Armies (Turkey has 4), parts of the Gendamerie (Military Police) Command and the Presidential Guard Regiment couped in an attempt to try and reestablish Atatürk's Kemalist ideals. They had several warships, 35 planes (24 of which were fighter jets), 74 tanks, 172 armored vehicles and 37 helicopters along with around 11 thousand soldiers. They failed - spectacularly.
Erdogan did much for Turkey and usually relies on these projects to bring about economic growth. Mega projects help keep the economic wheel of Turkey rolling. Erdogan already proved he isn't going anywhere as long as he has the support of the population through elections.

We should take "literacy rates" with a grain of salt. They're political in nature and susceptible to inflation by local governments. No third-world-but-trying-not-to-be country will admit that their literacy rate is actually 50%. Instead they want to hold up a high literacy rate to convince their people how good their education system is, so vote for me. So they dumb down the standard for literacy. In Uruguay for example, if you can read a menu and street signs, you're literate. Whereas in the US, the standard for literacy is somewhat higher.

We should take "literacy rates" with a grain of salt. They're political in nature and susceptible to inflation by local governments. No third-world-but-trying-not-to-be country will admit that their literacy rate is actually 50%. Instead they want to hold up a high literacy rate to convince their people how good their education system is, so vote for me. So they dumb down the standard for literacy. In Uruguay for example, if you can read a menu and street signs, you're literate. Whereas in the US, the standard for literacy is somewhat higher.
