The science of the arabian golden age did not come from islam nor from Al Andalus. It came from the plunder of Constantinople, which was the centre of academia, until the ottomans confiscated it. Islam specifically prevents muslims from understanding the truth of God and the origins of humanity by removing all the directions about the cosmic birthplace of mankind and making it a sin to "worship the stars".

La Alhambra es un deleite para los sentidos, y sin lugar a dudas una de las maravillas del mundo más bellas y elegantes por su arquitectura y su delicada artesania. Please don't call Moors Arabs; most of those people responsible for the architecture and the building of this magnificent edifice were Berber, so please, let's not eclipse their achievements and ethnicity.
This is absolutely breathtaking! Both architecture and camerawork, allowed this beauty to reach this many people. It absolutely went on my list of places I want to visit.
Magnificently presented and filmed Manuel! My experience of the Alhambra complex, on a visit in 1986, has never been equaled anywhere else. Such a profound architectural and landscape beauty. Truly a paradise!
this is such a beautiful video, so well researched and so obviously brimming with passion. my grandma was from northern Spain (San Sebastian) so whenever we discussed Spanish art and architecture, we were mostly relegated to Gothic standards of beauty like Barcelona and Santiago de Compostela. Never ever did I hear her talk about Granada except to denote southern Spain as filled with “moros and maquetos.” However, I’ve always thought that southern Spain was the most beautiful part of the country. So many centuries of Arabic and North African influence, the amazing Mediterranean climate AND THE FOOD! In my opinion its just as complex and beautiful as northern Spanish culture.
You have been very correct in your comment, the greatness of this country is the great diversity of culture, art, languages, styles and geography so different in a single country, this makes Spain very rich in any aspect, everything is beautiful but different, greetings from my city Malaga!!
I was at the Alhambra this year in June. Spent the whole afternoon there. There is so much to see. Breathtaking. I will have to go back to see the Palace of King Charles V and visit the Albacin area. Can't wait to go back. Thanks for this video.

Bravo to Manuel Bravo! I've watched several video guides to the Alhambra and this is by far the most comprehensive and authoritative. Extremely well-researched and presented. To combine an early morning in the Alhambra with a necessary relaxation in the Banos Arabes and supper on a terrace in the Albaicin is one of the most exquisitely perfect experiences (of many) offered by Andalucia. Your content enhances (and reminds me) of the experience thank you. It would be fascinating to make a programme about ancient hydrology. The similarities between these aspects of Islamic architecture and say the Villa Adriana with its vast reflective pools and complex water structures are very striking. The skills involved every bit as dazzling as the latticework but largely invisible.

@@sandraleiva1633 I thought very hard about using the word "Islamic" because I so wanted to avoid stimulating irrational and ugly comments like yours. Sighs.
@@deanedge5988 It's not ugly or irrational. There are many words you can use that doesn't describe architecture in religious terms. You see your prejudice shows when you reduce a varied array of peoples into one neat box. Such as their religion. You do not use Christian architecture to describe French, Italian and English architecture. You use terms such as Baroque, Gothic or neo-byzantine etc. But you see Europeans as varied and other peoples as monolithic. That's a very European prejudice. If that hurts you then so be it. It should stimulate you to learn more and grow your vocabulary and understanding. For example Hispanic Islamic narrows it down as opposed to Islamic. Hispanic architecture is not similar to Indian Islamic architecture. You can also use Andalusian architecture, Mozarabic architecture because not everyone was Muslim. You can use Arabesque. So many words that doesn't narrow things down to a religion brought from far far away. You don't do that for European Christian lands so don't do it to other religions either. Or if you want just describe everything in Christian lands as Christian architecture because Christians designed them irregardless of where in Christendom they originated or in what age they took place. At least that would be fair. Have a great day.
@@sandraleiva1633 Yes the Islamic patterns and writing, as well as gardens referencing the Koran surely had nothing to do with Islam. Just as the churches formed in the shape of a cross couldn't have had anything to do with Christ. It is all relative to the viewpoint and norms of the viewer. To the christian spaniard it is islamic architecture. Just as to the Muslim in Syria, the many christian buildings from the time christianity was dominant could be seen as christian. (As well as whatever subcategory level of specificity you might prefer.) The thing about islam is it is a theocracy where church and state are one thing. Christianity separates the roles of church and state to a far greater degree. The class of architecture is Islamic and subclass would have more precise definitions you seek. The Islamic colonizer was deliberately bringing Islamic philosophy to their design decisions. They would not be offended in recognizing this as the script looping everywhere is talking about Allah Akbar. "God is great." Total mystery as to what that means.
@@sandraleiva1633 The palace was built by Muslims, and the calligraphy integrated into the decor are verses in the Qur'an. Islam permits no separation of religion and rulership -- what we call "church" and "state," in the Western world. The Alhambra includes not only audience chambers and offices for governance, as well as residences for those who rule, but also mosques. As stated repeatedly in the description, the layout of the primary courtyards reflects Paradise, as it is described in Qur'an. Why would anybody describe it as anything *other than* "Islamic Architecture"?
Wow. One could argue that the Alhambra is the greatest architectural structure from antiquity ever built. It is truly unique. Thank you for the education!

Spain is an amazing country on the European continent, its architecture is the definition of the Mediterranean (Europeans, Arabs, Berbers and Jews). Very well done! The narration was a good mix of the overview of the setting, the plan of the complex and the decoration. Sensitively and astutely presented. There is so much life and motion built into the design and decoration -- nothing feels static, there don't seem to be any hard boundaries, just endless openings into interior and exterior spaces and changing elevations with the light and the breezes and the water all constantly in motion reinterpreting the appearance of the built space moment to moment. It really is a paradise on earth.

Islam specifically prevents muslims from understanding the truth of God and the origins of humanity by removing all the directions about the cosmic birthplace of mankind and making it a sin to "worship the stars".
@@KozmicKarmaKoala The conquistadors were Jews. Don't speak if you don't know history. Go listen to the Ode against the jews by Abu Ishaq to see the sentiments between muslims and jews.
Beautiful! I especially liked the Arabic calligraphy that adorned the walls, presenting the text of the Quran.
This is the best video I have seen of the Alhambra Manuel!! You take the viewer on a journey into the past and yet keeping all the elements that make the Alhambra so magnificent alive. Spectacular video footage.
👏👏👏
Please don't call Moors Arabs; most of those people responsible for the architecture and the building of this magnificent edifice were Berber, so please, let's not eclipse their achievements and ethnicity.

This is absolutely breathtaking! Both architecture and camerawork, allowed this beauty to reach this many people. It absolutely went on my list of places I want to visit.
Magnificently presented and filmed Manuel! My experience of the Alhambra complex, on a visit in 1986, has never been equaled anywhere else. Such a profound architectural and landscape beauty. Truly a paradise!
Really excited to visit the Alhambra after seeing your video!
this is such a beautiful video, so well researched and so obviously brimming with passion. my grandma was from northern Spain (San Sebastian) so whenever we discussed Spanish art and architecture, we were mostly relegated to Gothic standards of beauty like Barcelona and Santiago de Compostela.
Thank you for recognising the beauty of it!
Sorry to say this but your grandma was a s... of a person. I hope you inherited as little as possible from her.
That was a wonderful tour. Thank you for sharing.
Although I have visited the Alhambra in person, your excellent video footage and commentary really enriched my appreciation of it. Thank you so much!
Same here!
MasyaAllah Tabarakallah ❤️ Much love from Indonesia 🇮🇩
Extraordinarily beautiful filming, Manuel. You did justice to this world treasure, al Alhambra.
Gracias Manuel, beautiful insight and very helpful for a visit! Greetings from Granada!
The Artists who produced this most amazing work of Art which the World has never seen the like of, were following Prophet Muhammad instruction who said: Allah Loves that when you do something to do it excellently. Bravo Manuel! You are truly an artist!
Bravo to Manuel Bravo! I've watched several video guides to the Alhambra and this is by far the most comprehensive and authoritative. Extremely well-researched and presented. The ground plans are particularly helpful in orientating the potential visitor and the filming is of high quality throughout.
This was absolutely captivating! The narrator transported me to the palace and the royal gardens. The lattice work and views thru the windows are are simply stunning!
I would ❤ to see this in person.
Lucky you to experience and know the Alhambra. The Alhambra is lucky to have you!
The Alhambra is a very special, poetic and atmospheric place. I've been visiting it every year for ten years now and I still can't say I've had enough of it.

Only made more beautiful by the music in this clip. Thanks, Manuel Bravo.
Why is the architecture described as Islamic? It's Spanish architecture. The people just happen to be Muslim but where also Jewish and Christian. Do you describe all architecture by Christians as Christian architecture? You don't. The ingenious of the Hispanic peoples who created the Alhambra had nothing to do with religion but with the people creating it.
(As well as whatever subcategory level of specificity you might prefer.)
The thing about islam is it is a theocracy where church and state are one thing.
It's not antique lol. But, yes, from an artistic point of view, it's absolutely breathtaking
@khabibtime8830Saracen means Arabic, the term existed long before Islam
it is greek term referring to the Arabs of the levant. It ultimately comes from Arabic Sharkyin, which means Easterners. The term was coined before Islam. Just like the term Moor, also referred to the Arabs of the levant. Hence the Byzantine emperor Morris who came from the Arab city of Arabisus

Your views of the interior spaces are mind-blowing. It's interior beauty is unearthly, harmonius and very spiritual. This is clearly architecture from a superior civilization.

I was there in 1973 during the Franco era. Sorry to say I have not been able to return since. They have done a lot of restoration work and from your video, it looks fabulous! Finaly I saw the history that I learnt when I was senior high student 17 years ago. a moment when we ddint have youtube. The palace is soooo beautiful, fresh, n detail. Thank u so much...
Breathtaking, amazing! I am not sure if this is one of the wonders of the world, but it should be. Almost every surface is decorated. It is a miracle that it survived basically as it was built. Absolutely exceptional piece of art! (I am curious how they got the water up there - there must have been some viaduct from a higher ground nearby?). I wasn't sure where I would go next, but this is the place to visit for sure. If we humans were smarter than we are now, we could make this world a better place, creating similar settings to live. This was created in the "Middle Ages", and no modern architecture can match it; it is the ultimate achievement!!! Thank you for the video.

Alhambra was not made with Arabs, it was made by Moroccan Berbers, a lot of things in there like the zellige tiles appeared for the first time in Morocco, not every Islamic architecture left in Spain and Portugal is Arab.
@blutherhood3893 Al hamra was built by an Arab ummayad caliph and the name itself and type of architecture is Arab. Berbers don't create anything

@@sandraleiva1633 no this is not Spanish architecture, this is Andalucian architecture. Upon conquering the city, the Spaniards expelled the population that built this palace. Every last Arab, Muslim, Jewish, non-Catholic person was basically exiled for good.
@@BSL_bsl You are hilarious in your ignorance. I never said Spanish architecture. I said Hispanic. I guess you don't understand that the Arabs and Berbers were less than 5% of the population of Hispania for 700 years. The population were the native Hispanic peoples. I guess you must be from the USA were you hijacked the word Hispanic to describe Americans from Spanish speaking America. Hispanic comes from Hispania which is the whole peninsula. In modern times Spain, Portugal and Andorra. In ancient times the Celts, Iberians, Tartessians and Basque peoples. All Hispanic. Just as Scotland, England and Wales are Britanic.
