Enjoyed this video. It’s such a job for me to find tops that work and are flattering, due to my narrow shoulders, short torso and has become even more difficult with aging crinkling arms. Once I’ve found one I do I resist letting them go. Purging my closet twice a year to evaluate each piece has helped to keep my look current but the struggle is real! So many styles are sleeveless and shrugs or blazers make me feel like an advertisement for aging arms. With summer finally approaching I’d love to see a video on how to avoid frumpy when needing to camouflage aging arms.
I have the same figure concerns, plus a naturally large bust. It seems that everything is huge in the hips and shoulders if it fits my bust and waist, and can’t afford to alter everything. It’s $200 and up to take in the shoulders of a blazer where I live, it almost doubles the cost! I second your request for dressing this figure type.🙂
What a style warrior!!!! You’re really putting yourself out there for us in all those frumpy, old, outdated outfits, lol!! What a trooper you are!!! Seeing those really helps me understand and see what NOT to do. Very much like how it helps us to see ourselves in a full length mirror or take a selfie of ourselves in an outfit to see if it is working for us or not. Thanks so much for your valiant effort!! 👏🏻👏🏻👏🏻👏🏻
This was fun and enlightening to watch. My husband enjoyed it too. H’es learning so much LOL. We would love to see you give your back wall and refresher/update too. It doesn’t seem to reflect your channel and what you are trying to tell adult women. Just our thoughts. ❤
Lol, been watching these 'frumpy' videos, and I see it all over when I go out! I'm in Florida, so LOTS of mature women wearing those ugly capris, frumpy sandals, shapeless tunics. It's hilarious!! Thank you for the laugh!!
I can be guilty of hanging onto things after they have gone out of date too. I rarely wear out my clothing, so it's hard to see what's going on until I do a closet clean out. And by then, they consignment store doesn't want it either LoL.
I had to just stop shopping at those brands targeted for mature women, I always looked and felt frumpy in their clothes, even the petite sizes. Those tunic tops, wide, high necklines, and large-scale accessories are just disastrous on my petite, small frame. Even their “regular” tops, those not labeled as tunics, go down to or past my leg break and mostly can’t be tucked in, or knotted/tied, they’re too voluminous. Also their extreme vanity sizing has led me to buy too many items that are just too big, even though I always use my measurements against their size charts.
Love this video! Why oh why do shops that cater for mature women have so many over the top styles? Why do they think the older we are, the more we want our clothes to be garish, loud, sparkly, frilly, feathery etc, I dont get it?
I love your channel, your videos are just what I want, pure, non-judgmental, styling content without fluff, or blah, blah, blah. Also, unlike many very-young YTers, you don’t obsess on how you look in the camera view, constantly fiddling with your hair, agonizing over every blemish or “flaw”, explaining how their excessive drinking affected their looks that day (UK ones) and apologizing for each hair out of place. I view fashion content by all ages of women, but these youngsters can be a bit annoying sometimes. Also, very young, often skinny women don’t really understand how to dress body types other than their own, or push their own personal style too much, as if it is the only possible style. My style is very different from yours, but it doesn’t matter, your content works for everyone. You seem very knowledgeable, genuine, relaxed and relatable and just offer great style content, I subscribed, naturally!🙂
Thank you so much! That truly made my day! I value connection much more than perfection in my style and my channel and I’m so happy that you have found my approach helpful!
I see the problem with boxy shapes and frumpy shoes. I just bought ortho style shoes for walking because of foot problems. So ugly. Sigh. I am buying closer fitting clothes now even though I have a tummy. I've learned a lot from these videos, but still make bad choices based on comfort and cost. Bev
I am guilty of having such a big backside and saddlebags - I am stuck on denims - which do nothing for me btw! Every trouser that I buy pulls across the saddlebag area, so I have given up and just wear my jeans. :(
I liked seeing this video. This would make a great Challenge for us in the Ageless Style Confidence group, or even also in your Style VIP group, - taking an item or outfit we are unsure about (for whatever reason), and fixing it to work. I also liked the blog on this, but one picture did not come through,…for the black and white skirt outfit (#3) in an updated look. As to what I liked in this video, I would have had those printed long shorts cut into shorts and cuffed them, and changed the top. / And I would have added interest to a tucked green shirt with green shorts outfit, by a button up shirt , opening the collar to partially stand up, and cuffing the sleeves, and by adding a wide chestnut brown woven belt, a thick brown wood (or other natural material) cuff bracelet and bag or sandals to match the brown belt. I hope those would work? BBoyd
I have questions on the outfit with the jacket, ( shown with the wild top), and will ask them in the group. I also am wondering about the baby doll top being updated, and will ask that there, too.
The long top over a short skirt is really a 90s silhouette, so 30 years out of date! I see many women wearing outfits, accessories and hair/makeup that they loved in their 20s and 30s, when we feel that we were at our “best”, but to keep wearing them forever just looks sad. Many, many wonen are stuck in the super-sexy painted-on skinny jeans, skimpy top look with super-high heels, big black leather moto, big bleached hair and heavy black makeup of 20 years ago. It just looks so jarring on a woman in her 50s or 60s, and a little bit pathetic.
Anyone can wear skinny jeans darker shade lower heel worse to wear baggy bums in baggy wide trousers as you need a heel with those make you look fatter than y are unless talk size twelve no bigger Humpty Dumpty say no more
That’s a great question! With only a couple of exceptions (black white outfits) These items were never in style and were always aging, especially the way that they are assembled in outfits. So yes I believe that they were always aging.
All of this makes perfect sense...the only struggle is with flowered prints... how to tell if a flowered print is matronly or contemporary. For example print on the tunic top with flowers that you showed looks like the print on any number of clothes sold by young/trendy brands (not talking about the shape of tunic which is bad, but just the print). It just makes me want to avoid prints altogether!
This all makes getting dressed so much work. All the fun has been taken out of dressing yourself, and you just feel like giving up. You need so much money to keep up with all the contemporary clothes and accessories.
I'm sorry if it seems overwhelming. That is not my intention. I think we should have FUN with getting dressed. But I also think we need to check in every 5 years ago and make some adjustments. I hope that helps.
A lot of these are just how they are worn. Plenty of tubers use dresses like the 'sad' dress and make them look really great. Quite a few items shown have really nothing wrong with them and aren't out of date - they are just need to be used better and many tubers do use similar items really effectively. Seems a bit of shame. I've just watched your white dresses on Instagram and rather feel that these are too young for you. Obv just my opinion and you look fantastic but I do feel you're not making the best of the clothes or dressing women in a good way for their age.
Thanks for the comment. These clothes could absolutely be styled in a way that is more contemporary and look a lot more stylish but most of them are inherently dated. If we are paying attention to trends and that’s what we’re using as our standard these are not at all trendy but they also don’t fall into classic category. As for dressing too young I dress in a way that reflects my personal style and encourage others to do the same. If your style is a little bit more relaxed or subdued or classic then that’s how you should dress. My job is a stylist and here on UA-cam is to guide women to finding the styles that work best for them. No one will be served well by these styles in my opinion.
Does that purse have a heel? Oh my! lol. Also, the black and white dress looks like it has piano 🎹 keys. This was good!
I never tire of seeing you try on these tragic outfits! I appreciate you explaining why these things don’t work.
I liked this format but would like to see what works right after seeing what does not work so I can have examples what to look for
My thoughts exactly!
LOL I used to have those strappy mary janes and WHBM tired skirt..... oh my
Enlightening video. I would enjoy seeing more like this.

This is so helpful. Thank you so much
What's also very ageing (and I'm guilty of this) is to have a baby belly even though the rest of our body is slim, it's so hard to get a flat tummy
Be extremely proud of your mummy tummy - lots of women would be ecstatic if they had one! And thank your kids every day for being there❤

Omg these are horrible 😱🤣!! I'm pretty sure I need to show you my seafoam green linen skirt, lol! This video made me question 🤔. So good!!

My faux pas is holding onto frumpy comfy outfits to wear only at home.

you are the best! wow, had to laugh at these outfits,
I want to see how to change up the outfits I am 67 and I hate the clothes
Nicely done.

Hi Beverly! Watch my video in the VIP group from yesterday. You can have it at all! You don't have to compromise on comfort and cost. :)
Also not sure if you saw my response but definitely check out JEnette for bras. I did a video with her! jenettebras.com/
I am guilty of having such a big backside and saddlebags - I am stuck on denims - which do nothing for me btw! Every trouser that I buy pulls across the saddlebag area, so I have given up and just wear my jeans. :(
How about a beautiful flowy skirt? They are so in right now!
Same prob. Here with the saddlebags and pants that pull....I just try skirts and dresses as much as I can. Looks and feels way better!
You have amazing legs! x Thank you for your consistently excellent content

I don’t wear prints unless it’s a stripe (sometimes). I’m just not drawn to them.
To much print on shapeless tunic yuck thanks for video v good helpful
Comment made on piano keys sooooo funny
Pictures?
Sorry is that a question? Not sure I understand
So those items were in fashion at one time, right? We’re they aging then?
That’s a great question! With only a couple of exceptions (black white outfits) These items were never in style and were always aging, especially the way that they are assembled in outfits. So yes I believe that they were always aging.
Good video, but you speak so fast 😂 ( i am german 🙊 )
Ok you got to me to subscribe lol
I think holding onto long hair that’s not doing anything for you can be aging as well
Baggy trousers for teenager
Which of these outfit agers do you struggle with?
Frumpy, comfy shoes are my downfall, so I have concentrated on buying more contemporary and classic shoes. Still haven’t purchased a pair of pumps. 😬

Your right though v v dated makes me laugh only because I think we have all been caught out
Please, lest talk and show examples.

The top cheap the shorts with plain blouse could be better ???? The green outfit yuck
