    Goodwill often has sales on Mondays. The one by my daughter’s store has great brands. I once got a cashmere and mohair sweater for about $12. The next day I saw it at TJ Maxx on sale for $99! My daughter got an Armani dress for her 6 year old for $1.98.

      I LOVE shopping at thrift stores! Our family calls it "recycling." For me, it's the thrill of the hunt, and what a feeling when you find that great piece, AND at a terrific price!

    It took me a long time to stop buying things that weren't really what I was looking for, and to be patient. So much better to hang on to your money, so you have it when the items that you really wanted finally show up! And also you will not feel guilty, because your wardrobe will then co ordinate and mix and match properly. You will have good quality in the right colours and love your items, and will wear them more often.

    So true, don't rush out and buy something for a special occasion when under pressure - you will end up with something you don't love and will only wear it once

    Recently I went on a bus trip to the Eumundi Markets. 500 different stalls!
    I did shop alone. I did go with intention. I wanted a cropped jacket and found a casual stone coloured jacket. It is also fully reversible and was the last one in the shop.
    I wanted a bamboo top and found a top made from Beachwood that is better than bamboo.
    What a fabulous day!

    Shopping limited stores locally. Just bought 3 dresses from a store that is completely online now, this is a test to see the quality and fit. Hoping they all work. I am mid 60, petite, cancer survivor. Many fit challenges!

    Everyone says…get a black leather moto jacket…me, blonde, pale, and looks like death in black. I listened to you and I’m selling the jacket I never wore, because I need to wear colors that flatter me…like the caramel coloured jacket I actually wear.

    That is exactly right about Nordstroms sales being the same as Target full price. Once I figured that out for myself, I was able to purchase a full wardrobe with better quality fabrics and fit. Plus, Nordstroms returns policy is very helpful when you’re trying to figure out the best fit and style for yourself. It allows you the time to learn if it is an item that you will actually use. We learn and make fewer financial mistakes by not getting clothes that don’t fit quite right or that do not go with our actual lifestyle. I’ve gotten so much better at identifying what will work for me for the longer term. I save time and money and find the experience of shopping and putting an outfit together much more enjoyable.

    Love all your videos I’ve seen. Very informative. This is probably a stupid question but I really have a problem with knowing how clothes should fit. I know you say they should just skim the body. Yesterday I tried on two sizes of a cashmere sweater and got frustrated and left the store. I have big boobs which also doesn’t help.

    • @NadaManley
      @NadaManley  2 місяці тому +1

      @@debbies7487 that is not a stupid question at all. I would encourage you to start taking those daily pictures so you can see how your clothes look at different levels of loose to tightness. So far a fuller bust which I also have do you want a sweater that is cut pretty close to the body without being at all tight. It should just skim without outlining every curve. Clothes that are too tight will amplify your bust. Clothes that are too loose will add weight and you will lose your shape. I love to see pictures of those sweaters. Let me know if you need any more clarification.

      I shop before or after a friend visit, I don’t mention it.
      I figured out they pick what they like for themselves not for me, if I ask for advice.
      Actually , the hardest thing to get is real, honest advice, period. No one wants to hurt your feelings, so you buy what doesn’t work. It’s a shame we can’t get or receive criticism well. As you said, it’s not about you, it’s about the clothes.

      Sometimes I settle because of fit I am small on top , so everything looks too big, and I get used to it looking like that.
      I also had to settle on fit during certain fashion periods, like low rise, and large shoulder pads era was hard for many.

    I have a question. If you are shopping on a budget and you find exactly what you need but it is a miss size and you are a petite, should you buy it and have it altered? How much does altering cost?
    Also, online shopping is tricky. I have made some good purchases and some not so good. In clothing, the item may look like what you want but when you receive it the fabric is not what you wanted or the fit is not good. Then you have to send it back and on some ocassions have to pay to send it back. That unfortunately cuts into your budget.
    Whatever wY you shop you have to be careful.
    I learned not to shop with anyone. True, they will pick what they like.
    I bring a list. Sometimes I try something close to what I am looking for and am pleasantly surprised. Usually I stick to the list. Thank you for this video.

    • @NadaManley
      @NadaManley  Рік тому +1

      Thanks for the comment. It is best to stick to places that have free shipping and free returns if you are on a tight budget. Then you are not losing anything when you send the item back. Using services like Amazons try before you buy or using a site, like Nordstrom, with free shipping and free returns can help. I do think if you are petite and you find some thing at a good price, then paying to have it altered is definitely worth it. It depends, of course on the type of alterations. Hemming is usually pretty inexpensive, but changing the shoulder on a blazer is very expensive. I would check with a local Taylor and get some rates so you can factor those into your purchases. It’s better in my opinion to buy fewer items that you beautifully then to buy more and not love everything you have.
