I miss Phyllis and I'm thankful for her legacy of showing even me how to make these wonderful old recipes that I grew up on. (Also, I'm always amazed at what pretty skin she had.)
Mr. Buckey was SO, SO patient waiting for a piece of that delicious apple cake. I've made this cake a couple of times. It's very moist, & very tasty. I'm really missing Mrs. Phyllis. Time is flying by. May God bless each & every person watching this video. ✝️ ♥️
I must have thought her up. I hadn't seen one of her videos in a very long time. Yesterday, she popped up on UA-cam for me. I was thinking about making her lemon pound cake. I miss her too and am so thankful that her videos remain for us to watch whenever we need to hear her wonderful, calming voice as she walks us through a delicious, down-home recipe. ❤
Ms. Phyllis just wanted to tell you I made this Apple Cake yesterday and it is delicious and better the longer it sits. Had to freeze the rest just too stop nibbling on it. Thanks Cake Queen. I give it 5 stars.
Yes, I too have that weakness. My freezer is full of my weaknesses. But at least I can pull something really good whenever I want and have that special taste again.
I sure do appreciate all your kindness an all the things you teach us. You are such a good teacher!! I love all your recipes. It means so much to me, because I have to watch in order for me to learn. its hard for me to follow directions. but you show us step by step I just love that about you. That way I know I'm doing it right an don't doubt myself. THANK YOU SO MUCH. I WISH I COULD GIVE YOU A BIG HUG.
For me , the very best part of her voice is that I've never been anxious while listening to Mrs. Phyllis. I always remain calm, & feel ALMOST as if I'm right there with her, in her kitchen! It takes a very special 'gift' to 'pull' an audience in like that. ❤
I'm making this cake, this week. Will let you all know the outcome! I LOVE apple cake. I first had it while I was in the hospital, after giving birth to my daughter in 1982. Can't wait to try this! I have been looking for a comparable recipe. I think this is it!
Patti Spencer AGREED!! I’d be the first in line to buy two copies- one for me and one for my sister- because Mrs Phyllis cooks just like our mamma did!! God Bless!!
Oh please don't use that canola oil. It was never meant for human consumption if you research its history. Its primary use is for industrial purposes. It is responsible for major inflammation in humans. There is no such thing as a canola plant; it is a genetically modified version of rapeseed plant. It got the name of canola when the Canadians refused to use it for food and sent it down to the gullible Americans, thus the name can-ola oil-oil from Canada. Check it out. There are many beautiful nut oils with health benefits to use instead.
I just found this posting, Phyllis. It's over 6 yrs old. Growing up, we called this "Apple Dapple Cake". It was my sister's favorite. I had lost the recipe, but this is it for sure. Thanks so much.
Phyllis this cake looks so good. I just found your channel, so I am trying to catch up with all of your videos. I watched the fruit cake video last night. So far, I have not been disappointed. You and your husband are a joy to watch!
Thank you for sharing your baking techniques. For having just discovered your channel, I am learning so much! You are also preserving skills that others want to learn; or discover a new interest because of your videos!
Hi Phyllis, I have been watching your videos since I discovered them last July. You look prettier in this video than I've ever seen you look! Your hair is lovely, and you look good with makeup on too! Thank you for your down-to-earth videos. Your voice and delivery is calming in a world that has gone crazy...
Just watched video on this cake and wanted to comment on two of the comments that I read below. One lady said the cake seems to turn dark and another said she had Italian heritage that added lemon zest. maybe possible to add some fresh squeezed lemon on the apples to keep cake from turning dark. Just a thought. Phyllis I think you are very gracious to take the time for all of these tutorials. Thank you, lady.
The cake is suppose to turn dark that's what gives it the very unique taste. There is an interaction between the apples and the baking soda. This cake can be aged in the refrigerator for a couple of weeks and just starts tasting even better.
Oh Phyllis!! I made this cake and it is fabulous!!!!!! I love fruit and this is the most decadent cake ever; you really can't even describe it. Live your videos. Many blessings, Melanie 😄
My mother makes a buttermilk sauce very similar to yours but hers is much thinner and it's pretty much clear. She doesn't use Karo syrup in hers. At least I don't remember her using it. She pours it on her prune cake and her carrot cake. Oh dear Dog that prune cake is to die for! Love your channel. Thanks for sharing all your recipes and tips. ❤
R. Weidman I'll have to find it. It's pretty lengthy so I'm not sure I can post it here but I will try. It's really an incredible cake and everyone requests it from her.
My mother has made this cake in the past lots of times and it is very good. She has made nearly all of the cakes you've made and posted here on UA-cam. I can't eat them like I used to on account of being gluten intolerant. And my dad can't eat them due to his diabetes, so we don't get to enjoy them like we used to do. But oh my, I do enjoy watching your recipes and I just might adjust the ingredients to make it gluten-free and sugar-free. Thanks for sharing.
KaleidoscopeMystic hey gluten issues here too. Pillsbury makes 1:1 ratio all purpose gf flour. Other companies make them too. I used it for my red velvet cake and it was perfect
Thank you Leona, I love to take this one to family and church gatherings and watch people try to figure out what's in it. They almost never guess it's APPLE.
Wow !! Ms. Phyllis, you look beautiful and your apple cake looks delicious. :D I still miss your sweet voice but I know you are so much happier in heaven, God Bless You & thank you for all you did for us. I love you. 💖 💖
I'm going to try this reciepe when I can buy the stuff ill let u know how I like it then and my 4 boys they love me to cook.my 9 year old son Emmanuel said if it has cinnamon well try your reciepe first then another add cinnamon thanks love the old reciepes my granmal says their the best
Phyllis this looks fantastic, i use a buttermilk glaze on my carrot cake, and it's amazing. I have a recipe for a cream cheese apple bunt cake with a praline icing i wonder if the buttermilk glaze would be good on it or if it would be to sweet
I'm so ready for Fall. I want to make an apple cake. This looks like a good one. It's still hot here in California. Don't want to heat up the house right now. #love fall, #love cool weather, #love the changing of the seasons, #pumpkins, #apple cider, #caramel apples, #fire place.
I usually grate my apples, but your recipe is almost identical to one I've been using for over 30 years! Oh, and I fixated on that one raisin that you finally saw, just hoping you wouldn't leave it out! ;-)
Looks so good. I want to try making it. I would turn the cake pan upside down though to catch all the delicious sauce and it would be less messy. Love your videos.
Hi Phyllis, I made your Fresh Apple Cake two days ago. My husband and I do not care for raisins, however we BOTH wanted them in this cake, after tasting the cake without them. The cake screams to us that raisins would be a terrific addition. So next time we make the cake we are putting them in there. That is big for us! Anyway, the first day, we couldn't wait and ate a piece of the cake. It was OK but not A++. However, the second day, it was beyond fabulous. It was stellar! The apples were so tender and the cake so moist and flavorful. You kind of want to sit down beside it and just look at the cake. This is going in our Black Book of Recipes and WITH the raisins. We love this cake too and you are right it's much better the second day. I also do not like raisins unless they have been softened in boiling water so they get puffed up and soft.
That looks insanely delicious! Your cake recipe is very similar to how Italian nonnas make their apple cake only they always use golden delicious apples and they add lemon zest and limoncello to the batter. Thank you for the recipe and demonstration! I'll make this as soon as our weather returns to normal. We've had two days of humid tropical weather with rain, thunder and lightning in SoCal which is unheard of. My hair barely fits through the doorway because of this awful humidity!
Hi Phyllis... I do a 'similar' cake - Italian recipe - but it takes Olive oil only, 3 eggs (smaller cake) and use a spring cake pan. Canola Oil is a very bad oil for inflammation (see Mike Adams Natural News website and search for it) in spite of decades of propaganda as a 'healthy fat'. The use of oil makes this Italian cake version I do not really dry. I like to drip the apples in lemon juice just to keep than white (and add flavor) and plump the raisins with a bit of rum or just orange juice. If have some fresh ginger at hand I add like 15 g of grated ginger (I freeze it and grind it... it is easier) By the way... love your hair 'untied and free' like that. Anyway, I love bred pudding and I'm going to try the buttermilk sauce for sure.
Miss Phyllis you are absolutely gorgeous! That cake looks delicious but sadly apples don’t agree with me. I still might make it anyway lol. I’m always thinking if you and keeping you in my prayers. Sending love to you Miss Phyllis and healing prayers.
My, wife and I have been watching you for the past month on youtube and we subscribed the first day, Last night we put your name into the search box , found Fresh Apple Cake, there you were wearing lipstick, eye makeup blush, and you beautiful hair was curled!!!!!!
+Fred Woods When I first starting making videos I thought I need to look like all the other women making cooking videos with my hair curled and some makeup. I realized I needed to be myself and not try to dress up to cook. In reality who puts makeup on to cook a meal or a cake?
+Phyllis Stokes You are a beautiful CHRISTian woman Phyllis! Just saw this video and thought? What? LOL! We love you just the way you are! Do you have any recipes for bartlett pares? A friendly neighbor gave us a bunch! God Bless!
Hi Phyllis just saw this apple cake you were making yum it looks good, just flip your cake plate over and use the side with the rim to catch all the yummy sauce instead if the flat side when you take it out of your pan, just a lil suggestion 💕😊

Hello Ms. Phyllis, I've been thinking about you and hoping that you're doing better since the loss of your dear husband, Mr. Buckey. Hang in there, please. This cake looks delicious and I can't wait to try this recipe. Keep on bringing us your wonderful recipes. Yes it looks GREAT!
I’ve made this once already and it was delicious. Going to make it again for my sister’s birthday. Was wondering if you can substitute black walnuts cup for cup?
This is going to be an all time favorite. I made it and have eaten two large servings. By the way your hair and skin are gorgeous in this video. Blessings!
Love this recipe. I will try it. I know this is off topic, would you share with us what you curl your pretty hair with? Your curls are beautiful. Thank you.
I LOVE this cake. I made it 2 days ago and it was such a hit that I made another today. I am wondering, do you measure your flour before or after sifting? Also, my first cake, I added the vanilla after the 2 minute boil on the sauce and the sauce automatically went flat. Today I added it at the beginning of the cooking stage and still, it didn't seem to foam up as much as yours. Suggestions?
Every time I watch a video from Phyllis I just miss her so badly. Thanks so much Steven for keeping her going! ❤️
I miss Phyllis and I'm thankful for her legacy of showing even me how to make these wonderful old recipes that I grew up on. (Also, I'm always amazed at what pretty skin she had.)

Made this cake on 1-20-19, so good there wasn’t enough to even put into the frig that evening. Thanks Ms. Phillis
I am watching it today for my first time, September 25, 2019. Where did those seven years go? Thumbs up with a huge hug!
I'm making this cake, this week. Will let you all know the outcome! I LOVE apple cake. I first had it while I was in the hospital, after giving birth to my daughter in 1982. Can't wait to try this! I have been looking for a comparable recipe. I think this is it!

I usually grate my apples, but your recipe is almost identical to one I've been using for over 30 years! Oh, and I fixated on that one raisin that you finally saw, just hoping you wouldn't leave it out! ;-)
Phyllis, just found your videos, tried this cake for a dinner and it was a big hit!!!! thank you from Virginia
This looks great, and I bet it's good too, Phyllis. Time-consuming though, but I'm going to try it. I'm still praying for you, Phyllis.
Looks so good. I want to try making it. I would turn the cake pan upside down though to catch all the delicious sauce and it would be less messy. Love your videos.
Your hair is beautiful ...you are a beautiful lady.watching from Northern Ireland United Kingdom.♥️♥️♥️♥️
OMG. That looks sooooo delicious. I’m going to have to make this. You are an awesome cook. 🤗👍🏻
Phillis...you didn't cut a slice for me. This is a beautiful cake and I will surely try to make it. Thank you for sharing. I love your videos.
Thank you for such a wonderful recipe. I am sad my Grandmother is not here to taste it. She would have loved it too. Hugs.
We love this cake too and you are right it's much better the second day.
I also do not like raisins unless they have been softened in boiling water so they
get puffed up and soft.
She is beautiful with or without makeup but I think I like her better without makeup. She didn't need make-up. God gave her a natural beauty
You look beautiful in this video wow very nice Phillis..I watch your videos all the time but love how your hair is tonight.. You really look nice ...
Love watching you Phyllis
Man, that’s a great cake! A must try! ♥️🙏🏼♥️
How did i miss this Ms. Phyllis? I love all your videos 😁❤ you look so pretty and that apple cake looks delicious. Have to make this.
As always Phyllis enjoy your great RECEIPES!!!!💗💕❤️😘
Hi Phyllis... I do a 'similar' cake - Italian recipe - but it takes Olive oil only, 3 eggs (smaller cake) and use a spring cake pan. Canola Oil is a very bad oil for inflammation (see Mike Adams Natural News website and search for it) in spite of decades of propaganda as a 'healthy fat'. The use of oil makes this Italian cake version I do not really dry. I like to drip the apples in lemon juice just to keep than white (and add flavor) and plump the raisins with a bit of rum or just orange juice. If have some fresh ginger at hand I add like 15 g of grated ginger (I freeze it and grind it... it is easier)
By the way... love your hair 'untied and free' like that.
Wow, Phyllis looks awesome in this video. So young looking. I miss her very much.

+Phyllis Stokes You are a beautiful CHRISTian woman Phyllis! Just saw this video and thought? What? LOL! We love you just the way you are! Do you have any recipes for bartlett pares? A friendly neighbor gave us a bunch! God Bless!
+Phyllis Stokes June Clever does! The cake just looks delish dawling!
Hi Phyllis just saw this apple cake you were making yum it looks good, just flip your cake plate over and use the side with the rim to catch all the yummy sauce instead if the flat side when you take it out of your pan, just a lil suggestion 💕😊
You are beautiful either way!

Excellent recipe! Thank you for sharing it. 😙
