From my experience of learning English as a foreign learner, I highly recommend exposing yourself to the language through movies and any other audio-visual content, this helped me get used to the pattern of that language and gave me a huge advantage among other learners who were learning English in a straight forward and boring method.
In the effort to improve my listening skill for PTE test, I incidentally found this lecture. It was amazing and fascinating. It was worth 48 minutes of watching every single word he said. This video is first of its kind to give practice on listening skills which I were very average at. Visual thinking came to rescue for faster decoding of the words. AWESOME VIDEO SIR. Very Humours as well. Another useful tip was 'PRETEND TO BE FASCINATED' which I can relate to my college days. I LOVE THIS CHANNEL. Though I am a professional but still find the channel so useful. Some tip(s): In my university days in one of my law subjects and business on the topic of "Obligations and Contracts". I still have on my mind the effective ways of memorization in order to "A's" the exams. Cheating was unknown in my school days because of the intellectual challenges. I find them very effective. I've been retired and am talking about more than half the century ago of studies and experiences, and yet, I still have the tips of remembering things that our professor in that particular subject taught us in achieving "A's" in any exam, Here, again, it's the manner the teacher and/or the presenter making the presentation so effective, motivational, interacting, and learning enjoyable and not boring. Keep up, teacher and thank you for posting this on youtube,
Thank you so much,Sir. I am your new student here.Your speaking is very clearly for me. I mean your voice is clearly to understand for students who are learning English.
I had been searching videos to improve my listening skills due to english is not my native language. I found this and now a im feel as the most fortunate person in the world. Thank you a lot.
You are such a good teacher! I was about going to sleep - it was 11:45 pm. I found this lecture. It's 12:10 am now. I'm still watching. Maybe I can take a mental vacation tomorrow.
❌ *3 Problems* 1. Pseudo (Fake)-Listening 2. Selective Listening (Distractions) 3. Critical Listening ✅ *6 Solutions* 1. Awareness! (of your problems) 2. Hi Scott, I watched your video with my 13 year old. We did your test together and he surprised me by getting 90 percent correct. I did better than I thought. We will be implementing this to our weekly programme. I found I was particularly focused watching your video. All the best.
Thank you for posting! I watched the entire video for the whole 49 minutes and I was interested the whole time. Trust me I am not the kind of person to do that. Very useful good job.
I work interpreter and translator in Thailand, all your tutorials are brillianttly bright brian, I always keep following your class. please record and upload more..!! So so quality!! Mr. Ton from Thailand. :)
This really impressed me "hearing and listening" 2 different things. I totally agree with this quote. I think when you attempt to listen to someone carefully, visualizing plays a significant positive effect.
Outstanding instructor, kept me listening and learning, enjoyed learning to listen, i had forgotten how to effectively listen. Mentally stimulating for my sleepy brain.
I can't express how thankful I am to be able to learn a useful lecture like this for totally free. I have this huge problem of losing focus during lectures and this video has helped me a lot.
Wow, I watched it for 48mins! The way he delivered the class was engaging. He is a good teacher who knows how to design and conduct the class. On the audience side, I think my problem is selective listening which I noticed some times when not the rest. Good solutions proposed.
Hi, this is the best lecture I’ve ever heard and seen in my life in this field - yes, I really appreciate your kind effort Sir. Very glad to have such great full experience in which you shared with us.
He is great teacher.special when he said.most of his college expend time talking their polical opinion at their classes. We need more teacher like him.do we need teacher political opinion in classes? No. If a teacher is talking his political opinion he is doctrine. No teaching.so go Rusha.
Wow! This is my first time in your class Mr. Professor. I do have never ever until now a class like that. So, for a moment I consider you the best English teacher ever. Congrats!
Hi! I’m an interpreter and the oral test has long sections, I was encourage to do note taking which I don’t know how, but this was an excellent way to teach someone to have a long term memory. I found the clue to become and expert on this field, listening and practicing. Thank you so very much to take the time to make this video you don’t know how much you encourage me to continue.❤
Very interesting and really amazing! I can associate myself with some of the critical issues described. In my experiences in "listening", I find that I'm totally (really totally) focused on "listening" based on the topic or issues covered, otherwise, boring. I am always focused on the point that I almost always unable to blink my eyes on the presenter, his/her body language in presenting, gestures, use of hands, the ability to articulate and the use of words would really catch the attention of the participants. This would bring out a resounding interaction between the presenter and the participants. I had experienced these during my school days, especially in my postgraduate, my experiences as a "listener" and as a "presenter". Personally, the topic or the issue(s) presented is critical in capturing the full attention of everyone. In this presentation, I admire both the "issue" as well as the manner the presenter opened up his presentation. Very interesting and motivating.
I loved this video, what a great teacher. Honestly, we should have these study skills lessons taught to ALL students at the start of the school year. Think about how much this can improve the grades for all the students
who is this teacher ,i am in love with beautification and clarity of his expression..Really this is the defination of the great teacher our world deserve!Lots of love from India sir!!
This is some very good and useful information, thank you. Not often you hear practical information being given like this. I have been a teacher for many years. One thing I had to learn early on was not to get offended if it seemed like someone was not listening. This speaker mentions a few times about not listening as showing disrespect. If you are putting information out there, some people will listen and some won't. Don't take it personally if they don't, it just causes you stress, and no one is really obligated to listen. If you make a bug deal about it, it just tends to turn people off. My opinion.
He explains everything not only by his words but also by his manners that makes him a best teacher . Hope , His topic is clearly understood by everyone only for his way of explains .
I can't believe this video is almost 9 years old. The professor nailed it|! and I wonder if he has a personal channel here on UA-cam...I'd love to watch more classes of him. ^^
A great teacher! It was so interesting and fun, I felt I wouldn't need any of the skills learned to listen to this lecture! It was informative, useful, truly fascinating and most eloquently presented! I greatly enjoyed it and benefited from it! Thanks so much, Rivka Kahana, Israel.

Keep up, teacher and thank you for posting this on youtube,
Can you share some tips?
@@farhanharun4621 lmao ikr, i was reading expectantly and was left disappointed by the lack of tips
❌ *3 Problems*

2. Selective Listening (Distractions)
3. Critical Listening
✅ *6 Solutions*
1. Awareness! (of your problems)
2. Be physically and mentally prepared to listen
3. Set a goal! (aim for 100%)
4. Sit in the front and center
5. Practice!

Hey !! Please contact me
Hi Scott, I watched your video with my 13 year old. We did your test together and he surprised me by getting 90 percent correct. I did better than I thought. We will be implementing this to our weekly programme. I found I was particularly focused watching your video. All the best.
Nice

The teacher is so amazing! The class is so interesting, I can’t help giggling (pseudo listening, mental vacation…) and I really enjoy the whole video.
I want him to be my teacher. He is the nicest teacher ever saw on youtube.
Pd: Does someone else here for TOEFL listening practice?
Wish I'd been able to watch this before I started high school, and *definitely* before I started university. Very helpful!
I heard many other native english speakers but you are the best teacher.
I come across this clip and find it very useful. I’m really appreciate it. Thank you professor. “ Listening is not equal to hearing.
Outstanding presentation. What an incredible teacher. I wish I could have watched this 20 years ago...
No teaching.so go Rusha.
do u know his name???
I listened whole heartedly for the first tme in my life.
I can't believe this video is almost 9 years old. The professor nailed it|! and I wonder if he has a personal channel here on UA-cam...I'd love to watch more classes of him. ^^

You are amazing... really amazing. If every teacher is like you than we are going to have every student as genius.
