    When I was little, my aunt would invite my sister and me over at Christmas time to bake Christmas cookies. These were one of the cookies we would bake. They are my favorite. She would let us wear one of her aprons and we made cookies all day long! Thank you for reminding me of a special Christmas memory.

    I figured out last year that mixing the cookie dough ahead of time is the easy thing for me to do. For these, I would mix on one day, bake within the next couple days, and then freeze in batches. For cookies that are rolled into balls and then baked, I roll into balls, freeze individually on a cookie sheet, then put into small freezer containers to be baked in small batches as I want them. Last year, I froze cookie balls ready-to-bake and baked the last of them just a couple of months ago.
    I will be making this recipe -- they look and sound delicious!
    I'll remember -- chill the dough; drop batter onto cookie sheet about the size of a large walnut; bake 30 minutes at 300F.

    This brings back memories, though my mom didn't set out to make these! Dad wanted & made a pecan pie, but didn't never baked it! Mom threw it in the mixer, worked her magic and these look exactly like what she made! I think she threw anything in there she could find including a can of fruit cocktail! She ended up calling them garbage cookies and they were so good! I'm going to try your recipe and see if I can re-create them!

    My grandma always made something similar to this called Lebkuchen cookies at Christmas time. I have made them often when I lived in NY state, but since moving south to VA, I cannot always find the candied fruit. There is not the same variety or selection offered here in the South. Delicious cookies and your recipe looks similar. Thank you. I can tell you love to bake...me too.

    I have been watching and listening to you for much of this day. I have been cooking for many, many years and I still enjoy watching and listening to someone as skilled in the art of real honest cooking as you are.. I made a potato soup today because it is dark and raining and I was in the mood. My husband who has been eating my cooking for over 48 years of marriage said I could make an old shoe taste good. I can watch you in my kitchen while sitting at the table peeling potatoes. I used the Vidalia chop wizard for all of the potato's that my husband grew in the garden this year. Some of them were red, some blue and some the yukons. My goodness it was good. I sure do enjoy anything you have put on. From making curtains to reupholstering your motorhome cushions and so, so much more. I have been watching your video's for many years now and have even bought some of your recommendations. Pleased with everything so far. I guess you could say I really enjoy you and Mr. Buckey and your dogs too.

    These look amazing! Thank you for everything you share with us. Do you have a video on how to keep stainless steel pans from sticking and/or best way to clean them? I would love to switch away from Teflon but afraid of making a huge mess and wasting food.

    • @PhyllisStokes
      @PhyllisStokes  7 років тому +3

      Don't think I have a video on stainless steel pans. I would suggest you go to a ceramic pan which you can get at Dollar General for $8.50 or in our area they are $7.50. They are cheap and can be non-stick with only a little oil. They have both skillets and pots. They are red on the outside and white on the inside. Be sure to read the directions. I think you would be happy with those and could away from the Teflon.

    Ms Phyllis, I made these cookies this week and let me tell you - they are amazing! I've never been much for "fruit cake", but my wife is a fan. I didn't want her to miss out this year, so we compromised on these cookies. Very glad we did - she loved them as well. Definitely adding them to our Christmas cookie list. Thank you so much for sharing the recipe! Wishing you, Mr Bucky, Steely, and Sunny a very merry Christmas!

    Thank you for the recipe...I love the older recipes...guess cause I am old...LOL! These look yummy, would be so good with a cup of coffee.
    You really need one of the KA FIex Edge beaters for your tilt head mixer..I know you would love it. I use mine all the time, no side scraping needed with your spatula.
    I use those salad containers for giving gifts of cookies, candy, etc. Put a pretty label on top describing what's inside. I love repurposing. Hugs, Deanna in Oklahoma

    Miss Phyllis, What is your technique for cutting the candied fruit? Do you use a knife or sissor? Seems like that fruit sticks to any knife. Thanks again for a great teaching video!

    • @PhyllisStokes
      @PhyllisStokes  6 років тому +1

      I use scissors to cut the candied fruit it still sticks to the scissors a little bit but nothing as bad as it sticks to knives.

    Hi Phyllis, which of these recipes do you prefer this one "Old Fashioned Fruit Cake Cookies" or the "Christmas Cookies" in one of your other video, I notice this recipe calls for 1/2 cup more of brown sugar and two more eggs, no baking powder, milk instead of rum, anyway they both sound delicious, I just wanted to know which one you prefer?

    Oh my word Phyllis, COOL ON THE PAN IF YOU WANT THEM TO BE SOFT ON THE INSIDE AND CRISPY ON THE OUTSIDE. Does that tip apply to ALL cookies? Made some Oatmeal cookies and this weekend and they were too crispy for taste. If I had cooled them on the pan would that have made a difference? YOU ARE THE MOST FABULOUS COOK EVER!!!!

    • @PhyllisStokes
      @PhyllisStokes  7 років тому

      You can put the cookies in a freezer bag add a piece of fresh loaf bread and in the morning the cookies will most likely be soft. It does help to make the cookies soft by leaving them on the pan, this also works for biscuits.

    when you held up the book I was thinking if you got a better camera that shot in full hd . we could all get that recipe right there and then . your camera only shoots in 480p as good as you cook in sure you could sell some cakes or pies to pay for the up grade to 1080p .but if you don't ill still keep watching your channel . have a good Christmas

    • @PhyllisStokes
      @PhyllisStokes  10 років тому

      Hi 390bear, I wish I was as smart as you with knowledge of cameras. I don't know what 480p means or how you can tell the size of my camera. I'm going to have to get a new camera soon and I don't even know where to start. When we bought this camera about 4 or 5 years ago we just ask the guy at Best Buy which camera would work best for us and he showed us the Sony and said it had the best lens, so we bought it. It has worked well for us but we're running out of space on the software.
      I keep getting a message every time I upload a video onto the computer that I only have 61.5gb for storage, then later it said more space had been added. I have not a clue what all this means. What camera would you recommend?

    • @390bear
      @390bear 10 років тому

      Phyllis Stokes hi Phyllis as you look at a video click on that gear at the bottom and it will say quality. click on that and yours says 480p... {480 pixels } if you watch a bunch of videos and find a clear crisp video you like comment on their video and ask what camera they are using usually one that records in 1080p the p meaning pixels dots that make up the video or picture cameras have come a long way and now if you don't like it you can always take it back there is also a couple youtube videos of good cameras that are used on youtube sony and cannon are really good keep them good cooking videos coming

    OMG My Mother made these Cookies :) I have her Cookbooks and they are in 2 of her books from the 1950ties. OMG I have a Cookbook made in 1922 and it talk from the beginning of making a Chicken recipe, meaning it says how to kill it and then how to pluck the wet feathers and then clean the insides out then it tells you how to cook it. I was raised on a working Farm so I already know how to do that stuff. I have a lot of respect for animals that God Provided for us to live. Oh I found a recipe Mrs Phyllis, my Vet is always on us about giving our little dogs pumpkin puree. So I found a recipe on here for treats for small dogs or big, but its for pumpkin puree so the little dogs can clean their anal glands. That's a problem sometimes. So its simple I'm sure you know it but its 15oz pumpkin puree 2 tablespoons peanut butter 5 cups of plain flour 4 eggs 3 packs of chicken or beef bullion powder and water to adjust the paste it makes. I made a batch and its first pan is cooking in the oven :) I used Beef and being it has salt I omitted the salt. I hope they like them, The recipe also had cinnamon but I don't think my babies would like cinnamon LOL they will love that beef taste. Ok I will be around I'm home alone today. Big Huggz oxox

      OMG Mrs Phyllis I told you I had a Batch in the OVEN OMG OMG lololololol they went crazy, they did they went crazy over those darn biscuits LOLOLOLOL I am Rolling on the Floor laughing my Head off LOLOLOL Those little dogs all 6 of them OMG they were Ruffing for more LOLOLOL the Vet was Right, they thought they had a Filet Of Beef Tenderloin I'm not kidding L:OLOL You gotta make those Pumpkin Biscuits LOL P.S Mrs Phyllis Do you do the Sweet Potato's Fresh or canned? And do you just give them the Potato? I don't think Our pups will just eat a sweet potato, do you have a mix or a biscuit you make?

    • @glendadavid1374
      @glendadavid1374 6 років тому

      Mrs Phyllis I forgot to ask you, Did You know about little Dogs having that Gland problem? Remember these are my first doggies I ever had, 6 years this October. The Vet talks about it and says little dogs have that problem and a lot of impurities go there also and its like a filter to them and it gets clogged up and the most Natural thing He said was Pumpkin Puree. I Told my Husband he gets to walk them here in about an hour hahahahaha I cooked the biscuits he can walk them :) Its only fair :) But I guess its a bad issue. They smell great actually :) I almost ate one I did taste of one but no sugar its just pure Pumpkin. I wonder if Ginger is a Good detoxin for little dogs, I'll have to ask if you don't know, I'm still learnin Mrs Phyllis. I sure do enjoy Your Video's, You might need to start making some more Cuz I'm fixing to run out, Oh Lord David will be in a fix if I run out of Your Video's. I'll just watch em again :) But New ones would be great. Oh We meant to ask, Are you far from Myrtle Beach Mrs Phyllis? Do ya'all ever go out there? I LOVE Myrtle Beach!! OMG I just Love it!! Its Better than Daytona down here, Daytona down here isn't nice and friendly anymore :( We use to go a lot over there on the other Coast, you know I live on the Gulf of Mexico we have to travel across the state to see the Atlantic. Best Place to see the Atlantic is down in Keys, Its Beautiful especially going over the 7 mile bridge. Have you and Mr Bucky gone down there?

    • @PhyllisStokes
      @PhyllisStokes  6 років тому +1

      Whew ! Lots of questions. We have been to Key West, Fla. We are about 2 hours from Myrtle Beach and have gone there frequently especially in the Fall.
      We mostly vacation on Edisto Island, S.C., less tourist there.
      Our poodles get cooked sweet potato along side their regular food, usually about a tablespoon
      when we are having sweet potatoes with our meal. They don't get this treat very often.
      With poodles their anal gland is gently pressed out when they get a bath, very stinky business.
      Groomers take care of this too when you take them to be groomed. You must use very gentle pressure at the 8 and 4 o'clock positions. Wear gloves and be prepared for a smelly mess.

    • @glendadavid1374
      @glendadavid1374 6 років тому

      I wonder why the Vet never told me that, he just checks them and tells us to use Pumpkin as a detox for the glands. I will ask him about this the next check up. That Vet should tell me this Mrs Phyllis :( poor lil pups I am going to check them when David gets home and see if they all look normal. That's why I am Blessed to have a Mrs Phyllis :) God sure did Bless me with someone I could learn lady things from and all kinds of stuff :) Its strange but not really I know its Jesus, but I feel like I have known you all my life like you are one of my Family members. My Mother's younger Sister and you are a lot alike. I loved her Dearly, she was the best Christian Aunt, The Lord has them all Mrs Phyllis and being I'm the youngest in the Family I lost a lot of time being I am the youngest, I was a late life baby as Mother called me. God wanted me to be here for a Reason and I guess that reason is still open. Sorry so many questions but I rarely get you like today :) I had to take a chance and run with it :) Thank You!! I hope you are doing well and having a Good Day, I hope you are feeling healthy since you stopped those smoothies, I thought they were great.
