- Van tour of a custom built DIY camper conversion in a Dodge Promaster van. This Vanlife couple built their Vanlife dream van over 3 months of hard work. I’ve been seriously thinking of doing Van life full time. I’m almost 65 and have so much junk that I don’t want my kids to have to deal with it when I’m gone. I recently went home to northern Maine to be with my mom in her last days. I was cleaning out her stuff and that clinched it for me not do that to my kids. I drove cross country and camped out along the way. I went to places I never would have been able to do. I fell in love with being on the road and don’t want to waste anymore time. I love your van and was thrilled to hear you share my same feelings. 🥰
I noticed the same thing. People retiring from where I worked and within two years they were gone. I decided not to do the "sensible" thing anymore. Someday is my right now. The best to both of you.

I'm 73, so really like your eye level frig. Most put frig so low you have to kneel on floor to look in, unless it has drawers.

OMG.....I love your idea of using a tool chest in the kitchen. Fabulous idea and it locks up tight. Rob, you and your brother did a wonderful job. You planned well with plenty of water, electricity, solar, and on it goes. I would feel very safe boondocking with this great build. Also, I agree with you both about waiting to go for this life of freedom until everything "falls into place" for you. Because as you said. It never falls into place and you never get to fulfill your dream. I am very happy for you that you're doing your "thing". Have a great journey and I pray that you stay well and safe.👍🌲🎥
wow I love the hooks, an the curtains,an the fridge, the queen bed an the tool chest! The more I hear about van life, an everyones stories, it makes me really want todo this! My sons in school, an after he graduates Id love to buy a van an Diy it!

Wonderful couple! I'm no expert, but this is the best van build I've seen, of probably 50. I love the features like the outdoor sofa pillows, curtain knobs, the paper towel holder, and the pot filler. Beautiful wood ceiling, too. Best wishes and prayers for good health from Florida!
P.S. My dad was a train guy, too, and he built a 1970's Step-Van camper.

My Dad was an engineer for SP&S ..
During WW2 he laid track for Pattons soldiers! He retired from Burlington Northern RR in 1969.

Life is short. We are trying to do the same thing. I'm not retired yet and have no home to sell but doing it on our pace. My partner had cancer twice so we would like to travel too. Of course not too far from hospitals at this time.

Wonderful couple! I love the build. Hearing them explain why they decided to do van life gives me even more confirmation that these are the types of people that are my people with the mindset they have. I need to make this lifestyle mine. I love their mentality on living this lifestyle.

@@casual454t1 try looking up Rocker Guard Spray or Rubberized Rock Guard Spray. Those choices come up when I Google Rock Guard. We purchased ours at Canadian Tire in Canada. Hope that helps! 😊

Thank you for a tour of your van, it's great. But what you shared towards the end of the clip is so spot on. You have to live for today and not put off till tomorrow because we are not guaranteed a tomorrow. We, too, had 2 health scares with my husband that gave him a wakeup call that made him stop putting traveling off. All is well with him now. And yes, I totally get the Kardashian comparison and agree that they would be lost in normal people's lives, let alone van life, 😂. Happy travels!

They're a cute couple. I love their ability to not talk over one another and that knob curtain system is genius. I hope they're doing well. Huh never seen a diverter potty before either. Think that's the best place for the toilet though. Nicely private and easy to get up and down.
Love the tongue and groove on your ceiling, and really love your sink and wood top wow all have water at least keep you going awhile

One of my favorite van layouts so far. Very nice and homey. Most of these online tours never tell me how long the van is and that would be helpful for me. Also, a topic that never seems to be brought up is although we've gotten rid of the bricks and mortar handcuffs, Vans depreciate rather than appreciate like a house does. So what do full-time van livers do after 10 or 15 years goes by and it starts to wear out. Is it financially feasible to get a new van every 10 years or so?

This will be great once you have a way to take a shower. Some run the kitchen faucet out of the window and use a shower curtain made for that experience. The colors will come together once you guys decide which to use where. It will come. You are off to a super start and be proud.
