Yes exactly that. 7days hazelnut or millefeuille was a very big thing in the nineties. And generally speaking until 15 years ago, give or take, we only had a "basic" selection of croissants, hazelnut or marmalade filing. Regardless of the brand.
There are so many Greek sweets and snacks, where to begin. you did the submarine the correct way, but the classic one is the vanilla flavor. Masticha is a unique flavor, made from tree saps , that only grows in half of the island of chios. Nowhere else in the world. Japan has tried to imitate the same environment , but the trees never grew the special sap. It is used for gum and sweets, health products , and in easter you will try a Greek sweet pastry called tsoureki that has mastiha. anyways, keep on trying more stuff, and show some bakery treats as well!
Thank you for the explanation! Very interesting! We'll have to try it again with vanilla this time😅. I'm sure we'll like it more. We'll have to try some bakery treats for sure! It's on the list. Thank you for the suggestion!🙏💙 What are some treats that we shouldn't miss from the bakery?
about the submarine i think the reason you submerge it in water is to soften it because its kind of hard to eat it raw adding it to water make it more like paste
break is supposed to open by breaking the chocolate inside in half following the fold line of the wrapper and it would open like a pouch along that line
I love this kind of videos, your food videos are my favourite! Also an idea for future videos: "Make greek desserts". I know Raul is probably trying to diet though :P
Thank God it's winter! 😂😂You won't see us in swimming suits for a while so it's the perfect time for food testing!🤣 Thank you for the feedback! And for the suggestion, it's a great idea! 💙
@@Sunpire You should try "trigona panoramatos", "karidopita" (wallnut pie which is mostly a winter dessert), "tsoureki" and of course since we are approaching Christmas try the 2 main very famous christmas desserts called "melomakarona" and "kourampiedes"
Lol guys i was responsible for the submarine suggestion 😂. The original taste is vanilla. You chose masticha ,which is a tree grown only in the island of Chios and many products come from it, either edible or not. So i guess you don't like masticha flavour, but if you want to try the "submarine" again try vanilla. You did the process right, you get a big spoon ,let it sit in the water and slowly eat it from the spoon
It was definitely interesting to try! 😂 so this was the thing then, I knew we messed up something 😅 we would've enjoyed vanilla more for sure! I guess we thought this was the original flavour, which we're clearly not big fans of😂. Raul did say that it tastes like plants, haha. It was the first time we tried this flavour. So, what is the purpose of the water in this process?🤔 and do you drink it?
@Sunpire no, you don't have to drink the water,it still takes the same anyway. I drank it anyway because after the sweet taste of vanilla i wanted water. I am not sure how dipping vanilla in water helps the flavour, i am sure there is an explanation.
@@Sunpire The water needs to be cold. You sink it for a bit and then you treat it like a lollipop. There is also vanilla with strawberry or rose versions, but they're rare to find
This is very traditional, way before there was chocolate available for the masses in Greece. It is more of a summer delicacy, the water the colder the better. The paste is made from masticha, the resin from masticha tree in the pine family and which is the base for gum. Vanilla is the default, but more sweet. You dip it into the ice cold water to remain firm in the heat, lick it or eat it in small bites like a lollipop and drink the water to counter the sweetness in the heat. A favourite of mine ( my wife likes the bitter almond flavour as well), I don't believe you would have like it because it is too sweet and sticks in your teeth. Team almonds huzzah!!!!
We have a part one of this video where we've tried plain Lacta and it is very good 💙🤍💙🤍. Ion with stevia sounds interesting and will be in our next video. Do you know any weird flavours for sweets or snacks?
Another great video! As for croissants try to find Choco Big from Fresh Snack company. It's an enormous 250gr croissant with ION praline filling. And a tip! When you're at home try the croissant in a toaster. You'll love a hot flat croissant 😉
Yes, there is an Ion chocolate with whole almonds , it's in a white and brown packaging. Definitely try the Jumbo country chips by Ohonos Snacks. Nothing but tasty salted chips cooked in sunflower oil and that's it. Regarding croissants etc, anything by Stergiou would not dissapoint 😀
Actually, the whole ritual with BREAK is that you have to open it by snapping it in the middle. The package opens at the middle and you "break" (guess how it got its name) the chocolate in two to share!
Masticha comes from masticha trees you can only find in the Greek island of Hios Its chewy we can eat it as chewing gum . Thats the special flavor in vanilla under water
The 'submarine' you bought is a bit special. You should have bought the one that said vanilla without the mastiha flavor. Mastiha is something than is only used in Greece, you get it from a special tree that grows around the Mediterranean in all the countries, from Greece to Morocco, I think, but they don't have it in their cuisine. Maybe it's a different variation of the tree but in Greece it only grows in one island, Chios, and only on the northern part of it. The most common use is to make chewing gum with it and because it was one of the first chewing gums in our country, the translation of chewing gum in Greek is 'mastiha'. Then we make oil from it, very very expensive oil from it, which you literally use by drops. You put one drop of its oil in 1.5 L of water and you can eat anything with garlic. If you drink the mastiha water after it your stomach is settled and your breath doesn't smell bad at all. Some experienced moms that like the taste, make cookies with the solid form of it after they make it dust in a mortar. And finally, we have a very good liqueur made from mastiha. If you like sweet alcohol and the taste of mastiha, it is heaven on earth. If not, I don't recommend it. But, yeah, these are the main uses of mastiha. And yes there is ION with whole almonds in it. It's cover is white with a bit of brown on the one side of the chocolate package. Great video as always!
About your our final taste test...I have only heard of this while in Greece...it is an ingredient in my face cream 😂 it comes from the mastic tree found in Chios, Greece
Thanks for watching and the recommendations!🙏💙 I think we'll like these ones, I really liked milka with strawberry filling! The chocolate drops are the mini croissants? Or is it a different one?
try junbo blyk pepper ant salt foudounia ( φουντούνια ) fofio( φοφίκο) and sweets lacta crem , cookies (lacta/medenda) little chocolate noisetta ant chocolata amaretto( ion ) and try again Caprice frozen
Don't worry, everything went great with the preparation for the "submarine"!😆 There are just many different flavors you can try, such as vanilia. Also, some people do drink the water as after some time it has a bit of a sweet taste!
@@Sunpire Unfortunately, there isn't :/ But, if you want to try something sweet with eggplant in it you can search for "γλυκό του κουταλιού μελιτζανάκι", meaning dessert of the spoon made from eggplant. This kind of sweets are usually made from different fruits and syrup, which makes it very sweet, combined in a jar.
Next time you should really try some other croissants and some very popular biscuits or cookies. I would really recommend two croissants, both from the same company, called "7days", one called "hazelnut" and the other with apple and cinnamon called "strudel" (green packaging). As for the biscuits, I would recommend the one from PAPADOPOULOS with 4 cereals and muesli (purple packaging). Lastly, the cookies from "ΒΙΟΛΑΝΤΑ", a very famous company, are THE BEST, but I would say you should really buy the ones filled with hazelnut praline! :)
Thank you very much for watching us and for taking the time to leave a comment 💙💙🙏🤗. We will definitely try them in another video. Do you know any weird falvours for sweets or snacks that we can try?
You just tasted 1% of the chocolates in Greece! We have dozens of different flavours from the big brands and many more from smaller, local brands! Welcome to Sweetland!
@@Sunpire I really cannot choose one. Each one is for a different time of the day and for different beverage (or different food that you already have had). For example, if you have drunk too much, sokofreta (or any chocolate with waffles) is a no, as well as dark chocolate. You need milk chocolate, preferably without nuts, not to get choked! 😅
I like the Pavlidis first, then the almond ION chocolate. The best croisant is the Champion brand. My favorite sweet of all you had is the Masticha submarine
@@Sunpire I think it's 40 or 50% dark chocolate, but they have a bitter 70% black version as well. The blue Pavlidis with Orange is my favorite. A more weird snack would be Foudounia (by Tasty or Jumbo) or Fofico (by Hohonos). I love them both. Also a must is Sour cream and Black Pepper whole wheat Chips (by Lay's). Also anything by Rice Up or Healthy Habits brands. And Cream Crackers (by Papadopoulou) From more weird sweets I'd try Greek Halva (ask about it) Moustokouloura (ask about it) Serano chocolate from ION, Caprice by Papadopoulou, Derby sweet snack with rice, dark chocolate and coconut, Bounty with coconut Also Pti Ber with dark chocolate by Papadopoulou (the whole wheat version). Finally Miranda by Papadopoulou which is the best biscuit for cofee or milk. And since Christmass is coming at some point, go to a sweet shop and ask for Kourambie and melomakarona. I'm sure you'll be suprised by both.
A cultural insight you missed is the guy suggesting you tried Milko with a cheesepie for breakfast. It's a kindof-timeless Greek joke that if you combine the two, you get diarrhea. So many take it up a notch adding "and then smoke a cigarette", which implies you won't even make it to the bathroom. That being said, it has never happened to me haha
Hi For me the best Greek chocolate since i was kid was the ION. 200 gr with whole almond's....I am already 58 yo and never find better chocolate.... Do not try industrial glyka tu koutaliu, (spoon sweets), or you will be permanently put off and you will unfortunately miss one of the greatest traditional delicacies of Greece. But do try them when they are home made. These are fruit or baby-vegetable preserves in syrup, served with afternoon coffee when friends and relatives come over to say hello. You may also be treated with them when visiting a monastery. My favorites are: sour cherry (similar to the Italian amarena), walnut, aubergine, bitter orange (nerandji), or fig. In the island of Kos, you will find their traditional tomato sweet. In the Apeiranthos village of Naxos, you will find a restaurant with excellent dishes and an incredible collection of home made spoon sweets, alone justifying a trip to the island.
Try Papadopoulou petit beure with chocolate on top and put them in the fridge to cool a bit. Then caprice are great, in the fridge also and pavlidis the normal chocolate is great. I don't like lacta you can taste the sugar in it... As for drinks gerani are great but from the glass bottle. I think some years ago it was more fuzzy though.

About submarine desert ...you have done nothing wrong. In the old days that Greek families have not many choices for deserts they use this as a desert especially for kids.
Thank you for the suggestion!🙏💙
What are some treats that we shouldn't miss from the bakery?
@@Sunpire You should try tsoureki, bougatsa with cream or cheese, spanakopita and other kind of pies.
about the submarine i think the reason you submerge it in water is to soften it because its kind of hard to eat it raw adding it to water make it more like paste
Thank you for watching and for the explanation 😊 do you have any suggestions for Christmas sweets or desserts we shouldn't miss? Thank you!🙏
@@Sunpire For Christmass in Greece we eat melomakarona and courampiedes. You should try them.
Lays στο φουρνο! The classic salt one! The best!
break is supposed to open by breaking the chocolate inside in half following the fold line of the wrapper and it would open like a pouch along that line
Thank you, we didn’t know this. We will try this technique in the next video 💙🤍🤗
the better lacta you can buy is............ION WITH ALMONDS🤣🤣
🤣🤣🤣 good one
Should I ask which ION is your favourite?😂
My favorite is chocolate cigars CAPRICE!
Caprice is great 🤍💙🤍💙. We will try hazzlenuts, vanilla and coffe caprice next time.
I love this kind of videos, your food videos are my favourite! Also an idea for future videos: "Make greek desserts". I know Raul is probably trying to diet though :P
Thank God it's winter! 😂😂You won't see us in swimming suits for a while so it's the perfect time for food testing!🤣
Thank you for the feedback! And for the suggestion, it's a great idea! 💙
If you have any favourite desserts please drop them here🙏🏻
@@Sunpire You should try "trigona panoramatos", "karidopita" (wallnut pie which is mostly a winter dessert), "tsoureki" and of course since we are approaching Christmas try the 2 main very famous christmas desserts called "melomakarona" and "kourampiedes"
Thank you! We'll add them to the list!🙏❤️
I thought there was some chemical reaction going on between the vanilla paste and the water or something like that😂
Maybe it's just to cool it 🤔
@@Sunpire The water needs to be cold.
Try plain milk lacta. For me is the best. Also try ION with hazelnuts and stevia (no sugar and the best taste from all).
This sounds 🤤🤤🤤
Thank you for watching! 🙏💙
Do you guys have any Christmas sweets we shouldn't miss?
the best croissant ever end is a company from crete
@@Sunpire yes there are some. Melomakarona and kourampiedes are the most popular Christmas sweets.
Every time I'm going in Greece I'm coming back with a bag full of Greek sweets 😅
Kiss , lilla pause, derby, sokofreta lacta, amareti and more exist since at least 40-50 years since i was a kid, i grew up with it
I enjoyed this video so much😊 You need to make more snack tasting. You're great❤
Thank you, we will
the kiss before 15 years was amazing .. i try the last month again but the size was smaller and the taste was like rubber with strawberry very bad
We can imagine everything changed in that long of a period of time. Do they have other products, or is it just Kiss?
I ate kiss as a kid and then tasted again recently and I was like wtf happened, glad I'm not the only one
@@SunpireIt's the same company that makes the chocolate with the blue packaging, but it was bough by the multinational Mondelez several years ago
i agree. kiss was so much better years ago. it was one of the best
Kiss is a complete different product now. Just the packaging is the same. It don't like it anymore. 😑
Actually, the whole ritual with BREAK is that you have to open it by snapping it in the middle. The package opens at the middle and you "break" (guess how it got its name) the chocolate in two to share!
Ohhhh, really interesting. It makes sense, we need to try it next time 💙🤗
@@Sunpire absolutely!
I am from Greece 🇬🇷 😊😊😊❤❤❤

The vanilla in water exists as far as i know at least since the '50s
Hey! Christmas is coming. The time of melomakarona and kourabiedes. Don't make the mistake not to try them!
Thank you very much, we will make sure there will be a video where we make this Christams desserts 💙🤗🤍
About your our final taste test...I have only heard of this while in Greece...it is an ingredient in my face cream 😂 it comes from the mastic tree found in Chios, Greece
Wait what? What do you mean in your face cream ? 😂😂
From what I have learned ,mastic is used in many applications. I must say I like I like the skin cream I bought recently
I think next you should try the chocolate drops croissant from 7 days, also my favourite lacta is the strawberry flavored one.
Thanks for watching and the recommendations!🙏💙
I think we'll like these ones, I really liked milka with strawberry filling!
The chocolate drops are the mini croissants? Or is it a different one?
Yes, we have green, blue, red and pink cola, in Greece, but we don't share with foreigners!
But this is not Coca-Cola right? It's a different brand
@@Sunpire Absolutely. The company is Greek and is called Green Cola Hellas. You can also find other Colas, from Krinos and EPSA companies.
That's very interesting! I was sure it was just a different kind of Coca-Cola ! We'll try some of them next time.
Bravo Raul for caching chocolate in the air!!
When it comes to chocolate, I am the real Spiderman 😂😂😂😂😂😂
For sure you should try the chips Lays στο φουρνο (baked in the oven) and especially the yoghurt and herbs flavour
try junbo blyk pepper ant salt foudounia ( φουντούνια ) fofio( φοφίκο) and sweets lacta crem , cookies (lacta/medenda) little chocolate noisetta ant chocolata amaretto( ion ) and try again Caprice frozen

1.Lacta big time peanut caramel
2.Pavlidis dark chocolate 70% cocoa, caramelized almonds with salt
Thank you very much 🤍💙🤍💙, we will try them in another video. How about some weird flavours from sweets and snack that we should try?
I love ION chocolates. I grew up with them.
ION is amazing 💙🤍
As a student I lived on rum & raisin chocolate. But now I avoid all junk "food" and soft "drinks".
It's better to avoid them!😊 do you have any dessert that reminds you about Christmas?
My father works there in green call off😅❤❤
👍🏻👍🏻
My favourite chocolates is Lacta with Oreo not the sandwich. And the best chips in my opinion are the lays with sour cream like tzatziki
Don't worry, everything went great with the preparation for the "submarine"!😆 There are just many different flavors you can try, such as vanilia. Also, some people do drink the water as after some time it has a bit of a sweet taste!
Thank you very much for watching us and for taking the time to leave a comment 💙💙🙏🤗. Is there an eggplant flavour one?
@@Sunpire Unfortunately, there isn't :/ But, if you want to try something sweet with eggplant in it you can search for "γλυκό του κουταλιού μελιτζανάκι", meaning dessert of the spoon made from eggplant. This kind of sweets are usually made from different fruits and syrup, which makes it very sweet, combined in a jar.
Do you know any weird flavours for sweets that we can try?
It's green because it has stevia instead of sugar.
Niiiice. So it's the healthy version of cola 💙🤍💙🤍
Great, just give us some time, and we will quickly climb up to 30% . In one year, we will be chocolate experts 😂😂😂. What is your favourite one?
@@Sunpire I really cannot choose one. Each one is for a different time of the day and for different beverage (or different food that you already have had). For example, if you have drunk too much, sokofreta (or any chocolate with waffles) is a no, as well as dark chocolate. You need milk chocolate, preferably without nuts, not to get choked! 😅
So if you dink, raki will go great with pure milk chocolate 😂😂
@@Sunpire NO! Not after raki!! 🤣
Ok, so for raki there is a different one😂
I like the Pavlidis first, then the almond ION chocolate. The best croisant is the Champion brand. My favorite sweet of all you had is the Masticha submarine
Great, is Pavlodis that we had, a dark chocolate? And do you know any weird tasting sweets or snacks that we can try? Thank you
@@Sunpire I think it's 40 or 50% dark chocolate, but they have a bitter 70% black version as well.
And Cream Crackers (by Papadopoulou)
From more weird sweets I'd try
Greek Halva (ask about it)
Moustokouloura (ask about it)
Serano chocolate from ION,
Caprice by Papadopoulou,
Derby sweet snack with rice, dark chocolate and coconut,
Bounty with coconut
Also Pti Ber with dark chocolate by Papadopoulou (the whole wheat version).
Finally Miranda by Papadopoulou which is the best biscuit for cofee or milk.
And since Christmass is coming at some point, go to a sweet shop and ask for Kourambie and melomakarona. I'm sure you'll be suprised by both.
Thank you very much for all your recommendations, we will make a video about trying weird sweets 😂😂
Hi you two we have not heard from you in a week, we hope all is well if you need anything we are still here in Heraklion and can help in anyway ❤
You can try (if you can find it in the stores) chocolate milk named koukaki......the taste is like chocolate milkshake
We'll have a look! Is it like Milko? In the fridge section?
Thank you 😊!
@Sunpire yes is in the fridge section
Hi
For me the best Greek chocolate since i was kid was the ION. 200 gr with whole almond's....I am already 58 yo and never find better chocolate....
But i must admit that i have a Lidl near me and the dark 200 gr chocolates with whole almonds or hazel are very good too...
And one milk chocolate,300 gr with whole hazels are nice too...
Hello!😊 I love chocolate with whole hazelnuts! One of the best kind🤤 We'll have to try the ones you mentioned.
Do you have any suggestions for Christmas sweets/ desserts we should try?🤔
@@Sunpire the most traditional greek dessert for Christmas was always the " melomakarona" when i was young every woman make homemade melomakarona for Christmas.... Today you can found it in all bakery 🧁 stores....
Another traditional desert for Christmas was the "dimples" and of course the " backava " ( with almonds or nuts)and "kurabiedes" ...
Very interesting, thank you for this 🤍💙🤍💙. Now we are really curious to try the aubergine one 😂😂. Have you ever tried it?
@@Sunpire Yes, baby aubergine is very delicious but extremely rare.
🙏🙏💙🤍 How about the Petit beure with cocoa powder? And do you need to put Caprice in to the freezer if it is winter?
@ the classic are great 😉. Imagine some put caprice even in the refrigerator, as ice cream.
Classic Pavlidis chocolate (the blue one with the premium package 😅) is dark chocolate. The one with the black package is just darker
So Raul was right 😅 it is a dark chocolate. We'll have to try the darker one too.

you ate correctly the submarine . But this is more like kid sweet. it has Mastic which has a strong taste and either you like it a lot or not at all. Use mainly in liqueurs, candies and Greek cocktails. Mastic is like tears that comes out of the trees, which trees you find only on the island with name Chios. Nowhere else in the world
For us, it's not bad, and it's not good now that we know all this info, but it's impressive that this tree is found only in Chios island 💙🤍💙🤍

Your videos are very funny and entertaining. Lets make them informative as well. The fanta like drink it's called Gerani (Γεράνι), it's the name of a flower. The Green cola, it's called "green" because it has stevia as a sweetener. The dark chocolate you had is called Pavlidis and is the oldest brand in Greece. With the "submarine" you didn't mess up. You just got the one with the weirdest taste. Masticha is a resin that is used as a natural chewing gum as well as an aromatic essence in greek desserts. Next time get the plain vanilla one. It's a type of dessert that all Greeks over 40 had every summer. Have fun guys!

About submarine desert ...you have done nothing wrong. In the old days that Greek families have not many choices for deserts they use this as a desert especially for kids. Usually the flavor was vanilla.....not mastixa. This is probably the wired staff you have taste. Because mastixa is the rising coming from a tree that exists only in the Chios island. If you haven’t taste it before it is a little bit wired. Perhaps the next time you will choose the vanilla one. But not expect something exotic. Is just a simple sweat desert.
