Hey guys and welcome back to Mad About Skin where in todays video I want to share with you my thoughts on the 30 bestselling lip balms and help you to work out which is the best lip balm for your skincare routine.
Lip balms can be a great addition to your skincare routine, they hydrate the lips, prevent cracked lips and can have some anti-ageing lips benefit too. However there are good and bad lip balms out there so I thought I would put the 30 best selling lip balms through their paces and help you to find the best one.
Have you ever felt trapped in a lip balm cycle where the more you use the drier your lips get and the more you find yourself reaching for the chapstick.. Well a good lip balm is essential to your skincare routine but it's crucial you find one which works.

I have tried the MAS lip conditioner for about a week & I can attest to the fact that whenever I use it before going to bed, my lips are soft and still hydrated in the morning. 👄👌🏼 It’s the best hydrating lip product I’ve ever used. I’m NOT saying this cause I love Rob’s channel. The hype is real! ☺️ Thank you for a wonderful product, Rob! 🙏🏼💙

Hi Rob I did order your lip balm and I do like it as part of my twice daily skincare, but a few really long term favourites are:
ultrasun spf50 or spf30 - an spf lipbalm that doesn't taste terrible, actually moisturises the lips and doesn't contain a load of fragrance/aroma - it's a Summer staple for me.
Lanolips original lip balm - super moisturising and really stays on the lips overnight without smearing everywhere. It's a Winter favourite. I like some of the tinted ones, but they do contain some fragrance/aroma and are more of a makeup item for me.
Avene cicalfate lip balm - the absolute best thing I have tried for really chapped/sore lips and I keep one on hand as a rescue remedy. I also like it as an overnight lip mask in a thicker layer in the Winter.
Your lipbalm does provide some lasting hydration and sinks into the lips really well, but I don't see it replacing the three mentioned - they're very different products and for different issues. As it sinks into the lips really well it's an excellent base for lipstick in the morning, or for a daytime top up of balm. It has to said however I have super dry skin and am very prone to dry/chapped lips, if I'm not diligent about applying balm as needed. Most people will be absolutely fine with the hydration your balm provides, without needing anything else apart from an spf.
The laneige was a huge disappointment for me and I'm glad I bought it on a really good offer price lol. I've been using it as a lip gloss to use it up. Vaseline does have a place for me as an extra layer when needed, but it's fairly meh alone. I avoid many of the most popular balms eg carmex, chap stick etc for the reasons stated in the video. I recently bought the Awake by Tarte Lip Therapy lip mask (more of a balm in a jar) and have been so impressed! I had never even heard of it, but after reading the ingredients, decided I needed to try it. I have tried so many (many expensive) lip products for my chronically dry lips, and this is the first that has given me soft, smooth lips day after day! I use it as a mask at night and a balm during the day. Even my husband asks for a bit of it sometimes because it works so well! I will definitely be buying more and I can't recommend it enough. You also get a large amount for the reasonable price of $20
Hey Rob, I'm enjoying the MAS lip conditioner, I chew my lips alot and I find this has really helped, I use it am and pm and once in-between and my lips feel really soft and not at all dry 💖💖
Vaseline actually works for me! As Rob said you do need something to hydrate underneath, so what I usually do is put my hydrating serums and my moisturiser on my lips and then top it off with vaseline and it keeps my lips protected all day
I got my MAS order and am sooooo excited to try the lip balm! Unfortunately I’ve had to treat a little bit of eczema on my lips before I can introduce anything new, but I’m happy to say that I’ll be trying it out tonight with my PM skincare routine! I’ve also been loving the moisturizer on my hands, since my face is too sensitive right now and doesn’t seem to be tolerating even low concentrations of urea. But based on how my hands feel, I think the moisturizer is fantastic! (I also ordered the cleanser, which I already love!) Will the lip balm be my favorite MAS product so far? I can’t wait to find out!
So agree with everything you said! During COVID dr.pawpaw was also hyped within NHS because they gave us things and I felt the same way regards the cycle of putting and putting and still dry! Nuxe and cicaplast were my Heroes! I also love lanolips! Will definitely try your brand!

Hey Rob, Happy Tuesday evening as I write this note to you. I have been out in the garden all day. Last evening I tried the MAS exfoliator, it seems gentle enough for my skin. BUT the MAS Lip Conditioner is WOW!!!!!. I used it last evening, and this morning. A little goes such a long way. It feels wonderful on my dry lips. This morning I applied it along with my skincare. I did apply some lipliner just in case it 'bled' onto my skin. After brekkie, the lip conditioner was still doing its thing. I put on lipstick over the conditioner, they blended well. Oooooo! Didn’t know Paula’s Choice had a sunscreen lip balm that is reasonably priced! Might have to try that. I’ve really like the Vanicream lip sunscreen.

I’m on accutane and the Clean & Pure Manuka honey lip balm has been a life saver for me! I’ve found the balms that work best for me typically have less & more natural ingredients & this one lasts a while as well
Although their not cruelty free, I love the cerave healing ointment for just at home application, the avene cicalfate lip is quite good, and I am obsessed with the Rohto mentholatum watery lip spf 20 for lip spf reapplication! A big thing for me with lip spf is the taste, and that one passes the taste-free test! I have also heard their melty cream lip is good- will have to try that next!
Yes! Another Rohto Mentholatum lip SPF devotee! I've tried so many lip SPFs and theirs are the ONLY ones I will buy until death/disconuation do us part. I do prefer both the texture and slightly higher SPF of the "melty cream" one! The matcha version is my happy place.
They are seriously the only ones that don't sting, taste awful, dry out my lips, leave a white cast, OR have obnoxious mint/menthol/eucalyptus crap.
I’ve used the vanicream lip balm with spf. Works great but leaves a white cast. Also the elta works great as well.
My favorite that I use daily is the LRP Cica lip balm. LOVE it because is the only one that has long term effects. Does not come out easily and improves the lip skin. I will try yours now :)

I’ve been «hunting high & low» for decades in search of the perfect Lip-balm, and like you: I had to create it myself to be happy about it! 😉 I’ve got really dry skin and lips, and I never leave the house without at least two balms (prefereable one with spf and one with colour), a gloss or two and a lipstick (or two). I’m very addicted to Lip products 😁 I love-love-love Burt’s Bees Shimmer Sticks, LanoLips with spf 50, Clinique’s Moisture Surge Hydro Lip, Babor essential care. I can’t stand spf lotions/creams on my lips, apart from NIOD’s Survival 30, so nowadays I’m hunting for a great Lip balm with SPF from Norwegian stores… still haven’t found the one & only yet… Does Mad About Skin’s Lipbalm contain spf? Idk norwegian lip balms... but neutrogena has a notwegian formula with, I believe Spf 15 or 20... I forgot. And I was going to ask you have you tried Coola LipLux? It has SPF 30. It comes in one clear and one tinted. Coola also has their mineral lip balms that are tinted, but $8 more than the other version.
@@lisamaria6644 Thanks for the recommendations! 😘 I have the Coola LipLux spf 30, but I find it doesn’t last a long time on the lips; it feels sort of drying and I have to re-apply all the time… I love the Lanolips spf 30s; however I have to get them from the UK (Cult Beauty/ Lookfantastic).
I like using the technic lip sleeping mask at night and the Nivea lip balm with SPF during the day xx
My go to right now is the lip salve SPF15 from boots (own brand). I was quite impressed with the ingredients and keeps my lips hydrated all day!
Yes yes yes I love the Nuxe I apply it at night in the winter and it’s still on my lips when I wake up.
The lip balm I will never be without is the Paula's Choice Lip & Body Treatment Balm. It lasts me for a couple of years and I put it on once or twice a week at night. It instantly heals my lips and I live in a very dry and very hot and very cold climate in Canada.

Every time I order from yesstyle I try some lip balms. My faves right now are the Mentholatum brand Water Lip and the Deep Moist (ew) spf balm. No fragrance, eo, menthol. Love them

Hey MAS!, i know in this video you said you dont buy spf lip balms but for us who prefer to have all around spf lip balm for moisture nd protection can you look into making a video and discovering your top 10 spf lip balms!? Ik you mentioned one already that would be your go to spf lip balm (Paula's choice lipscreen) but I wonder if maybe there's more you just maybe haven't looked into or discovered being you just apply your normal sunscreen on your lips and then a lip balm on top of that.
What do you think about Primera lip mask ? Hyram recommended it a few times 💕

Lip care is something I constantly struggle with, they're always peeling. I've tried many different balms. The Cerave ointment that everyone loves and similar products containing petrolatum makes my lips worse when used alone. At the moment I alternate from the Burt Bees one with bakuchiol when my lips aren't too bad to Good Molecules Ultra Hydrating oil under Cerave Ointment when my lips are bad.
I've tried using hyaluronic acid under Cerave Ointment but I haven't found a hyaluronic acid that felt like it was OK to have on my lips. Paula's Choice has a hyaluronic acid booster just for lips but it's expensive.
I took a look at your lip conditioner and I may give it a try.
I’ve had dry lips since as long as I can remember! Drinking loads more water didn’t help. I hated chapstick which my dad was always putting on me as a kid (seemed to make things worse). I found a lip scrub in the early 00’s which helped some. I
Someone recommended laneige lip mask and at first it seemed to help but wasn’t a holy grail. In desperation I got aquaphor lip repair which made things 100 ti es worse in less than 24 hours! I ordered some Q&A licorice oil but the messed up supply chain meant it was gonna be 2 weeks. I stumbled across Your Good Skin soothing lip balm. It was $16! I was desperate as the aquaphor damage was still raging. OMFG!!!! New holy grail. The Q&A finally arrived which I do use but the Your Good Skin one is still my fav.
Nuxe lip balm for me… only need to use it twice a day and Iv used it for years! The pot lasts for months and months - 6 months for me. Game changer
I always liked Vaseline as a lipbalm. Recently am enjoying Weleda skinfood as a lipbalm.
Just wondered what are your thoughts on the nivea lip balms becuase thats what I use on a day to day basis and wondered if it was any good or am I just wasting my money?
Leovard lip serum is just lovely. Packed with great ingredients and feels the lips plump and hydrated with minimal application.

Nuxe is my ride or die! It's worth every penny for me, I used up one jar in about 10 months using it 2 to 3 times a day. I always manage to find it discounted so definitely definitely try it out if you have chronically dry lips like me.
I love Nuxe. That and Cerave healing ointment. But Nuxe is definitely my favorite.

It's ridiculously priced but there's something about the Estee Lauder pure color envy lip repair potion in terms of hydration that leaves my lips so smooth the next morning especially if I seal it in with aquifer or Vaseline!

I also love the Vanicream lip spf. And - I use it as an spf on my hooded eyes which makes the glow and the white cast almost a highlighter. It's the only spf my eyelids tolerate, then I use the Vanicream moisturizer on them at night.

I have fallen for the Bioderma lipstick and balm. It keeps my lips hydrated all night with one application unlike Laneige and Biossance.
In the day I use Aquaphor since it has spf in it then a tinted lip gloss. I have the Cosrx balms and I'm hoping they are good.
I like the Dr. Paw Paw balm. It’s Vegan and cruelty free. Thick and occlusive.
My holy grail lip balm is (fresh advanced lip treatment) I have a very very sensitive lips and the only lip balm my lips can tolerate is fresh the clear lip balm very nourishing, non irritating, suitable for very sensitive lips and has a long lasting hydration... Highly recommend

Lip balms are so personally aren't they. I didn't enjoy so much the taste of the La Roche Posey lip balm, so found myself using it on other areas of my body instead. I'm curious about the Nuxe one and if that one might have an 'aftertaste' at all.

I love the Cetaphil healing ointment as a lip balm and eye cream at night. It has the occlusion of Vaseline with added moisturizing ingredients. I really want to try the Paula's choice lip balm bc I would like something with spf during the day. Every spf lip balm I've tried tastes terrible and it lingers in the mouth for hours

the NIOD helped my aging thinning lips and most importantly actually finished a disruptive lip scar. I stopped using NIOD for two weeks to test the MAS balm. I HAVE USED NIOD lip for two years loved it helping my lips look fuller and the scar fading. unfortunately NIOD always dried out my lips and I needed to use another balm, usually Then I Met you melon balm.
I love the MAS lip balm which has been game changing for me over the past ten days. however the scar on my upper lip reappeared. my successful solution is to use NIOD in the morning, followed by MAS lip balm which cures the drying. I use MAS lip balm at bedtime. I think this will prove to be a winning combo. I will experiment because I think I may only need to use NIOD LIP serum two or three times per week to hide my scar

@@sandokero I bought my first bottle in the Dec 2020 sale. Using it once a day as suggested I am still using the first bottle 18 months later. I apply it with a lip brush, (using the dropper to put one to two drops on the brush.). It’s a little hard to tell but I think I still have 1/4 bottle left. I expected to use it up sooner so I got a replacement bottle at the Dec 2021 sale, that is still unopened. I use a lip brush because it makes my sensitive skin red if it drips on my skin around my mouth. Also it helped me brush it over the scar on my upper lip from a fall on the sidewalk several years ago. It amazed me that it helped with the scar several years after the accident. It does dry my lips as many commentators note, so it pairs well with the new MAS lip balm. I usually don’t like lip plumpers. The NIOD plumps and deepens my lip color in a very natural way. I tried several NIOD products at the Dec 2020 sale. The lip serum was the most impressive. I rebought the NIOD CIAS but am on the fence about whether I will buy more when the second bottle is gone. Deciem has a 23% sale on until June 23 so it is a good time to try it.
I know I'm really late to this conversation, but NUXE is not considered cruelty free according to several sources (incl. Cruelty-Free Kitty) 😔

I am a huge fan of LRP, but the lip balm clogs the pores in the contour of my lips. I checked the nuxe inci - actually, nothing special, cera alba, a few oils, leticine, shea butter and honey, similar to my DIY balms. I Will try It anyway. Not impressed by laneige. I have good results layering the hidrating products on my lips.

Unfortunately I don't think any of the ones mentioned are vegan :( Is this something you would consider shouting out Rob - if products have animal-derived ingredients? At least for videos like this where most of them do.

I hate the laneige lip mask. I don't think it works bad actually,but i hate the feel of it. Too thick, too oily. When i wake up during the night i just grab a tisue and wipe it off.
