    I’ve spent a lot of time going through a lot of your tutorials on Ftd and I just wanted to say how much I appreciate the work put into teaching newer players how things work and I really enjoy your wholesomeness and interaction with your community 😊

    Tiltrotors can get fairly efficient if built correctly, and there's room for all sorts of tricks regarding with the use of vectored thrusters.

    • @GMODISM
      @GMODISM  2 роки тому

      Indeed, I'd say not more efficient that planes but surely more efficient than this using some breadboard circuits!

      @@GMODISM At present the meta build for Menti's Airship tourney is looking to be a frontsider using a rotating central spine with all the lift and strafe thrusters installed onto it.
      That thing is ridiculously evasive since it can have all of the upthrust pushing it any any direction perpendicular to the direction it is facing in, and has a crazy amount of redundant thrust because of that while still having a lot of strafing power.
      Edit: For reference, the central column can provide Vertical and Horizontal thrust, as well as a lot of roll control via vectoring the outputs from the thrusters.
      I've played around with a smaller version of the concept, and it's scarily efficient since the thrusters can be running at max output the entire time.
      It only needs some extra pitch and roll control as well as Push and Pull thrusters for forwards and backwards movement, and those are also on spinblocks so it only needs a single pair for that

      @@IainDoherty51 ah does it have the thrusters on spinblocks in order to safely tuck them away within the ship hmm?
      But I can see such a concept with a open thruster unit too!

      @@GMODISM All of the thrusters are external or have full clearance as per the tourney rules, it's just extremely skeletal in the midsection to allow for that to occur with the spine :D

    This design seems like it'd make a great swarm vehicle

    One major thing about propellers now is that they have a "reaction time" that greatly increases with the size of the propeller. I don't know if they fixed it but the AI has a very hard time taking into account the ramp up/down.
    Edit: sometimes it's better to use a smaller blade and then just artificially extend it

    • @GMODISM
      @GMODISM  2 роки тому +1

      Well you should be able to increase the derivate and average times in the pid settings to mitigate this issue!

    another way to figure out the range to set in the LWC for missiles is to calculate the missile's maximum displacement
    formula: missilespeed*lifetime or thrusttime (which ever is smaller)
    if the calculation is over 5000, you can just ignore the range setting
    and yes, i know that the missile continues to travel even if it runs out of thrust, but it likely wont hit anything so i recommend you ignore that fact

    Are new propellers cpu hogs? I heard dedi blades were back in the day. I was playing around with a tilt rotor and it was murdering the frames, which is rare now a days.

      The rotor is fixed on the top, but there are atleast 3 heavy spinblock wheels to generate torque to rolls the craff, pretty much like this. ua-cam.com/video/4kfBEaTncjI/v-deo.html

    I've seen some experts create insane missle avoidance protocols for their designs. Would it be possible for a helicopter to just *thrust up* real fast to kinda *jump over* the missles?

    Can we only use the prop to push roll and pitch? Jet engines seem to waste a lot of mats in adventure mode

    • @GMODISM
      @GMODISM  Рік тому +1

      Yes it's possible to only use props, add more for control or even use breadboards to control the one works too. However jet engines use engine power and are not really wasteful for controlling the vessels pich and roll.

    Thanks to bits of this guide (and a lot of balancing of the weight), i was able to make a helicopter with a blade closer to the front. Granted it has a few rockets but honestly it flies really, really well.
