BOOM! Bigger engine with more horsepower, finally, like the Toyota Corolla SE/XSE, but normally aspirated for durability, and reliability. If I could get a second car after the Corolla SE/XSE to go do stuff here in Hawaii, this is perfect for what would want. I like all the little details how the equipped the Sport trim. The weak link is the CVT, but I don't intend to trash it, or go high speed off off road, or thrash it. If you want to do that, that is what the Toyota Rav4 TRD is for and can do, and won't kill the shocks like it would do, even on many so called heavy duty off road bigger trucks and SUVs. Like I mentioned previously, I liked the Crosstrek, but not enough power before now, and even liked the base Forester I rented for two days for moving house, but even then, going up hill and such, the 2.5L seemed pretty fast and strong for a bigger SUV than this. The 17" tires is better for off road than the Limited, and look the part with the beefier appearance trim. I like everything now inside and out, especially with the simulated carbon fiber, gold and gunmetal accents and those wheels. It would be about as much as a Limited with all the accessories and add ons I would want, but about $10K less than a loaded Rav4 TRD that I would probably not even push close to its limits. Other than the CVT, this would be my dream SUV for practical use without worrying about the reliability, durability, dependability, and longevity. I wish they offered the Sport with the Harman Kardon stereo, but it has a CD player, and would be decent for me until I get the other accessories and get the Rockford Fosgate speaker/amp/DSP upgrade accessory they offer, since it's my favorite car audio company. It looks great in black, but I would get the Horizon Blue. Great video as usual, Joe. Now waiting for the Corolla Apex video as soon as you can get your hands on one. Now I want the XSE Apex, even with the TRD Camry like rear spoiler, especially for the engine and transmission tweaking and exhaust. But I would probably rather get an SE/XSE that would be easier to replace if I needed, may not have any potential problems with the simulated 10 speed CVT recalibration, and get it in Blueprint or Blue Crush Metallic. I already found many suspension, brake and other options to fix it up to near Apex level performance.
No middle armrest/drink holders in rear?? What were they thinking...sigh. That's simply a Ripley's believe it or not; especially when the previous models all had it...I have the 2018 model.
Joe quick question for you, ok maybe a small suggestion. Would it be possible for you to show a small picture of the previous vehicle so we can see the updated change? Of course I don’t mean for the entire video but a brief one. For example I don’t remember how the previous CrossTrek front face looked. So a brief photo in the top right corner would popped up where we could see the old with the new changes. That’s it , you do a great job always bud.
That’s pretty good fuel economy for a boxer engine. I had a 2002 (model year) WRX, BEST I got was maybe 20mpg, I know it’s turbocharged but keeping it out of boost as much as possible on a 2.0 should have yielded well into the 20’s. I turbocharged my 1.6 Miata and still got 30 mpg.
My girlfriend just bought a Crosstrek Outdoor same as the Sport in the USA except it has a Heated steering wheel, and front view camera. It also loses the tacky sport badge. I wouldn’t say the new 2.5 makes it powerful but it makes so it doesn’t feel underpowered like it did before
If this thing had a real automatic trans or a manual (plus a turbo) they would sell twice as many, and that’s saying something! Exterior and interior are great. By the way, with the Doritos and baseball comments, you are taking it to a next level, Joe! Love it.
Thanks for all the great reviews. I have owned around 10 Subarus (I live in Ohio). I currently own 2 (both Foresters 2004, 2007). Probably keep my 2004 XT till it dies. I haven't really liked Subarus since 2007, and the prices always seem high. I have discovered the boxer engine has a built in head problem, and not as much power because of the design.(I know Porsche overcame the power issue, not Subaru) I have also discovered that the new winter tire designs are incredible in snow, so I don't really need AWD.
Remote start is possible with the Subaru App. I ordered Sport for the better engine and physical buttons. I wish my 21 outback had more physical buttons.
I test drove one of these recently. I'm right now torn between this and the Impreza Sport hatchback (in my opinion, the better handling of the Impreza lineup opposed to the other trims). While the Impreza Sport drove close to a low-to-the-ground sports car (just not as fast, but I'm not complaining about that), the Crosstrek Sport had a "dune buggy" feel to it that I did quite enjoy. It would just come down to if I can find a good deal on either a new, certified, or used one, and if I can find them in my area (used Impreza Sport hatchbacks are especially rare in the St. Louis area).
I'm on my second Crosstrek but I'm strongly considering CX-5 as my next car. While I like the Crosstrek, the 2.0 liter and CVT are something I'm not super excited about. Also my brand new Crosstrek has bunch of rattles inside the interior, the most annoying is the eye-sight housing that rattles and drones almost constantly. Most bizarre thing was dealer telling me to stick a business card between the housing and the windshield to make it stop 😀and yet it didn't stop the rattle. There's also rattle in the left A pillar and the glovebox cover - all these noises and rattles occur at normal 35mph city driving. So while I like Subarus and the idea of more powerful 2.5L engine, I'm probably going Mazda.
I would rather wait till the FA line of engines come out in 2022. But for the 2.5L I would go with the Forester sport and pay the extra money. You get more room, and the same MPG.
Just got one , it dose haul azzz , can’t believe how it hugs corners ! My crv takes a corner at 40 before loosing control new cross trek take same corner 62 and still hugs , unreal on the snow and ice , crv stays at the bottom of hill .
This looks like a better AWD version of the CX-30 with the only weak link being the CVT. I am not a fan of the FWD/AWD systems on most non Subbies. This thing will be beast in bad weather, regardless of power. My biggest concern is that CVT. Anyone know if they are reliable transmissions? any issues?
I've been kicking this vehicle around and realized what it needs to be competitive in it's segment. 1700hp. That would be fantastic to take the kiddies to school.
Is Subaru also coming out with a Crosstrek limited sport ? I thought that I had heard that one is in the making. Not a big fan of the Crosstrek sport wheels but I do like Gun metal on black ! A manual with CVT will only give you problems down the road plus repair costs.
I don’t ever see an sti version of this coming here so the closer they can get to 200hp the better. Considering the Rav4 sells with 200 hp and is much bigger and heavier this amount of power in the crosstrek should be enough for most people.
I wonder if a Crosstrek WRX or STI is possible with the turbo engine. Yeah I get it it's not a rally car but now that I am older having a hatch is so much more practical than a sedan.
Probably easier to buy the WRX and up the suspension to the Crosstrek than start with the Crosstrek and swap engines and components to the WRX but hey why not!
Ew, isn't that the 9-speed from the Renegade? That thing couldn't decide what gear it wanted to be in. Besides, if you're not a peg legged pirate, you've got a left foot that was intelligently designed to operate a clutch pedal. What else is your left foot supposed to do all day?
The Crosstrek is a cool little car and the 2.5 feels/sounds better than the 2.0 but it is still BEGGING for a detuned version of the 2.4 with around 220hp. Subaru, that's the sweet spot! Also, LED headlights should be standard on the Sport trim. Go ahead and leave them off of the base/premium but the Sport should have them, they just look more modern.
Unfortunately your more about looks then functionality. Halogens throw light down the road further, better then any LEDs. Fact. I drive a lot at night, so halogens get the win.
@@DS..69 i'd take LEDs any day over halogens on a dark road in the Colorado high country, speaking from someone who drives up there a lot and has a car w/ halogens.

Thanks for sharing that very in depth comment! I really appreciate you sharing your thoughts on this one.
No middle armrest/drink holders in rear?? What were they thinking...sigh. That's simply a Ripley's believe it or not; especially when the previous models all had it...I have the 2018 model.
I totally agree with you Michael. It seems that brought the bigger engine but cut costs in other areas.
I believe the limited does come with drink holders/armrest. You can also get the 2.5 in limited as well.
There is a 400k mile crosstrek out there if anyone is worried about the cvt
link?
Joe quick question for you, ok maybe a small suggestion. Would it be possible for you to show a small picture of the previous vehicle so we can see the updated change? Of course I don’t mean for the entire video but a brief one. For example I don’t remember how the previous CrossTrek front face looked. So a brief photo in the top right corner would popped up where we could see the old with the new changes. That’s it , you do a great job always bud.
Hey Tony! Thanks for the feedback and suggestion. I will get that together.
Raiti's Rides That’s why I always say you da man Joe 🤙🏾.
@@firemanprice Thanks Tony!
28k is a good price!
I watch these everyday man
I can't do it without your support!
I wouldn’t say the new 2.5 makes it powerful but it makes so it doesn’t feel underpowered like it did before
Great SUV Crosstrek Sport for Boston, Miami and the whole country..... Go Subaru go with the new motors with more power...
I really enjoy watching your orientations , keep up always 👌🏻
That really means so much! Thank you for being part of the Raiti's Rides family!
If this thing had a real automatic trans or a manual (plus a turbo) they would sell twice as many, and that’s saying something! Exterior and interior are great. By the way, with the Doritos and baseball comments, you are taking it to a next level, Joe! Love it.
I am right there with you Kevin! Thanks for letting me share some laughs with you!
No, they wouldn’t sell twice as many. The vast majority are fine with it just the way it is, and the fact they are paying for them confirms that.
Manual sales are less than 10%, thats why they're not offered on pretty much any vehicle.
Sti, MT and premium trim. Game on. Also STI version outback XT please Subaru!!!!
I know right! That would be awesome!
Regarding snow-tire designs, you speak as a real flat-lander. (I mean this kindly, as someone who lives on a mountainside.)
As always appreciate your reviews. If you’ve tested the limited, which would you go for Sport or Limited?
Seeing this makes me want to sell my 2018 Forester Black Edition 🤩
You have a great SUV though.
I'd be really curious to see a version tuned by STI 🤔.
This was one of my top picks for mini SUVs.
Remote start is possible with the Subaru App. I ordered Sport for the better engine and physical buttons. I wish my 21 outback had more physical buttons.
Your my go to guy for my next car , summer of 2022 I’m shopping 😀
Thanks man! I appreciate thet!
More power is a good thing! I think I’d rather just go with the Outback. Thanks for sharing it Joe. Nice job! 👍🏻👍🏻🇺🇸
No, don’t get the Outback. You will seriously suffer with the infotainment. It is seriously bad.
The Outback is my fav! You are so very welcome Larry!
Equally equipped your looking at 5 to 7 thousands more than this
Outbacks are made in the US, Crosstreks are made in Japan. Do what you will with that information.
Yeah this thing needs a turbo motor and non CVT trans. I'd definitely buy one if they make it.
Why do so many of the new cars have only one pocket on the back of the front seats? Why did that become a thing?
Origins were that the driver could reach behind the passenger seat to grab a paper map/atlas...
Car looks great but what really sold me on it is the Twinkie and baseball storage. Most reviewers don’t factor that in. 🤣
I like the way that you think Shaun!
14:06. I was thinking that white Nissan rogue was going to pull out in front of you
Tell me about it Luke!
A great SUV Crosstrek with more power for New England.... cool video dude.
Thanks Fernando! I really appreciate that you are so supportiove!
Great Review
Great. Now it's only just as powerful as a base Forester. Waiting for Subaru to come back out with the Forester XT.
300 pounds less
Great Review. Glad to see more power. Would like to see a Crosstrek with rear console mounted a/c vents and over 200 hp.
I would rather wait till the FA line of engines come out in 2022. But for the 2.5L I would go with the Forester sport and pay the extra money. You get more room, and the same MPG.
We will see how it goes!
Sad that they call it a "sport" but they do not offer a manual with the "sport" trim. 😥
I feel your pain!
No excuse for automakers today not using LED headlights/foglights/taillights on all their trims.
Love your videos keep up the great work!!!
If you don't like the weather in Florida, wait 5 minutes. (just like here in Oregon) :D
You are so right about that Douglas.
Just got one , it dose haul azzz , can’t believe how it hugs corners ! My crv takes a corner at 40 before loosing control new cross trek take same corner 62 and still hugs , unreal on the snow and ice , crv stays at the bottom of hill .
Is it quiet at highway speeds?
@@marktepper3440 I have not noticed the outside noise being any kind of problem
@@marktepper3440 love the horse power ,using your Paddles on the steering wheel in Sport mode with the foot to the floor surprises most people !
Great Video. I was hoping you would review the Sport!
Thanks Don! I am so glad that I could bring it to you!
I've never seen trees pruned around power lines like that. Nice shade!
This is very true!
This looks like a better AWD version of the CX-30 with the only weak link being the CVT. I am not a fan of the FWD/AWD systems on most non Subbies. This thing will be beast in bad weather, regardless of power. My biggest concern is that CVT. Anyone know if they are reliable transmissions? any issues?
My 17 Outback is at 165K miles with 0 CVT problems and 0 problems of any kind. Selling it now to get Crosstrek Sport or Limited.
CVTs now-a-days are incredibly reliable.
“Balls, Twinkies and Doritos” never gets old 😂😂😂
I don’t ever see an sti version of this coming here so the closer they can get to 200hp the better. Considering the Rav4 sells with 200 hp and is much bigger and heavier this amount of power in the crosstrek should be enough for most people.
Auto start is done through smartphone app
Funny, the gold touches and halogen lights are keeping me from buying the same model. Bummer too bc the 2.5L engine is nice
Can you do the 2021 Subaru impreza review next?
I will do Angelica!
Great car ! Still dreaming of a STI Crosstrek! ☺️
I know how you feel about that one.
Even this would be OK as a daily if you could at least get it with a short geared manual, but CVTs just feel so slow off the line.
Levorg STI Sport ones should be out soon, not sure if US/CAN will get it though.
I wonder if a Crosstrek WRX or STI is possible with the turbo engine. Yeah I get it it's not a rally car but now that I am older having a hatch is so much more practical than a sedan.
It is possible but Subaru will not do it!
@@RaitisRides Yeah you're right that's the sad truth. but let's see what demand their Mazda 3 turbo hatchback rival will bring.
Probably easier to buy the WRX and up the suspension to the Crosstrek than start with the Crosstrek and swap engines and components to the WRX but hey why not!
12:37 you can get the sport with an optional 8 inch display
I love it but that gold on the steering wheel is giving me anxiety.
I feel your pain!
i have the same model and believe me, the gold works. Im extremely surprised by it
Needs a real transmission, ZF-9. But, for 28K it sounds like a deal.
AGREED!
@@oliverroo59 On a mountain road maybe at a slow pace. Highway driving, halogen wins. Imho.
Great input Jonathan!
let me tell you Joe.....i need a new suv for dec 2020..i want it 2021..not too big not small, 5 pax , lots of mpg, automatic telescope gear, high from the floor, afraid of floating areas, no noise, retractable mirors, lot of power , lots of pockets and usb charges, dont care for the cargo area, my shopping is no big anymore and we take uber for airport, ...please compare, the venza, this one, the rav4, passport, thank you...i love your videos.
just bought a 2022...love it
Please Subaru, give this lil crossover some more power and ditch the CVT...it suuuuucks the life out of driving.... Please pretty please. Thanks for the review Joe!!!#RaitisRides #OnThrottle #ToTheDoorPanel #TwinkiesGoWhere #CrownVic #OnThrottleAgain #Zonkmeister #subaru
i like this car, but i've got a family of 4 a little small for us. the outback is what i'm looking into. this car would be awesome for a couple or single.
This car just looks so badass and tough
