Dev performed this Les Mis piece in one of his COVID lockdown streaming "concerts" (each of which was fucking inspired!) and if I remember correctly, he was using an acoustic guitar with a broken string (the only one he had at standard tuning) and it was absolutely mesmerizing! The man embodies "stage presence," and somehow makes it look so effortless. It's a fucking crime that Devy is not a household name. I'm not sure who first said it, but this is the undeniable truth: The only people that don't like Devin Townsend are the people who have never HEARD Devin Townsend.
Wow! Of course, I ain't suprised. It's a long held belief of mine that the best live performers/singers are often metal musicians, and this is a perfect example.
I remember where I was the first time I heard this song. In 1991 I had the longest hair in our high school chorale. I was the metal guy. We were in Greeley, Colorado for a high school choir competition. And the Air Force chorale was the main show. And one of the tenors sang this song. And it blew our hearts and minds away. I was desperately asking around me to all these other singers (I’m surrounded by hundreds of them!), “What the fuck is this song!!!?” I may or may not have wiped a tear. But there were enough purebreds around to let me know that is was Bring Him Home from Les Miserables. I was at peace because I knew I could hear In it again. But that tenor from the Air Force chorale. That was the most beautiful song I’d ever heard in my life as sung by him. Salute! Devin has the most beautiful metal voice I have ever heard in my life. So somehow this completes me knowing that this song touched him, too - insomuch that he brought it on tour with him
I sing with a group of men in the Rio Grande Valley of Texas, and I have a really difficult time singing this song because of my tears. Love this performance.
Thanks so much for this 💚 I was lucky enough to catch a rendition of this in March and it took me completely by surprise & blew me away (this song means a lot to me and Dev is my favourite noise-maker on the planet so to have the two unexpectedly collide was an insanely beautiful moment in time). I've found myself frequently wishing I could relive it & now I can ^_^
It's amazing that so many of us from all over the world, that don't know each other can have such similar experiences and emotions from the same performance. Music is very personal, and for so many to be touched by Dev\s version of a song that's been performed by the finest musical theater performers in the world for decades.
Incredible. Yessss
Also, the guy who's like "...Les Mis!!" like one note in. There's our metal/theatre crossover fans right there 👏💪

God I fucking love Devin Townsend.
Never take this down, please. It's so beautiful!
Oh my. What a talent. Slightly different than his metal roots, but just proof of what he can do whenever he feels like it.
A perfect testament to his sheer talent and versatility. He should be way more popular than he is.

I still want him to do a full rock opera/musical of Ziltoid the Omniscient. It would be the first rock opera I would enjoy.
try watching the Retinal Circus
That right there is why devin is such a great all round artist, amazing
I was sure he would say "Metal!" at the end.
Wow. That was legitimately excellent. Colm would be proud.
What a gem.
