I'm an Aussie in USA & a few months ago I bought the AR-5RM version which can be "Factory Unlocked",... I'm pretty happy with the Radio but hate the screen. I'm turning my AR-5RM Radio into a cheap, removeable 10 watt Car Setup,... Belt Clip Mount, Hand Mic, Type C charging & I have ordered a 3 inch Magnetic Mount Antenna base with SMA Male fitting so all my common, cheap but very useable Antennas can go from Mag Mount Car Antenna back directly to the Radio if I want to carry the Radio outside the Car ! I will simply disconnect charge cable, take Antenna from car mount & put it back on Radio & I am set ;)
If they could ever filter out the harmonics, these are decent budget radios. Audio sounded just fine (on all 4 frequencies that you transmit on!). Good job, mate.
They would have to use decent components and board designs and then they wouldn't have the same price. Just buy a Yaesu FT-4X if you want something more serious
Baofeng has the UHF band under control. Most likely from having to meet GMRS specs. They certainly need to put a little more effort into VHF to make it a usable product.
You can't due to the chip that is in it. The uv-5rm you can. Trust me I know how you feel . It's frustrating. I have several different radios and it seems like the best one that I have is my K5 Plus you can talk on all bands with it without having to unlock it.
@HamRadioDX I found the same thing on mine after I bought a TinySA. Had I known the radio was like that before I bought it, I would have passed and bought something else. This will be my last Baofeng just because of their poor quality control and cost cutting.
Personally I don't trust my Tiny SA when it comes to the -16 dBm. I have compared it against a few of my radios that have passed on much more expensive equipment and according to the Tiny SA they would fail that test. A few people have mentioned this, that you pay for precision when it comes to calibration and being that the Tiny SA is a relatively inexpensive unit, you can't necessarily take it as 100% accurate. On mine, if I see it hovering just a bit below 0 dBm, that's -16dBm on a more reliable spectrum analyzer. So for the most part, I go by the -40dB down from the fundamental, but if I see a harmonic above 0dBm, that's a fail. Most of my radios have passed but a few (TD-H3) failed even on the -40dB down from the fundamental on the Tiny SA. My Tiny SA was not a knockoff either, I bought it from a trusted seller on Amazon and have also updated the firmware successfully.
If you filter out all harmonicsn the radio wouldnt work on the bands that they do, filtering costs a lot! If you are THAT concerned, dont buy these and go buy a $500.00 radio.
While a tiny SA is a great little device (for the price, I reckon every amateur should own one), it isn't a lab quality instrument and can sometimes give quite misleading results. When doing tests such as this, it's good practice to filter the (much higher level) fundamental because it can skew results. The front end of the tiny SA is a long way from lab quality. Those harmonics certainly point to a serious problem but I would like to see the UV-5RM on my Siglent analyser before completely condemning it. Interesingly, I put a club members UV-5G on the Siglent and the results were very good. Vastly better than my dismal Ailunce HD1 and well within spec.
The UV-5G is clean in tests. It’s a common thing with these radios, they offer not filtering of VHF, but UHF is fine. I suspect they struggle to figure out how to switch in and out appropriate low pass filters.
Bro the Quansheng's are sick. I have 6 of them, changed few buttons, shells with different colour screens for a bit of fun. The modded even more fun for free.
Mine is same radio, named BF-5RH and has white on black background, except for the RSSI Which is red. looks very smart. Not sure why some people have the red display. personally i don't think its as nice.
I believe you said you cannot program it manually if that's what you said that is not true you can program it manually and it is Bluetooth compatible with the plug-in Bluetooth.
The small red Menu text is completely invisible in daylight outdoors....So any adjustments need to be in a dark room! Who ever thought you may need to change a menu setting on a "walkie talkie" outside! 🤨
The GMRS radios I bought had a feature to push the transmit and turn it on and it gives option for GMRS, HAM, ALL I think it was ptt and star and turn on and select the mode I was really happy with it Does vhf, 222, air AM and 350-400, 380 - 420 and 420-500 And there is a expanded firmware hack to give 20 mhz to 1.3 ghz
I tried that combo of buttons on both the UV-5G and UV-5RM Plus and all it does is says “on” and the frequency locks onto 400 MHz with the squelch open. The expanded firmware I’m yet to play with. It appears there is a few different versions of this radio, one with the BK4819 chip.. I think mine is stamped 6818. So not sure exactly what the firmware does on this unit yet
They all are Einstein. All of the color screens wash out in the sun. Put your hand over or turn away from the sun like the millions of others who figured that out already.
@@davegarth We get it, you've got a boner against the cheap Chinese radios. However, people wanted the color screens and the Baofeng folks responded. Sunlight washout is an issue that has plagued not just HT's but laptops as well for years. The simple solution is to move out of the sunlight or cover the screen with your hand. How fuckig retarded are you? Oh, I see.....
Just why are you so focused on the harmonics when at 30 to 50 feet there are undetectable? GOD EVEN THE FCC DONT GIVE A SHIT WHY DO YOU? JUST SEND ME THE RADIOS THAT YOU DONT APROVE OF AND I WILL USE THEM. I NORMALLY LIKE YOUR VIDEOS BUT IT SEEMS THAT EVERYONE IS POSESSED WITH HARMONICS. I JUST GIVES THEM A REASON TO WASTE TIME ON UA-cam JUST TO ADD TO THE MONEY THAT THEY COLLECT FROM GOOGLE
Do uall realize those harmonics are for "Agencies" to monitor your comms. Its mandatory for import agreement. So if you're using the scramble tonhide your conversation... Scramble only affects the main frequency not the bleeding harmonics. 31u ....coms specialist 😊
@@HamRadioDX The red menu is such a disgusting oversight by engineering team that I almost sent them back in spite of them. Not sure what they were thinking with they put red/black as the menu. You can't see the menu outside.

Yeah it’s a shame, the audio actually does sound mint 👌 on them. Thanks Jim

Found one for 20 bucks on Amazon so I figured it would be with it at least as a backup for my BF-F8 handheld.
U have to unlock it, and then use the chirp program
I use the torch on my Baofeng more than i use the PTT.
😂🔦
So.
Wow those harmonics were a touch on the nuts side.
Nothing like trying to sound like you know what your talking about when nobody cares eh 😆
Im saying it right now... Quansheng is going to kill Baofeng. The new Quansheng radios are awesome in comparison.
Bro the Quansheng's are sick. I have 6 of them, changed few buttons, shells with different colour screens for a bit of fun. The modded even more fun for free.
I'm not so keen on the square numbers on the display. Like ALL CAPS, they get a bit annoying to read after a while.
waow, it totally looks like my Quansheng, minus the hacks.

Que distancia abarca en VHF, con obstrucciones?
Have to use 5RM to program it.
Those harmonics! 4 times the transmissions for the price of one!
4 transmitters in 1, what a bargain and good value for money 😁
Is it legal to use in AUS?
Is it legal?
@@Speedi-tm5dm yeah Australia is like California everything you needs permission from the regime.

You pulled the screen cover off. Some people would have fit over that.
I have found the screen to be unreadable in bright sunlight.
Yep, horrible !... I just bought the Baofeng AR-152 Military Style & the screen is awesome, along with the roomy keypad with large buttons :)

The red menu is a big no no for colour blind people. 😞 As most in VK know that is why we got rid of Red & Black in house wiring and went Brown & Blue.
The red text on the blue background hurts my eyes for sure.
