Hi guys merry Christmas if you want to eat the real thing you should go to a local bakery and take from there kourambiedes, melomakarona, diples and xerotigana ( the round ones with the honey and the walnuts). Xerotigana is deep fried dough that after you dip them in honey syrup.
9:32 this is called xerotigano aka ξεροτήγανο in Greek. It is a cretan traditional sweet and yes it is given in the weddings. It is like diples but made another way. It is actually a fried thin layer of dough.
Wow you guys look at this weather!!! What a blessing in December to have tshirts, the beach....and melted chocolate 😂😂 they all look delicious and for me it doesn't matter that you bought supermarket treats for now!! You still tried them and have integrated into society :) my wife and I will make melomakarona too!! Wish us luck haha. Also I agree that you should try vasilopita for new years eve!! It is very easy to make. You can read about the story of it online. New years is bigger in Greece than Christmas!! Also Raul - one time my yiayia made fresh bread soaked so much in honey!! A very Greek thing and I would love to see your reaction to it!! Haha. Well done you guys!! You show the delicious food and priceless Greek culture so well!! Merry Christmas and thank you for all of your amazing work this year sharing your Greek experience with us!! 💙🇬🇷💙🇬🇷
Your videos are very nice Surely there are many more and every part of Greece has its own. you have to try also this Γεμιστή βασιλόπιτα τσουρέκι and try to find it from bakery
Hi guys! Your videos are always so nice and funny! To be honest, the only true traditional christmas treats you tasted were kourabiedes and melomakarona. You can find them in every house in Greece during christmas festivities. Keep in mind that in different places you can find slightly different treats based on these. Diples, although is my favourite, I would not consider it as "strictly" traditional christmas treat. You can find this treat all year round, mostly on special occasions or events. Also marzipan has nothing to do with traditional greek sweets actually. Make kourabiedes yourselves! It's easy and also you can keep some without covering them with icing sugar for Raul. By the way I were in Romania last week, you are from there right? You have to try also Vasilopita. It's a cake type treat, that's served on New Year's Eve or on January 1st. It can be sweet or sour depending on the region. It's not something that you have never tasted before but it's the definition of traditional new year's treat.
Hey guys. Diples and Xerotigana are essentially the same thing. I think the difference is that diples contain eggs. It is essentially fried dough (similar to canoli), which is then dressed with honey and nuts.
Melomakarona and kourabiedes are the two traditional Christmas sweets. Greeks are usually divided into the melomakarona lovers and the kourabiedes lovers. As others have said best to buy them from a bakery. A couple of years ago my ex gf bought melomakarona from every bakery in Chania to find the best ones 😂 They are also a lot of fun to make at home
Hey guys ! The most traditional xmas sweets in Greece are melomakarona, kourampiedes and diples for the most of us. Everything else it depends from the place and some of the sweets you had are just supermarket sweets in xmas versions :D Although in Crete they have different things in some supermarkets. In general it would be better to buy from a local bakery sweets and food, for better quality and more authentic experience !!
As the previous said , you should eat melomakarona - kourampiedes and diples from a good bakery. But guys if you keep making videos where you're tasting sweets, drinks etc, you'll gain 20kg by summer 🤣
Hi friends! Kourambiedes, melomakarona, bakalvas and diples are the Christmas sweets in Greece. Of course, there is also Vasilopita, which me bake at New Year's Eve. You have to try all of them homemade. There you would know all the flavours. Season's greetings!
Hi guys, I believe that you have to try from bakery a real Christmas sweets are much better from super markets. Trust me guys. I wish Merry Christmas 🎅 P.S your videos as always are amazing 👏
Two are the main traditional Christmas sweets in Greece, namely melomakarona and kourampiedes. These two are so popular that we have two categories of people, those who prefer melomakarona and those who prefer kourampiedes - on this video we saw a melomakarona and a kourampiedes guy. Diples are also a traditional Christmas sweet... or something (in some places they are also being served in weddings), but in order to appreciate the simplicity of this treat you need to try it really fresh... or something. EDIT most of the other things you tried are not really traditional sweets or Greek even. Xerotigana are Greek (the ones you didnt remembered the name) but they're not Christmas sweets.
I love Christmas treats. Melomakarona should have a strong orange-taste, some make them with brandy. Diples dont melt because they have baking soda, just like Touloumbes. And yes, I know about the other comments, but im not totalitarian, supermarket treats are not always that bad, and I eat very healthy most of the time. My favourite video moment was: 7:22 😄👌🏻
There is a big difference between freshly made curabie and melomakarona and a usually not that fresh from a supermarket. Therefore everyone suggesting getting them from a bakery or even better making them yourself at home. A fresh melomakarono from the oven melts in your mouth.
A bakery is a φούρνος i.e. a shop that mainly sells bread. For sweets you need to find a zacharoplasteio - indeed one that makes their sweets themselves, on-site, instead of just selling them.
Guys you know I love you. Don't buy melomakarona from the super market, not even from a bakery. Instead just ask a local neighbour you know to point you to the zacharoplasteio he gets his melomakarona from. In fact it wouldn't hurt if you ask 2 or 3 neighbors what is the best zacharoplasteio in the area - and go get your melomakarona from that one. This way you'll make sure they are fresh, but also, don't forget that zacharoplastiki (i.e. the making of sweets) is kind of an art, and not everybody are good at it! Merry christmas guys!
Merry Christmas Geo 🎅 🎄. For the purpose of this video, this was the best way of trying all sweets. We will try to make and bake some of them to see how they taste home made 😋
friendly advice...next time take the same things from bakery or patissery ...no need to get a box of each, just few pieces ...and u will see the difference..and u will feel it too...ofc more expensive but...u will understand.
The kourabiedes and melomakarona are the main Greek Christmas treats. The other ones, Florentines and macaroons, baklava, are pretty much international or they are not Christmas themed. I like the melomakarona more than the kourabiedes.
If it was similar to gingerbread then it's not a melomakarono. I'd like to see both of you try cook either kourampiedes, melomakarona or diples together.
you were afraid to touch the qurabiya with your hands at the begging, but then you eventually tried it and now with a ranking of 9 you will never in your life be afraid again to touch a qurabiya.
Excuse me you want to the beach in December? 😂 Plus you wanted the traditional staff but you went and bought everything packaged in plastic from the super market?

Pre packaged desserts are the worse in terms of ingredients. And they taste bad, because they have grease inside instead of olive oil or at least butter. Check the labels if you dont believe me.

We should definitely try that next time 🤍💙🤍💙🤍
