Just more and more and more and more and... I think you've missed where the dividing line is for these 'extra cost' benefits. For members that are 'all in' - no matter what, yeah, ok - maybe Disney can soak them more. But for members that are on the fence like we are - this is just another nail in the coffin to stay away forever and spend our vacation dollars elsewhere. We've already sold one contract - and the other is hanging by a thread. After a while, the nickels and dimes become dollars - and despite what Disney thinks about their customers - they are not stupid.

So here’s what I have to say in this, my family and I have been DVC members for 20 years (would have been longer, but it took a while to convince the Mrs.) and have been visiting Walt Disney World since 1975. There used to be added value in the price of a park pass, now there is not. The state of the parks right now is the worst I’ve seen since the early 80s (a year or two after Epcot opened). There is no concept of delivering “Disney magic” anymore. When we were not DVC members we stayed almost exclusively at the Disney Yacht Club and were often provided upgrades and perks (access key for concierge level, room upgrades, view upgrades) at no additional cost. We used to get things for free that are now a charge, like lightning lanes. We used to have spontaneity and now everything is planned out on an app, that we are tied to the entire time we are in the parks. Annual pass discounts were included in my original contract with DVC as well as dining and merchandise discounts at Disney Springs. Included, as in on paper with the contract that was signed. Now I don’t have access to annual passes at all because I’m not currently a Florida resident. I’ve already paid for my “exclusivity” and now they want more? Absolutely not! If they were to go back to the Disney I fell in love with, I would have no problem paying a premium. The problem is, that’s never going to happen (not with this management team at least). They are losing money because of the way they are choosing to do business, my family and I had nothing to do with that decision and yet we are suffering the consequences of their actions. I am not going to sell my DVC interest, but I am not visiting the theme parks until a big change is made.

I agree. We already paid for being a committed member(not customer!). We pay with ongoing dues and maintenance and don't even get a stupid membership CARD! I will not pay a penny more for a benefit. Sorry Pete, but extra money for something that is just doing good business is not acceptable. Now if they gave back Magical Express or offer discounted park tickets (APs, aren't offered to out of state people and honestly I don't know if I would purchase it again ), then I MIGHT pay extra. For now, I will use my DVC points to "pay" for a place to stay while I visit family and friends or other Central Florida attractions. Disney is no longer a magical place or the Happiest Place on Earth.

We were one of the very first to buy at old Key West. The pool wasn’t even completed yet.
We have also been annual pass holders for decades . We just decided to not renew our passes because the reservation system is ridiculous and has prevented us for using our passes on several occasions. It is clear that Disney does not want annual passes and has no sense of loyalty for people who have supported Disney for years.
If DVC changes are not acceptable then we will be selling our points as well. Don’t know if anyone will read my comment but it seems that the current CEO is driving Disney into the ground . As people have commented.
Where is the magic? Nickel and dime is exactly what is happening and what a slap in the face to those of us who actually helped build this company. Poor management is happening and they will continue to lose their faithful
    fans like me !!!

We bought DVC in Oct 21. The plan was to buy our APs when we made our first trip. Then they went away. Our guide had pointed out the discounted APs as a plus of membership. Very disappointed and our addonitis has gone away. DVC direct members should be able to buy APs. Resale also, but we paid top dollar and regret our purchase.

Naw. I am direct member from way back. I would not pay for what I once got for free. Especially for room requests. That borders on extortion. I love the Dis and DVC Fan, etc. but I wish there was always an opposing opinion at the table. This falls a little short on that prospective. Adding a paid upgrade is a gut punch to me as our direct purchase was already a paid upgrade for us. However, if this is how they justifiably pay for these perks then I will in all likeliness, begrudgingly hand over my money. If this perk extends to resale members (we are resale also) we would sell our direct contract and likely not purchase the poly tower we are considering until it hits the resale market.

Many of the benefits that you originally suggested would benefit local DVC owners since they have flexible access to the parks. There has already been a significant investment by members, direct as well as resale, given the money that is paid upfront for the contract as well as the yearly maintenance fee. This is not the same as another subscription…you don’t pay multiple thousands of dollars to Netflix or Hulu and then need to also give them a monthly fee for an upgraded product.

the DVC california activies were yoga in the park (adventure trail in CA adventures) or a walk through the park (also CA adventures) before the park opens. I also remember those being free activities to members.

I can say for myself and so since the nickel and diming started a few years ago it had a point for us and we said nope we haven’t been back to Disney World or Disneyland since then and we don’t plan to but
Disney cruises has not yet gone down the nickel and diamond route so we’re doing that and prior to Covid we went to Paris and Tokyo and at the time wasnot out of nickel and dime if any

  • @rocketjuiced
    @rocketjuiced Рік тому +5

I honestly can't believe what I'm hearing?? DVC has stripped perks and benefits away and now to get them back you are willing to pay more for them? Yes, you talk about "let's make them creative" but honestly with Disney Co's history, do you not expect even the simplest of perks to end up behind that paywall once members start begrudgingly opening their wallets even wider? This is how we got Genie+ and $15 individual rides. WDW created Fastpasses a guest enrichment to the overall experience, but when it got too big and out of control they do what they always do and make it more expensive and a downgraded experience. It's time to realize that DVC as a whole is oversaturated. Yes, does it make money for Disney corp, of course. But how many blue card members are still complaining that they are shut out of things like Moonlight magic, or the most recent DVC member cruise...and that with the resale owners already excluded. So again, Disney's solution is to just "charge more" for those things we were offered as part of membership to help thin out the demand. Eventually, even direct purchasures will be held hostage-you get nothing but a hotel room or open your wallet sucker.

paid benefits are not benefits …they’re a purchased up sell. Our last visit in January was such a disappointment in service and cost. talking about room selection…I requested consideration of an accessible room..close to the main building. What we got in response was…take the elevator!… and a unit close to the entrance of the resort…with only one handicap space for the entire unit…….so much for a welcome home attitude. It’s tiring when specific requests are mentioned and confirmed during reservation, then upon arrival..what you get is disregard and an attitude of put up and be just take what you get. Not to mention a pull out matress that is 1 inch thick with bars protruding ..
More money for more benefits…don’t think so ….Disney, you can do so much better…because you have been better….please stop biting the hands that are feeding you!!!

I gave a thumbs up because I know it helps and I love you guys and your show. But I don't agree. Paid extras are not perks. Setting up a group that gets more because they were able to pay for it, creating a tiered "class" structure does not leave a good feeling. "Them that's got shall get". Even if the price starts 'low', we all have ample evidence of how quickly it goes up one the precedent is established. I would not be able to pay more than I already do. I would end up being very resentful of no longer being on an even footing with fellow members when trying to get a spot in MM or whatever. Suddenly my points and membership is 2nd or even 3rd class because I can't pony up more money for an advantage over other members. We all paid out our money to buy a share in the club, but now some can buy advantages over others? It just leaves me with a really bad taste.

We are new Direct (and resale) members as of Dec. 2021 and we have still been unable to purchase annual passes. THAT is what needs to come back for direct members. NEW and valuable benefits are going to have to be added for them to keep direct purchases viable. I still love you guys, and love the show… but. One of the ideas that you guys all seemed to be floating around on this episode was actually quite disturbing to me. What makes it worse is that I’m sure that Disney listens to this show to help them gauge what’s acceptable and even what they might be able to get away with.
I don’t necessarily have a problem with Disney making a paid “perks” program. It’s something that I might even consider myself, depending on what’s included. But under no circumstances do I think that it would ever be acceptable to use something like this to give certain members any sort of preferential treatment In regards to room assignment or waitlisting… most certainly not at a members home resort, which they paid for. That idea is absolutely absurd. Everyone should be treated the same in this regard. I think something like this would become even more questionable when it comes to resale members. What if this is something that’s not even offered to a resale member?
An added perks program should add benefits for what you are paying. Not try to hinder basic functions that shouldn’t even be considered a perk. I think you could make the argument that the ability to even stay at a resort, other than your home resort might be a perk... but certainly shouldn’t do this at a members home resort. The only thing you could feasibly do is grant request based on the 11 month window… and I personally don’t even think they should do that. I do like some of the ideas that you guys had as perks, but not messing with room assignments and waitlisting.
Disney doing anything that puts room assignment/ waitlisting preference behind a pay wall and/or potentially even cuts resale members out of that process, would probably be the first thing that Disney has done that would make me outright regret becoming a DVC member. There are a lot of things that they’ve done that I haven’t liked, but this would be the only one to make me regret becoming a member completely. Messing with room assignment preference, is an idea that I definitely hope they run into legality issues with.. because it’s crossing the line.
I do think that offering resale members the opportunity to get perks at a higher cost is a good idea. In fact I’ve always thought that it would be a good business decision for them to offer a program that allows resale members to upgrade to full membership…. However, this shouldn’t involve room an assignment in any way.
This is my opinion, I guess we will see what happens.
Thanks for doing the show. :)

We just ate out (I won't say the name) and got baby back ribs as a side-it was awful. I turned around and made them at home and was like these ones at home were so much cheaper and so much better. If a DVC member doesn't have a park reservation or park hopping privileges, you have a designated area to escort the guests into and out of the park for those experiences.

We would definitely benefit from discount tickets, discount dining (including QS), and free # of LL rides.

What about a DVC dedicated Mobile App to put all your reservations, benefits, and account access all in one easy location? It took me 14 years to get my wife to be open to buying into DVC. We are disney fanatics and our children are as well. It would be awesome if I could pay my DVC bill, book and/or borrow points, and get all inclusive deals on one easy to use App. What do you think Pete?

I don’t get how it’s ok to be happy about paying more for things . Coming from
The Uk we miss out on so much anyway and the way we tend to holiday is 2/3 weeks at a time if your lucky a couple of trips a year but it’s not like we can come over for a weekend or a few days throughout the year .We brought dvc resale to save money and we were lucky to have brought a while ago when we still were able to get the blue card and the perks it brings and also knew the things we couldn’t get which is fine . But it seems there’s a culture that I’m
Hearing a lot that it’s ok , great take my money . I lost my husband a few years ago so am
Down to one income and having dvc allows myself and family to
Be able to holiday knowing that our accommodation is paid for .( the dues every year I have to save for and also save to get over etc so all this talk and the acceptance of yeah well if you want this it’s going to cost more, but that’s ok saddens me)
You can say “well you don’t have to buy into those things” but the fact we are even talking about it rumour or not just doesn’t sit right and sadly I feel that soon we will be priced out of the place that we have holidayed and spent and made many happy memories in🥲 🙈🤷‍♀️!

I would support no black out dates for DVC when they bring back the Annual Passes. I upgraded to the IncrediPass but still can’t renew my family due to when they expired right before Covid. It would be nice to give us some sort of priority for passes since we visit several times a year.

Allowing resale-only buyers to pay a fee to access the current “direct member benefits” makes sense to me. What does NOT make sense is asking current direct owners to start paying for the benefits that have been included up until now.
Paying more money for things that were once included in your already-premium membership is not acceptable.
I’m surprised to see anyone on the panel be even partially open to that.

Having watched your stream about rumored changes to member benefits I felt compelled to chime in. Let me start by first saying that if Disney chooses to go the Pay for benefits route, any further tampering or reduction of benefits SHOULD not be tolerated. Laying out cash should be considered an addendum to the existing contract and not dismissed on a whim. My suggestions are as follows. Discounted or free benefits for direct purchase from Disney and additional suggested paid for benefits
    1. Booking one year out on any DVC
    2. Quick service discount
    3. Additional maid service
    4. Preferred parking at all four parks
    5. 1 hr. early entry
    6. After hours at all parks
    7. Access to and creation of DVC lounges in all parks
    8. Six month out dining reservations
    9. In room bottled water
    10. Free Disney Genie plus
    11. Free lightning lane passes
    12. Early virtual line queue
    🤫🙂😇

If the benefit will be at all Disney Parks and resorts. Then I might pay for this and as long it by member number and not by contracts.
If the big discount all the parks passes and not only the USA parks. A bigger discount at the DVC resorts and cruise then I would think of paying for something like that.

The problem with the paid extra idea is that Disney will GAUGE us for that benefit. You can’t get reservations now. You don’t even get discounts at Copper Canyon at Wilderness Lodge! That bar was added when DVC added more rooms there! We are getting less and less and paying more and more. Our children are grown and one has his own points. That being said, the draw to keep paying more and more is not an attractive idea

The free bus service to and from the Orlando airport to the resorts were a big deal. They should bring that back along with the rest of them. We already paid a big premium to become DVC members, now to nickel and dime us throughout the rest of our contacts is totally twisted and evil.
Not okay with giving Disney more money! Speak for yourself! The reason most people buy DVC in the first place is to have first class Disney experiences while saving money! If we're going to be nickeled and dimed above the yearly maintenance and the substantial initial investments we already made, I think that I; as well as probably a few others; will probably be dumping my DVC. Been an owner for 14 years, and my family has enjoyed it yearly. Damn shame that they're pulling this b.s..

If the perks add-on is for more discounts, X number of free lightning passes, added events etc. fine but I find the nickel and dime-ing on waitlist priority and room requests disgusting. You bought and paid for those things with your contract and dues, any room request or waitlist should only be determined by time requested and/or need and on the same playing field as any other member. What's going to happen? "Oh no we don't consider your room location request because you aren't direct and/or perked?" What's the experience going to be like for people who have mobility concerns, other disabilities etc? No other hotel requires more money for room requests, especially where you already paid for a certain category.

As a long time "DIRECT" Member I think this is a Great Idea so long as they increase the amount of "PERKS" and somehow segregate the DIRECT from RESALE. The Resale Market will always pay less for Membership so that money would have to be recouped in a Perk Package. As a "Direct" Member I would want something to show that I am an "exclusive" or "Direct" Member with DVC. I would like to debate your suggestion Paul regarding Annual Passes. We have been AP holders for years and we just renewed in May from Platinum to Sorcerer and we were discounted. So my thought is what you are talking about is Members that are not AP holders yet that want to be, which you did not say it that way or at least I didn't hear it said that way. I Love this channel and I know other viewers would agree that you should do it LIVE now and then so as Members and Viewers, We could interact through chat and give our perspectives. the Blue Card/White card fight is garbage. All you are doing is trying to justify your personal choice of investment. The "well we paid more" manta doesn't hold water b/c there are OG DVC members who have paid waaaaaaaaay less on their points who are still able to use all these cherished benefits new owners paying $200+/pp think they are exclusively entitled to. Excluding resale owners from perks is just petty. Those points and dues were already in the system, just heald by someone else. Regardless of what the private sale price is, those points (and perks) would have been used by the original owner. It's like saying "you can buy my used car, but I need to take the radio out b/c you are don't the original owner and you cant enjoy the same things I enjoyed while driving it." Whats even funnier now is this discussion of paying DVC MORE money for things that used to be part of membership, further trying to distance yourself from these unwashed resale people. Meanwhile, DVC is fleecing you and you are happily obliging just for that satisfaction of "I paid more...again." If DVC needed to put these restrictions in place to begin with, maybe they should be looking at their own product and realizing that it is way overpriced and unattainable by many buyers and that's why resale is still so popular. likewise, we as owners NEED the resale market to stay strong. Sure life was rainbows and bunny rabbits when we signed our contracts, but tomorrow is never guaranteed and any of us can find ourselves in situations where we can no longer support the contract. Until DVC offers a direct buyback program, a healthy resale market only benefits us. -Signed a blue card carrying member.
