  • Recordings of the meter gauge railway line in western Switzerland from Zweisimmen in the Bernese Oberland via Gstaad, Rougement, Château d'Oex and Montbovon to Montreux on Lake Geneva (Lac Leman).
    The recordings were made between 2019 and 2022. This period is characterized by a radical change in traction of the rolling stock. The GDe 4/4 luggage railcars of the 6000 series were completely phased out from passenger transport by 2021. The Montreux-Zweisimmen traffic is pulled by Stadler ABe / Be 4/4 ALPINA railcars and Ge 4/4 8000 locomotives. While the majority of the Breda panorama coaches and the pilot-coaches of the Crystal and Super Panoramic Express were refitted with automatic couplers for the future shuttle service, most of the standard coaches were discarded or handed over to the "Petit train de la Mure" in France. An exception is the Golden Pass Classic Express (standard car from the 1960s in the look of the Pullman vehicles from the founding years).
    In autum of 2022, the new "Golden Pass Express" with its lane-changing Stadler panoramic cars could already be observed on test drives. From the timetable change in December 2022, these luxury-trains will run between Montreux, Zweisimmen, Spiez and Interlaken Ost. Since the section of this line from Zweisimmen to Interlaken runs on BLS standard gauge tracks, the train is equipped with gauge-changing bogies. In Zweisimmen the gauge of the train is changed from 1000 mm to 1435 mm.
    Be 4/4 shuttle trains and Stadler ABeh 2/6 are used in the regional traffic of Lenk-Zweisimmen, Zweisimmen-Gstaad and Montreux-Les Avants.
    The recordings:
    00:00-03:29 between Zweisimmen, Rinderberg and Oeschseite
    03:30-03:55 GDe 4/4 "Train au Chocolat" with Golden Pass Panoramic in Schönried
    03:56-05:19 Gstaad
    05:20-06:09 between Gstaad and Flendruz
    06:10-06:51 Golden Pass Express - gauge-changing train on a test drive in Flendruz
    06:52-12:21 between Flendruz, Château-d'Oex, Rossinière and Montbovon
    12:22-13:29 Montbovon
    13:30-17:06 Montbovon-Les Sciernes
    17:07-17:45 Les Avants
    17:46-22:07 GDe 4/4 6005 driving school train in Les Avants and Sendy Sollard
    22:08-23:25 GDe 4/4 6005 driving school train - shunting in Chamby
    23:26-25:55 Chamby
    25:56-26:49 Chernex
    26:50-28:21 Fontanivent
    28:22-31:18 Châtelard
    31:20-32:21 Montreux
    32:22-34:35 Zweisimmen-Lenk incl. freight train GDe 4/4 "Train au Chocolat"
    34:36-35:11 GDe 4/4 with Classic Pullman Express at Chamby

    MOB is one of my favorite rail systems. Can't wait to ride these rails again through Gstaad.

    Great video Granit!
    Do you plan on recording some more Berner Oberland Bahn or Appenzeller Bahnen in the future?

    MOB Ge 4/4 8004 seems to be Identical to Rhb Abula Engandine Verina & Arosa Lines Ge 4/4 IIIs which are 11kv 16.7-25hz AC version of MOB Ge 4/4 8000s

    • @Edelweiss1102
      @Edelweiss1102 Рік тому +1

      That's absolutely true. The RhB Ge 4/4 IIIs are just AC variants of the MOB Ge 4/4 8000s. The RhB did actually buy ex Ge 4/4 number 8003 and is currently converting it into an AC unit, it will run the RhB network as Ge 4/4 III Number 653. Originally it was planed to do the same with number 8004, but they decided to leave it at 8003 since the MOB still needs the remaining 3 8000s for the new gauge changing express trains.

    Why is there a random coach in the middle of the set?

    • @singapuu7643
      @singapuu7643 Рік тому +1

      Simple cost-saving measure, less expensive to run old but reliable stock than to replace the entire fleet. Look up the chemin de fer du jura, they're masters at that, having only bought new power cars.

    • @Edelweiss1102
      @Edelweiss1102 Рік тому

      The MOB always has been very flexible and conservative with its rolling stock. They tend to replace single pieces at a time, like buying new power cars that can be used in tandem with older cars or a new set of panorama cars that can do the same and then mixing them together instead of replacing the entire fleet at once. It's cheaper and after all, if it ain't broken why fix/replace it?
      Most train sets in this video are a mishmash of rolling stock that can be anywhere from barely a year to scratching 40 years old. The random car here also has room for baggage and is used to transport bicycles, so it's still useful.

    Warum fahren die Triebwagen mit 2 gehobenen Stromabnehmern? Ist doch sehr ungewöhnlich.

    • @granitblock_rail
      @granitblock_rail  Рік тому

      Wegen der relativ geringen Spannung auf der MOB Linie sind sehr hohe Stromstärken erforderlich. Daher fahren die Loks und Triebwagen der MOB immer mit zwei gehobenen Stromabnehmern am Fahrdraht. Zudem sind die Stromabnehmer mit drei statt den üblichen zwei Schleifleisten versehen
