Phil O'Keefe on the Gibson forum states:
"While I can't divulge what we are or are not going to be releasing, I can tell you that the first guitar - and so far, the only guitar that I personally know about that is in development - is not a Red Special. That doesn't mean we won't be making one eventually. I honestly do not know either way."

Gibson has built a 12 string acoustic for Brian early 2023, you can see it in some live videos.

And that's another point, who could be more interested, Brian May in playing a Gibson twelve string acoustic guitar or Gibson in having Brian May playing one of their twelve string acoustic guitars... Ummm... Or maybe that is not the only question and...Gibson finally achive to get the exclusive rights to make and sell replicas of the Red Special model ... Who knows... But, if this latter is what happens what is for sure is that those replicas that Gibson might make wouldn't be, exactly affordable... I hope that, at least, they stay in tune better than LPs or SGs...

@@patriciaydiegoormaza-marti2446 They will stay in tune! It actually comes down to the zero fret and the no friction design of the Red Special which fixes Gibson's tuning issue..

From what I know about Brian May, he's not the type of guy who will let Gibson make a Brian May signature guitar just to make some money but that he won't use himself.
However, having them make him a signature acoustic guitar, that's not impossible.

    • @PatPosse

My money is on some awesome Red Special limited run but I guess an acoustic wouldn’t be all that crazy either… it’s just that he’s never played Gibson acoustics (until recently) but who knows… as a fan I wouldn’t be that excited about an acoustic May Signature to be honest…

He did play a Gibson Les Paul 70s deluxe for queens American tour in the mid 70s but he hated playing it as it wasn’t the same satisfying playability and sound he endured from his red special. After that he did the same with a fender strat until he came back with his red special. The black Les Paul custom remains unknown, whether he bought it or borrowed it. Also there was a time in the 90s fender promised Brian they’d make a fender based guitar for him that’s based off of the red special, unfortunately it never happened

1st replica was a John Birch used in We Will Rock You and Spread Your Wings videos. This also was his touring back up. He smashed it up onstage on US tour 1982 and was replaced by the Gibson Flying V for the rest of the tour. The Guild BHM was featured in the One Vision video and used as tour back up on the 1986 Magic Tour. He also used a Greco RS Replica in a 1970s UK TV appearance.

Great video. I think they’re releasing the official Gibson Brian May sixpence guitar pick lol 😂 jk. I have a strong feeling that they will release a Gibson Brian May Red Special and i have a few reasons as to why? First- on brian may guitars’ website, they are saying that registration for the Brian May Super is now closed. Two- Brian May said that they actually have talked about it and said that it would be nice to have a Red Special produced over in the US. Three- the Gibson CEO actually said they welcome Brian May into the Gibson family. If they don’t release it, this would be the biggest trolling ever done to the guitar community. Rock on 🤘

I own a Burns model from 2007. I decided to get it near the beginning of 2024 and took delivery of it in February. You might be right about how it plays like a PRS model, but what matters to me is that I just really enjoy playing it myself. It came to me while I was at work on one of my solo records, and I just plugged it in and included it on a few of the tracks. The way that it responded almost “sent shivers down my spine”.
The way I see it, Brian’s Red Special is the inaugural Super Strat. That might be stretching it a little, but you won’t convince me of that. There are two areas where it almost matches up with models from the Gibson product line. One instance is that its semi hollow cavities are reminiscent of the ES-335. Another has to do with the actual Super Strat that Gibson was making in the second half of the 80s, the M-III. If Brian actually is collaborating with them, I hope both of those points would become pertinent to the collaboration.

      @PatPosse  18 днів тому +1

Awesome!!! Just to clarify, I don’t think any of the guitars I mentioned “suck” they are all awesome in their own way!! But different nonetheless (and different from the actual RS they are trying to replicate). That being said, you are ABSOLUTELY right that ALL that matters is the way you feel when you play it! I’ve said it before, I’ve never been as happy playing a guitar than with my first strat (the one I got my first chords in with) and my very first Les Paul (which was an Epi and was considerably better suited for my style than the Strat)! Not because they were great but because I just couldn’t stop playing them….
      Thanks for watching and commenting!
Ps, Shoot me a link to that recording!

Thank you, Pat. Here’s one song from my latest album on which I played the Burns model. Not only was I thoroughly satisfied and invigorated playing the guitar solo you hear but also with the sustained chord at the end. I was using an amp modeler and monitors, but there was something savory about that final chord that reminded me of what I’ve heard people do with Marshall stacks.

Few errors here, especially when looking at the historic copies. The image of the RS that you said was a Burns is not a Burns, It's one of the many cheap Chinese knock-offs. The Burns was a fantastic copy at a very reasonable price. It also had Brian's signature on the headstock, same as the later BMG models. There is a world of difference between the Burns and BMG guitars as well, different pickups, slimmer neck on the BMG, different, less reliable trem system and a lot more money at retail than the Burns ever was. As for a Gibson incarnation? They would probably use some high quality parts, that in turn will keep the value high like the older Guild models. I would much rather invest into a conversion of one of my Red Specials than pay over the odds for a Gibson version.

The Guild you show and talk about was the first gen model, and yes you are right about it not being very much like the original - DiMarzio pickups, custom Kahler bridge, no tone chambers. They stopped making it because Guild began to cut corners in its manufacture, and Brian used an escape clause in his endorsement to stop production. However, years later Brian and Guild decided to give it a second try. The resulting second gen model was much closer to the Red Special- Seymour Duncan did the pickups, which better fit the specs of the original Tri-Sonics, and Schaller made a replica of the trem system. And this time it had a chambered body. I played one of these in green burst, and it was quite the experience. Sadly, due to Guild’s financial problems, that (and a budget hardtail model) didn’t last very long in the market.

Anyway, that second Guild (which I think I actually included a picture of on the video with Bri holding both Guilds) was pretty damn awesome looking! I doubt Gibson would manufacture Brian May's original design guitar for these reasons. (1) The retooling and assembly training required to manufacture a guitar not in the company's line up would be costly. (2) Brian May's OG guitar was never a Gibson guitar thus goes against Gibson's "Play Authentic" moto that's been going on for a few years. (3) The profit to investment ratio I don't think is there how many people are kicking down Guitar Center doors to get their hands on a Guild Brian May guitar? Not a lot. (4) If by some crazy reason Gibson actually manufactures a Brian May OG guitar it would only be a Murphy Lab Custom shop guitar with a run of maybe 100 units costing nothing less than 10,000 US dollars. I think most likely we would see that LP black Custom or the LP mini humbucker guitar who knows even smaller chance we would get the V.

The red special is to complex in it construction for the Gibson custom, it will cost 150000$ XD. Gibson made him a custom 12-string j200 (with cosmic stuff on the pickguard), if Gibson made somethimg with him its probably that. What i think is Tony Iommi Said to brian « would you come with my to the opening of the Gibson garage » because they are close friend,a good argument against my theorie is the original Red Special turn 60 in october this year, it would be the perfect time, but I still don’t think it will apen

Sad to see Gibson as the brand behind this. It will invariably be an overpriced guitar mostly inaccessible to the guitar playing community and subsequently all of the thoughtful innovation Brain May put into the guitar will go completely unused and squandered by the target demographic. The guy is already rich and should have known better. Anyone but Gibson. Bummer.

😝 "Cheaper production"? Are you high? If this happens, it'll be scarce and unavailable to most budgets...as you pointed out. Is there a guarantee attached to the deluxe for workmanship or satisfaction? I'm sure if you had the 4 grand you could ask specific questions. You didn't say. Gibson sucks. They don't these for the people. They make them for optics...and that's annoying to people. The entire run of that Page double neck was 2.5 million. Why do that? Even...? How much does Page get? If this goes down I hope May insists they don't tilt the head back for maximum breakage.

@@Panic42000 Well... The best of this is that, since the very first moment Brian May had to build his own guitar, and he started releasing authentic Rock anthems playing it, that instrument became unique... Yes, there will always be replicas but, given that the original one was not made in a factory, the replicas that can be bought in the market inspire me no confidence at all... Yeah, we all know that is the artist who gives popularity to the instrument and not the opposite...
