I'm new to Heresy, and my first army is Blood Angels. Currently I'm building x2 15 man Assault Squads with x3 Power Axes and the SGT I'm not sure if I should go double lightning claws, or power fist. What would anyone recommend? Also, would jumping to 20 man squads be better/worse?
Taking them as the troop choice in a SW allied detachment HQ is a preator with the bloodied claw ROW you get massive range for charges and tagging folks
I am planning on building an Iron Hands Assault Squad of 10 marines with a pair of Power Mauls and an undecided weapon for the Sarge. Something a bit unexpected for my opponent when he goes to overwatch them and realizing he may not kill as many as he thougth due to the Medusas Scales.
Lovely stuff chaps. Another bonus for Blood Angels is when you have Sangy in the list he gives all jump units +1ws on the charge as well. So combined with their legion trait it gets a bit spicy
I run 2 x 10 man squads in my Dark Angels one squad with axe's and one with power mauls, if I could get my hands on enough heavy chain swords, I would love to run a 20 man squad all with heavy chain swords.
Good vid. My Assaults were built in first ed, so my Sarge has a THammer which isn't even an option anymore. Now i just use it as a powerfist on a stick. Few counterpoints - a gun can be worth it but only if you've baited out your opponents shooting reactions first. Meltabombs can be a decent investment if you end up playing Dreads - sure you won't do much but at least you'll maybe do a wound or 2 before you get wiped. Word Bearer assault marines can be fun in the deepstrike. You can Corrupt them to give em Fear, making the pin easier. You can also give them a Warpfire pistol for a pinning shot as well, long as you've baited those shooting reactions. And finally remember only one unit can intercept a unit, no matter how many Augury scanners the enemy has. You can't have two units intercepting one new arrival
I run 3, 15 man squads in a blood angels deep strike list. I have found that 2 spears and 2 axes with an apothocary keeps them around and viable till late game. Spears knock out tacticals before they have a chance to fight makes the fight tilt in my favor and the axes will carve out any ap 2 challengers or terminators. Spears and axes also are buffed by the destroyer debuffs hiting the instant dead threshhold. This has helped me cut down justerins in long drawn out fights. Also kept me fighting veterans.
I like to run them almost stock; I add a power fist to the SGT to threaten light vehicles. I don't really take them for killing things in close combat so much as I do as a 160pt unit that can mess with an opponents plan by running them into things my opponent does not want me to, or using them to vastly slow down enemy movement. You can really take up a huge amount of the board spreading 10 out at max coherency, forcing an enemy to make a bunch of sub-optimal moves or charges to get rid of them instead of moving their deathball or good melee units into something they actually want to kill. With 2 you can have 320 points (or 290 without the power firsts) to wrap up a primarch and his cool termies for 2 turns when they would probably much rather be killing much more important stuff. They are kinda crappy at actually killing stuff in melee, and while you can spend a BUNCH of points to make them less crappy at killing stuff, but you can get different units which kill stuff much better and are tougher for killing stuff in melee, and while on the face of it they seem like they should be used as a great melee unit, I think they get too expensive very quickly, and that using them as a melee unit to try and fight and kill enemy units is a mistake. I guess I really like them for making important parts of my opponents plan not happen, rather than using them to try and actually kill stuff. They are a suicide unit I use to mess things up, I suppose, for me.
Looking forward to running a squad or two with my Raven Guard. Wish our special rules were better for jump pack units though. Everyone already has shred so I don't know what the designers were thinking giving us rerolls on the charge...
Re-watching as I'm pulling the trigger and building 20 mk2 assault marines for my Iron Hands. I really enjoyed these videos... would love if you picked it up again at soke point. Had you considered looking to Legions Imperialis units for content? I'd be all over those videos.
Any chance you guys are planning to take a look at Veterans? With the different options each legion has for them and the fact they can get line in PotL, I think they're one of the most interesting entries to look at in detail.
Nice video Made me look at these as a viable option You would not shoot there Pistols as reaction would likely kill you Keep it clean with assault only and keep points low Hydra Dominatus
I'm running my Blood Angels assault squads with power lances/spears/polearms/whatever. I'm not sure why people are sleeping on them. I see people saying, "well how will they deal with terminators?" Assault squads are made up of basic marines, terminators are a little more of an elite unit, why would i expect them to come out on top? On the other hand, a tactical squad, heavy support squad, or even another assault squad that they get the drop on, will probably lose a model or two per lance before they even get to strike. I see this configuration as being a bully unit that works over support squads while Dawnbreakers, terminators, or Angel's Tears work over the enemy main line units
Not a bad shout, I think paired with your BA legion trait they are pretty good too since they wounding on 3's most of the time too. I might have to try this out on my Nightlords. (Jason)
@lostlegionspodcast3526 picking on weaker squads is exactly what the Night Lords are best at! Only just started a VIII Legion force, enjoying your guys stuff. Thanks a lot!
How are you guys running your Assault Squads?
15 men 3 power axes and. Charnable on the sarge

@@GamerAddictFrank personally I’d say lightning claws!
Dark Angels. 20 man squad. 3 swords, combat shield. Deathwing Hexagrammaton. Accompanied by Librarian with Biomancy. It works.
Taking them as the troop choice in a SW allied detachment HQ is a preator with the bloodied claw ROW you get massive range for charges and tagging folks
I think they missed a big legion for Assault Squads: World Eaters. +1 Attacks to any successful charge.
Fair point!
Don't forget chainaxes and you can stick Falax Blades on the Sarge & Apoth as well.
@@grant5580the toothpicks of pure death. Doesn't work when you roll 4 1s of course.

Same. 15-20 IHs, but undecided on all weapons atm.

Oh snap! I didn’t realise the intercept but Cerri that’s game changing for me!
"Any enemy units" definitely doesn't mean only one. ...
Really enjoying these, keep it up!

Yeah it’s an odd one right
Oh boy now if only they had plastic jump marines!

We are working our way though troops first but will put that on the list for next in line !
Don’t think Jump Packs can run so that means Space Wolf ones are WS5 on the charge instead.
Unless they are heavy they can run, same with cav
Vet. Sgt.:
Do the classic one. Plasma pistol & Power fist.
