Excellent, excellent performance!! I think this is the best I've seen! I love the way she jumps sideways (and lands), at once both light and breezy but also forceful, intent. That juxtaposition is everywhere in this and it's perfect. Gentleness with strength, grace with starkness, soft but unapologetic, beautiful and steadfast. And in her face, her body---she is youthful, and yet something there is so very old. She is the absolute embodiment of the Dryad Queen, she who rules over the spirits of the trees. Maya Schonbrun's version of this is breathtakingly lovely and makes watching it timeless, but this---has made me look at the dance an entirely new way. I see the Queen of the Dryads, not the dancer.
The way she dances is so lovely and controlled. I just love how the background remains so still, as of she's a figure in a painting come to life and the rest of the figures are frozen in time. And the costumes are just perfection.
I watched so many great dancers do this variation but I always come back here. Alina definitely performs this best. I don’t think even Alina herself could replicate how perfect this particular performance is!
The violin solo, the dancer, the background characters…I don't know about you…but to me, this is the epitome of a Romantic ballet (even though it's Classical).
This performance in particular is the best variation ever!! I come back time and time again just to relive this moment. I honestly don’t think anyone can dance this variation better, not even Alina herself!
Absolutely stunning. Nobody surpasses her in this gorgeous variation. It’s almost as if it was choreographed for her. Out of all the Principals at Mariinsky there is something so special about Alina. Her beautiful face and her exquisite musicality. Such a pleasure to watch. If you see baby Alina in videos from her classes at Vaganova you can see how her face and poise already caught your eye. A true artist and a joy to watch.
OLTREMODO BRAVA. BIGHIN GIULIO RENZO
Damn i was so excited. Finally! A fairly simple (ish) variation that I could totally do as an intermediate ballet student and a not-quite beginner en pointe... and then the Italian fouettes at the end. EPIC tears.
There is an easy substitute of italian fouettes you could do tho! you can simply do these penche-ish arabesques towards left and right repeatedly. I have seen that in place of Italian fouettes in many dancers.
This is a fiendishly difficult variation, and for me, Alina Somova and Alice Letestu do it best. But yes, I’ve seen a video of Yulia Stepanova where she replaces the Italian fouettés with the penche-ish arabesques. That’s cheating in my opinion. 🤨 😉
Absolutely beautiful!!! There is almost no sound from her jumps; lending of her jumps is quite, and the whole performance is very light, so well balanced, and absolutely unique.
I dare say I don't think anybody could ever dance this variation better than she.
Agree. Except for maybe Zakharova
By far she is the best
and Sylvie Guillem
Alla Sizova. She's the real Queen of this variation.
Absolutely agree.

I ve also caught the feeling of looking at someone from the other world, she is the closest to them...

Alina is the ultimate Dryad Queen. No one comes even close to Somova's sheer perfection in interpreting of Petipa's text.
Indeed, everything flows beautifully.
Absolutely right, it looks like this scene was meant for her.
This is the golden standard of Mariinsky Ballet
The violin solo, the dancer, the background characters…I don't know about you…but to me, this is the epitome of a Romantic ballet (even though it's Classical).
Легкая ,пластичная,воздушная!Прекрасно❤

Alina is so wonderful here! I think she really shines in fairy-like roles like this variation and the Sugar Plum Fairy.
Beautiful softness in her jumps fantastic extension and control.
this is so calming.
Она настоящая королева и королева именно дриад. Как же легка и изящна! Она соткана из воздуха💖
Oh so perfect..how could she be so airy and lovely..favourite variation
Except Zakharova. She feels even lighter. But this is great to, really rgreat.
Her extensions!!! ❤️❤️❤️

What a graceful and precise ballerina she is.

The best Queen of the Dryads and best Italian Fouettes in 17 years old
Her Italian fouettés were practically in slow motion. Alina is remarkable.
The background make me think of Edgar Degas
I think she has come to the earth to act this variation from the heaven. Just lovely.
That was too impressive!! Esp. the way her legs get into that high!!
She gives the impression she is floating. She deceives the very eyes.
She will always be my favorite dancer.
her grande fouettes are so smooth and light🌹
I love Alina Somova. I could watch her dance for hours
YES ALINA!🙌 Legs FOREVER!!! MY FAV IN THIS VARIATION!!!🔥
Stupenda, incantevole.....Tecnica perfetta, bellezza ed espressività.
The costumes make them look like they're in a painting especially with the background
Beautiful background and wonderful performance!
Stupenda è dir poco❤💐💐💐

i’m an intermediate student and never worked on italian fouettés yet my teacher said we’re doing it anyways soooo T_T
There is an easy substitute of italian fouettes you could do tho! you can simply do these penche-ish arabesques towards left and right repeatedly. I have seen that in place of Italian fouettes in many dancers.
this comment is a year old now but girl lilac fairy would have been perfect

She is like the best dancer ever 💕🤍
Браво Алина!!!!
Beautiful
is there a name for those turns at the end when she whips her leg to turn her body around while staying rn pointe?
+affectivity They are called "italian fouettés". They are so difficult !
Italian fouettés
Thank you both so much! They look hard. I remember Nanette Glushak of ABT doing them onstage.
Yes, they are very difficult indeed.
THE BEST QUEEN OF DRYADS
She is perfect
amazing
One of a kind.
이건 ㄹㅇ소모바 입덕 영상임
Bravo!
just wow
PERFEITA
Magni
Miracle
This variation is so ballet
1:20 can someone tell me the ballet terminology for this step??
These are Italian fouettes, one of the most difficult steps in ballet, and I have never seen them done better.
@@vivienne4934 thank you😭
Italian fouettes
I did this variation this year #2018 age 11
👏👏👏👏👏🤗🕊🌹🌹🌹

Someone has to confirm me that her legs aren't feathers
Rasgada umilhou nóis
Not for american
Ķf
She always looks so heavy and just flings around hoping her limbs will land in the right spot. I don't understand how she will ever replace Zakharova.
Renee C “ she looks heavy”??? What on earth are you talking about ??
Renee C she does not need to replace anyone ; she stands on her own quite well!
If you wanna watch someone heavy, check Misty Copeland.
