jazzy, bluesy & absolutely crazy!
In my room. Is one of their best.
You say type 1 if I've seen the video, I remember seeing it on TV when I was small 😂
My favorite beach boys song is little deuce coup
There are 100 or more great Beach Boys songs (The Little Girl I Once Knew, Warmth of the Sun, Your Summer Dream, Kiss Me Baby are some of the amazing vocal performances by them)
71, 1st concert was Beach Boys here in sacramento.. 7.50.a ticket....
Their first #1.
Old enough to remember history.
Favorite Beach Boys Song - God Only Knows.
Saw the Beach Boys live at the Mann Center in Philly. Been listening to them since I was a baby ( I'm now 32 going on 33.)
Listen to “Pet Sounds” - Brian Wilson is a giant of American popular music. A genius who composed, arranged and produced all their songs.
Beach Boys! The first band that I saw live and my first date.
Sloop John B....the vocals and arrangements are perfection...............right up there with Queen's "Somebody to Love".
Agreed
I love that song. It's my favorite BB song.
Wrong words! Always bothered me.😊
They still play! 😂😂😂😂
The Beach Boys are just so much fun !
I saw them in concert back in 1986 awesome show!
One of my favorite Beach Boys songs is Kokomo.
Surf, Cars and Babes.
Remarkable music given that Brian Wilson had hearing loss in one ear
Favorite Beach Boys song: In my Room
I love the cover of Come And Go With Me. It's catchy!
I have seen beach boys live 3 times
I’ve seen them live 3 times
Thank You Luna!
FUN, FUN, FUN!!!
Would they do well today? They're still touring today! I recently saw them in concert.
As a trained singer you should listen to "Good Vibrations"
My Favorites are God Only Knows, In My Room, Girls on the Beach, Sloop John B, Help me Rhonda, Kokomo, Barbara Ann. Im 58.
If you think “Sea Shanty Melody” by Home Free is great, you absolutely need to check out “Skull and Bones” by Home Free. Written by Chance. Double Bass at beginning. Can’t get it out of your head. Absolutely great!

It reminds you of One Direction or the Jonas Brothers? Lol. The Beach Boys aren't only in their own league... they created a league.
Don’t Worry Baby Is A Good Song To Listen To By The Beach Boys! It’s A Fantastic Song !
Great reaction, didn't know we could see ed Sullivan on UA-cam. Look forward to future beach boys reactions.

Al Jardine and Bruce Bruce Johnston of the Beach Boys also still around and still performing.
Now that you've gotten into this, you need to check out Jan & Dean too.
Listen to God Only Knows from Pet Sounds. That's when they started writing mature music
