Great video! It seems like you've got it down, you'll be a great doctor! 😀

I'm not one of the smartest, but if i study really hard i get it, that is the only reason that i will be scared to even try and make a move like trying to be a doctor, i really respect doctors and always think of them as really intelligent and caring people. Im curious to know how long it took you from the start to finish and did you have days that you thought you wouldn't make it? Thanks in advance for reading Doctor.

Hi Ka Ri Na. Thanks for your message. Yes, I was a little nervous to go to school because of how intimidating it seems. There are definitely some tough times. However, a lot of my success came from preparation and organization when it came to tests/labs/etc. If it takes you a little longer than most to learn/understand material that's completely normal. I definitely wasn't the quickest of my class but I worked my butt off because I wanted it bad enough. If you really want to give corrected vision and take care of peoples' eyes then it's the right move. Talk to your school counselor and other optometrists in your area to get more information in person from them if you're still not sure. You may regret not going after this profession if you really like it but are too scared to try.

Great video! I'm going into optometry as well and your videos are really helpful. I'm only a junior in high school, and I do know that this is something I want to get into (I'm currently shadowing an optometrist). You seem really determined and I hope you do earn everything you've been working for in the end.!!

I'm a senior in High School and i'm looking to pursue optometry. How would I begin shadowing optometrists?

Great question. It can be as simple as calling a doctor's office and seeing if they allow shadowing. I would say many doctors really like to show interested students the ropes. I started shadowing once I was in undergrad through my Pre-Optometry club since they organized those for us.

Hi! I’m thinking of going into optometry next year
Do I have to love optic physics? Or can i get through my studies without liking it?

Just get through it! There's definitely no need for you to like it! Optics was not my favorite class either haha

Hello, I'm thinking of pursuing a career in Optometry, but I am a little hesitant that the job will be boring and repetitive after a certain amount of years in the field. I am just curious to know what sparked your interest in this profession? Also, how hard was it to gain acceptance into an Optometry school? Your videos are really inspiring and I hope to get a response!

Hi Accomplish A. I'm sorry I didn't get to reply until now. I love optometry because it's hardly ever routine work. You often see a vast amount of the ways disease presents, and most of the time it's a fun challenge. Take a look at my other videos of the grades it takes and how to do well on the OAT. Good luck to you!

Love to hear from someone that is passionate about the subject.
Do you know whether admissions prefers shadowing time, volunteer time, or paid time. I will be applying to Optometry school in a few months and hope to have interesting things on my application since some of my class in undergrad did go as planned. Any advice?

Admissions looks at GPA and OAT scores first. As far as the shadowing and volunteering goes, I would say admissions wants you to hear if you are passionate about the profession. I found that if you can incorporate a story or two from your shadowing/volunteering experiences and relate it to how you like the profession, then you should have a good interview. However, some school require that you have a certain amount of shadowing hours, such as Pacific, which I believe was at least 30. Some schools do not require any though.

I have 8 hours so far in addition to working as a technician at a retail store.
Thanks so much so the response.
Will you be selling any of your OAT study materials? Or recommendations for materials besides kaplan.

check out my "How to Crush the OAT video" I talk about some of the strategies I used. Unfortunately, I don't have any study materials since Kaplan was an online subscription and is expired now. There are other sites out there where you can buy practice books and tests.
