Discover Islamic Art: The Umayyad Citadel

The Umayyad Citadel, known in Arabic as Jabal al-Qal'a, is a well-defined natural elevation at the heart of ancient and modern Amman. The citadel once comprised of a palace complex, a plaza, a congregational mosque and domestic quarters within the fortified walls. Archeologist Mohammad Najjar, former Director of the Friends of Archaeology and Heritage and board member of the Museum With No Frontiers, walks us through the palace’s magnificent architecture and citadel grounds.
