    It's always fun to meet and get to know a new harp! Have you been waiting to find out what's in the box? My Marini 28-string Bass lap harp arrived on the first day of summer. Thanks for stopping by to unbox it with me! I love how light and portable it is, dreamy! I'm looking forward to getting a stand, I'll have to wait a few more weeks. Let me know if you have any questions.

    Beautiful. Okay I am too impatient to wait until the day after receiving it to open it up. Oh my gosh there’s no way o could wait! Ha. 😄 I actually looked at these before buying my fullsicle and couldn’t find much at all on the instrument. Except that it looked so comfortable. But I ended up getting a second with a blemish ( a little dark spot on the grain) so they knocked quite a large chunk off the price. I just happened to buy at the perfect time. And with a pick up it sounds good. But this was one I was very interested in and I liked that it had extra bass strings. But I knew absolutely nothing about harps when I bought. I had always wanted a small, portable harp that went down to either a low F or G. I love that I can play most of my normal repertoire on the Marini. I think you just have to really figure out what are the most important features that you need in a small harp. This one ticked off all the boxes that I need for right now.

      My zeroth made harp without levers is in this tuning. Also I like to do kalimbas in this.
      But still with F tuning it would not be able to use levers to tune to f minor - do you use this tuning? For now it is my most liked minor scale. But when tuning harp to Eb you can have just f pentatonic when using levers. So maybe I will start to tune to fminor instead Ebmajor - I still will be able to lever up to C, F, G and others...

    I like how the back of the harp conforms to your body. That must make it easier to balance either on your lap or with the strap. It is beautiful. Why do they call it bass? Is that because it goes to F 2 below middle C and does it take out the F and G at the top? I have the Christina 26 which ends at the C below middle C and goes to the G 3 above middle C.

    • @annecrosbygaudetmusic

      Yes, I had a Christina for a number of years and it was great as a therapy harp! This one is called a bass lap harp because it has the extra bass strings (down to low F). I'm waiting to get the stand for it and then I'll do a video on different ways to hold it.

    Would you recommend this as a first "real" harp? I have a 22 string very cheap harp that I have been practicing on, but it is almost at it's breaking point. I have been saving to buy a nicer harp and I am torn between saving for longer to get a larger harp with a bigger range or buying this one now. It will most likely take me another 1-2 years to save up for the larger harp I want. I want to buy both eventually, it's just which one to buy first☺

    Congratulations! I have considered Marini harps several times through the years, as I live very close to them. I got a great deal on a second hand Morgan 34 string harp 6 years ago. How does the Marini compare with a fullsicle?

    • @annecrosbygaudetmusic
      @annecrosbygaudetmusic  3 роки тому +1

      Thanks Annette! The Marini has wider string spacing, firmer string tension and a bigger sound than the Fullsicle. The fullsicle would be smaller and lighter if that's an important factor.

    Just from that 'pulling' you did on the section on String Spacing at the beginning of the video, it's pretty clear that the stings are of the 'rubber band' variety' - which, for a pedal harp player, is the most annoying element in ANY small/lap harp. Thoughts?
