This lecture helped me in several ways. I fell and pulled my humerus completely out of the socket and down ~2". I'm trying to decide whether or not to have total reverse shoulder replacement surgery or to continue with PT. To my amazement, after 28 sessions of PT and working at home, my humerus has drawn back up 1/2". I am learning as much as I can so as to make the best possible decision. I made a lot of notes during this lecture. I really appreciate that Dr. DiPaola said that patients who are engaged and who learn about their health/condition do the best during recovery. Thanks for all of this information, and for encouraging us to learn, and to listen to our bodies.

All right folks surgery is fine. You won’t have use of your arm for 6 weeks. You are looking at a 6 month rehab. What if you don’t have insurance. It’s a15-20 procedure. The surgeon gets about 1590, that facility 12,000( momentum here in Wichita Falls. And they 39:46 want it all up front. So I found a way around it. Buy dr kitsch’s book “ shoulder pain” with the blue cover and the girl hanging from a bar on Amazon 12 bucks. I found this thru bob and brad physical therapists on you tube. I hang from a bar for 30 seconds 12 times a day( grip gives out) and have found relief. Then I bought power straps( they wrap around a bar and you hold them and you can last longer) and did 220( I weigh 225) and held for as long as I could. Guess what. I just tiled my bathroom all the way to the ceiling with a full tear( mri confirmed) with retraction to the 11’o clock position. I’m the pharmacist in charge at a small pharmacy. I passed on the insurance as it was crappy. In April I may reup and get the surgery but as it stand I doubt I’ll need it. My injury was in the summer. July or august. I don’t remember. I was trying to catch my dog that escaped and landed full force on my left elbow. Where is that energy going. Right up to the shouldr Once it happened I felt it but blew it off. Gradually got worse and worse. Had injections of kenalog. Didn’t touch. Finally got a mri in October. I guess I’ve been a dedicated work out person. My physical therapist couldn’t believe what I could do. I turned her on to the book . I improved the cure with the pull down on 220 pounds via the lat bar. It does not hurt. The only thing that hurts is those power straps digging into my wrists. I do all the exercise everyday. I don’t fuck around. Stretchs and the whole bit. Hopefully this helps someone. If you have a partial tear they’ll try to scare you into getting surgery. Don’t. I have a full tear and am doing great. The board certified orthopedic surgeon that wrote the book also had a full tear. Do whatever you want. These surgeons are not cutting edge . I research and learn and I am because when it happens to you and you don’t have insurance or 20,000 lying around you are motivated.

My surgeon just billed Aetna two separate codes for Rotator Cuff Repair, totaling nearly $60,000. Of course I had a 5cm tear in my pitching arm [former is more accurate], plus he used TWO anchors. I hope this heals, and at 53 I have no delusions of a return to the diamond, I just hope I can throw again, not pitch.

I’m watching these videos because I suffered a bad car accident ( 19 year old plowed me T bone because he ran a red light ) it’s been 4 months and even as I type on my phone it’s hurting my shoulder which I do feel might be a rotator cuff issue…. I have been complaining about deep arm pain since the accident with ALL the signs of this torn rotator cuff stuff…. My muscle therapist has thought this since day one and as it worsens I’m now going to my primary to tell him I believe it’s my rotator cuff !!! I just turned 49 and had absolutely ZERO issues with my shoulder until this accident and IT SUCKS

Hang in there and do the strengthening & conditioning PT exercises. They help! Similar to you- I’m 48 and had zero right shoulder issues until a Doc prescribed Ciprofloxacin- a drug know to cause tendon ruptures.
Diligently doing PT exercises and they are helping.

This is by far the most well-explained video on shoulder pain. I blew my right side out pushing myself from a seated position about 2 months ago I knew exactly when it happened. Sleeping is the worst. Im 62 male and everything is starting to break. Ive already had two spinal fusions so im kinda done getting cut on at this point 🥵🥵

I had a partial rotator cuff tear ,left shoulder. I've been going to PT I felt like I was starting to progress . I did a new stretch with a band and felt instant pain back in my neck , shoulder and deltoid . Is this normal a month after a extended debridement?

I tore my left rotator Cuff 9 years or so ago with a dirt bike accident! A trip to the ER and an MRI shortly after that determined I had tore my rotator cuff. I was referred by my family Doctor to a surgeon in a neighboring city and after the Doctor looked a my MRI said that in all his years Doing this type of surgery my tear was the worst he had ever see. That being said he said he would do the surgery but, my left bicep would be located opposite my elbow and because he would have to search for the torn tendon! I decided to not have the surgery because of that deformation that I would have after surgery. I deal with the pain on a daily basis and am sure not to lift anything above my head

I feel like I'm going to doctors to educate the doctors. They are all the same cuz they all went to the same school. There should be a new rule taught at every school. No overhead exercises, fingers up the wall crawl, until you have full range of motion below the shoulders. They are only causing shoulder impingement that is adding to the problem and pain. If you do not have full range of motion below the shoulders, you cannot lift your arms above your shoulders without impingement. You have to be able to fully externally rotate your arms. You cannot bend your elbow at 90° and then abduct your arm above your head. Why are the doctors even prescribing these finger wall crawls, for people who can't raise their arms above their head? Get full range of motion below the shoulders first.

Thank you so much for all the information you’ve brought to us. I’m in my 2nd month post op from rotator cuff repair ( right shoulder) ( was completely torn in half). Bicep tendon was off shoulder bone, went in for surgery to start with for bone spur. Next I do have spur in my left shoulder , I’m very worried that my surgeon will find my left shoulder in same condition I know at the end of your video you did say usually if you have the rotator cuff tear in one shoulder it’s likely the other shoulder will could be in the same condition
I’m actually going into my 3rd month starting August 3rd , I feel like I’ve made so much progress in physical therapy on my surgery ( right) shoulder that I’m already for the left shoulder to get repaired and fixed In your professional opinion do you think it’s been long enough ( my right shoulder was operated on May 3rd , 2021 ) so 3 months on August 3rd I enjoyed hearing your information Bc there’s so much I didn’t know about everything I went through during my surgery. My wonderful Surgeon explained a lot to me of what he got into after he started his surgery on my shoulder. I had no idea until after I woke up Yes it was scary and I knew I was in for a long haul in after care especially Physical Therapy. I feel ready to move on my pain has went from a 10 to a 3 or 4. Some days even less
Again thank you so much for all the extra info. I’ll see my surgeon soon then he will tell me when he’s ready to operate on left shoulder !!!! Not rushing but I’m determined to get relief of pain , plus I do have numbness down the left shoulder from shoulder to pinky finger and ring finger. My surgeon wants to fix my left shoulder to see if the numbness goes away after this repair.... if it doesn’t go away, I’ll have to see a Neuro Surgeon Bc it could be pinched nerve in my neck....C-8 not looking forward to involving my neck area but it seems it could be my problem if not maybe it’s only the bone spur/ rotator cuff same as right side was
Appreciate your time if your staff could reply i would so much appreciate that. TY 😊

Thank you it was very informative. I would like to know in your opinion?I have 3 of the 4 tear, 100% tearabd little over 50% in the third. He said that there was a good chance that he had to use animal cadaver, to complete the tendons. In your opinion what is the likelihood of a re-tear even after complete recovery? 6:30 muscles change with age...your wrong. Muscles that you dont use atrophy. The solution is Exercise, lift weights and eat a quality diet consisting mainly of animal products. Plant based products can be inflammatory due to the anti-nutrients in them ( oxylates, lectins, etc ), we all have heard of gluten by now.
