"The Christian faith is about grace and forgiveness." But, forgiveness only comes with confession of sin, and contrition. When has Donald Trump ever confessed to his sins?

I live in Africa where most western evangelicals come to do most of their work, crusades, and send their ministers to preach the gospel.. Some do this to expand their empires, others genuinely want to do God's work... now when it comes to their Politics and political views it's a new game... I recall during Obama Administration all white evangelicals I spoke to were ashamed to be led by a black man and most of them would express it in private conversations, diner tables and so forth... Now am not saying that I have met all evangelicals that have come to Africa but most of those I have met were now worried that a woman was representing the Democratic Party. Most of them would say to me and I quote: " First a black guy now a woman...!!? America isn't ready for that..." Others would openly say that at this point they would vote for the devil himself if he ran against Hillary. Personally I think this is just about racism, feminism, and in some cases hypocrisy for these white evangelical Trump supporters.
They have no idea what either of these two concepts mean. Their religion is guns, consumption, murder, appearance but no substance, virtue-signalling about abortion, etc. whilst trampling on the poor, literally celebrating the murder and destruction and plight of the lives of children in other countries. They virtue signal morality, but completely looking the other way when figures like Trump, who embody sin and corruption.

When I searched for clarity on why being Evangelical was considered supporting Trump (as a recently turned Evangelical Christian, I don't want to invest myself in a faith whose political beliefs I completely disagree with), I was disappointed to see what people like the guy on the TV was saying. When someone does a crime to you, you forgive but don't forget what he has done. Would you forget that a rapist has raped and leave him alone with your child? You may forgive him but forgiveness is for yourself and God, not absolving the other person of having done the crime. If that were so, we wouldn't have a justice system and God at all. You can't just forgive when it's convenient to you. There's nothing for you to forgive when some of the inexcusable things Trump have done did not happen to you, like his racial & sexist comments and actions. Let those who were actually affected by that respond to that. The Jesus I came to know when I got into this faith is not the Jesus I'm seeing represented here. I don't know what evangelicism this is but I'm firm in that this is not what I believe in and that Trump would never have been my first choice in an electoral battle.
I think everyone can respect what you just said--recognizing, if nothing else, that Trump is a big phony (on religion, as well as a lot of other things)--regardless of any of our feelings regarding religion or holding religious beliefs (if any). Well done.
Thank you, Jim Wallis for enlightening this audience what the Bible really say about how we should treat others, including the foreigners among us - with compassion and caring for their plight and basic needs. If this dude thinks god is looking at people and their national culpability you have to assume god recognizes your patriotism as anything real lol. It takes the narrowest mind possible.
I am a Christian, but the way I've seen the church behave in this country during the last 4 years has been very questionable, disappointing and down right shameful. This year, I realized that the church I loved so much and where I faithfully participated and volunteered and served for the past 12 years has completed gone mad over heels with the current president. When I confronted my pastors about preaching politics from the pulpit not taking in consideration the fact that "we" were a multicultural church with a white pastor, he didn't even try to understand, rather he went on the defensive assuming we (my husband and I) were accusing him of being a racist. And when asked about why he believes this president is sent from God to do "some" things for Him in this country, he answered with, "oh, I know he's a jerk and I don't agree with a lot of his rhetoric but I believe God chose him to be president for this times" (this was back in Feb 2020--way before George Floyd). I was brokenhearted and disappointed that my pastor was becoming a political speaker for the potus. Needless to say, not only we confronted him, but other minorities who also felt the same way as we did, also had a talk with him, and also left the church. To this day, because of all I've seen taking place in this country in 2020 (covid-19, racial and social unrest, division within the church, family, long time relationships and so much disrespect and non stop lies from the current administration--just to name a few), I haven't set foot in my church since June. I pray daily in my house for the current president to have a change of heart and that God would really reveal Himself to him and I worship in my house, but I'm too disappointed to go back and try to look them in the eye. Church is home now and I don't know for how long. I've seen the church go through a transformation and it's not a good one. They have gotten caught and lost between popularity, the lights, camera and smoke, and all you really can do is choose your dance floor: the church nightclub or the world's nightclub---cleaner or smokier? The church needs repentance and to realize where they've fallen from and remember what is the true Gospel of Christ, the Good News we were entrusted to deliver to the poor and the hungry. Not to be politicians. Jesus is not coming back for a democratic or republican church or party. Stop acting with hypocrisy and like the Pharisees. You've made a den of thieves out of the house of God.
We do live in a time whereas the foundation of things spiritually and naturally are being challenged. Leaders can only preach and declare from their deep rooted foundation. The day we live in is revealing what’s really in people’s hearts. Thing it not strange. The foundation of Gods standeth sure. Will we follow the standards of the Living Christ or a new personality. The foundation of Christ is revealed in John 3:16, Acts 2:38, Hebrews 6:1-2. The Name we carry or defend is to be Christ not a cultural norm. He alone has the words of eternal life and not a politician. We look for an eternal kingdom of righteousness!!

Jenn Jenn Unfortunately utopian socialism is a disappointment also, and Bernie has not deviated from this either. There are right wing demagogues, and no matter how humanly appealing, there are left wing ones too. Both are appealing to the aggrieved among us. I would never say any mere mortal man or woman is perfect, but I'm an old fashioned FDR Democrat. We must appeal to the highest and the virtues in us to see our way forward. It is no short of incredible that Trump won( with the help of Russia influencing 80,000 voters in 3 States) spouting phrases from 1940!- "America first" etc.first espoused by the neo fascist Lindbergh, called out, properly so, by FDR.

I feel that the evangelist of Mike pence and 45 is a front.and embarrassing for the true people of faith .they need to go back to reading the 10 commandment
Jesus taught morality. He said be perfect just as your father is perfect. He never taught scapegoating (I lay down my life for you). He never paid your price for sin. He was murdered. Christianity is all about Paul's teachings. Thank-you.
@Bret 1959 Thank-you for reading my comment. I am perfectly aware of what the Bible says. As for Paul. He states he was chosen. Sounds narcissistic to me. His doctrine contradicts Jesus and his disciples. I believe Jesus' brothers and his disciples knew him better than Paul. Jesus would of taught sacrifice while he was alive if that was God's desire. He did not teach it. Christianity, of which I was raised, to me is a religion much like the Pharisees practiced. Thank-you
@Bret 1959 Thank-you for your reply. Again I ask, why did Jesus not participate in temple animal sacrifice? Also, the Israelites wrote a book saying they are the chosen people. My opinion of God is massively higher than that. He doesn"t choose favorites. That is not nice. God is perfect in all ways. Also, just throwing something out there for you. I think the covenant talk is nonsense. Who cares what God said to the Israelites. God is alive. I care what He says to me. He talks to you. He is beautiful. If you really want to know God do what I did and say Hello. He will answer. You and God will have your own story and your own covenant. I wish you well and God Bless.
@Bret 1959 Thank-you for your comment. My question is why didn't Jesus verbally teach blood is needed for the forgiveness of sins? The tribe of Judah were sinners. His disciples were sinners. Howcome only the Pharisees and Sadduccees were blood obsessed? Jesus was not temple obsessed either. He never lived in Jerusalem. He taught anywhere, inside and out. He never gave money to the Temple. He never told his disciples to give money to the temple. You have a lot of Biblical knowledge. You have a very close relationship with that book and with Christianity. How is your relationship with God? God is not a Christian. Jesus was not a Christian. Paul was a Pharisee. God is not blood thirsty. Jesus nwver laid down his life for anyone. That beautiful man was murdered alongside many others during those days. The Roman Empire was evil. I am no longer a Christian. Something happened in my lufe and I cried out to my Father. He responded because He is alive. No blood. No covenant. No Bible. Just a child and her Father. Thank-you
@Bret 1959 Thank-you. Yes, I have the Holy Spirit. Yes, Jesus does open the door. He is not the only way. Many religions love and respect Jesus. Jesus tells us about God. The poor in spirit shall experience God. I too had nightmares and woke up screaming. I speak in tongues. I do not believe God makes disposable people. Non Christians are not disposable. I don't believe in demons. Our ego is all anyone needs to go down the wrong path. I am glad you know God. When I began to look around I found most religions know Him. What we call the Holy Spirit the Hindu religion calls Kundalini. We are all one, no matter what name we call something. Thank-you.
That's just like these murdering lying police officers killing black people in Cold Blood and standing on the pulpit on Sunday nope they are not the members of the Lord's body they may be a religious group but they most certainly are not true Christians
Interesting argument from a few years ago. As a Canadian, I’m always amazed how Americans are blinded by the Republicans lower taxes, less government involvement, and so called “Christian” values. In Canada the average family net worth is $678,800 while the median family net worth is $259,700. The difference is because of the number of ultra rich which skew the average higher. In the US, the average family net worth is $692,100 while the median family net worth is $97, 300. The US has more money, but way, way less people ever see that. If you are black in the US, your median family net worth is about $13,000. Your country could eliminate poverty...but chooses over and over to feed the rich.
This is why I am no longer part of the "religious right." I am part of the progressive strand of Christianity now. This does not mean I have thrown out orthodox views of abortion, sexuality, and marriage which I never will. This means that the Gospel is so much broader than those hot button issues. The religious right is arrogant, nasty, and unChristlike.
But why abortion? Didn't your god kill a bunch of egyptian babies in the bible? didnt he kill some mans children just to test his loyalty? Didnt he create miscarriage, stillborns and death at chilbirth? When an unwanted, negleted child is born, is god going to feed and clothe him and provide for him? Why is it ok for god to kill? Oh right, because he is an powerful god who should not be questioned, not some scared young girl who can cant provide for her child. You can have your views on abortion, sexuality and marriage, believe what you want, but don't shove your beliefs down other people's throats. And don't force people to live by your rules.
There's no scriptural basis for why they support him, its purely an emotional attachment to him. Once i saw evangelicals giving him their bibles to sign, it was apparent where their hearts were (are) They dont read much you will find, which should be equally disturbing "Command those who are rich in this present world not to be arrogant nor to put their hope in wealth, which is so uncertain, but to put their hope in God, who richly provides us with everything for our enjoyment. Command them to do good, to be rich in good deeds, and to be generous and willing to share. In this way they will lay up treasure for themselves as a firm foundation for the coming age, so that they might take hold of life that is truly life." -1 Timothy 6:17-19
Adam Frost Well stated. The three reigning heresies of our day: materialism(worship of things), moneyism(worship of $), and worship of pleasure in general, and the "peak experience", in particular.
Evangelicals have been grooming the public for decades and many have fallen for their lies. However, "Nothing in all creation is hidden from God's sight; everything is uncovered and exposed before the eyes of Him to whom we must give account." Hebrews 4:13

Well done.
Not enough time. This needs at least 15 or 20 mins.
And three years later, wow talk about corruption!!!!
But not continuing in sin.I heard him say,”why do I have to repent”. He lies all the time, and who is the father of lies? Answer Satan.
At times Christians become blind and forget who Christ is.... Love, Truth and Peace..
Seriously! he asked "what do you mean unorthodox?" Hypocrite is the first word that comes to mind
No one who is a racist is a real Christian. Such a person is always rejected by God.
Thank you, Jim Wallis for enlightening this audience what the Bible really say about how we should treat others, including the foreigners among us - with compassion and caring for their plight and basic needs. The foreigners (assylum seekers at the southern border) should not be collateral damage to a set of policies or a politician that you favor, Eric Metaxas.
well idiot, there is too many discrimination against white in this country already!
but really it's good to hear, what i see is white people has become more fanatic and protective about their culture!
Catholics schools popularity is at all time high
It’s like praying to the Devil to do God’s work
Jim was brilliant here.
The hypocrisy of the Right -Wing party is literally life draining. 🙏🏾🙏🏾🙏🏾
Such hypocritical nonsense coming from the evangelical man.
@Ed Lane, he’s two faced.
Eric Metaxas: “No thanks, I’d rather not respond to your direct questions, so I’ll just go on a rant that is listed on my talking points.”
dude with pink highlights shouldnt discuss religion PERIOD!!
Everyone should be held accountable no matter whom they are!!!
This time limit thing sucks we need more of these conversations so people like this Trump Evangelical can expose their true colors and people can see how they really feel and how phone and hypocritical they are.
Excellent point.
"Do not put your trust in nobles, Nor in the son of earthling man, to whom no salvation belongs." Psalms 146: 3
I love how anytime you bring up trumps faults, these people always scream “but waddubout Hillary” as if she is it all relevant in the discussion. Deflection at its finest.
What of the children killed in immigration detention separated from their parents
Hilly the bully and the bully trumpet have spoken. They are judged by how much harm they are doing and will do to the weakest in our midst and in our world. The bully trumpet so far is taking this ship directly into the rocks of destruction, murder, sickness, and passive aggressive death of the vulnerable.
I wonder where was all this forgiveness, grace, mercy and praying to God for his success when President Obama was in office?
If this dude thinks god is looking at people and their national culpability you have to assume god recognizes your patriotism as anything real lol. It takes the narrowest mind possible.
They voted their pockets not their morals! 🙄
That guy on the screen is such a narcissist!
Jesus was a progressive. ;-)
*Jim Wallis is absolutely correct!!*
Evangelicals are cult of death and muder sick demon possessed lunatics, a good evangelical is a dead one
Caucasoid nation?
Tsnore the US is a jew nation
Nazis are all damned by God.
Because of a double standard it's ok to ignore it? What a good argument. Nonsense. Sick of this he said he said.
*They have tiny brains ...*

It is about power not morality.
Vote him OUT
Excellent,as always. Thank you,Medhi.
Again, these people are not Christians.
I'm a Christian and I didn't vote for Trump.
They deserve each other.
Neither have read the history of the founding fathers insistence on keeping church and state separate.
True that
Scripture will save us
Don't they get it
God Bless
Keep up the great work Eric ✝️
This guy is stating that as long as the focus is on forgiveness, then immorality is okay...WOW, just WOW
Thx Al Jazeera for mansplaining Christian internal motives.
Watch the UA-cam video "Reverend reveals what evangelicals privately say about Trump". Very telling interview!
This MAN IS ABOUT MONEY MAN AND CONTROL 💪💪💪💯.
Heil Trump... How many has he bombed, deported. Blood on his hands . Will pass down .. like the Sanhedrin with Jesus blood. But one baffling idea.. all sins redeemed by the born again.. even mine.. maybe they used this , and, will continue to use it , and labelled others terrorists.
Then USA o
UK NATO plus other so called Christian country , build bombs sell , steal oil, kill at Will. Help us here , someone!!? God !? Is it the same God I serve .
As far as I know Bernie Sanders has been consistent for 40 years.
@@bobbywimsy6741 Thank you for your comment. I agree with what you said mostly.
They have lost there way.
This did not age well for Trumpsters, stand back and stand by Proud Boys.
Its about all those things. God knows what he is doing. What the enemy meant for evil My Lord will turn it round for good. I trust the Lord in whatever He lets happen.
I feel that the evangelist of Mike pence and 45 is a front.and embarrassing for the true people of faith .they need to go back to reading the 10 commandment
He said he thinks trump doesn't care about his business....LMAO
Most of them don't believe in God and his power. Trump's trick record should tell them who he is
They have so much faith in him bc they've lost their faith in God
Thank-you.
They talk about race because they are aware of the injustices. You don't talk about it because you believe because u don't want or can't see it.
So Al Jazeera gets to tell us why Christians voted for Trump? There's no smoke without fire
Their beliefs are about as ANTI-Christ as it gets.
@@ricofreako5971 The Religous Right is steeped in White Nationalist racism. You are right; their practices are anti-Christ.
Jim is saying the right thing
Because they have 1 or 2. agendas and nothing else matters.
Murder is murder
Informative Session.
One word - "WOW"!
Evangelicals are grifters too and they recognised in Trump one of their own. Always about the money.
Eric you’re right
Mehdi gave that frosty tipped clown way too much airtime. Jim Wallis speaks the truth.
"What about this? Nobody talks about that." That is literally the majority of Eric's argument
Evangelicals have been grooming the public for decades and many have fallen for their lies. However, "Nothing in all creation is hidden from God's sight; everything is uncovered and exposed before the eyes of Him to whom we must give account." Hebrews 4:13
Jean Hunter So well said! Jesus is the Truth. We need the Spirit of Truth in all spheres.
