  • Christian Nationalism has been in the news a lot lately, but what exactly is it, what's the real problem it poses, and what does pudding have to do with it???
Skye Jethani answers these questions and shows that Christian Nationalism and the Prosperity Gospel have a lot more in common than what we might think - Jesus isn't the goal, but a means to receive what they really want.

To the church of my youth,
What the hell did you expect me to do?
You told me to love my neighbors, to model the life of Jesus. To be kind and considerate, and to stand up for the bullied.
You told me to love people, consider others as more important than myself.
You taught me to sing "red and yellow, black and white, they are precious in His sight."
We sang it together, pressing the volume pedal and leaning our hearts into the chorus. You said that “He loved all the children of the world”.
You told me to love my enemies, to even do good to those who wish for bad things. You told me to never "hate" anyone and to always find ways to encourage people.
You told me it's better to give than receive, to be last instead of first. To help the poor, the widow, the stranger at the gate.
You told me that Jesus looks at what I do for the least-of-these as the true depth of my faith. You told me to focus on my own sin and not to judge. You told me to be accepting and forgiving.
    So I paid attention.
    I took in every lesson.
And I did what you told me.
But now, you call me a libtard. A queer-lover. You call me "woke." A backslider.
You call me a heretic. You make fun of my heart. You mock the people I’m trying to help.
You say I’m a child of the devil.
You call me soft. A snowflake. A socialist. You shun the very people you told me to help.
What the hell did you expect me to do?
I thought you were serious, but apparently not.
You hate nearly all the people I love. You stand against nearly all the things I stand for. I'm trying to see a way forward, but it's hard when I survey all the hurt, harm, and darkness that comes in the wake of your beliefs and presence.
What the hell did you expect me to do?
I believed it all the way.
I'm still believing it all the way.
Which leaves me wondering, what happened to you?

God bless you and thank you for saying that. I have felt this way for so long and it has led to so much confusion about religion. I now have to look at it as Love. God is Love. The damage so many x-tian churches have done, none in the name of Love, makes it so much harder for us to see that this Love is here and has been all along. Loving our neighbor, feeding the poor, being careful with the gift of a beautiful planet. I am ready for the x-tians to wake up and get back to the truth.

One of the best explanations for this movement that I’ve heard. I have been telling my Christian friends that I’m having a crisis of faith because I didn’t know how else to explain it. My faith in God is just as strong and powerful as it ever was. But I go to church with people who voted for a man because he claimed to be a Christian. And yet they cannot point out one loving act of Christianity that he did. Where as I can point out many un-Christ like things that he and many other political leaders have done while claiming that they’re doing it in the name of Jesus. It’s shameful and I don’t know how to continue to walk in love with people who claim to love Christ and do nothing to protect their neighbors rights.

The Christian ideal is to love EVERYONE, as God does (I put this as “I hope Hitler, Stalin, and Mao are in Heaven; improves my odds!”), but we also have a right to protect ourselves from anything toxic to us by separating ourselves from it. Not in a hurtful, hateful way; but in a way that creates a boundary and distance; not out of anger, but out of self-love. After all, how can we love our neighbors as ourselves if we don’t practice loving Christian charity towards ourselves? 🤔

I'm so glad I found this video and these comments. As a former Christian (ironically, the Jesuits opened the door that allowed me to conclude that "I don't have any idea," is the only reasonable answer if asked whether god exists), I often advocate for the teachings of Jesus in atheist groups. Many there have never read the Gospels, so they have no idea that the beliefs of the most vocal Christ-ians are not Christ-like. In fact, the core values that the evangelicals claim separate the righteous from sinners, wheat from the chaff, are exactly opposite what Jesus taught not only through his words and actions, but also through what he did not say or do.
He certainly never raged against sinners, occasionally telling someone he'd forgiven to "go and sin no more," but if he had negative feelings for anyone, it wasn't sinners, but the rich and the "righteous," both promises the church makes to those who believe. For a guy who included prostitutes as friends in the age of primitive birth control, he was conspicuously silent about abortion, and it's inconceivable to me that he would engage in politics to steer policy on that or any issue.
He didn't speak out against homosexuals, though it was not nearly as in the open as today. In fact, he was pretty clear about what to do if you saw your neighbor in sin - he said that judging people was his dad's job, so go clean your own house in case we stop by later so you can explain to him why you think you'd do a better job.
And in all the world's holy scriptures, which are characterized by parables, and vague, esoteric language, maybe the most plain-spoken, unambiguous instructions on what to do every day to have a closer relationship with God, Matthew 6, stands out as unique. Yet evangelicals are determined to, "practice righteousness in front of others," to "be like the hypocrites," praying in church and on the street, and "keep on babbling like pagans." I've been subjected to several essays full of scripture references to prove that Jesus got it wrong on this by people who truly "have received their reward in full."

I am now an atheist, but was a devout Christian for much of my life. I could not understand how someone could read the teachings of Jesus, yet still believe these very non-Christian ideals.

I've never been a believer but I was a bit more of a "Militant" anti-theist. That changed after learning about the Christian-led orgs. that are fighting to keep the wall of separation intact. Groups like Talk2Action, who have been pointing out the ties from Former Gov. Rick Perry and the Seven Mtns. movements, for example, when he was governor and had the utterly reprehensible Christian nationalists on stage with him to pray for rain during an extended drought. So, knowing how few nonbelievers there are in the US, it behooves us to recognize the believing people in our corner.

The USA was founded on the Model of the Constitution of Medina, with was created by Mohammed, the Islamic Religions Prophet circa 500 AD!
Yup, Thomas Jefferson was a scholar of Christianity, and Islamic laws, history, etc in Law School...proof, his Koran is in the Library of Congress, and look up the "Jefferson" Bible, which shows he was a Christian unlike all others of his time!
In fact, the Founding Fathers were Deist Christians, believing a realtionship between a person and their creator should be private, not public, thus a wall between church and State.
The war of Independance was also from the tyrannical kings right-hand Christian man, who could accuse people of heresy, and the King would get rid of them, get rid of the competition, gain power and control!
"In no instance have the churches been the guardians of the liberties, of the people" - James Madison
Read their warning about factions/ religion getting power to forward their own agenda, and destroy Democracy in Federalist Papers #9 & #10! Nope, the Founding Fathers were very specific about keeping religion out of their new, hard fought for, land of Liberty, free of Religious control!
The ChristianJudeo God is basically a Fascist, has to be worshipped, obeyed without question, the ultimate power in charge of everything, ACTS 5:29 ONLY OBEY GOD, NOT MEN.

So, America is not a Christian Nation, intentionally not rooted in religion, and modelled after an Islamic form of government anyways!
Keep your Religion Private, to be a good Patriotic American, instead of a Fascist " We tolerate no one in our ranks who critisizes Christianity. Our movement is Christian" - Oct 27, 1923 Adolph Hitler, silently partnered with rhe Holy Roman Christian Catholic Headquarters/Vatican to finally solve their Jewish problem - Holocaust!

Hitler did that to 92% Christian populated Germany in the 1930's "We tolerate no one in our ranks who Chritisizes Christianity. Since the breakaway from England, Protestant Americans have acknowledged no earthly lord save those who are self-made, be they statesmen, merchant princes, or what have you. Perhaps since victory in World War Ii put America at the top - and these days particularly - it seems difficult for Americans to acknowledge a spiritual Lord who should be heeded. For those who do hold Christ Jesus dearer than most, it would seem we are headed pell-mell for Hell in an Adidas bag - or at the very least for a humbling of (Biblical) epic proportions. Then, too, those citizens who cherish the romantic American myth that begins at Plymouth (that is, those who trusted their school textbooks) observe America's apparent teetering, and may fear our displacement from a position of advantage (forgetting the ways in which we yet remain strong and inspirational). And there are all too many of WASP heritage who are down on their luck and perceiving their country as in the same straits - and anxiously witnessing an explosive influx of darker-skinned folk who tend not to use English as their first language. These good-hearted people seem the most in danger of being seduced by Christian Nationalism, which seems such a natural outgrowth of, let's admit it, traditional WASPish homespun views and a logical path to pursue the goal of cultural consolidation and recovery to some rose-tinted vision of the ideal American nation, where people sang lusty hymns on Sundays and listened to Lawrence Welk's cultural kin the rest of the week, but evinces a most un-Christian hunger for power and an un-American desire for exclusivism. And I'm just embarrassed as all get-out by the way that sentence done run on...but I figured I'd best get it all out in a rush before the lynch mob reaches me.

I think that it is more complex, than saying it's about lies, in most cases. I think a more accurate term would be 'misdirection'. One could, for an example raise more successful children by giving them certain core values. But the goal should be to make better humans, such as being compassionate and loving towards others, along with other things Jesus taught. So, a way to judge the message, is what are the ultimate goals, in the message? Certainly political power, and physical control of others should not be the goal of a christian denomination. Jesus himself, criticized the class of people called Pharisees, who thought themselves better than others.
I hope this helps with your understanding.

Who are these Christian Nationalist? Many of these evangelicals fell into the language trap, but does this really mean Franklin Gramm has turned away from Christian orthodoxy? Christian Nationalism has become a term defined by the left. The concept of Christian Nationalism mirrors Mao’s anti-colonial campaign. This shouldn’t be surprising considering Marx hatred towards Christianity. Many opponents of Christian nationalism in one breath accuse Christian nationalist of supporting Putin while in another breath unknowingly quote the communist manifesto. One of their favorite lines is, “Christian ideas succumbed in the 18th century to rationalist ideas”. This is opposite of the true, it is Christianity which has framed western society. In a letter to James Madison, Noah Webster stated, “…it is my decided opinion, that the christian religion, in its purity, is the basis or rather the source of all genuine freedom in government…I am persuaded that no civil government of a republican form can exist & be durable, in Which the principles of that religion have not a controlling influence.” (Noah Webster to James Madison, 16 October 1829). Those who slander Christians for simply wanting to see their values represented, knowingly or not have aligned themselves with the communist worldview. What’s the end goal? To regulate religion!

People gravitate toward teachers who tell them what they want to hear. It’s alarming to see the increasing sway that religion is having over our democracy. Our nation, founded on religious freedom, is being overrun by groups overstepping their bounds and interfering with my personal religious freedom, and the freedom to determine what healthcare options are right for me.
I fully support an individual's right to practice their religion, but I cannot abide by laws that value religious doctrine over the individual right - my right - to access effective, safe, and legal medical care.
What some groups view as controversial, others have no problem with. There's no way to keep all religions happy at all times when you mix law and medicine. Conflicting philosophies on what constitutes acceptable, ethical care make it impossible for religious-based law to come to consensus, and takes the focus away from what should be a healthcare provider's primary concern: the patient.
The United States must do more to protect American patients' freedom to choose safe, legal, and scientifically sound medical procedures that are right for them, rather than protecting corporate religious freedom at the expense of the patient.

@andyderksen8455What do you consider a "Biblical worldview"? One that takes away people's rights, that decrees that certain groups are somehow unacceptable because they're different and not to your liking? Religious extremists and corporate powers-that-be have their own version of what they would consider "Biblical", but it may not be actually based on the Biblical principles of not only loving God, but loving your neighbor as yourself. And that means not *hurting* people in your mad dash to make this nation over into the Christian Nationalists' theocratic vision of how America should be, These guys think *nothing* of making laws that severely curtail a woman's right over her own body - even if forcing her to have a baby she doesn't want or can't afford, or DOES want and CAN afford, but something goes horribly wrong, or depriving a certain segment of the population the right to live as they believe that is right for them or to access necessary healthcare because some people think that they are "deviant" or flawed, or banning what *you* don't want and have decided no one else can have, either. Somehow, I can't see that being the type of "Biblical worldview" that people would "prefer", and for good reason.

What bewilders me about Republicans is the coalition of the greedy Corporatist wing of the GOP party and the Bible wing of Religious Right, two groups supposedly with little in common; I mean one covets wealth while the other is supposed to share God’s wealth. But the Bible wing (the deceived) supplies the votes so that the Corporatists (the deceivers) can take most of the booty. The Corporatists get tax cuts and deregulations that increase the corporate profits and the Bibleists get a few vague gestures on symbolic issues such as Gay rights, prayer in schools, and abortions.
Like the Pharisees, the Bibleists enjoy “public” displays of religion. These leaders of the extreme Religious Right, whom seek self-edification, excite and rile up their followers to the issues by talking about God or the Holy Spirit speaking to them, which is always about and in favor of tax cuts, less government, right to carry arms, stopping entitlements, and preemptive military action. The Holy Spirit never comes out in favor of anything without clearing it with the Republican Party. What about the Holy Spirit speaking about the Word of God? Never do you hear Religious Right leaders or Republican leaders say the Holy Spirit spoke about love, compassion, kindliness, caring for others, praying, serving, giving to the poor, the needy, or the helpless (Deuteronomy 15:11)!

@andyderksen8455 Ask yourselves if the policies of your politicians are the policies of Jesus Christ? Remember, God gives ALL the free will to love, obey and serve Him, so don’t be so quick to take those same rights from those that choose to do what we call sin. God will judge, don’t you try to take God’s place. When I speak about the Bibleists, the Religious Right Wing, or the Christian Coalition, I define them as not Christian only with this statement: The righteous person is not self-righteous, or externally moralistic. Rather, he looks to God's promises and unchanging character as the basis for his right standing before his Creator-Judge. There are people that claim to be Christians for whatever reason, then a smaller group that are Believers that believe in Jesus Christ as their Savior, BUT then there is even a smaller group that are Followers of Jesus Christ; they are the ones that live as best as they can within the Bible, serving others not taking from others, loving others without hateful words, caring for others not turning their heads away from the poor, not slandering others but sharing with others, not self-righteous but look at God’s righteousness, and not moralistic but forgiving of others.

Our free will is limited to what sin we will commit, prior to God saving us by his sovereign grace. Obviously I am not saying we don’t have CHOICES. We choose things all the time; what to watch on tv, what to make for dinner, the shirt to wear, but no, left to his own devices, man cannot choose God on his own accord. (John 6:44).

There are two kinds of religion: false religion and true religion. False religion wants to change the face of the world by any means, even by foul means-by hook or by crook. True religion wants only to love soulfully the heart of the world. True religion has a universal quality. It does not find fault with other religions. A false religion will say that it is the only valid religion and its prophet is the only saviour. A true religion will feel that all prophets are saviours of mankind.

Fantastic video! Thank you for explaining Christian Nationalism. Although it’s a new buzz term, the practice has been around a very long time.
Pastor Brandon Holthaus has a great lecture on defining Christian Nationalism and its foundation and history. But these people are dominionists. Sometimes it’s called the Seven Mountain Mandate or the Seven Pillars or Seven Hills.
Christian Nationalism has already been tried and failed by Roman Catholicism in the Dark Ages and Emperor Constantine. If you missed church on Sunday, you were punished by the government. That’s not what Jesus taught in the great commission.
But they include this with the Great Commission of Matthew 28. These people want to incorporate dominionism from Genesis and infuse that with the Great Commission and make the Churches mandate to Christianize society- regardless of conversion.
These are their seven pillars of society to convert:
    1. Religion
    2. Family
    3. Education
    4. Government
    5. Entertainment
    6. Media
    7. Business
Christian Nationalism forces Christianity on the culture by seizing the seven pillars of society. That’s heresy because that’s not the churches call. Being labeled a Christian Nationalist puts you in the category of an insurrectionist, so in the near future, you will be arrested for sharing the gospel.
Glen Beck pushes the Seven Mountain Mandate a lot on his show. He’s Mormon. Charlie Kirk supports it, too. The Apostle Paul sought no favor with the Roman Empire whatsoever, or any other rulers that he ran into. Christian Nationalism isn’t about your relationship with Jesus Christ. It’s about your relationship with the government. CN is a bad thing & all Christians are being lumped into it.

It is pure idolatry. Patriotism is idolatry. Jesus's image is idolatry because it's not really him, it's most likely Cesear Borgias. And the image of Jesus keeps getting Caucasianized to suit the racist tendencies of white people and make themselves the superior race. Muslims are right with not allowing images of Muhammad, and Allah has no identifying characteristics other than the Black Cube.

Installing exclusively Federalist Society Catholics on the Supreme Court via Leonard Leo "recommendations" qualifies as using Jesus for power.
Trump is highly transactional. He goes thru the motions of faith to validate to gain entrance to conservative Christianity. He takes conservative positions to purchase their allegiance to CN (insurrectionist) principles.

@andyderksen8455Christian Nationalism isn’t a policy. It’s a philosophy of national identity and cultural dominance. A person can be a Christian Nationalist, a policy cannot. 2 people might both be Christian Nationalists but hold different policies.
Christian Nationalism can be something which drives policy for someone, or for a group of people. But it is not a specific policy. Your question doesn’t really make sense. It isn’t Trump’s policies that are Christian Nationalist, it’s Trump himself.
He flat out called himself a Nationalist back in 2018. His rhetoric has been largely Christian Nationalist, clearly because that’s what helps him win. I don’t believe he himself is a Christian, or that he even understands what Christianity is. But the rhetoric gets him votes.
That’s the thing: you don’t even have to be a Christian to be a Christian Nationalist.

I came away feeling, not angry at Christian nationalists, but embarrassed and repentant for all the ways I'VE used Jesus as a means to some other end than Jesus Himself. And a little self-reflection could go a long way with all of us. I do think Christian nationalism is more dangerous than just about any American movement right now. But I also have to recognize the idolatry in my own heart. Thanks as always, Holy Post team.

I have no problem with the core teachings of Jesus having a strong influence on the government. I have a problem with highly flawed, sinful, arrogant, distorters of Gods truth telling us what should be done or thought.
What does the Bible actually say?
“Let all men (and women) be equal under God”. versus Republican talking points about Black Lives Matter?
“Do not mistreat or oppress a foreigner, for you were foreigners in Egypt.” versus hatred of people seeking safe asylum at the border?
“If you really keep the royal law found in Scripture, “Love your neighbor as yourself,” you are doing right. But if you show favoritism, you sin and are convicted by the law as lawbreakers.” versus Republicans media and politicians regularly sowing seeds of hatred and division.
“But you have dishonored the poor. Is it not the rich who are exploiting you?” versus Republican senators and members of the Supreme Court regularly taking money from lobby groups on behalf of rich clients.
“You shall not lie to one another” and “you shall not bear false witness” versus the Republican sham hearing faking evidence against the US President.
“You shall render unto Caesar that which is Caesar’s “ versus Trump being prosecuted for false tax returns.
“How can you say to your brother, `Let me take the speck out of your eye,' when all the time there is a plank in your own eye?” versus the relentless verbal attacks on a small number of men who choose to wear a dress.
I think many quiet and faith full Christians would paraphrase this biblical prophesy about judgement day:
“Many (Christian Nationalists) will say ….. `Lord, Lord, did we not prophesy in your name, and in your name drive out demons and perform many miracles?' (But God will reply) Then I will tell them plainly, `I never knew you. Away from me, you evildoers!'

As much as it appears that DT will be potus again, it seems to me that if God wanted DT to be in office any longer, he'd have let it happen, but even all the demons/demonic forces seeking to deceive, destroy & murder (successfully) didnt stop God's will that DT is DONE.
It's true that God could bring him back. I hear
Trumpers say God just wants us to know how blessed we were to have DT vs Biden & will not let us suffer (with all this calm & maturity???...I guess is what theyre referring to), for any longer than '24, but I hope & pray my thought is correct.
The Holy Post has truly given me a "home". I left my long time local church fam in 2017 bc i just couldn't take all the (imo) Trump worship. No politics/politician had ever bn so much as mentioned prior to DT. Then suddenly it was all about respect, honor, obedience to the potus. & I may never forget an elder's closing prayer one morning. He was so intense.with white-knuckle prayer...practically in tears "and ty Lord for blessing us with a president who has the GUTS..." i think I went comatose for a min. I felt SO ALONE in the world as a CONSERVATIVE who does NOT placate the glaringly obvious, abhorrent sin being normalized by society, incldg Biden, but thats alot easier to deal with bc, unlike Trump stuff its not in my face all the time, nor does it affect the state of the Union. God Bless you dear sibling ❤

Both when that man won the Republican nomination, and when he won the presidency, it absolutely blew my mind the sheer amount of Christians, willing to throw away Christ’s commands to love, and his example and his statement that what we do to others we do to him and the fruits of the spirit, in exchange for trumpism cruelty and power.

It may be hyperbole to refer to "Christian nationalism" as the "American Taliban", but the end result is similar to the effect the Taliban has had on Afghanistan. It uses the illusion of faith in God as a means of imposing a very specific moral and political agenda on the entire nation. America is a diverse nation with dozens (or possibly even hundreds) of religious and spiritual beliefs. Our founding fathers recognized the peril inherent in this view, and specifically outlined a plan to ensure freedom of religious beliefs was enshrined in our Constitution. That Constitution is the moral and intellectual foundation upon which the republic was built. Christian nationalists would, by imposing their values upon the entire country (even those who choose to avoid organized religion entirely), deny freedom of religion to millions of Americans. This would be a social, political and moral disaster for the millions pushed aside by this harsh and narrow "spiritual" path.

      @goldenager59 11 місяців тому +1

"Moral disaster", indeed. It does not take a giant leap of logic to see the potential for mischief. If the Christian Nationalists attain their fondest desires, perhaps America might just as well have never prevailed for its principles in World War II, or fought its Civil War to determine the extent of its hypocrisy. But, then, the Civil War has never really ended, has it? The guns ceased their mocking laughter long since, but the firearm remains a favorite American comrade; and the emotions that triggered their use have been kept largely in effective check to this day, but said emotions are part and parcel of living and therefore indispensable, and may yet again be summoned into existence by the unscrupulous to snare the simple-minded, the sick, the misinformed and misused. Those who we of today consider history's greatest villains invoked national heritage, destiny and a purported responsibility of the latest generation to keep things on the proper course, just as the great heroes have had to on occasion - and, but for fortune or divine dispensation, those villains would themselves be hailed as heroes across the lands.
Know that I, too, believe I can recognize the red-white-and-blue peril being incubated. Know also that I acknowledge responsibility to use my voice in countering it, just as have you yourself in this very forum. Justice and righteousness shall prevail, indeed - but are we yet again to divide ourselves into "us" and "them" in fighting the good fight of that worthy pursuit?

I wish there was an extra like button. Well said and succinctly put. Emerson left his post as pastor of his congregation because he believed people were obsessed with the person of Jesus rather than what he stood for. They didn't want the values or to live a Christly life, they only wanted the pudding cups. I guess the more things change, the more they stay the same.

This was the first “Holy Post” video I have seen and I am 100 percent impressed! Mister, you hit the nail on the head! This modern transactional religious practice is reminiscent of many ancient religious theologies - offering something good (prayers, tithes, sacrifice) to gain more possessions or to avert disasters (famine, plague, death). Humankind is still looking to the divine and trying to buy something.

It is a made up word by those who hate There is no love in this man, nor anyone who goes along with him. He wants God to be in his image and likeness and not the other way around. He is wolf in sheep's clothing. There are so many nowadays and the demons are crawling around looking for the ruin of souls. They are calling evil good and good evil. As a Christian, I have always been uncomfortable with it's manifestation and I knew that the end goal was cultural and political domination, but I didn't recognize the idolatry aspect.

The irony being that the bible does basically tell them various ways to keep power through oppression. You've just been fooled by cherry picking pastors into believing it is a 'good book'.That is absolute BS. It is actually a desperately morbid ocultist book. And the fella that the christ narrative is based on was actually a symbol of oppression by the religious establishment. He was killed along with many others like him (he was not The son of god you idiots) for trying out philosophy that contradicted religous beliefs. He was among many who questioned religion and then turned into a religious symbol. Do you understand yet?
