- Looking for a big-hitting race machine? What about a nice bike for the park? If so, YT's new Capra might be the right for you, so let's get into our review on the YT Capra MK3.
I've spent the last month testing this machine throughout the UK, and it is safe to say that I am impressed. The YT Capra MK3 has a great suspension setup that was inspiring me to go full send on it! The rear end isn't the best at cushioning the terrain under you. It provides a lot of feedback and is quite sensitive. Overall, I'm pretty blown away after testing and reviewing the YT Capra MK3. After riding this bike throughout the UK, it is hard for me to not recommend it to a friend.
This bike comes with a 170mm travel, 38mm stanchion fork that leads the way on top of the 29” front wheels, and is paired with 170mm rear travel on the MX version or 165mm on the 29er. The Capra MK3 is available in 5 frame sizes between small and XXL. Both wheel size options fit riders from 5’1”-6’8” (150cm-200cm). The seat tube lengths are low across the board and insertion depths are relatively long, allowing riders to size up or down according to their preferences. At 6’2” (189cm). The 29” and MX versions have their own specific geometries but are typically within 0.5 degrees or 5mm for each measurement. YT continues to use their signature Virtual Four Link (V4L), Horst Link suspension design but has added a clevis to drive the rear end of the shock and free up some space in the front triangle for the water bottle.
The YT Capra MK3 Starts at £3,999 /$4,499 /€4,499

Man I really appreciate you talking about your actual height and the bike sizes for the YT I’m right around 6’2
Good to hear proper criticism in a review.
First, I was waiting for another YT review from someone. Thanks!
You're welcome, hope you enjoyed it!
Great video, well spoken 👍
An amazing looking bike.
I had a 2019 capra ali version with top spec fox suspension for 3000 euro's, it was the best bike I have ever owned and rode, I only sold it to fund my 21 rail, both fantastic bikes.
I'd love to see a comparison between the Capra and Slash.
Did you observe tire marks inside the back triangle? On my Capra 29 the tire certainly hit the frame, which you can easily spot by the black rubber on the turquoise frame... I imagine it's harder to see on the black frame, but did you observe anything similar?
Got my decoy this winter, I see a lot of similarities with the Capra. That might be my next analog bike.
Hi there - do you know if the aluminum versions are also with Pressfit BB?
Core 4 vs Transition Sentinel?
Is the geometry different for 2021 version?
Just got my mx core 4 and it absolutely rips
Mine's in the post... can't wait to give it a try.
@@Allsystemsaredown yeah you are going to love it
@@butters9274 Tick....tick....tick...Come on DHL or whoever. Let's get that van rolling....
Just ordered a Capra Uncaged 9, GX Eagle and Öhlins suspension at $4k was unbeatable.
Heck yeah.
You will love it, trust me. Open the brakes and let the goat do the work
you have ohlins coil in the rear, how is it?
Any chances to get new Torque reviewed?
Capra, Spindrift and Torque in high consideration for new "super enduro".
We do have the new Torque on hand, just haven't had a chance to put many miles on it so far.
What is the weight limit for that frame ?
How does it climb?
It must be an optical illusion because this looks like the MX version?
I would like to hear your opinion on the full 29er vs mx version. Thanks
We've got an MX Capra landing with Robert in a month or so, and will be producing a separate review and video where we compare the two.
@@TheLoamWolf Hey, did you get the chance to compare the Capra 29 and the MX? Would be very interested to see that video and hear your thoughts.
What happend to your longterm review of the trek slash 2021?
We didn't end up making a long-term review video on the Slash, only a written piece unfortunately. If you want to read that, you can find it here: theloamwolf.com/2020/12/22/long-term-review-trek-slash-9-9-xo1/
We'll just have to get another Slash to make a proper long-term review video.
@@TheLoamWolf Thanks for the fast reply and link. Keep the good work coming.
How does it compare to the Strive CFR?
What height are you?
They seem to have moved up the cost scale considerably since 2018-19.
They still offer great value. I would even say the greatest value on the market.
Along with everything else…
@@DEPIndFPV naah there are companies with better value if you dont go for the uncaged 9 (which I got). Radon, Propain, Fezzari and Bird Bikes offer 10x better value
@@NotADuncon maybe in the US, but I am European
@@DEPIndFPV I'm European too. 2 of those companies are German, 1 is UK, 1 is US
Can anyone comment on the durability of YT CAPRA carbon frames ?
Itll crack and they wont warranty it
Renthal Apex stem * not integra which is the dh stem
Yep you're right, our bad! Hope you enjoyed the video.
How is the pedal kick back on this since they reduced progression to 33%? I had the 2018 version and it was the worst thing ever and the pedal bob wasn't great either. I still think these bikes should only be ridden with coil as like I said they are so progressive that air makes no sense. If you still have this bike put a coil on it and thank me later
Definitely not an issue in this bike! You’ll be happy with the improvements there for suee
the issue with kick is the Anti squat, the previous bike was weird as it would naturally wallow in the mid stroke but kinda be held up by anti squat and because of that it would produce some good amount of pedal kick.
When i had my capra, I did some chainless runs for a local "chainless race" the suspension was super weird as youd push into it and it would just sink but it would rocket through the rough stuff.
@@MrSupermugen I have the 2022 Uncaged (the ohlins alu one) and it pedals really well. Maybe not as well as some bikes (148mm travel giant did better) but it's not annoying and you don't think about it
Its still the same. Its too harsh and progressive
@@southpawlibranine3511 it was like butter with a coil. You just don't ride hard enough
Pressfit BB on a 5K bike ...
Although threaded BB's would be our choice, a pressfit BB with good tolerances should work just fine. Not a hint of a creak out of this Capra or the Jeffsy we tested previously.
Yeti uses a pressfit m, you can always use a wheels MFG threaded pressfit BB to eliminate the chance of creaking
The frames on the Core 4 and Core 3 are identical, not sure why you said the Core 3 is different/heavier frame?
Hey Steve, the Core 4 and Core 3 do not use the same frame - the Core 3 is built with a lower quality "high modulus" carbon fiber fabric that adds weight to the frame compared with the "ultra modulus" carbon fiber on the Core 4 and above.
From the YT website: "Depending on the model, the main triangle is made either from lighter UM carbon, more affordable HM carbon, or proven aluminum." Hope this helps.
Is it a mullet
If they came with TRP or Shimano brakes that would be better.
TRP, maybe, Shimano, no.
If you cried in your pillow you would feel better.
@@andrerichard628 Let's go!
@@ratcamaro ahh sorry I was kidding.
Does anyone else think YT is slowly but surely losing their identity as a brand?
