Is the 2024 Subaru Crosstrek Wilderness a better SUV than a Compass Trailhawk?

- The Crosstrek is getting a HUGE upgrade for 2024 from Subaru. On the outside you will discover a lift, 17in wheels, off road tires, special bodywork and roof rails. On the inside you will be welcomed by waterproof seating, gold accents & 11.6in infotainment screen. Under the hood is a 2.5L flat-4 mated to a CVT.

I live in the mountains of West Virginia. I bought this exact car (in white). I ordered it from the factory. I LOVE THIS THING. This has easily been the best vehicle I've ever owned. Granted it's brand new. But it is an extremely capable, well built, well thought out vehicle. If you are on the fence about getting one of these, pull the trigger and get it. You won't be dissapointed. I also have a Ram 1500, and I will drive this up the mountains and through the snow any day.
What gas this car use ? 91 or 87
Question, it's been a few months, do you still love this vehicle?
The Alpine green, perfect color for this soldier ❤-- Subaru you win again
It looks like it's ready for battle. lol
Oh yeah!
NAH NO TIRES
I live in Denver and I have had 4 Crosstreks. I just got the 24 Wilderness and it is awesome. I ski every weekend and this handles the mountains like a champ. In CO, I would not drive anything else.
Subaru is Colorado's state car, I visited from Cali this past fall and it seemed like 70% of people owned one
Subaru vs compass? Subaru 150% more reliable.
Subaru vs Pontiac
Got caught in a blizzard in my Crosstrek Wilderness last week. Handled the ice and snow like nothing!
I loved your Game Boy list of cartridges, well done as always Joe. Solid review with loads of info.
They did a great job with the color options on the Crosstrek Wilderness. They all look great, I test drove a red one last week.
Love this car! thanks for the review. ordered one last week. same color. Looks like something you could invade a small country in, but I love it!
Looked at this at the dealer when I brought my car in for first oil change and man I looks good in person ! Great bang for the buck 👍 Another epic review 🤙
You hit the nail on the head. You are so very welcome
Non si vede una Subaru in giro.perche'?linea stravecchia, prezzi esosi, consumi😢
Great review as always, Joe! My bro has one of these in silver. Very nice. We did a very steep climb on a hill. It’s unreal how capable this wilderness is. Definitely huge value for the price.
That is so fantastic! Thank you for letting me share it with you
you think you're funny but your jokes and remarks are so annoying@@RaitisRides
I am getting the car soon and you are the best covering specific features. Very good. Thank you.
I traded in my '21 Crosstrek Outdoor (Sport in US) for this Wilderness. Although I enjoy every minute driving it as it serves me well for my hunting and fishing trips, I find the offroad suspension to be rather on the firm side compared to my previous Crosstrek. Just food for thought for anyone considering this CTW as it caught me by surprise. It is very noticeable.
My other gripes:
- Heated steering wheel only at 9 and 3 o'clock positions. Why not for the entire wheel Subaru??
- No front facing camera! I had it on my Outdoor and I really miss it.
- No full size spare like in the Forester or Outback Wilderness.
- Power. This car screams for a turbocharged engine! 250hp would be nice.. would help with towing too.
Otherwise it is a very fun car to drive, feels solid, laughs at anything winter brings to it and goes to unexpected places.. this is really a mountain goat! 😃
this is the review ive been waiting for !! my ctw sunblaze orange will be in any time now,,this will be my 6th subi and 11th between my wife and i,, we are subi fans !! thank you very much joe !!
I love your presentations! Glad the crows didn’t get you and thanks for pointer the friends vs s’mores!
It looks like an awesome deal.
Keep up the good work!
I just became a subscriber 🙌
My dream car. Not specifically the wilderness edition but I had to come to the Raitis Ride review honestly the only reviews I genuinely enjoy.
great review as always..ill test drive one next week!
Thanks man! You will love it!
I feel like you scratched the heck out of that paint!
Amazing review Joe.
Great review. Thinking about downsizing from my Jeep Gladiator to the Crosstrek Wilderness. As usual, you provided a detailed comprehensive review to help me make a decision. Good job.
Been looking at getting one of these and I knew my man Raiti would have a video out on the exact model and color I’m wanting.
That is so awesome to hear Dan! I am so glad that I could bring it to you!
Awesome video - very thorough
I have one in the awesome geyser blue. Haven't done much off roading yet but with the snow starting to dump and driving through canyons to get to the ski hills, I know I'm not gonna have any worry with clearance or grip!
Ordered my 3 weeks ago and plan on picking it up around the 25th or a little after. Can't wait. Great review !
did u ordered it on subaru website or specific dealer website??
I had the honor of attending Subaru’s Camp Wilderness Ride and Drive event and was BLOWN AWAY at the serious terrain in Bell’s Reserve (Nashville, TN) that it just ate up. This will be my next new car
That is so fantastic to hear!
Thanks for this very informative video!
i recently got my 2023 mazda 3 hatchback… and now i’m planning to buy a crossiver in the near future soon. This is definitely up to my list 💯💯💯
Congratulations 1 million subscribers ❤ hello from Morocco
I have a 2023 compass trailhawk and love it! I've done some light mudding/ trail running over large rocks after adding rock sliders. No damage after rock sliding due to under body armor. Better approach and breakover angles than the crosstrek. plus it was 10% off MRSP when I brought it. Don't think I could do the things I do in my compass trailhawk in a crosstrek...but my next jeep will definitely be a Rubicon wrangler though...LOL
Joe and Lori, the Subaru all the way baby! Nice job guys. Love ya both
I can’t wait for this exact spec to arrive at work!
It is really great!
Beautiful looking. Nice integrated interior rather sticking out like a sore thumb. Good craftsmanship.
J ~ they finally have a non generic body design = yay. thanks buddy for this sweet auto review. tony
You are super welcome Tony
Apparently, overlanding means over doing the black cladding 🤣. I think the crows are commenting on the black cladding. Thanks Joe and Steven !
You crack me up Tom! 😂
love your review. should do next the outback wilderness 2024
Pretty nice overall. That color combo is really the icing in the Twinkie. 😉
Love this all around car, might have to replace my cx-5 . Damn love the numbers 700 lbs roof rack and 3k pulling ability!! Impressive numbers.
I love both this and the CX-5. I'm leaning more towards the mazda 'cause of more power (great for overtakes on those long highways) and the AC seats. do you use the AC seats? are they good on the cx-5?
Nah, keeping the CX5. Can't get excited about the CVT.
I am a big Subaru fan. Only buys this brand for the last 12 years. Had an Outback, then a WRX, then an Ascent and the last one a Crosstrek. As much as I love them, if you plans to tow on a constant base do not buy a Subaru. The Subaru CVT is very reliable but, any CVT will struggle if you uses it with towing runs.
Have a look at the CX-50 too. This wilderness looks like it might be better off road, but my God the CX-50 is gorgeous.
@@KyrosX27I've never had ventilated seats, but I've been told that it feels pretty gross if you're already sweating.
Great review, beautiful car!
This guy just drive through bushes and making everyone wanna buy one now :) Best Video showing what a Crosstrek Wilderness can do!
I see what you did there! LOL
Yeah that's why the USS NORTH CAROLINA goes full on Atlantic fleet mode
Boom Boom mega BOOOOOOOOOOOM
I currently own a 2022 outback wilderness and man this thing looks amazing! That back bumper!
I am so glad that you like this one.
Crosstrek WRX, c'mon Subaru do it. You have all the parts needed, they just need to be put together. A hatchback WRX with 8 inches of ground clearance : )
They are so close!
This is so needed. I’ve postponed my WRX purchase for this very reason.. no hatch!
Don't know about the Crosstrek WRX, but the WRX wagon should be returning back sooner than later...
@@Jerictron5000 this would be incredible..
Maybe, tuned to 400hp and under $25K? Dream on!
You hit a homer with your sales pitch on the Crosstrek Wilderness. I presently have my second crosstrek, a sport model. I plan to upgrade to the wilderness edition next fall.
Great video
I don’t know if it’s different on the Wilderness (I have the Sport) but you don’t need to go into the menu screen for the X-modes. They are available at the top of the screen, just arrow over and leave them if you think you’ll need them.
is it the same in the Wilderness
Yes of course Joe & I am going to buy one.
That is so fantastic! I think Subaru will be happy to say that!
@Brian_Eugene_Leethat is so awesome Brian
Great video! Super funny.
Does Subaru still have NOAA radio station on the stereo? I had a 2010 Outback and LOVED❤ THAT feature‼️
Had mine for 7 weeks now. Hoping for snow in hoosierland soon! Geyser blue with moon roof and HK blasters. 5K miles at 30.4 mpg so far.
Sounds perfect!
Joe and Lori and Steve and keep up the good work and I love the video 👏
Am in South Africa & it's 00:50 am ...it's funny how I keep on seeing the views going up every minute 🙆🏾♂️😂😂
Thanks for being up with us from a distance
Definitely puts the Wild in wilderness. I’ll take it in blue.
Just made a Texas to Virginia drive in my forte gt and man did I miss my bigger vehicles lol. I’d miss my manual but this thing is interesting to me.
Nice fun in the rally road. Dealer must not know about this :D.
Hey Joe which suv would you recommend for bad weather I hear Subarus are good but what's the best in this segment?
Getting a Crosstrek Wilderness next week, but without the power seat or moon roof. Figured I don't change seat position too often so should be fine, plus I don't need an expensive stereo. Really enjoyed your review and laughed about keeping Poptarts so you don't have to eat people, lol. BTW I love that green too, but I am getting sapphire blue pearl color.
You are going to love it Ray!
@@RaitisRides in your opinion is a power seat important?
I live in Orlando fl and I would drive one of those in here that’s a beautiful Subaru 👌🏻
Even the crows are fans of Riati's Ride! 🦅
I think all these off road vehicles should come with heated and ventilated seats standard. Having cooked my booty at the beach more times than I care to remember, ventilated seats are much appreciated. That seat material looks like it soaks up every degree of heat within a block radius of the vehicle.
The crows part really took this video in a dark turn
Love your reviews. Love this car, too. I really want this car. I’ll probably get the ‘25 CW. Just paid off my ‘22 Limited. Still less than 15,000mi. I like having two cars. It’s either this or a 6sp manual, Civic Si.
16:09 that was a clean rhyme yo
Thanks man!
@@RaitisRidesraiti's rhymes 😂
Hows the foot well? I have an issue with my 2019 Crosstrek is where my right leg is cramped by the center console.
The Sport also have dual mode X mode.
Joe, Great stuff as usual. You da man. The Subaru looks great. But for my money, I'd get the Mazda CX-50 Meridian Edition... Oh wait, I did.
The Compass is available with around 200HP, but the Crosstrek will probably be more reliable. The 2.5L Crosstrek isn't far behind on power, and the Wilderness can tow 3500lb.
A rear TorqLocker is also available for Subarus, as well as high-clearance steel bumpers.
thanks
R. I. P. The Crows got him.
You didn’t mention if the view mirrors on the sides fold in if there’s cameras or departure there any of these features come along with it?
Great looking vehicle and very functional.
Plus the price is right!
I'm on my 6 Subaru in 12 years... I've never had any problems!! subaru LOVER ❤
That is so wonderful to hear!
6 in 12 years? Those stats might speak otherwise lol. I can only imagine you are doing leases….not much goes wrong on a vehicle in the first 2-3 years unless it’s a total lemon.
I was debating buying the Crosstrek wilderness. It does appear to be a good value for the money and you get a lot for what you pay. At the end of the day I went with the 2023 Compass Trailhawk instead because I did not want a CVT again. I have an old 2012 Compass (CVT) with 136k miles I’ve had for 11 years. It has had few problems and been a reliable vehicle. Hoping my new Trailhawk is just as reliable.
My daughter's 2017 Crosstrek is at 80,000 mi with no problems.
Subaru has the right formula here but it is missing a stronger motor. Only if they had offered a 2.4 turbo in the WRX, this could have been a winner.
I drove a 113 hp Volvo for more than 2 decades and survived.
@@danielfair4675 Buyers are now looking for more than just survival.
but probably 10k more.
My biggest zonk and this goes for the Forester Wilderness also, but there is no heated steering wheel in a vehicle that is marketed for overlanding/camping/off-roading. I know the outback has one, and I'm sure its by design since its a a little bit more money. But I think the Crosstrek/Forester Wilderness models should have a heated steering wheel. As someone who is in the market to buy a new vehicle, it would be a sure thing.
Wear gloves, folks survived more than 100 yrs without it.
We have winters every year and I haven't lost sleep even once in 58 years not having one.
For the first time ever, I have a heated steering wheel. I have to tell you it feels great (but by no means necessary).@@danielfair4675
Who likes to wear gloves while driving?! I'll say I thought the heated steering wheel was really just a gimmick, but the truck I bought a few years ago has it and I must admit it's very nice to have! While it's not a deal breaker if it's included, it's definitely a nice ammenty I like having.
@@danielfair4675you could say the same about pretty much anything. We survived without cars for thousands of years, but it's nicer to have them. No reason that in the 21st century even a base level car should come without a heated steering wheel or seat. Both my parents' Kias came with that 10 years ago.
Talk about a "princess and the pea" argument, here.
JOE! Why weren't you at the Cybertruck event?!
That’s a great question. I don’t have Elon’s number
We've owned 7 new Subaru's over the past 10 years, we recently traded in our 2022 Outback Wilderness for our brand new 2024 Forester Wilderness of course in Gyser Blue. Hated the Outback, couldn't wait to get rid of it, but absolutely love the Forester, no comparison, sorry Outback owners. We did the Outback Wilderness for a little over a year, won't be going back to an Outback again. Now, tomorrow, I'm going in and buying a brand new Crosstrek Wilderness in Alpine Green color, can't wait! Go Subaru!
The cvt hurt my heart ❣️
Love the way this looks. However, my 2021 Crosstrek Sport has many of the same features. A little less ground clearance, but two X Modes, 2.5 litre engine, Startek seats, etc. I'm just not a fan of the big info center. Also, I have very easy to use climate control with real knobs that I can adjust without even looking, and pull up old style emergency brake. If I were looking at them side by side, to buy, it would be a hard choice.
Keep your 2021 Sport. I traded mine for a 2024 Wilderness and I wish I wouldn't have.
I want to trade my 2021 sport for a wilderness. Why do you say we should keep the sports instead? Any reason?
Looks good
Wish the wrx came in this color
Hi Raiti’s Rides You Make Great Video Can You Make A Review On The New 2024 Audi RS 5 Coupé When Are You Driving The All New 2024 Hyundai Kona Electric And The New 2024 Lincoln Nautilus

@raitisrides Where was this off-road course? Is it public?
Keep it, CVT is a no go
Viva Subaru!
I’m glad that you are here Luis
@@RaitisRides Yeah
Have the 2024 Limited in Alpine Green. Gonna order the Wilderness Floor Mats for the extra 5 HP. (smile). By the way, does the Wilderness Cargo Mat add any additional HP? My second Cross Trek and lovin em. Added Bridgestone Blizzaks for the winters here. Superb video - gratefull for your production. All the best. "The JJ" SW Penna.
No unfortunatley 5 HP is all you get! LOL Thank you for your kind words.
Great looking vehicle. Seems to be very reliable as well as usual for Subaru. Im still more convinced I am getting the CX50 over this honestly. But this would be the runner up for sure.
Nothing wrong with that!
The rugged jelly bean
Jelly bean???
Im gonna zonk it for the cvt
really is a lot of car for lower to mid 30s. We are a huge subaru family. Wife has a 17 Outback, Mom, sister and Aunt have crosstreks & my dad has a brand new Outback. Subarus are some of the best value for money vehicles period. Might need one of these too lol
Master Chief Halo spec. I’ll allow it.
dey went a lil overboard wit da cladding ayy
I’d love a Impreza wilderness ❤
I’d get this over a Toyota RAV4 TuRD any day, Joe 👍
Good looking car
Want. Will get. 😊
This thing is killer. Think I’m sold on these.
They really do the business for sure!
The off-roading area is that way.😂 💪
I love it, but I still would like to see Subaru really up the game and make this as a Hybrid. Also, who not include memory seats and automatic parking like they have on the Japan model?
i love the old school references lol
why o why does subaru not put the 2.4 boxer FA24 in the crosstrek?!
The color is fire but the flat black naw not feelin it
What would you like to see?
@@RaitisRides it should had been body colored. Also, I would like to see a turbocharge in the crosstrek wilderness
Why do so many manufactures not put LED lights in their turn signals?
