- Following in the footsteps of his Leave it to Beaver co-stars Hugh Beaumont, Tony Dow, and Ken Osmond, Jerry Mathers had one of the primary roles on Lassie at age 20 on Dec. 15, 1968. In the episode called Lassie and the 4-H Boys, Mathers gets into a fight with his 4-H brother over a bull they plan to enter in a contest until one of them decides he would rather keep it as a pet.
I edited this video to show the eight-minutes of moments with Mathers.
thanks Scott for posting, never knew Jerry was in this!!
Thanks ❤ ive never seen this.
I thought I saw all of Lassie episodes as a kid but don't remember this one.
Tony Dow did a My Three Sons episode in 64 or 65 you can find it on here it's a fun episode.
Yes, these are my vid hilites on my channel here of Tony Dow on My Three Sons... ua-cam.com/video/FTZUgL2z01s/v-deo.html
Gerry Mathews' acting skills really shone in this rendition of "Leave it to Lassie."
He was very handsome at that age. Also saw him on the Dating Game in '68.
That Dating game was in 1966
what am I doing with my life?
@@ScreamingEagleFTW Living?
Jerry was a good-looking guy here.
This is awesome. I don't remember seeing this as a kid!!! I loved this show!!
He acts the same as he did in Leave It To Beaver. The same speech patterns and everything.
Love Jerry Mathers, very handsome with a beautiful smile 😊
Beaver fighting with his brother what he never did with Wally. He wouldn't have tried because Wally was much bigger and older. But here in the end him & his brother settled their differences. Jerry Mathers was always a great actor. When he would make appearances on talk shows. What he would say to his fans, "I'm still the Beaver." Jerry Mathers is a fine individual.
He did fight with Wally in season 1. That was the only time l saw "June Cleaver" wack "Wally" on the behind in an effort to break it up.
Some people don't think he can act ⤴
Beaver was a natural born actor...acting was very effortless for him....
@@garychambers5850 Yeah, I don't know what they're comparing his acting with. This isn't Hamlet, it's television. And Jerry Mathers certainly holds his own with the others.
I watch from the very first broadcast, my brother and I never had a family so we kind of adopted beaver and his family. We never missed an episode, and, I still watch Leave it to Beaver every single day, very rare do I miss a rebroadcast. I've seen each episode several dozen times I'm sure. But again I never had a family and I adopted them as my make-believe family and that's how I learned how to treat people, be kind courteous and inquisitive. He is the only surviving member from Leave it to Beaver. I still see the kid in him when he's on TV. I see him on UA-cam occasionally as well. Always perfect gentleman, well-mannered and a good sense of humor. Today is June 27th 2023
Do you get this feeling that Lassie already had made a friend with Jerry they seemed so friendly towards each other!!
Anything with Lassie in it already has my ❤️. After seeing this I remember seeing this in the 70's. I just didn't know Jerry Mathers was the actor. The brothers may have fought but in the end they made up. Unlike the shows of today.
LOVE BEAVER AND LASSIE!!!!❤🌻🕊🐕
Leave it to Beefer.
Ward would have been devastated that Beaver got into a fight. He would have taken him into his den and gave him a stern talking to. Beaver would have most likely spent the weekend in his room.
It's sad that Beaver turned out to be a Wild Drunk like he did. I know that Ward died of a heart attack soon after Beaver was Arrested. June ended up shacking up with Fred Rutherford and Mrs Rayburn. In a way it lucky that Dennis the Menace was killed in Vietnam and didn't have to witness this embarrassing event.
Poor Beav!
Are you kidding? You don't remember that boxing lesson? "Don't get 'gressive with me, Violet Rutherford!"
Damnn Beaver! 😘
Lassie always saves the day.
Classic Presentation. Thanks.
My pleasure! Glad you enjoyed.
Mathers is such an icon as Beaver Cleaver, that it seems criminal for him to take another role.
The whole cast is iconic.
@@StellaWaldvogel you got that right!
The only actor/actress on the show who really played two roles was Mrs Mondello who was also Aunt Harriet Cooper from Batman. She was great in both shows.
Thanks to Lassie neither one of the boys got hurt in that fight although that's why I came here, to see a fight so...
At least the ending turned out better than I could have imagined. Or anyone else for that mathers. I was fourteen and don't remember the Beav from anything other than Leave It To Beaver. Although I remember watching a lot of the early Lassie seasons, I'm sure I quit watching Lassie by '68.
In 1968, Mathers has grown up from a child to teenager
And beyond, he is 20 years old in real life in this show
What brilliant editing
Jerry you remind of the good olde days.
according to Shelly Winters on the Johnny Carson show she said she read in the paper "that wonderful boy who played Beaver Cleaver got killed in Vietnam we have to end this horrible war" and Jerry was in the National Guard in California it was a mix-up another guy with a similar or identical name got killed very sad so many great guys died in that war but it caused a huge uproar with people thinking "we sent the All American Boy to Vietnam and he got killed"
yep, here's jerry explaining it... ua-cam.com/video/TkqG31mFn9U/v-deo.html
@@shettrick I think the soldier who died was named Jerry Mathews with a w in place of the r and some reporter or editor who was anti-war assumed it was Mathers both guys were from California and that's how the obituary got published with that headline it's terrible how it happened.
The Beaver could’ve ended the War .
I wish they make more Lassie TV shows or movies.🙂
Almost as good as the fight he had with the papergirl.
Terribly acted fight
Lol
i remember that one
LOL. It looks identical......The fight with the papergirl was on a rerun on my oldie station not too long ago.
@@ronster369 just bad acting, actually when he hit puberty and the cuteness was gone , u could see he was no actor, around season 4, kinda bad.
Jerry was 20 here? He look's about 15-16. 🤔
When I see Jerry Mathers as a young actor, I feel like a kid!!
So true , same here !
He looks like Elijah Gemstone now
Boy, Beaver, you lost your prize bull? The guys are really going to give you the business at school tomorrow!
"Gee, Wally, I was almost attacked by a mountain lion! Why, I almost had a COW!". "Wow, Beave, that sounds like a lotta BULL!"
LOL....funny
I could just picture them still talking like this today!
The Beaver was going to sick Lassie on Eddie Haskell.
This what happens when Ward Cleaver isn’t around all hell breaks loose even when someone isnt a little kid anymore it was never going to be smooth casting someone else as the Beavers father .
Check out Beaver and the Trappers, his rock group of the sixties. They had one tune that was pretty good. He has had an interesting life.
Yes, I've posted his recording here along with the tribute he did to it on the show... ua-cam.com/video/gzwDlQDGKZ0/v-deo.html
Too bad Tony Dow wasn't there with the Beaver. That would've been an interesting episode.
"Gee Wally, that cougar might be ferocious! I say we better head back home!"
@@ChristopherSobieniak And Eddie talking Beaver into doing the wrong thing, like trying to make a pet of the mountain lion or something.
@@peggyarnold4333 HA!

RIP Tony.
At first I thought the Beav was fighting Violet Rutherford!!!
Nah violet would've hit first
The first time I ever saw Lassie not go behind a bush to fight.
And with lots of growling noises...the foley artist had some excellent job security.
Lassie was biting both of them when they were fighting each other!
Eddie Haskell: "Maybe he's not such a little squirt after all."
2:21 The Beaver is taking a lot of bull.
too bad Lassie never guest starred on the Beaver.
There was only room for one star on the beaver…
Run Beaver, run!
The action was choreographed so intensely that I had to slow down the video and watch it several times to catch all of it.
Butch is missing?
Beaver: This has Eddie Haskells fingerprints all over it.
ok the beaver but lassie is the big star here. i love lassie and collies.
The last year of Leave it to Beaver Jerry Mathers was about 13 or 14 . That would make him 15. . To be 20 in 1968.
Jerry Mathers was born June 2, 1948 (just had his 71st birthday), so he had turned 15 by the time the show ended June 20, 1963. Perhaps you are thinking about the age of the character of Beaver when show ended.
Scott Hettrick u are right he was born in 1948. And the show started in 1957 and lasted until 1963. So he would have been 9 when it started and 15 when it finished.
What?
@@shettrick I guess I was thinking of how old he was on the show.
@@ladycharsw Right, you mean how old his character of Beaver was, not how old the actor Jerry Mathers was - got it
That rock out crop looks like the same one Captain Kirk climbs in the Star Trek episode with the Korn.
I stooped watching LASSIE by this time. While I never saw this episode, I am reminded of why I lost interest. Episodes like this were contrived for 1968 standards. And the situation written for these "juveniles" where were older than the parts they were cast in is awkward and difficult to watch. It is a curiosity seeing Jerry Mathers post LEAVE IT TO BEAVER get through this, however.
Rudd Weatherwax was such an amazing trainer. I tend to try to figure out how he trained the "Lassies" to do things when I watch these. I agree these later ones aren't as good as the early ones - I can watch the ones with Tommy Rettig and just enjoy them without constantly speculating about dog training.

MMA Beaver... 👍🥊
in the original script the bull's name was supposed to be Lumpy and yes it was a happy ending for all they got the money for the tuition they got to keep the bull and they turned him into porterhouse T-Bones filet mignon and ribeye
My how TV has changed..... miss these feel good shows of years past.... today’s sucks.... with one exception... THE WIRE was a masterpiece from HBO
The wire sucked
Mad Men, Wonder Years, Breaking Bad.
The wire is rated TV-MA for strong violence including brutal disturbing images, pervasive language, some strong sexual content/nudity, and drug material throughout. So, a movie or show with a rating like that is being compared to Lassie??? Give me a break. That is nothing like this. How is that a feel good program?
He should of had hooked up with Penny when da show had ended! 💘
Next time Beaver bring a 45-70 case closed
My woods rifle... Marlin 1895CB, manufactured years before Marlin was sold.
Was Timmy (Jon Provost) still on Lassie in 1968 ? I guess not ...
No, not Jeff and Timmy were both gone by then
I don't think he was.
That was the Ranger years. Color TV was still a big deal, so lots of nature shots of mountains, trees, big rocks...I'm pretty sure that's why they had Lassie go to a forest ranger.
Beaver would’ve never done that to Wally because he would’ve clobbered him!🦦
I would hardly recognize him. I recognize his voice more.
"Well Gee Wally, ya think I should keep the " Cow" ??
"Beaver your 20 now go get a steady girlfriend and start getting laid. Jerry at 20 was a great looking guy. He was a shy dude.
Jerry is a damn good looking teen idiol
The Beaver is the same, but every other character isn’t.
Stephen Hawking called...he wants his grappling skills back.
I wonder what Butch is up to these days?
Butch probably became steaks, stew meat and hamburger 50 years ago.
Beaver was smoking the devils lettuce lol
Where are they taking dat cow? 🤣🤣🤣🤣
you gotta make money somehow.
Beaver is such a bad actor
you mean Jerry Mathers
That's a big cow
No, no you got it all wrong! That wasn't a fight it was what you would call a rolling dirt hug!
👍🧒🏻
What a lame fight!
Mountain lion steaks are supposedly good eating. Nice to have a prize bull.
Ugh. Cat meat.
He was actually on Dating Game 2 years earlier at age 18 in 1966.
