In this video, I will be talking about important nutrients for guinea pigs. Then based on those nutrients, I'll be sharing some recipes that can help you in planning your daily meal for your guinea pigs! Okay, I burst out laughing because the ending was like - WTH? Cliffhanger? I felt like it was the end of a season of a tv show. Like Who Shot JR? Who took away Dumpling? What was wrong with poor Peanut? Will Tofu ever tire of hay? I feed my pigs a variety of foods everyday depending on what they are the day before to make sure they are getting all the vitamins and minerals they need. Listing all the food I feed would take a while so I’m just gonna say that I feed them different veggies everyday. But some of the staples that I feed every single day would be yellow bell pepper, green/red leaf lettuce, radicchio, cucumber for a snack all mixed in a salad bowl once a day with some other veggies that I switch in and out. Like parsley, carrots, tomato, celery and many more.😊❤️ love you GuineaDad hope you like my feeding schedule!

Recipes
Green power mix *one bowl per Guinea pig* (great for baby guinea pigs):
-one outer leaf green leaf lettuce
-3 or 4 strands of parsley
-quarter slice of green bell pepper
Rainbow mix *one bowl per Guinea pig* (high vitamin-c. helps with disease called scurvy):
-half size of a baby carrot
-one stick of celery. cut half of it thickness
-one yellow pepper quarter size

@guineadad, my parents said no to a second guinea pig. They all ready came out of their comfort zone to getting me a pet so, I will always keep him company. I just can't be with him when i go back to school but, thank you!!!!

I feed my pigs a cup of fresh veggies a day which is a mix of dark leafy greens and bell peppers. I use berries like strawberry, blackberry, blueberry, apple and carrot as an occasional treat. Great video as always, thank you for sharing and suggesting different diet mixes.

So I have been a piggy mommy for about 6 months. Mine get vitamin c in there water and daily veggies. Mine so far do not like carrots much or peppers. They absolutely love spring mix lettuce, cilantro, celery and cucumber. The only fruit they have really liked was watermelon. I was shocked how they ate the rine too. I keep trying on the others but little interest.
Also, I discovered I am highly allergic to Timothy hay. So I buy all other hay types so they have a variety daily along with pellets. They love the different types. I hope that's ok. Thanks for this video! I'll try and hang my veggies like you did here too.

Today, my Guinea pigs got green leaf lettuce, 1 baby tomato each, one baby carrot each, a quarter of a green pepper each and a small slice of apple that they get once a week

Thank you! So Tofu didn't like bell pepper as much as Peanut and Dumpling at the beginning. However, Tofu got used to it and acquired taste later. Now can't get enough of it 😄

@Auveen Ghavami another hint is give the disliked vegetable first thing, by itself, when your guinea pig is strongly craving a vegetable, also, chop the disliked vegetables small and put it in the pellet dish with the pellets. Make sure not to peel the cucumber.
My guinea pig wont eat bell peper either lol she’s very picky (: maybe another try?
I have two Guinea Pigs and I usually feed, a 1/2 to 1/3 part of fennel (depending on the size of the fennel I buy), 1 to 1 &1/2 carrot with green top, half a bell pepper and a few slices of either cucumber or tomato with green or red top lettuce about 3 or 4 leafs. I feed half in the day and the other half at night. I do also feed about 1/8 cup pellets per Guinea Pig at night with their dinner. I don't really know much about other herbs like parsley or dill I hear some people feed as snacks. Any advice??

For breakfast I feed them an apple filled treat. I feed them peppers, parsley, cilantro and romaine lettuce and sometimes tomatoes, spinach and kale. When I feed them peppers it is left in the bowl for a while, so they don't really like peppers. My Piggies are on a diet of fruit, they only get a little bit on the weekends. Is this ok?
So I have a question. When feeding, do I feed vegetables(about 1 cup) in the morning when I wake up and leafy greens in the evening, or vegetables and leafy greens at the same time, once a day?

Do you have a tip for oversized piggies? One of mine eats the food of the other one and has quite some body mass as a result of that.. But he still is very active and runs a lot, just likes food too much

Is it ok to give your pigs grass and/or let them out in an outdoor playpen when your out in the garden?
That's actually really great! Some people can't do it because they live in apartment or some other reasons, but it's good to let your piggies graze on clean grass. As long as no pesticide was used and there are no other animal dropping in the area.
One of my boys doesn't take parsley at all! He's 5 months old now. :( And only eats peppers, cucumbers, carrots and tomatoes. I try to force feed him other greens but he's picky like that. His younger brother tho, eats everything. Like everything!
Hi Chrissy! Sometimes guinea pigs do not really eat something they are not familiar with. What you could do is to try to introduce one new veggie at a time then you can try to mix it with their favorite veggies until they get familiar with its taste. Only introduce another veggie once the picky piggy finally becomes familiar of the new veggie. 😁

Ok good video but when you feed your guinea pig a red pepper there pee turns red now its not bad but you won't know if they were sick (that's how i lost my guinea tiwnkle 😭

I just adopted my little boy Francis. He is 1,5 years old and I noticed some white spots on the cage. I did some research and they say it's because of a lot calcium. I don't think in the animal shelter they noticed that, so I'm trying to treat that. What do you think should be the best mix of veggies for him? I give him lettuce, cucumber and bell pepper. I'm trying to feed him carrots just twice a week because of the sugar.

This will highly depend on your guinea pig's condition, but in general, I recommend green leaf lettuce or red leaf lettuce over romaine lettuce :) Little bit of pea flake is also ok as a treat! Just be sure to not over do the treats :)
GuineaDad my piggies have a history of kidney stones and they are 1.5 years old. I don’t over feed treats, don’t worry!
@@PiggieTime Be careful with pea flakes. They can have them but not too many. I am always sad to know when poor lil piggies have my disease (kidney stones). For such wee animals, I can't imagine what they go through to pass them. Go piggies go!
JB Jacobs I only feed a couple pea flakes to each piggie and they go CRAZY! They jump on my lap and sometimes onto my shoulders. Then, my dog comes and gets jealous of the attention, so I have to feed her one, too 😂 Guinea pigs are amazing creatures 🥰

The specifics depend on the amount of veggies and condition of your guinea pig, but in a general sense, looks good :)

What is the bowl you use to feed the guineas vegetables? I leave their veggies on the fleece every day and it feels unsanitary.
I have three adult pigs on a great veggie diet with sparse calcium and lots of Vitamin C via bell peppers. I just got a new baby pig and the only vegetable he's interested in is carrots because that's all his previous owner fed him (along with pellets and hay). How can I get him interested in peppers? He sort of nibbled at them at first, but now doesn't care about them.

Water for sure needs to be available 24/7. I use bottles because they are cleaner for piggies. Hay, water, veggies are necessary, rest are usually extra.
for parrot care, most species need to eat a bunch of veggies too, with some fruit, grains and legumes. There are many parrot channels that show how to make those mixes and how to store them in the freezer so it can last many days without going bad. They are usually chopped into small pieces. Can guinea pigs eat fruits and veggies in small pieces that are thawed?
Yes, guinea pigs can eat thawed fruits and veggies in small pieces-just serve them at room temperature. Focus on veggies more due to lower sugar. Always introduce new foods slowly! 😊🥕🥒

Hi Ash! Let's allow him to adjust. No force picking and just let your guinea pig come to you. Use food to your advantage - It's your best weapon to get closer to them. ❤️
How does spinach and kale effect the guinea pigs

Once a day ?? I saw somewhere that they should get 128g a day of greens so I divide it into 2 or 3 meals (every 8 hours) but it looks a lot or maybe I’m bugging. My Guineas don’t like carrots and rarely eat celery. They love love love spinach and will squeal until I give them. I’ve tried giving them a lot of different things like carrots, cherry tomatoes, celery, kale, broccoli etc but they just can’t let go of the spinach so I end up giving them. They will eat romaine lettuce sometimes. I’m not sure what to do since they won’t eat anything else.
it looks like you are feeding a lot of high calcium veggies - spinach, kale etc. Switch to something like red leaf or green leaf lettuce for greens. Definitely add bell pepper. If they don't like it, still continue to do it until they get used to it. It's the best vegetable for guinea pigs when it comes to vitamin C.

What’s a good replacement for the peppers if they won’t eat them?
Any veggie that is high in vitamin C would be okay. Some vitamin C rich veggies are as follows Broccoli, Brussels sprouts, and cauliflower. Spinach, cabbage, turnip greens, and other leafy greens.
My guinea pigs simply will not eat bell peppers! They will eat almost everything but bell peppers! Picky guinea piggies! Any other veggies that you would recommend that has high vitamin C than bell peppers?

Yes. You can feed it to them everyday but make sure it does not exceed more than 1 cup a day. 😊

This is a general guideline, so you may change as you fit. It's always good idea to give them variety, so you can switch them up as much as you'd like. I will explain this in episode 2, if your piggy has certain condition it is better to stick with certain plan (or stay close to that plan) than another.
I thought that for bell peppers as you went from green to more red on the scale it had more sugars and was bad for guinea pigs. I’ve only fed my guinea pigs green peppers because of this

Every piggy has their own preference, but I encourage everyone to try to balance their diet as much as you can. For my case, Tofu didn't like bell pepper and many new veggies at first, but with consistent introduction, she acquired the taste for them.

Hi, I just got my first two Guinea pigs a few days ago and I’ve noticed that they don’t like bell pepper. I’m very worried about their vitamin c intake. I’ve tried hiding it in other veggies and they pick it out. I give them the oxbow vitamin c tabs but I’m worried that it’s not enough. On top of not eating bell pepper I noticed that they don’t eat their pellets either. What should I do?
PS I feed them parsley but I heard giving female pigs parsley everyday can cause bladder stones and I would hate for them to go through that
Congratulations on your new Guinea pigs! It can be stressful when they don't eat a certain food that you know is important to their health. It sounds like you've done a great job supplementing their diet with the Oxbow Vitamin C tablets.
If they won't eat bell peppers, you could try adding other food sources of vitamin C, like kale, broccoli, cucumbers or strawberries. You can also try adding different vegetables to the mix to see if they like them better.
Parsley is a great food for Guinea pigs, but you're right to be cautious. If you're worried about bladder stones, try offering other greens like cilantro, kale, or spinach instead.

Oh the rainbow mix, since there's carrots that have sugar, on the vegetable master list, it says to give them bell peppers, carrots, and celery 2x3 times a week, do I give my guinea pigs rainbow mix 2x3 times a week?
Carrots do have a higher sugar content compared to other vegetables, so it would be better to give them in moderation~!Giving a variety of vegetables is good for guinea pig health and helps with nutritional balance. Thank you~!😊💖💖💖

When you said the meal was per pig/per day, do you mean that is the only vegetables they get all day? I always give more hearty servings. Have I been over feeding? They are not over weight.

Hi! This meal plan is actually part of our girls' daily meal. You may follow this meal plan too! You may go with meal plan 1 or 2 or even interchange the two meal plans as often as you like but always complement it with unlimited amount of hay and fresh water. 😊
Got baby piggies! How many times a day do u feed them veggies?
You can actually set the veggies to portions as long as it does not exceed 1 cup of veggies per day. This meal plan works for baby guinea pigs top (less than 6 months) 😊
So I found a second male Guinea pig outside in my yard, so I am assuming that somebody dropped them off. I don't know what to do with him, because the vet is not open right now in my area due to the virus and he seems to be having breathing problems, probably because the poor guy has been wet in the rain for I don't know how long until I found him. I am so sad about this and I really need help. I don't know what research to trust online and I know Guineadad knows his stuff.
