Well, what I think it was and I read this in a book about Prince a while back….when he first started his career and was trying to get radio play, the Detroit DJ’s fell in love with his music and were playing him like crazy so all of Detroit knew his music well. Then when he came to Detroit on tour he felt their deep love for him and he was always super loyal to all of Detroit ever since. He always gave them radio interviews when he was in town too.
Detroit is the home of Motown and a lot of our Black stars came out of that city. We grew up listening to that sound as children and it will forever have a special place in our hearts as Black folk from that generation which is 60s -70s kids. That's why he covers a lot of that music in his sets.
OMG!! Thank you for putting this collection of goodies together for us fans, friends, and family of Uncle P. Like u said, some of his greatest work was live or those classic after concert jam sessions at some local club until the early morning. Always a joy hearing uncle P's music.
