    Whenever a channel has a clickbait title that says they'll save me money I know it's usually full of crap but I've seen enough of your videos to know that you care more about helping out the Goldwing community over making a quick buck so it's worth a watch to see what products you actually like and aren't just getting paid to push.

      @@GoldwingDocs Absolutely! People underestimate the value of a good battery. Beyond just reliability you get a stronger spark, better performance, easier starting and brighter lights, etc...

    I have had a new battery last only two weeks and because there was a short in the new battery it left me stranded in the middle of nowhere and also took out my alternator. Aftermarket alternators may only last two years, that is how long mine lasted. My original alternator lasted 22 years. I also want to add that I have the Battery Tender connection and use it often.

      Batteries can and do experience manufacturing defects, and an internal short is not an uncommon one.

    I love the MotoBatt batteries! I've used them for years! I had a Yuasa as well. It was also good. I have a battery tender that goes on any time I'm not riding. It definitely makes a huge, huge difference!! Great stuff, Scott! Thanks for sharing!

    Battery tender makes bigger units for other battery applications. I own a 36V and 48V for charging golf carts. I have had great luck with their products.

    I reuse it on mine Dinah and I ended up getting eight years out of a battery by using that tender it does work I've used it on several bikes

    Thanks Scott. i took your advice from the forum 2 years ago and got my Jr then. I've told my young rocket scientist Shop Partner about it and he thinks I'm full of **it. Then 2.5 years after he bought a new AGM for his Triumph 900, (been sitting with problems he is having issues fixing) the battery Died. Still holds volts but almost no current power. Again I said I got a Jr right here, just keep it hooked up to make your battery last and again I get the guffaw about it. These young dudes today got sheet for brains and will not listen to "Good Advice" so I told him well its your money and your battery. Just go buy a new one and leave it sitting on a shelf for a couple more years and maybe by the time you have to buy it again you MIGHT figure out what I been telling you is true.......Sigh. Youth and their arrogance.
    Now I have 3 of them cause I got 3 bikes I ride. A canyon carver 600, a "muscle" 1100 and my cruiser Ol wing. All kept fresh with a Jr tending to their needs. Hoot !!
    P.S. I live literally 2 miles to the Northern Skyline Drive Entrance experience. That lil 600 just gobbles them curves up..........and I've had the bigger boyz try and hang with me. They simply cannot. Gives me a big thrill to beat dat azz.....but, in reality straight-aways, they easily catch up but the twisties are many and the straights are rather short. That and the Park Rangers love giving out Tickets. Waze help a lot with that. Only gotten 1 so far.

    Scott, great video, perfect explanation for the AGM battery and the need for a battery maintainer. I have had my Tender for years, got it originally because my Shadow VT750 would die in a week if I didn't ride it all the time, when I moved to my GL1500, I got a new pigtail and installed it right away, and put an AGM in after the old battery blew a cell. IIRC, I may be on year 5 with my AGM. Am dating a lady who recently got into bikes and has her own VT750, and guess what she's getting for Christmas? A Battery Tender. Bought it about 2 weeks ago and she will receive it on New Year's when she comes down.

    After buying my gl1100 the 1st that needed replacing was ......... you guessed it right!! I bought a Li-ion battery. After now five years it still cranks like a charm😎. If i arrive i allways disconnect the - from the battery. The gl1100 drains 10 mA with the ignition key out. Before i knew this i drained the battery twice to as low as 3,5V. Oeps!! I managed with a lab powersupply to gently ticklefeed it gradually back up to 14V. (Adjustable Volts and Amps starting with 3,5V and virtually no Amp's. When reaching 9V i cranked up the Amps to 2A. Over the winterstop (3 months) there is hardly Voltage-loss, i reload it to 14V, and it cranks realy fast. It is also way lighter and smaller.
    My 2nd bike (Yamaha xvz1200 Venture) because the battery is build into the "tank" i have build in a mass-interruption-switch. Learned from the GL1100 i measured the current when switched off and it is 40mA!! Maybe i will replace it (as needed) with a Li-ion. Will give less weight sitting high up in the bike.

    I always use a battery tender on my Wing and my Hog. It’s a good practice and they exercise the batteries

    Been using the Jr for many years and agree, works great. Going to have to get the Voltmeter. They also have a Battery Tender USB Charger Adaptor which could come in handy, too. Great stocking stuffers for myself...

      @@GoldwingDocs Have you plugged a tire inflator in to that 12V adapter? That would be the only reason I can think of that I'd need that. Might be more handy than my current coverage (cell phone and a credit card ;)

      It would depend on whether the fuse on the Battery Tender harness is rated for it. The wiring is quite substantial, and could handle it, but you might need to upgrade that fuse in order to handle the current of an inflator.

    AGM batteries, in my experience, don't provide the cranking power PLUS the coil voltage for starting that a good flooded plate battery does, on a GL1500. The de-sulfating feature of a Battery Minder is the key to a long lifespan. The Army has gone back to flooded plate batteries because AGM manufacturers have moved to Mexico and quality has suffered; also, desulfators work, sometimes getting 14 years of documented use from a flooded plate battery.

    As always, great info Scott! I have to admit, I'm not as consistent as I should be about plugging my bike in after a ride as I should be. I'm hoping that if I pick up one of the Battery Tender LCD Voltage Indicators my findings may kick me into the "hey look dummy" mode and get me back on track.

    I use gas mat in all my bikes. I have gotten as much as 8 years out of one of them. I do always use a tender.

      Glad to hear it! A quality AGM battery like I show here, and the use of a Battery Tender will pretty much guarantee you long lived batteries!

    I bought my GL1500 two years ago and the guy just bought an AGM battery which my bike needs with the high amp alternator installed on it, that battery didn't last a year and I had the tender Jr on it and it was wired for it but I had the one I bought to try out GW's as most I was looking at needed batteries, so far I've had that on my bike for a year and I hope it lasts that long, I try to run it at once a day when it is not raining but when it was too hot to ride in Fla for a month even at night I had it plugged in, so hope It lasts way longer than the last that is now on my big twin mower I have to jump it off after a few days, but will fire up the next day no problem

      Something's definitely not right then. The AGM battery, particularly if it's on a Battery Tender, should last for MANY years. I've had the MotoBatt AGM on my GL1500 now for several years, and it's still like new:

      @@GoldwingDocs he may have got a bad one and they only warranty them for 6 months even though they cost as much as the ones for cars with a two-year warranty

    I have the same battery tender. runs off a 15 watt solar panel. made for rv. never plug it in. never had a problem

      Yes, the solar Battery Tender is great! Works especially well for people who store their Wings in a shed with no electricity.

      @@GoldwingDocs And who cares if it snows or rains for 4-5 days in a row ?? Eventually the sun will come out........and the Solar Jr starts up the happy battery process all over again. No worries.

    I got 8 years out of my last battery. Never plugged it in, never jumped it, started it once a season in winter to top it off. Not sure I need a tender..

    Hi Scott, my name is David ,and I have a 2002 Honda Goldwing 1800 and I have a question about the battery and alternator that I just bought. My question is, how can you tell if the battery or the alternator is bad. This is on a Trike and it has a volt meter on it. Put when I go to turn the key on volt meter shows a battery and says low but the voltage is going up to 13.3 showing what could my problem be ?

    Great information. Do you have pictures of the setup around your battery? It looks like you have an extended fuse block. Is the tender connected through that block or directly to the battery?

    Scott what year is your Wing? Would you recommend the 1500 over the 1800. I am in Burlington Ontario looking at a 1990 and a 99. Haven’t started to actually look at them yet, may wait until spring.

      I actually prefer my 1500 to the 1800. I have long legs, and my knees get very sore on the 1800 after just a couple of hours.

      @@GoldwingDocs I have sat on a 2019 and my legs felt cramped as well and I have a bad left knee and only has so much of a bend. Does the 1500 have an adjustable seat? The 1990 has 166000 Kim’s on it which is not that much for a wing. Thanks for the reply.
