@@LethaboLovesOra Same. When I rededicated my life, music was my stronghold, and rap music particularly. But like Lecrae said, back in the 80’s early 90’s, there weren’t any gospel rappers other than Toby Mac, and that didn’t grab my attention. Then there were the Gospel Gangsters and T-Bone, and there were the closest I could get to hardcore gospel, without the cursing, but still not really interested….. Then I thought, what if I continued listening to these artists, and then all of a sudden, my favorite ones got saved, then what? So my prayer became, Lord, deliver me from the music, and lead me to music that is uplifting, beneficial and can feed my spirit. And he took my desire away over time. I was lead to Lecrae and Reach Records, and everyone under that umbrella in 2012, and I haven like back since. I can’t STAND to hear today’s music, rap or r&b! God and CHH changed my life…..

At the end of the day, it’s really all about discernment, because not all secular music is bad, everyone’s wired differently and everyone’s walk don’t have to be the same, it really comes down to what artists you listen to, how their songs make you feel and your reason for why you listen to them, nobody should be judging each other for what they listen to if it ain’t hurting anybody or themselves but at the same time, we definitely should be mindful of WHAT and WHO we listen to

@omarsornoza Agreed wholeheartedly. I had to choose. I couldn't be lukewarm any longer. I do understand that all secular music is not bad. However, I often have to consider, what is the source of this musical composition? And lastly, I know the Holy Spirit will SPEAK directly, when we ask him to reveal truth to us. I think part of the thing people struggle with, is that they know, once they ask for the truth to be revealed, they have to make a choice. Some don't want to know the truth. My prayer is that the Lord reveals the truth to all who desire to see and hear it, as well convict those who aren't ready yet.

We just had Priscilla Shirer on here and she said something so profound that will forever be etched in my head. “For many Christians the question is how close can I get to sin without crossing the line, but for the disciple it’s how close can I get to Jesus”. Something may not be inherently sin but is it elevating me? There are some that are called to the dark places and of course we need to know how to strategize and operate to get other folks into the kingdom without compromising ourselves. Not to mention we do have proof that A LOT of mainstream IS EVIL. So why not just save yourself the trouble of things sticking to you and just not listen. Overall this was a good listen and it’s ok to agree to disagree. I believe that as we grow with God, He will convict us of things and we will want to get rid of it.

I think that as Believers, we need to be careful trying to make a case for our sin. Then we become a stumbling block for others. Especially with the kind of influence God has blessed Lecrae with. Secular music has a disastrous influence over American culture. Drugs, killing, hyper sexual behavior, desensitization, imaginative living, & outright witchcraft is being preached through the dark secular music platform. It is not of God. The Bible teaches us to abstain from the appearance of evil Thessalonians 5:22. James 4:4 teaches that to be friends with the world is to be Gods enemy.
We all struggle with something but don’t call sin good or okay just because you struggle with it.
We must call a sin a sin even if we struggle with that sin. This was a long commentary on why those that struggle to let go of secularism should feel good about it.
I love this brother and appreciate all he has done to create space for hip hop artists who want to serve God with their talents but please remember, God is the Creator of all things. The devil is emulating & perverting. Stop preaching the other way around.

"Jesus did not hang out with sinners, sinners hung out with Jesus" That's a really helpful way to conceptualize, thank you for sharing.
I also appreciate the discussion around meat sacrificed to idols and how Paul talks about when you might choose for or against eating meat. I have been reading Revelation lately, and particularly the letters to the 7 churches. This topic seems to fit in will especially with what Jesus says to the church in Thyatira. He has a big problem with those who promote sexual immorality and food sacrificed to idols, but goes on to say " But I say to you, the rest who are in Thyatira, who do not hold this teaching, who have not known the deep things of Satan, as they call them-I place no other burden on you. 25 Nevertheless what you have, hold firmly until I come. Since 2023 I’ve been on a journey with secular music. What started out as fasting from it for a month turned into a year plus and the benefits are revolutionary for me. I never really listened to anything too ‘crazy’ but when I tried to get back into secular music, songs about love, life etc nothing ‘sinful’ everytime the next day I always felt off. I couldn’t explain until God reminded me of when I stopped drinking sodas for like a year and when I had my first soda it wasn’t as enjoyable, my body had been so used to water it’s like it rejected the soda. And that’s what I believe is happening with my music. Don’t get me wrong it’s the HARDEST thing I have done and doing but I know this sacrifice is worth it. God bless everyone on this journey just keep going

Music is *much* more influential to shaping culture than movies _(in our country)_ . When we watch movies, none of us think that the actors are actually *LIVING* what we’re watching, so we’re less influenced to live that out.
In hip-hop culture, authenticity is esteemed *highly* , so people are assumed to *LIVE* what they talk about. In that sense, it becomes much more influential and shapes the social norms of society and the way that many people think. In that regard, it can be much more dangerous, so it's talked about more.

One word. Hypocrisy. The same people that hate on Christians who listen to secular music are the same people who watch secular shows and movies with cursing, killing, and sexual content. Maybe 1% of Christians truly make an effort to block out all secular content. Also, to say music is more spiritual as a statement of why they take music more seriously than other forms of art; well that may be a stretch cause if you know the history of Hollywood and understand that the CIA is heavily involved, you will know the power that film and TV hold over people’s minds.

As an artist I try to find a happy medium because I don't want to be seen as "corny" but I also want to be honest. As a listener I feel what we entertain effects our spirit more than we realize. @@mramirez5239 It's both... there are Christians always looking to condemn something that they don't understand because it doesn't line up with what "they believe is right". They fail to get context and proper understanding. There are Christians for whom this might not be their speed but they must follow their "own" convictions.
None of this is a heaven or hell issue in my opinion. Crae makes music that inspires me to keep fighting the good fight of faith. For example, "Only Human"... is one of my favorite tracks. I just don't understand why Christians want other Christians to stay in a box and not impact the world with our God-given gifts? We were meant to do more than just stay in our Comfortable Christian Circles.
At the end of the day... God allowed and guided the Israelites to take over the land and possessions of the wicked nations. Our voice and talents need to be loud just like the world's voice... we should be tired of being locked in a box by other Christians.

We each have our own convictions. Listen I'm bald as ever and I love Jesus. For some Christians that's a no no and for other's who cares, my hair or no hair is not a salvation issue. Now to the subject. If a Christian believes they should only listen to Christian music that's your business,. I guess that means not going to the store, any parties or interactions because someone somewhere will be listening to secular music. If a Christian has no conviction about secular music that's their business, I grew up on Gospel/Christian, old school R&B & Smooth Jazz (Boney James, Najee) as I gotten older, wiser in my walk I have moved away from R&B I prefer Smooth Jazz. Even in that ,I am a strong believer in not listening to anything raunchy, overly sexual or plain nasty. But I don't have conviction about listening to Jazz, and I love Jesus with everything in me. And respectfully when I get married I don't want to hear"Near the Cross" nor any Christian music at the wedding or my wedding night 😂 but if that's what another Christian desires that's their business. I said all this to say less be respectfully of folks convictions and stance on music. If a person just came from the streets only listening to Tupac and they get saved, don't expect them to turn to Hezekiah Walker overnight its a process. Some don't eat meat, look at TV, only wear modest clothes for others they believe this is bondage we all have our own convictions. Let the Holy Spirit do the work, and just live for Jesus Christ.

We don’t function off of convictions, we fully function off of the word of God. When the Bible says something that we’re not convicted of we then go to God with a need for him to make our hearts line up with his word. Is there some type of subsconcious effect on our joy and our faith.

But up until about 45:19, this sounded like a master class for rap artists. Because you were a pioneer Lecrae, there were a lot of different avenues that you had to travel. But by no means would I encourage my 15-year-old son to listen to secular music. Because the truth of the matter is anyone that is wanting to persue rap and but not necessarily fall into the industry trap, You yourself have made that available to others. You and many many other artists have changed the narrative of how "christian music" sounds.
Yes if someone wanted to become a great filmmaker they could reach out to Spielberg, but they also can reach out to the Kendrick Brothers. The point is that many people have yeilded themselves to CHRIST and vow to be a light not just a lampshade.

It’s going to be difficult for your testimony to save anyone as you ostracize the simple people that need the Lord most. You can’t sit down at the table with sinners anymore. Think about that.. there is something wrong there. If a pop song disturbs your gospel, you make the gospel look so weak and porous. You can dance 💃 and you won’t go to hell guys. All that will happen is you will smile and have fun. Be better. Live in the real world instead of making it what Jesus never intended. You can’t be more holy than Jesus.

21 clip at 0:16 is a CLEAR operation of the spirit of doubt, a sin! Psalm 50:15 God made promises to us and wont go back on the word! Believing in Jesus and not obeying his word is exactly what satan does himself. No one can serve two masters - Matthew 6:24 Cut off secular music (satan) or Cut Off God ? Romans 2:12 explains that people are held accountable to God's Word to whatever extent they understand it. “All who sin apart from the law will also perish apart from the law, and all who sin under the law will be judged by the law.” In other words, the more you know, the greater your level of accountability so now that you know this will you continue to do as you wish or Gods will. Do not twist the word for your fleshly desires if its hard to turn away from it then its the work of the enemy (flesh desire)

Most of us came from the hood. I understand why they make the music, just like how I used to listen to that type of music .. I wasn't saved, and I grew up on that. We can emphasize with them cause we were once in their shoes, but I'm still not gone listen or want my children to listen to it because the music is toxic and demonic. Let's call a spade a spade. the majority of secular music is demonic. I'm not calling them a demon, but the music is definitely demonic their not hiding it. Music , movies, etc. we definitely, as believers, need to watch what we listen to and watch and allow in our spirit. Use wisdom. You either feed the flesh or the spirit.

Amazing perspective - one thing I’d say as a fellow artist/songwriter and Christian still trying to figure this out for myself (obviously not one on Lecrae’s level but my bedroom counts!) is that there’s a very different relationship w/ secular music for someone a Christian that creates it vs one who just consumes it. Musicians have a genuine reason to study Lil Baby’s cadence in order to keep up with (and hopefully improve upon) the progress made within the music space in their own music so that God can use it to reach others through it’s quality. I listen to secular music on occasion now solely to keep up with new innovative sonic ideas in the industry, but I do take deep issue with the lyrics through the Spirit and can’t enjoy what they’re saying/let myself get enveloped in it the way I once did. Paul did this same thing by becoming familiar with greek “secular” poets. However, someone who doesn’t make music or art themselves as a Christian - there may be a real problem with simply listening to the music and letting it envelop you the way it intends to. Music can be a deeply life-altering, spiritually charged, all-encompassing and immersive experience that, if accompanied by evil ideas, can really seep into a Christian’s spirit and - in my opinion - should invoke a level of conviction. There’s levels to it.

I listen to “secular” music. I listen to a lot of musicals, like Hamilton and I’m not sure if that is “secular” but I don’t listen to it nearly as much as I used to. 90% of what I listen to is worship music. Helps my anxiety.

That’s secular but not evil, there’s a big difference, for example I love jazz, and also an artist I like is Michael Jackson, both Michael and the genre of jazz is secular, but not evil, so not all secular music is evil, we should avoid evil music

Great episode of the deep end Lecrae very relatable &TRUE!🔥🔥💯I don’t listen to secular music anymore but when I do it’s only songs that God may put on my path potentially for me to grow and pray for people who are stuck in that secular music realm &the artists. But all in all no I don’t normally listen to secular music anymore but I was raised with it all and it had a huge strong hold on me in my life for as long as I can remember until only 3 years ago I gave up that music and only listen to Christian music and I am also an artist Christian rapper I use to rap for the devil now I use my gift for Jesus too honour him and others. Blessings 🙏🏼❤️

Now he says he’s a Christian rapper lol. And this isn’t hate Crae. Bear with me and read the below
We would like you to circle back to this topic. I agree with Datin early on when he said you seemed to duck the title like you were ashamed of your brethren and faith
I’m a street guy. Got saved at 15 but left the Lord at 16 running the streets from 16-20. Hung with the vice lord’s, black stone moes, black mafia, c fluids, etc. Sold weed, chased women, listened to 36, Project Pat, MJG & 8 ball. I repented and came back to the faith at 20. My wife introduced me to Cross Movement, Da Truth, and Flame. And CHH helped me come back to the faith so strong I’m grateful 20 years later. That’s why I fight for the C in HH and have had some stronger rebukes for you Crae. Look how much the music influenced me and even your early stuff. I felt the anointing in the earlier CHH stuff. Was heavy into This’l, R Swift, J Johnson (aka Silas), J’son, Timothy Brindle, Everyday Process, and many many more CHH artists and groups. I’ve been able to also give others struggling with listening to secular music, godly content to turn to
I personally believe many of y’all forgot about your brethren and were trying to make a name in the secular arenas. And I understand and get that to a point. But it rubbed me the wrong way because I felt there was a compromise by some of y’all to befriend the world to get into their circles. I recall Joseph, Daniel, and the three Hebrew boys and saw how they moved. They didn’t compromise their faith or character to win the world. They actually were promoted for their walk with TMH. Also, the early church of Acts, they influenced the culture, not the other way around. Remember they even said “those who turn the world upside down are now here”. A lot of the brethren even paid the ultimate price with their lives.
So that’s why I had an issue with some of the rappers who say they’re Christian at the end instead of being a Christian up front. Y’all music is “Reaching” more people than you know and up front you didn’t have to compromise the faith. Remember y’all music is keeping some in the faith as well. Yes we are to go and witness to the world but we also got many backsliding and leaving the faith and if your moves contributed to that, I wouldn’t want to be in that convo with The Most High because you’ve lead someone astray by some of the co-signs with the worldly artists. I left 36 alone for a reason, because their music was evil. And I see God is working on Project because he’s starting to get bold with his faith. I pray Juice repents and turns back to Christ too. Their dad is a pastor
If you can’t bump the music windows down at a stop light or in front of kids, family, etc., then you know something ain’t right

Amen brother, I too was highly impacted by artists such as Lecrae growing up, and not any of his stuff from about 2016 onwards. His old stuff was Jesus or nothing, which should be how we as Christians view things. Sure, I could go listen to secular music that doesn’t necessarily have sinful content, but why? Christians should be asking why they so badly want to cling to things of this world when they have been called to no longer belong to it. Further I am commenting so I don’t want to lose my spot here but Paul notes this when he’s speaking of having the ability and freedom to do all things but not all things are beneficial. Overall, it’s literally Christian hip hop because it’s NOT secular hip hop and we shouldn’t be ashamed of the title because it literally contains Christ’s name in it. What shall it profit a man to gain the whole world but lose his own soul, is anything worth more than your soul? - Jesus Christ
God bless you brother, may you remain in Jesus as He remains in you, Amen.

@@EnriqueAmen amen my brother! Now to think of me still in the faith 20 years later. God used CHH to keep me on this side. The music I listened to was a struggle of mine. I was influenced early listening to music as a kid. And especially as a black man, the hood, music, etc were father figures to us when our dads weren’t around. We want to be what we heard and seen and unfortunately I see how the devil has used hip hop to program narratives about the black community. I wish my color brothers would wake up and see these lies as well. Just look at our culture’s music and hear the lyrics. No other genre talks about the sins ours does. It glorifies sex, drugs, violence, gangs, etc. This is why I defend CHH because I see what satan is doing. Like Paul said concerning the Jews, he wished they would lay their culture down to come to Christ. I wish my people would lay our skin color down and come to the truth of his Word

I sent this video to a couple respected men of God in my life and asked for their input:
    1) I agree about the rap genre.
The music is a tool. How it is used matters.
Rock music was secular before any Christian Rock existed and I absolutely love some of the Christian rock, music.
However, as I've matured more with being married, I rarely listen to it.
My heart is now laser focused on uplifting biblical messages, and praise and worship.
    2) Yes, all music genres can be redeemed, but also agree with Lecrae, can also be a stumbling block.
    3) is secular music OK for most all of us to listen to. No!!
The negative messages and meditation of the heart is mostly worldly , demonic, evil.
Lecrae says that he can appreciate the music without the message, but would I recommend that the majority of believers allow negative messages near our hearts and mind? No!
This is why we don't personally have cable TV and immediately turn off and skip certain ads on the Internet.
    4) I have heard a preacher once say something like "you're better off watching hard-core porn, than letting the sewage of this world( TV programs, sitcoms, MSM)
go through your brain day after day"
I absolutely agree. I would never try to start a "porn watchers rights advocacy group" like some of the people of the world.
I know it's evil and that's why I have forsaken it. I never said to my friends or customers while I was caught up in that addiction " gee, you should've seen the porn flick I seen last night! this episode was so cool!"
But try to get some of the non-spirit filled Christians to agree that they should not be watching the same crap as the world on TV and you will face extreme resistance.
To advocate that it's OK to listen to secular music just adds to their debauchery.
    4) As a professional with the sincere desire to capture the best music and feelings is his God-given gift! yes , Lecrae could benefit from listening, and I'm sure that most skilled Christian music artists do go through a bunch of secular music for the melodies and the heart.
    But it is very dangerous.
I definitely would never recommend that for 80% of the body of Christ.
    5) There are endless admonitions in the scriptures about separating the holy from the profane!
    6) We don't have Netflix. We don't have any secular TV.
We are even very careful about what we watch on UA-cam and Facebook and Instagram.
We not only need to be very careful about what we let in, but also what COMES OUT of our mouth.
If I'm singing the same things as the godless, worldly culture… I'm confessing wickedness, unbelief, and perversion; depression, doom and destruction.
    7) I love good music and am probably one of the greatest critics of most Christian music, not having the guts to step out into great powerful melodies and hard driven, gut wrenching messages.
My wife works for a Christian radio station and I wish things could be different! (To their credit They have provided alternatives to their "airwaves" stations on the Internet, which is awesome! they have one for rock and one for rap/ hip hop and one for Hispanic music).
But those kind of things don't sell because the entire Christian market is mostly dominated financially by soccer moms and the type of religious people that Lecrae is speaking against who don't want their kids, listening to "that kind of music"
    I agree ...it is prejudice.
Still, I would rather listen to bad Christian melodies which speak God's biblical truth than good secular music.
    8) If you're going to target the lost like Lecrae is doing with having his music accepted in both genres, you better make sure you're very mature and very anchored.
One of the old and wiser elders of a church we used to attend said “clean don't rub off on dirt"

This is not about whether christians should or should not do something. This is about being a Christian filled with the Holy Spirit do you desire to listen to secular music and if you test the spirit of said music by the spirit of God I am sure he will lead you and guide you into all truth. This could apply to many things in the world. 1 John 4:5-6,
