Thanks for clearing the air about Pinterest! It’s some thing I never thought about until now. Since we all have several things in our closets that were in these “no longer in style” categories, I would love to see a video that would help us tweak old outfits into new ones with a few small changes. I think this would be helpful so that we all don’t think we need to run out and buy a bunch of new clothes. Kind of a “budget friendly” wardrobe update. I look forward to your weekly videos!
THank you so much Lisa!! I LOVE this idea and will definitely do this! It truly isn't about buying all new clothes. It's just about styling certain things differently!
Excellent educational video! I love that you showed outdated silhouettes compared with examples of those that are more current. Wonderful way to re-train our eyes and to help us reshuffle items in our closets. More like this please!
I 100% feel you on this as a fellow petite! Tailored clothes are where it's at for us. Clothes that skim the body but aren't tight and aren't baggy! That's the middle ground that works for me at 5'2".
Would love to see outfits that use these baggy outfits on real bodies! Adding that much bulk make the skinny models look hefty! Loved the one pic of the mature woman - would love to see more images like that
Even though my body type and essences require more fitted pieces, it was helpful for you to call out the dated-fitted outfits so I can make my more fitted pieces more current. There’s always a way to stick to your style lines and proportions and still look modern and not frumpy. I’m learning this fine line for myself. ❤
I shopped all the best stores lately, they all had a mix of baggy & skinny jeans, booties, like they are throwing it all at the wall to see who's still shopping 🤣 Things are cycling so fast now I'm not sure it matters anymore. I'm buying what fits my body, my personality, my lifestyle... MY preferences not some sales hungry industry.
I find that if you follow people, content creators or bloggers who post on Instagram frequently you’ll get more up-to-date inspiration. You really do have to use the right search words and know what the current trends are- I like using YT videos for that. I think the funny thing about this though is that with the way fashion trends are coming back or cycling so quickly a lot of these are in such a skinny jeans are slowly coming back in but just style differently. Like the cardigans when they’re skinny most are worn completely button up to the top or not a super low cut v, and worn tucked in jeans ( straight or wide leg) or trousers as if it were a shirt.
Yes!!! So true on all of this! That's how I wear my more fitted cardigans too, buttoned up as a top. And yes skinny jeans are coming back but styled differently. Thanks for the comment!
Thank you for pointing out that Pinterest is dated ,especially for current fashion. And to check the dates of pics. Very helpful. I liked your contemporary opinions, even if my petite frame can’t wear all of them. I appreciate being knowledgeable. Great video.
The fastest way to look dated is to wear a tunic or other long top untucked, over tight leggings or skinnies (especially capri length ones). Most women my age, 62, still wear this awful look, which not only is decades out of date, but wreaks havoc with the proportions, too. The whole big top over skinny bottom silhouette is completely out of style, it’s not just the details. Size and shape regardless, tuck in those tops, at least in front, or wear short ones. No one will notice a round tummy, we all have them, but they will notice those short, stumpy legs that tunics give us. Because I’m on the short side, and very short-waisted, too, many “cropped” style tops (not bralettes) look great on me, they just cover my waistband or end above my hipbone, perfect. Regular-length tops, sweaters, etc. often end below my leg break, even at mid-thigh, super-dowdy. Beware of those “mature” brands, they all make their top garments tunic-length. That and their 3/4-length sleeves and extra wide necklines - super frumpy! The best thing I ever did for my style was to stop shopping at those brands (and at Boho brands, too).
If I want to know “how to style a green blazer” or something like that, I just have a look and try-on with my extant wardrobe. There’s plenty of great stuff in there already, I just have to experiment a bit. As for oversized blazers, I don’t care if they look more up to date, I’m not buying one. My own are oversized enough as it is, having lost several sizes and they were generous to begin with. I don’t mind the trendy longer length, and yes, those shrunken blazers of around 2000 do look dated, but a classic-fit blazer never goes out of style, in my opinion. They cost too much to be replacing them every year anyway, I want the best quality and I wear them for life.
Anyone else frustrated? Not with your excellent video, but never being able to "catch up" with the trends. By the time I embrace new trends I hear they are outdated 🤔
I'm sorry Bridget! It can definitely feel that way! If you think of fashion in 5 year cycles it can feel less overwhelming. We are in a transition now from one cycle to another so it feels like everything changed at once lol. You are not alone, and timeless pieces will get us all through this! :)
I do like to know what’s modern so I watch your videos and always give them a like. You are very good at this. Thank you. However, if everything becomes dated every few years, down to your jewelry, what about the environment, shopping resale, not living in debt? I like to have modern outfits, but I also like what I like. I think it’s okay to not look like everyone else only in different colors. I have a mix of what is trending, plus I like to add my own take on things. I just think there is a balance to it all.
I happen to come across you channel & have subscribed 👏👏I'm 64 petite & pear shape....a lot of clothes swamp me or I look like I'm wearing my husband's clothes. Can you do a petites suggestions vlog including suggestions on jewellery....love your ear rings by the way😍
Hence my video from Tuesday. I agree! I do think we can go a little less structured than a few years ago but I too skip the oversized styles. They are very hard to wear as a petite!
As a very petite 5') woman, oversized and chunky makes me look fat and dumpy. After 4 babies my tummy will never be flat creating an issue when tucking. Now what?
I get that for sure! I had to C-sections essentially back to back and I’m also petite at 5’2”. For most women clothes that are tailored and not tight or oversized are always going to be the most flattering and tend to be more timeless so while the previous Blazers were shrunken, and the current ones are really oversize, our sweet spot is in the middle. I think I’m going to do a video on this, thanks so much for the comment always start with what flutters you and then see how you can make that look feel modern.
That would be great, Nada! What is it you always say - it’s not cute unless it’s cute on you? 😂 Like the poster you responded to here, I am also barely 5 feet tall; while I am now embracing a somewhat more relaxed silhouette, I find the “oversized everywhere” look pretty laughable- I mean cmon even models look awful in most of it. I do really like the cropped orange bootcut jeans you showed, though. 😊
Just say no to oversized cardis. You will look swamped and dumpy. The circle scarf looks sooo dated. What is it with everyone wearing trousers that are too short? They look stupid.
Whenever I am on Pinterest and like an outfit, I always check the dates. Also, I go through my outfit boards and purge them regularly. I’ve noticed that some of the images are quite old and have been around for a long time. The issue is that these dated outfits keep popping up. Thanks for pointing this out for us.
The truth is that every stylist wants women to look like themselves… your style is not everyone else’s style .. every stylist here promotes the same thing… We would have to just work and make money for clothes 😅 if we’re going to update our closet… We just should wear whatever we feel like it … From my perspective not many people pay attention to anyone on the street 😅
Thank you for the comment. It did make me giggle a little because nobody dresses like I do. I have very eclectic style. I also have a really large Facebook group and a lot of personal clients. I like every kind of style as long as it’s done well but honestly I get that not everybody’s into style and that’s totally OK. I don’t do it for other people or for people on the street. It’s a form of self care and self expression. Hope you enjoyed the video.
I like baggy now but not always. To wear oversize well I find that the posture has to be erect. Inner self must be confident. The clothing pieces are not propping me up, it is the other way around. It has little to do with weight and height (am 5’3” 120lb, a daily swimmer). When I walk tall and feel good, my baggy jeans and oversized shirt jacket (over a tee) don’t make me look frumpy.
I only looked at Pinterest styles once. I found an image of a woman wearing a set that I adored, but realized that there was no information on how I could get it or something similar. I never went back. I agree, many, if not most, outfit images on all social media are really dated. I still see painted-on skinnies with long tunics, stilettos and infinity scarves on the net everywhere! Also, most outfits have 4 or 5-inch heels, that’s why they look so great, but they’re unrealistic. You know the models only put them on for a few quick photos, then took them off to walk back to her car.
Style constantly changes but I find that most outdated outfits are more flattering than the newer styles. I perfer styles that make me look leaner not bigger. I rather be a bit outdated but have more confidence in what I wear.
I totally agree on most of this and I see your point. I think at the end of the day, the most flattering closer ones that are tailored not tight but not baggy either.
Great video! I had that mint green jeans, striped navy top outfit in 2011! Haha! Pinterest is frustrating because once you pin an outfit, it just shows more outfits that look similar. So much for finding new ideas. And it used to show recent pins from other pinners that you follow, so if you followed a group of bloggers or influencers, you would get some recent pins. But not anymore. I just use it now to pin things I see online elsewhere, but some retail sites have pinterest blocked, so I have to save an image to photos and then upload into a pin I create. Too much work.
Omygoodness that is so annoying! Sad that it used to make our lives easier and now it's a little too complicated. Thanks for the comment! (And we all had that outfit with the mint jeans lol!)
Pinterest did nothing for me . Made a couple of pages of fashions but now what? Couldn’t find them to buy If I could they were expensive No where to actually wear them

@@NadaManley YES Please! I have some of those old images and didn't realize how you can't filter by time posted or how old an image is!

Thank you so much Lynn! I'll definitely be doing more like this! I so appreciate the comment!
Sadly the dated, fitted styles look much better than the baggy, almost frumpy modern styles, which, being petite, I get lost in
Classic fitted garments never go out of style.
I 100% feel you on this as a fellow petite! Tailored clothes are where it's at for us. Clothes that skim the body but aren't tight and aren't baggy! That's the middle ground that works for me at 5'2".

Sheila - totally agree! If baggy is modern, I'm happy to be out of date!

Yes!! Mine does too but I can update that silhouette with tweaks rather than wearing things that are not flattering.
True! Also, I think that whatever we wear, it’s important that you wear the clothes and the clothes doesn’t wear you.
100%! Great advice! Thanks for the comment!
Love your videos 😊 You couldn't pay me enough to leave the house in the baggy denim on denim pyjama look though!
LOL! I couldn't pull that off either! So glad you like the videos. Thanks so much for the comment!
fabulous topic

In other words, I'm favoring the "slow fashion" and "no expiration date" "trend" 😉
Yes! I do think they're trying to see what people will buy because the clothes are ALL OVER THE PLACE in terms of style and trend. It's crazy!
@@MorningClarity that will ALWAYS be in style! Yes!

Used to use Pinterest to give ideas for my Stitchfix stylist. Unfortunately fitted cropped cardigans work better for me than the long oversize ones.

Thank you Dee Dee! I really appreciate the comment!
By and large, the modern outfits you shared aren't attractive.
I get that. They are not for everyone but hopefully you find some options you do like out there. They are not all my taste either
